Help request

[edit]

Dear @A1Cafel, I was hoping that maybe you could help uploading the files of this year's WEF as you did last year in another edition of the WEF? There are still very few files of this years edition.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 22:47, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Paradise Chronicle: Unfortunately I was limit to 10 uploads per day, so I'm not able to upload it. --A1Cafel (talk) 15:16, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh, too bad. Will try to turn to someone else then. Happy editing anyway. Its always pleasant to see your name popping up on my watchlist.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 23:50, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations

[edit]

you got your will, i will stop contributing pictures. I guess i am not the first user mobbed out by your fanatical crusade against freedom of panorama. A project dominated by self proclaimed Blockwarts of your sort is completely rotten anyhow. --Arabsalam (talk) Arabsalam (talk) 11:36, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Arabsalam: I know you didn't address me, but speaking as an admin: if you uploaded images that violate the copyright laws of the country in which they were taken, your appropriate grievance is with those laws, not with someone who noticed you were breaking them and prevented Commons from hosting images that would have legal problems. - Jmabel ! talk 18:18, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, A1Calafel and his buddy Ikan Kekek can triumph, after almost 14 years and over 3500 uploads I will no longer contribute anything here. I do have a few thousand photos from Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia of places that are not yet represented on Commons, but that is obviously no longer wanted. So I will now try to have as many of my photos uploaded here deleted as possible, ideally all of them. I no longer want to have anything to do with a project whose users get satisfaction from destroying other people's works and proudly display this on their user page. Arabsalam (talk) 19:00, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker2). Sorry, just had another discussion with ACafel above and happened to read this interesting discussion. I hope you will get to terms with the well meant work of ACafel. And on the your files... if they violate copyright, you are free to nominate them for deletion and admins would really appreciate it. But if you have uploaded the files under a correct licence, it will be rather difficult to delete them, I once tried to help an artist to delete her own files, and her request was denied. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 23:47, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You're kidding, this guy sees photographers as enemies whose work must be destroyed and floods Commons with junk he scavenges from the internet. This work could also be done by an artificial intelligence. He and his ilk are the gravediggers of this project. --Arabsalam (talk) Arabsalam (talk) 11:33, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How do you know this is in the PD? The photographer could have lived until less than 70 years ago? Viriditas (talk) 02:02, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I nominated it for deletion due to potential URAA issue. --A1Cafel (talk) 09:19, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi.Have you translated the file name before nominating to deletion? It is obviously not art, but ice fractures on a glass, the same as a en:window frost Юрий Д.К 05:19, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have translated via google, it turns out "Pattern on car glass", I though it was some kinds of art on a car. --A1Cafel (talk) 05:23, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We now know this is not art, and therefore the deletion request is not about FOP. Why did you update the category instead of removing it? Brianjd (talk) 08:20, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Another one I'm not sure about, thoughts? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Before complaining about other users’ uploads, fix your own

[edit]

Based on discussions like Commons:Deletion requests/File:BigClitoris.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with 196932560@N07, you expect other users to create good titles and descriptions and don’t bother looking at anything else.

Before complaining about those, you should make sure your own uploads have good titles and descriptions. I am referring to uploads like -i---i- (32552103431).jpg (no title and no description) and Aurora at Lions Bay (54067069722).jpg (OK title, but missing obvious categories, and no meaningful description until I added a basic description). Brianjd (talk) 08:17, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I never used titles and descriptions as the main deletion requests. For the description, it was directly transferred via F2C, it cannot be changed. --A1Cafel (talk) 08:37, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What about a more recent upload, like McNaught comet (366928149).jpg? You simply copied the Flickr description of Not very good quality. Does that file belong here? Brianjd (talk) 08:24, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Considering this is a 2007 photo, I think it should be fine to be here. --A1Cafel (talk) 08:38, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t understand your point. You keep saying that low quality images of genitals need to be deleted. Are low quality images of comets different?
Or are you saying that this image is actually high quality? If so, change the description! Brianjd (talk) 08:40, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think we are having a higher standard on the quality of genitals on Commons, to avoid Commons being flooded per COM:PORN. --A1Cafel (talk) 08:43, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) (1) we absolutely do have a higher bar for images of genitalia than for almost anything else. Besides COM:PORN see also COM:NOPENIS.
(2) Nothing in F2C prevents adding specific captions to photos. I do it all the time. If you are working in batches too large to make that practical, you should certainly consider that the next step is to go through what you just uploaded and deal with descriptions and categories. - Jmabel ! talk 21:31, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You only look at titles and descriptions before nominating files for deletion, by your own admission. That means you expect them to be good. If you didn’t expect them to be good, you would look at other things.
If you expect other users’ titles and descriptions to be good, you should make sure your own are good too. You can update the file description manually after using Flickr2Commons, just like I update the file description manually after using Flickr2Commons or the Upload Wizard.
