--Michael Kalbrunner (talk) 16:55, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Regarding "Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Veeramamunivar ad.jpg"

Hi, thanks for your input. The picture uploaded is a photograph taken by me of a govt ad published in a newspaper. The picture of Veeramamunivar in the ad is a picture commonly used by everyone. It has no copyright; creator and date of origin are unknown. Thank you --RJIAO (talk) 08:35, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

@Ophelia S: Everything has copyright. You need a extra license adding, to show what is the copyright of the newspaper. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:56, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: This is a Public Service Announcement of the Tamil Nadu state government inviting the general public to take part in a function. The announcement was meant for public consumption and sharing, and does not violate any Indian copyright laws. Reproduction of a government public invitation falls under "acts shall not constitute an infringement of copyright" under Section 52(1)(u) of Indian Copyright Act. --RJIAO (talk) 05:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, you deleted this file because it was previously deleted under a different name. I am the copyright holder of this file and it is my own work - the first upload was made by a colleague of mine with my permission but it was deleted (I guess because the permission was not explicit). Declaring my eclipse maps as my own work

Ronhjones, I've received an email accusing me of uploading multiple files which are copyright violations. I am asserting that I am the sole creator of these map images and have solely used copyright-free data in the course of making these maps. I am a professional cartographer and operate two websites, eclipse-maps.com, and greatamericaneclipse.com on which many of my original maps appear. If you have reason to doubt this, you can email me at "removed" or call me at "removed". - Michael Zeiler — Preceding unsigned comment added by MichaelZeiler (talk • contribs) 18:17, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

@Michael Zeiler: We cannot verify such ownership here. The web site has this page - https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/guidelines-for-use - which excludes free commercial usage, which makes it not possible to upload here until the permission is sorted out. Also we need to know where the basemap comes from - if you are using Google Maps as a base - their license is NOT compatible with ours. If the basemap is some other suitable open source map, then it may need to have it's own license on every image page - you will have to check the basemap license. The only way to get these images up is to go to COM:CONSENT - if the permission(s) can be validated, then they will undelete. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:10, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

First, there is one user who gets my pictures deleted because he did not believe me. He has later been blocked for six months from da-WP for other reasons. Now I tried again and sent mail. but you're deleting anyway fast. I feel very badly treated. --Tennisbold (talk) 17:20, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
@Tennisbold: All wikis (including commons) are run independently - we don't examine edits/blocks on other wikis. Uploading images that are not your own, is always a slow and difficult process. There are, sadly, too many editors uploading all sorts of images without a care of anyone's copyright. Hence the need to correctly validate the permission. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:33, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Now it's over three weeks since email was sent. How long will it take? --Tennisbold (talk) 22:14, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Dodgy Indian movie actor uploads

Hi, I am 99% sure that all of the uploads by this user are copyright violations but don't have the time to dig around. Aside from anything else, it is plain implausible that they are all "own work". Hi Ronhjones, this file is my original work from a graphic composition of cut and paste images using photoshop program. The image file was taken in our Organization collection and Archive of History of documents and pictures. The source of the picture is a free and non-copyright image for our member's organizational purpose & objective use. @Aajim: No such thing as copyright free. Copyright would have been gained at the time of the photo. usually by the photographer - I would expect that in the Philippines, it would expire 50 years after the photographer dies, and probably copyright in the US (95 years from the date of publication for works published between 1923 and 1977) until 2057. Hi Ronhjones. I noticed you tagged one of this editor's uploads as a copyvio. It seems that every file uploaded by this editor has been flagged for one reason or another. I've tried explaining the problem on their user talk page, but never got a response. Others have tried as well, but the copyvios continue. It's possible that this person may have difficulty understanding English, but at the same time they also seem to have not even a basic understanding of COM:L. There are four other files uploaded by this editor which might need reviewing as well: File:Aref Al Agha.jpg, File:Raja Rafe.jpg, File:Syria-cup.gif and File:Barada Club.jpg. The first two look like photos/screenshots, but there's no EXIF data to indicate "own work". They also can be seen used on quite a large number of soccer websites, so suspicion is that the files were lifted from one of them. The last two also look like files found online rather than created by the uploader. It might be time for a block to prevent the upload of any more copyvios. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:59, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello User:Ronhjones,

This is the official WikiCommons account of Brandon Taylorian, and I am the copyright holder of the image uploaded onto WikiCommons which you deleted. You can see that I am using the official email (<removed>) connected to the website from which the image originates (www.brandontaylorian.com).

I am the copyright holder for this image and for you to say that I am not, is highly illogical and against Wikipedia's guidelines of contribution as I am the person in the photo and I am the copyright holder as these photos originate from my website. I am therefore requesting an undeletion of the photo you deleted immediately. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Brandon Taylorian — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrandonTaylorian (talk • contribs) 13:53, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

No-one can see any e-mail addresses of any users. ALL users are effectively anonymous - You have to
  • Donate the copyright at COM:CONSENT - when the permission has been validated, then the image will be undeleted.
I've hidden your e-mail on this page, the spammers will find it otherwise. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:07, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Please note also that the copyright for photographs in most cases is not held by the person depicted but by the original photographer. So we need a permission coming directly from the photographer, or a copy of a written assigment of copyright where the photographer transferred their rights to you. @Peak Debt: Whoever thinks they control the copyright, needs to go to COM:CONSENT, and send in the e-mail template (Ideally from an identifiable e-mail domain - i.e. something like XXX@skycoin.net - gmail.com won't do here) The team will undelete when they have validated the permission. Hi Ron, Regarding User_talk:יוסי_האדום#Source_of_derivative_work_is_not_properly_indicated:_File:1953_-_Bronia_Rubinovitch_and_her_husband_Michael.jpg
I am not sure what is the problem with this photo, which includes a photo of my parents, and is their property, and has been taken by one of their friends. --יוסי האדום (talk) 20:52, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

@יוסי האדום: That's the problem - it's a photo of a photo. Copyright is not lost from the original when making a derivative work. Therefore it needs a license from the copyright holder of the original photo - so that will be the photographer (or whoever inherited their items if deceased). They need to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:37, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Recent Block

Who can I talk to about my recent block? These file deletions have stemmed from a long-standing issue. These photos are the property of my sister who took the photos at a concert in June 2016, and she gave me permission to use them and put them on wikipedia. They were deleted originally because the administrator @Hystrix: said that I did not have proper proof that they were mine. I thought that having her upload her own pictures that she owns to her own Flickr page would help solve the problem. I guess not. One of the pictures of Haley Reinhart that I used for her article is literally cropped from a photo of ME standing next to Haley? I don't understand how that is not proof that the pictures are my/my sister's property. Her flickr account is not a bad account and I believe this block was unfair. They are free images and they are her property that she has given me permission to use. That's why I asked her to post the photos under the Attribution Sharealike 2.0-Generic because I thought it would prove once and for all that the photos are not being used improperly/against copyright. Would it help if I had her send you an email, or send someone an email, stating that they are her property and she posted them on Flickr under the proper copyright? She also has the raw photos/videos from her phone that has her name imbedded in the file, and she can provide pics of the two of us to prove that we are the people in the photos on her flickr. Srimadh Bhagavad Gita 1.VishadaYoga.jpg

Hello Ronhjones,
I've used the text taken from here. Is it legal to mention the source as the website link?
--Gpkp (talk) 02:11, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

@Gpkp: Then the source is http://www.bhagavad-gita.org/Gita/chapter-01.html, but there is no copyright release on that page - you will need to work out if the copyright has expired - when was it written? it might be {{PD-old-100}} - but that is for you to decide - the list of allowable tags is at COM:TAG - an image can have more than one license - one for the original content and one (yours) for the compilation of that content. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:26, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Actual Mahabharata / Kurukshetra War, in which Bhagavadgita was taught, did happen in 3 to 4BCE, and the website has copyrights from 1998 to till date. I've changed the copyrights to {{PD-old-50}} accordingly now. Would you please check and respond.. . I've used copyrights as {Not-PD-US-URAA} accordingly now. Ronhjones, would you please check and respond.. .
--Gpkp (talk) 14:59, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
@Gpkp: No, no. you don't want that one. My first guess was probably correct. If you made the image from the data on that web site (which is PD due to it's age) then that is OK. If they made the image and you just copied it then they have a copyright in the way it has been composed, and we can't use it. They only have the copyright on the layout of their web site - they cannot claim copyright for the text once that is PD. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:14, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Ronhjones, Yes, actually I took all transparent verse images and made it look what it is right now. I mean, I didnt copy any entire layout. You can see single verses are different images in their website. Thank you very much for the extended concern. Now can I upload all remaining 17 chapters with the same copyright as its now with the image of chapter1 ? --Gpkp (talk) 15:45, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
@Gpkp: If you are just copying PD text, there is no issues. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:02, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Ronhjones, Thank you very much for the concerned replies. --Gpkp (talk) 15:32, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Possible recreation of deleted files

Hi Ronhjones. Can you tell if any of the files you deleted per Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Fhsig13 have been reuploaded as File:AFAC Medal.jpg, File:CCoC Pin.jpg, File:NLME.jpg or File:SCSM.jpg? If not, then it seems unlikely that these are 100% "own work" so to speak. It's possible the uploader possesses the medals, and took photographs of the them; however, I'm not sure that means the medal imagery is itself the uploader's "own work" and the copyright status of the medal might also need to be considered here. FWIW, File:CCoC Pin.jpg and File:AFAC Medal.jpg actually looks like they come from here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:02, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

File:Cryptochirality autocatalysis.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Y a-t-il une démarche particulière à faire ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdM (talk • contribs) 01:56, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
@AdM: Just nominate for deletion as "recreation of previously deleted image" (and link to image name if different) - you can add {{dont recreate|Image:Example.jpg}} to the user's page. Users with a low edit count get flagged at User:SteinsplitterBot/Previously deleted files automatically. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:08, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Portada libro Zafari.png

Hi Ronhjones. The image is the product of the scanning of the cover of the book Zafarí, published in Spain in 1942 (76 years ago) and for many years exhausted in commercial networks. Today you can only find it in collector's shops. The cover consists of a drawing, possibly made by the author of the book, who was a painter as well as a writer. The author died in 1946 (76 years ago) without offspring and I am sure that, if he lived, he would be very proud that his work was publicly known and used. You can see the author page https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Barragán_Montemayor in Wikipedia. --Majarova (talk) 04:47, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

@Majarova: possibly made is not good enough for commons. It need to be certain. Note that for an artist in Spain, dying before 1987, copyright is 80 years en:WP:NUSC, so if he did do the cover, then I think copyright will expire on 1st Jan 2027. Lack of offspring makes no difference, someone (cousin, second cousin, etc) would have inherited the copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 12:59, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Photos in museum

Hello Ron, Sorry for that. I hope this is the preferred manner in which to respond as well. Little troublesome navigating around Wikipedia. How does one respond? On mine, or yours, USER page? Or in the email sent to me?

For this response:

Your image or other content, File:George Doundoulakis promoted to First Sergeant, 1945, Cairo, Egypt.jpg, was recently deleted in accordance with our process and policies. You have recreated this content after it was deleted; please do not do this. If you would like to contest the deletion, please visit Commons:Undeletion requests and follow the instructions there to have the deletion reviewed. Recreating deleted content outside of process is not allowed, and doing so repeatedly may cause you to lose your editing privileges. Thank you for understanding.

Ronhjones (Talk) 21:03, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

If photo is in the National Hellenic Museum is there a system in place for that, such as Wikipedia's [content criteria]? If not, is there another preferred method to place a photo in that is under museum auspices and soon to be digitized and made public? CheersBigeez (talk) 22:37, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

@Bigeez: Photos of items in a museum are usually not allowed, but depends on country. A museum will have 2D and 3D items (paintings, photos are 2D, and sculptures are 3D). Having an item in "public place" can make it "Public Domain" Some countries call a museum a "public place" - e.g. UK and most of old UK empire - but often the work needs to be "permanent" - see Commons:Freedom_of_panorama for a list of countries - the US does not call a museam a public place, neither does it call a 2D work "public domain" because of it's display (the only 3D items that can be photographed in the US are buildings). Anyway, back to the point. You are only allowed to upload once - after that you have to request undeletion at Commons:Undeletion_requests for the original image - File:Fullsizeoutput 1f96.jpg. For the image to be free, you need to know who took the image, where the image was taken, and when they died (copyright is usually 70 years after photographer's death - but US copyright is a minefield of different rules for different times - that will depend if the image was published first in the US or somewhere else). If you can show that it was taken by US military, then there is no copyright. If totally unknown photographer, then it needs to be 120 years old. Oh, and Non-free images are never allowed on commons, you have to upload them on en-wiki (and add a fair-use rationale and a non free license) Sorry for long winded answer, but this is not an easy one.Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:18, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Permission for a 1874 file?

Hi Ronhjones. I don't quite see your point for your request for permission to use a 1878 photograph [1]. This photograph is Public Domain, having been shot in 1878, hence the {{pd-1923}} tag I've used. I've never heard of anything more needed for this kind of very old file, please enlighten me. Would a Pd-Art license be more appropriate?? पाटलिपुत्र (talk) 15:48, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

@पाटलिपुत्र: I changed the template - A US template slone is not suitable for non-US items. If it's in the BL - has there been any restoration? UK TOO is very low. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:58, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
I updated the licence for this particular file. It's PD because the photographer died in 1907 and/or works created in India before 1958 only had a copyright term of 50 years after creation. De728631 (talk) 16:14, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello sir, you have deleted an upload ( File:Sidi boumediene.jpg ) for copyright violation. The author and the source I have mentionned are original ones, the link you have sent of file copyright (https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Africa/Algeria/photo483756.htm) referred also to the original source and author (www.vitaminedz.com / author: Malek Ressam). Deletion of File:Bonus Island II in SuperTux 0.5.1.png

I have noticed that your name has been mentioned in the 'speedy deletion' notice. However, it is NOT a copyright violation.

The game, its resources and the worldmap are either licensed under the GNU General Public License for code or the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license for data. I took the screenshot myself and licensed it under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. Therefore I do not see why it would be copyright violation or why it was made subject to speedy deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brmbrmcar (talk • contribs) 23:03, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi. I haven't done much work with stamp files, and noticed that you speedied this page as a derivative work with no source. Am I missing something? All the best, Miniapolis 16:41, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

I agree, there nothing in Commons:Stamps/Public domain, so they are effectively 5 paintings, unless you can show that Swaziland stamps are PD. Someone painted those designs, and thereby (as Wikipedia:Non-U.S._copyrights) gains 50yeras pma copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:46, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Your speedy deletion requests

File:Harry Potter wordmark.svg This is public domain and File:Laufendes-Auge.svg this too (for others, see Category:PD ineligible) File:AvatarNN.png Why this or File:Mother (example).svg this shouldn't be public domain? Hello, why you nominate this too pictures for speedy deletion? AvatarNN.png have no COM:TO, to have copyright. If you nominate something for speedy delete (or delete something), please always check COM:TO. Habitator terrae (talk) 19:29, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Russia is not listed on COM:TOO, TOO varies extremely from country to country. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:37, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
I think do not listed, doesn't mean that they have no TOO. There is for example this file on Commons. Habitator terrae (talk)
I didn't say they had no TOO, but it's not precisely defined like a lot of countries. It therefore becomes more of a personal opinion. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:36, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

@FOX 52: If it's a derivative of File:Coat of Arms of Australia.svg, then it needs the same license. The source (own work) and license (self|cc-by-sa-4.0) said that you designed it from scratch! The centre part is not exactly the same, it also has other elements which are copyrightable. Australia has a low TOO - Commons:Threshold_of_originality#Australia, so it's an issue. Apology to bother you. To upload it is that I found the same file on the top of Hangzhou Metro in English Wikipedia seems to be able to use in English one only(I found no way to link to it otherwise), therefore the re-upload is to make it to be used in other projects, especially Chinese Wikipedia. Hope it can be restored.
In addition, if cannot be restored due to certain copyright reasons, it would be very kind of you to tell me how to link to the existed file in other Wikipedias. :)

@Vaykaaris: This logo was deleted in Feb 2014 - File:Hangzhou Metro Logo.svg, as well as some other Chinese logos. Hi Ronhjones, would you please revise the speedy deletion of the image carried out by you. I don't know the argumentation of the deletion request of User:Alinea but "copyvio" does not apply here. Pictures for the "Martin von Hase"-article

Ronhjones,

I saw that you again deleted all pictures related to the "Martin von Hase"-article.

We have the rights and licenses for all the pictures shown (as documented on the related commons-site) and re-sent the request to the permissions-team as well as a recovery request.

Apart from the pictures taken by Susanne von Hase, Martin von Hases husband, there is one picture that was taken in 1891 (!) that you also deleted.

As this is repeatedly creating new work for everybody, I really cannot understand why you cannot simply wait until the permissions-team responded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1813Leipzig (talk • contribs) 17:49, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

@1813Leipzig: They were all re-uploads out of process. We allow you to upload once. Please go to Commons:Undeletion requests and request undeletion, using the original file names. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:55, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Copy right violations

Hi Ronhjones Can you please look at Ahbullo (talk · contribs). They had uploaded quite a few images with Copyright violations and I had warned them a few days ago. It seems they have re-uploaded some of those images again. Maybe a further warning or a short-term block might be required. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 21:06, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jagseer01: There are stamps and signatures which you did not design, or own the copyright Ronhjones  (Talk) 10:29, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi Ron, I'd say the the fee stamps (top right) are de minimis, and the signatures are not copyrightable. Signatures are not included in the definition of works eligible for copyright in India, and even as an 'artistic work' these would be too simple for copyright. De728631 (talk) 11:17, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Sir, Stamps belongs to Notary Public and signature in this image is belongs to one of my customers and they have no issue to share it publicly, and even i've deleted his name in image. --Jagseer01 (talk) 11:22, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Deletion dispute

File:Lora - Wassabi IMG 1372 (2596797731) (cropped).jpg was already deleted and undeleted, and the undeleting admin left a note that it was undeleted (at my and the uploader's request) pending a discussion about it. Feel free to nerf my tagging so we don't get into a wheel-war mess here. DMacks (talk) 04:03, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

@DMacks: I missed the one line above the speedy box (the box does tend to stand out!). I've restored it for now. do what you want with it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:18, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! DMacks (talk) 19:52, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Ronhjones.

You deleted this file arguing that there is "copyright violation: © Musée-Archives-Bibliothèque- Grande Loge de France - NOT public domain in its home country on the URAA date".

But as I was saying to Patrick Rogel, it seems a copyfraud from the Musée-Archives-Bibliothèque- Grande Loge de France. Indeed, the Bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris confirms that the author is anonymous ("J.J.S. (19..-) [Illustrateur]") and the poster has entered the public domain ("Droits domaine public") [4].

Therefore, the Musée-Archives-Bibliothèque- Grande Loge de France is claiming copyright ownership of public domain material.

PD-EU-Anonymous et PD-1996 would apply.

Regards. --Guise (talk) 08:27, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

@Guise: The problem here that it's a picture of a picture of a set of stills. Now maybe the poster compiler is unknown, but the still images from the film will have a different author. On reflection, it's probably best to run it as a DR. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:28, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Also PD-1996 - the poster must be PD in country of origin in 1996 - now 1943+71 = 2014 after 1996 - so PD-1996 is not the correct license. on that basis it's PD in US in 2039. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:35, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

We cannot identify any user on commons (all users are effectively anonymous), you will need to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the permission - especially since someone has uploaded it before (and it has been deleted), with a description of "author=Western Vinyl" Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:24, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Official Movie Posters

Hello. I recently created two official movie pages with posters. For Blood and She Will Be Loved (movie). You deleted both movie posters, and I am curious why; there are hundreds of published dedicated movie pages here that have the film posters. These one sheets are in the public domain, and I have been given complete permission/consent from the IP owner to publish this content. If you will, please help me better understand this process, so that the Theatrical Creative can stay on the official movie page. Thank you.--Veritasmultimedia (talk) 13:11, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@Veritasmultimedia: I did not delete them. Please check the page. Also...
  1. You claimed you owned the copyright of the posters. You may do, but all users are anonymous, so we can not validate that.
  2. There was no web link provided to verify the license. If there is no web link, the the copyright holder must go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. The OTRS team will undelete when the permission has been validated.
  3. If the material is PD then you used the wrong license. The license must be correct or it gets deleted.
You can request undeletion at Commons:Undeletion_requests and give them the correct information. Please do not re-upload, you can only upload once, after that they tend to get deleted very quickly as "re-upload out of process." Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:09, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Photo rights Tali Sharot

Hello You twice deleted a photo uploaded of Tali Sharot claiming the rights belonged to WSB. This is incorrect. I myself gave WSB the photo and gave them permission to use it on their cite. Why would you assume they have the rights? I have the rights of this photo and will gladly forward you the email in which I forwarded the photo to WSB. You are also welcome to ask WSB if they have the rights, to which they will promptly tell you they do not. The fact that a website uploaded a photo obtained from the subject does not at all imply that website has the rights. I am about to upload the photo again. Please do not delete it again. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scotishdancer (talk • contribs) 18:25, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@Scotishdancer: Images always need to be uploaded here first, or it is always assumed that they are a copyright violation. This is standard practice here. If you need to confirm ownership then you will have to go to COM:CONSENT. Then the OTRS team will undelete when they have validated your claim. We do not chase the permission for you. Please do not upload again - you may only upload a file once. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:33, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

School pictures?

The original uploader of file:Marikina Science High School (model).png said it was Own Work - is there a reason to disbelieve that? DS (talk) 04:56, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@DragonflySixtyseven: It's not clear enough what it is. Is it a picture of a model (who made the model?). Is is a copy of an artitect's image (who is the architect?). Is it a screenshot of a copyrighted software image?. I know it's been languishing in en-wiki for years (I was clearing out the "moved to commons"). I don't think there is enough info for commons. I could change it to a DR for comments if you like. I've moved plenty of en-wiki images using FTCG, to commons, and there are plenty there that just don't have enough info to move and survive in the current climate here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:41, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Also considering the author is an SPA, my guess is that it's a copy of the artitect's image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:45, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Inquiry into rationale for labeling Flickr uploader a "bad user"

Why did you label 62558987@N07 a "bad user"? SecretName101 (talk) 01:24, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

I ask because there are valuable flickr images by this flickr user that appear to be their own work. Would it be inadvisable to upload any works from this flickr account?? Or is it simply that some of their images are problematic, but not all?? SecretName101 (talk) 07:22, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

@SecretName101: It does not stop you uploading them, just stops the Flickr Review Bot from auto approving, thus it will need a manual approval. https://www.flickr.com/photos/62558987@N07/32493693153 was the flickrwashed image taken from https://www.eonline.com/news/833604/emma-watson-on-her-beauty-and-the-beast-premiere-look-i-do-not-look-like-this-normally (Alex J. File:Men with Wings 02.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

There is no source mentioned of any picture in the book, so i cannot write the name of original source. Book is published by book corner jhelum publishers.

Their website is Book Corner Jhelum.

Permission for pictures related to Swamp Works article?

Hi Ronhjones, Can you clarify for me what kind of permission I need for the figures that were deleted from Draft:Swamp Works? I had replied to every picture's request for permission. They are all NASA photographs taken by NASA photographers on official duty, so they all fall under the NASA use policy and are all OK to use. Some were deleted and some were not, but I don't know what made the difference. I would like to find out so I can get the deleted ones restored. Do you know? Thank you for any help you can give.

Spacenerd149 (talk) 18:50, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

@Spacenerd149: We need to know that they are NASA. They need a link to the image on NASA's site. Just start undeletion requests on COM:UDR and state the link needed. Without a link we cannot verify that they are NASA images.

Looks like the last one was my error - sorry, I'll fix that, I think I must have viewed the other two first and assumed that was the same. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:00, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your annotations. There will not be any confirmation of the rights within 7 days, because the author / possessor of the photos himself (Ivo Ingram Beikircher aged 81 years and not very healthy at the moment, a member of the family concerned with the articles) has sent them to me from there private family archives. Family archives cannot be treated like other sources, so you will have to accept this like it is. I wonder much about the often very offending words that are used from so-called supervisors and others treating well-merited scholars like foolish little children. I had accepted to put these articles on wikipedia because I thought that there was a certain interest to contribute to enlargement of knowledge about people of passed times who were connected, as is visible from the articles, to important contemporanean politics and so on. Another article that had to be improved - the annotation is not by you - was corrected in time. The quotation of improving the article with a one word order ("Vollprogramm") is widely out of range what I personally know from scientific publications, it is merely disgusting.

Nevertheless I will contact Mr Beikircher and molest him for what you asked for. It is a nongracious act that you have to take for your own. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martin Fiedler (talk • contribs) 09:54, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

Not trying to recreate deleted image

Hi Ronhjones, I'm grateful for your useful comments/ advice but I fear that I'm facing a kind of ridiculous situation when uploading my own Photo for my infobox (same as you have yours). As you can see I always try to upload the same photo and my the problem (inexperience) was that I didn't fill rightly the copyright info till I followed the instructions correcting the html source. Suddenly I did it yesterday! and Wikipedia Commons accepted the upload.

But again it was deleted (with your message) when I included it in the infobox.

Surely, again I did something wrong that I ignore but certainly, I'm not trying to recreate anything but simply to get one (the same) photo for the empty infobox.

History: Funnily enough, the photo who is absolutely mine made with my own camera was deleted some time ago because another wiki contributor said that it is impossible to own a self-photo without some other person taking it. Then I changed the info giving credit to the photographer (that happen to be my own daughter) with all the public licenses. OK, and that's the new © info I included in the last upload.

Please, first accept my apologies if you think I'm trying to insist in a wrong action. Second, can you give me any simple solution for something that I consider a bit ridiculous from my side?

Many thanks, Enrique Nicanor (talk) 11:06, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

@Enrique Nicanor: The system is that you are allowed to upload once, then go to COM:UDR to discuss undeletion when it gets deleted. Subsequent uploads are automatically flagged as re-uploads. I find (in date order)
  • File:EnriqueNicanorMay15 2009CannesFestival.jpg
  • File:E Nicanor CannesFestival 2009 @@@.jpg
  • File:E.Nicanor 2009.jpg
So ideally you need to go request undeletion of the first image and explain the reasons. They may suggest that the photographer use COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. (Selfies are possible, you just need a camera and tripod and use the 10 second self-timer. Which is why my dog is the wrong way round - she decided to turn back just before the picture took...) Following your advice

Hi, Many thanks for your kind work on my subject and clear answer. I'll try those paths. Your dog was a wise, innovative and creative one adopting that position. Enrique Nicanor (talk) 16:36, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

But it doesn't look like a standard poodle in that position... Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:59, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi! You deleted this image here. The licence process was delayed and now the Swedish OTRS agents have been notified of the need to process this ticket, which is #2018041710012371 and not contested by the OTRS agents.

The OTRS agents (ref. ticket #2018091210004843) want me to reupload the image. But I cannot upload a deleted image, it seems. The upload system stops my attempt and points me to this deletion log. I'm at a loss of what to do know. Can you help in solving this? @Riggwelter: , for info about this process. Best of wishes/--Paracel63 (talk) 14:34, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

@Paracel63: I've restored it so that Swedish OTRS can finish off - I would have done it for them, but google translate on their last answer did not make any sense! Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:06, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks! I'll notify the other OTRS agents right away. As the uploader I cannot acknowledge the ticket, so I dearly hope they get things going this time around.--Paracel63 (talk) 22:21, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
Sorted. And yes, Google Translate treats Swedish with a certain lack of sensitivity... :-) Riggwelter (talk) 06:32, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
@Riggwelter: 👍 Many thanks!--Paracel63 (talk) 17:01, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

File:VincenzoPiuri.jpg

Hi. Sorry to bother. You deleted the photo https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:VincenzoPiuri.jpg and I kindly ask you what was wrong. After I was requested to fix the copyright issue, I replaced the photo with one I took myself and which I put in the public domain. The copyright statement was modified accordingly. I am baffled now. Best Roesassi (talk) 22:26, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

@Roesassi: It would have been easier to have given the new upload a new name. Adding a new image does not remove the old one - it's still fully visible in the history on the page, you need to request revision delete on the first image when overwriting a "bad" image. I've sorted it all out now for you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:06, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for explanation and for solving directly the issue. --Roesassi (talk) 17:59, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Warning about derivative work

Hi, I am Agct87 and I received alerts for 4 maps that I uploaded. It stated that they are derivative work, I didn't use images of maps, instead I used spatial information of the GADM project (https://gadm.org) and also publid data to generate the maps. I changed the source to: "Own, map created with spatial information provided by https://gadm.org". Is that ok? Thank you, Andrés Christiansen — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.164.131.151 (talk) 21:07, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

@Agct87: Sadly, gadm does not have an acceptable license - "The data are freely available for academic use and other non-commercial use. Redistribution, or commercial use is not allowed without prior permission." Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:48, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Ok, I didn't know that. It also states "Using the data to create maps for academic publishing is allowed." Isn't wikipedia academic or non-commercial? I did not use the data of gadm, I used the map, the data is from https://www.tse.gob.sv/ (the electoral tribunal of El Salvador). — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.164.131.151 (talk) 22:25, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

@Agct87: The most strict license we allow is cc-by-sa-4.0 - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/. Full commercial re-use is allowed. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:29, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Written approval

Can a picture be used if creator wrote on web-site that reproduction is allowed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikolai011 (talk • contribs) 03:58, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@Nikolai011: Depends on what the person wrote. If you mean "Reproduction is allowed in the whole and parts with specifying content source" - probably not enough for commons, we do like to make sure that any re-use includes commercial usage. You can always ask such questions at Commons:Village pump/Copyright, and get more input. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:07, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
