Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, WikiPhoenix!

Hi WikiPhoenix.
I contact you because you translated Template:Created with CombineZP into another language. I've done some changes on Template:Created with CombineZP/en to improve the templates Quality. Would you kindly translate that addition as well.
Thanks a lot --D-Kuru (talk) 14:13, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon/sv[edit]

Hallo WikiPhoenix, you contributed to MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon/sv. I just wanted to tell you that the English version contains more correct links (some are outdated in the sv version). Either you update the sv version or just delete the page - then all sv users see the english version. I guess the links are not that hard to understand anyway. Or we integrate the link title translation in the new link template. As you like. Probably the latter would be the best. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:24, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Saibo! I've sent a request for editing that page. Thanks for notifying me! // WikiPhoenix (Talk) 17:24, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, thanks! I have deleted /sv sinec it automatically falls back to the English version which is indentical now. I have checked, it should still be working in Swedish. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:23, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
I just noticed your work on this template... thanks (I don't really know that much about templates or wikicode). Just one thing - I don't think the {{LangSwitch|}}-construction works with this template as the place, month and challenge theme can't be translated, making the result a mix of languages... do you know if there's another possibility to translate templates? I tried to have a look at the quality and featured picture templates but that was to confusing for me...
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 09:29, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was going to use {{Autotranslate}}, but I didn't have the time for it at the moment, so I used LangSwitch instead. If you take a look at the Swedish translation, you can see that I made a temporary workaround so the month name in English gets translated into Swedish, and with the use of the switch feature I managed to translate the place (first, second, third) too. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 12:08, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed the German translation, and everything should be translated. Please review it for any translation errors. I will try to add Autotranslate to the template in the future. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 12:13, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! And you got the translation right. ;-> Anna reg (talk) 12:27, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to say that adding autotranslate didn't work out as I expected. I hope you are satisfied with using LangSwitch until someone else manages to add it. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 23:55, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
I saw that you did the translations for the Commons:Photo challenge page to Swedish and wanted to ask if you are still interested in translating texts for this project. If you are, there are several things that could be translated: a) the page itself was just actualised, b) we started to translate the challenge descriptions themselves (so far only with langswitch), and c) I just posted translations to French and English for the watchlist notice (MediaWiki talk:WatchlistNotice - the last entry), where other languages could be added.

Your're welcome - and thanks back to you for doing the translations! --Anna reg (talk) 19:36, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
once more some questions concerning the photo challenge, some templates and translations...
I tried to fabricate a template for the part of the rules which doesn't change - and ended up creating two (one for restricted and one for non-restricted challenges). The templates seem to work in the different languages and should make translating the new information for the two August challenges (Hair and Holidays) much easier.
I'd like to ask you if you could

  • have a look at the templates (I'd be happy about suggestions to make all that information a bit clearer)
  • translate the challenge description for the two August challenges

Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 00:29, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done I managed to remove the script errors after a few tries. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 16:58, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge - September[edit]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
the new challenges are once again ready for translation - here are the links: Light on the move & Big and small. Sorry that I'm notifying you only now - holidays are mixing everything up... ;->

One more thing - I just prepared the watchlist messages for September - it would be gread if you could fill in the Swedish challenge titles. --Anna reg (talk) 00:16, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
do you have any idea why the automatic translation sometimes decides to use the following month (e.g. december instead of november)?
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 09:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! That's strange. Where does that occur?
By the way, I've found a way to decrease some code, that shouldn't change the layout, by using the {{Months/i18n}} template. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 19:00, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We made list here - apparently it's because the template fills in the current day and year if that information isn't already provided - and we looked at october 31, so all months without a 31 translated to the next month. We were quite confused... ;-> Anna reg (talk) 20:42, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I just reverted my edits so I don't screw up Helen's fix. I fixed the error that appeared on the template page instead. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 22:06, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The template you proposed would probably also be okay, as it doesn't seem to include days (and therefore 31sts shouldn't pose a problem) - anyway, thanks for your help and sorry that I didn't keep you up to date - e.g. wrote to you when we found the reason for that strange error...
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 22:24, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge - December[edit]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
and once again at the end of the month... - the themes were chosen yesterday, but I'd have liked a check of the English description before asking for translation. As nothing changed since yesterday evening, I wanted to warn you that the challenges are (nearly) ready - perhaps you can help to check the English descriptions? I'm not sure if they are clear enough...
well, here are the links

Best wishes and thanks for your help! Anna reg (talk) 13:47, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for not replying yesterday. Both descriptions are good; I can understand the themes for the challenges without any problem. However, I'm unsure if the citation signs in the description for Bad weather are intended or if the phrases are supposed to be in italics. You might want to check that out. Anyway, great job! :D // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 16:29, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Bad weather-description was written by El Grafo - and my only fear with it is that it's too long - people are so bad in reading rules... ;-> thanks for your check and your translations! --Anna reg (talk) 16:38, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you're welcome. By the way, I was thinking about moving the two LangSwitches above the gallery into a template so the translators only have to edit the template in order to add/edit translations for all Photo Challenge pages in the future. Is it okay with you? // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 17:05, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it is - I'm just not sure what you're envisioning at the moment (I'm not even sure which parts you'd like to put into a template). I don't think we have to do something about the category sentence, as I think we won't have to use that for the next challenge - we haven't used categories for a few months now. One idea I had was to create a header (similar to the one for the voting pages) where we could use the translation tool. But to use that it would probably be necessary that a translation administrator is involved in the creation of challenge pages, as they have to give a page free for translation... and it wouldn't necessarily help with the parts we don't have to translate anew each time... so if you have an idea how to improve something, go for it! --Anna reg (talk) 23:16, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about the restriction and category notes. After reading your reply I only added the restriction note to this template, but I couldn't fix the month parameter for the Persian translation. The reason I didn't simply add it to {{Photo challenge rules restricted}} was that I didn't know if it was appropriate to add the restriction note to all challenge pages, including the old ones. // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 00:43, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There was a reason why I didn't add it to {{Photo challenge rules restricted}} - just trying to remember... I wanted to create templates with the parts that remain unchanged for all challenges and I had no idea how to do that with a parameter that can differ quite a lot but should be translated (as the restriction can range from the year to one or several months as was the case for leaves) - the template as it is now looks good, but it works only for the Bad weather (the restrictions used so far are listed in Commons:Photo challenge/themes) - it would need quite a few to do so... at least we do know how that works now ;->). But if that does work, we could perhaps add it to {{Photo challenge rules restricted}}. Do you think it would be possible to connect the (but may have been taken earlier) to the restriction as well (with another {{#ifexist}}? Because that would mean that we could try to get back to only one... but with a lot of strange codes, so not something translators would thank me for... --Anna reg (talk) 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I got lost in studies and forgot to check if you left a reply. I don't understand what you mean by "connect the (but may have been taken earlier) to the restriction as well (with another {{#ifexist}})". // WikiPhoenix [Talk] 00:34, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
I have a one word change I forgot to do in Template:Photo challenge rules, as we decided to try to enter new images at the top of the gallery this month. That rule is explained in the third sentence of the checklist (*Submissions must be added to the bottom top of the Entries section below.)- could you please adjust the Swedish? Thanks a lot for your help, --Anna reg (talk) 08:58, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge translation[edit]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
the January themes seem to be decided... we only have one new theme - Outlier, as Bad weather & Household items in use will be continued during January (which once again seems to have caused something strange with the time translations in template {{Photo challenge rules}} - I'll try to find some time to check that, but if you have an idea, I'd appreciate your help!).
The watchlist message for January will be prepared in Helen's sandbox - as always - and normally shouldn't need a check (I removed the voting sentence, as we won't have a theme ready for voting in January).
Best wishes and a happy new year, --Anna reg (talk) 19:49, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge - February translations[edit]

Hello WikiPhoenix,
I just prepared the two February theme pages

and - as February has already begun and the pages are therefore already linked from the Photo challenge-main page, I put <!-- --> around every untranslated language - so if you find the time to do the translation, please don't forget to remove it!
The watchlist messages are once again in preparation in Helen's sandbox, but so far I have mainly actualized the links...

Hello WikiPhoenix,
the challenge pages for May are ready for translation:

FRacco created some translation templates for the photo challenge and formulated a Translation Plan - perhaps you could have a look (e.g. the new watchlist message is using one - the translated theme names have to be added to Template:Photo challenge theme/i18n/Mother Nature Strikes Back and Template:Photo challenge theme/i18n/Panoramas).

The new templates are therefore {{Photo challenge theme/i18n/Collections, Collecting and Collectables}} and {{Photo challenge theme/i18n/Eyes}}. Oh, and the challenges are both restricted to June and 4 pictures per user - the sentence is added after the {{Photo challenge rules}}-template.
