User:Dsmatthews

Hello

I am contacting to report a case of harassment and vandalism. (The welcome pages says I should contact an admin directly. It seem this site doesn't have the equivalent of ANI in English Wikipedia.)

It is in Commons:Deletion requests/File:K-3d example, rendered in LuxRender.jpg. There is this User:Dsmatthews who has recently tried to disrupt the discussion by:

Can you do something about it?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Thanks. You are the best. He has definitely stopped vandalizing, although he has switched to casting aspersions. Well... what did I expect? —Codename Lisa (talk) 01:32, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Due diligence on the part of an Administrator will uncover the truth with regard to the "Codename Lisa & Fleet Command" entity which I maintain is a vexatious - Sock/Meatpuppet phenomena who preys on "newbies" in order to create drama then have them "punished" for it. If an Administrator requires assistance they can contact me directly about it. I would place the information here but the dossier (thanks M. for all that work) on the "Codename Lisa & Fleet Command" entity runs to several pages and is derived from data already on the servers anyway, it is a collation of facts that are compelling. Personally I'd rather spend my time fulfilling citation requests by researching books on archive.org than waste any more time on "Codename Lisa & Fleet Command". This sort of "game" that they play for pleasure is Pathological, and harmful to individual contributors and more broadly to wikimedia and wikipedia. --Dsmatthews (talk) 19:33, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello. A bit of an edit conflict! You deleted the file literally seconds after I created a DR for it. Would you mind if I restore the file for at least seven days to give the uploader a chance to explain if there is permission (seeing as it’s been here nine years and is in use)? Cheers. It's still in violation of copyright laws, isn't it? It was taken from her personal website which isn't in the Public Domain, and the author - as far we know - hasn't released it in the PD. Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 00:09, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: It's exactly the same size as the image on https://fr.usembassy.gov/our-relationship/our-ambassador/, so I do believe it was properly copied from that US Gov site. If you wish to question if a US Gov site image is PD or not then maybe a proper deletion discussion. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:17, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Would You be so kind and undelete it? Thank You. Podvečerníček (talk) 13:53, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

@Podvečerníček: Restored as own work - this was all down to the word "logo" in the title, and may well cause you problems in future - most logos are not allowed on commons. I would suggest a re-name. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:12, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello, the image i uploaded is a graphic work by Mustapha Bulama. He did it as a tribute to Late Gidado Idris, whose page I edited and I requested his permission before doing so. It appears that dailytrust paper was sighted as the copyright owner, but it is not, they only use it as a public property too. It is the property of an artist Mustapha Bulama who has allowed its public usage. Here you can contact the owner via facebook for verification: https://web.facebook.com/mustapha.bulama.1

@Belshagy: Only the copyright holder can donate the his copyright. He must go to COM:CONSENT to donate it Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:12, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi. You deleted the referenced image for the following reason: "Copyright violation: http://globalpositioningservices.net/wp-content/uploads/1994/07/Damian-Taylor-GPS-profile-2.jpg". Firstly, we own the image and I am "globalpositioningservices.net" - I uploaded that photo there myself, too. If you would like to confirm by emailing my address at the server, that is fine and I will provide with the information. Secondly, merely because the image exists elsewhere on the internet does not necessarily mean that anyone else uploading the file cannot be its owner. Please undo your deletion? How can I prevent this from occurring again as it is frustrating? Thank you.

@PopTalk: Everyone on commons is "anonymous". Nothing here can be verified. http://globalpositioningservices.net/client/damian-taylor/ says Copyright GPS. Your choice is add a CC-BY-SA-4.0 template under the image on that page (see https://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?license_code=by-sa&jurisdiction=&version=4.0&lang=en) OR goto COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright (use an identifying e-mail domain) Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:06, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones! You deleted one image I uploaded a couple of days ago File:Piazza del Duomo, Trento.jpg. How can I publish it accoringly to wikimedia commons rule? thanks.
@Webteam unitrento: The image has been published on the net before uploading here, at https://international.unitn.it/incoming/trento. See my answer above for File:Damian_Taylor.png - this is the same problem. Therefore the copyright holder needs to formally donate the copyright, as we cannot prove who you are here. Recent deletion

Hi can I ask why you deleted my two recent uploads (File:PEM System (in use).png and File:PEM System.png), without even informing me? You have deleted them for copyright violation, despite the very clear Creative Commons noticed on the page you referenced: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5612739/figure/fig1

"This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited." Beevil (talk) 12:33, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

@Beevil: The deleting admin does not notify, that is (should) be done by the person who flagged it as a copyvio. I've restored them for now, but you do need to address the license - the one on the web page is probably not specific enough - it is effectively saving "CC-BY" that normally defaults to {{CC-BY-1.0}}, as it is not showing a version number, that also contradicts with the article which is showing CC-BY-SA-4.0, they need to be the same.
If you follow the DOI link to journal page, "Creative Commons Attribution Licence" is linked to [1] cc-by-4.0. Did no one involved in the deletion check the source links provided at all? Beevil (talk) 15:26, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
@Beevil: The only pages I saw were https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/about/copyright/ and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/tools/openftlist/, neither had a version number, you cannot expect us to traipse through dozens of links to find a possible answer, we will do a few pages and give up. I note you left the important permission field blank in the information template - this is where the link to the permission statement should go. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:38, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
You would not have had to traipse through dozens of pages to find that the images were licensed under creative commons, that was written on the link you quoted when deleting. A grand total of two links, were provided in the source, (both state creative commons, one has the link to cc-by-4.0, admittedly one link is duplicated by the journal reference template). I don't know how you found your way to those two pages. I uploaded using the upload wizard, the "important" permission field is not mentioned. Beevil (talk) 15:48, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Found from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5612739/figure/fig1/ which was quoted in the speedy deletion template. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:45, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

What is the basis to remove my old figure on zinc acetate lozenges and the common cold?

You deleted my figure https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:The_effect_of_zinc_acetate_lozenges_on_the_duration_of_the_common_cold.svg&action=edit&redlink=1 on the basis that (Copyright violation: No under an open license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/) (global usage; delinker log)

Shouldn't you first have the "original" somewhere that I have copied? So that you can specifically state what is the copyright violation. This is pure speculation that I might have coped the figure somewhere.

The figure was based on Table 3 of https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3136969/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3136969/table/T3/ (the table)

The figure was constructed from the numbers of that table, but the above paper did not publish the figure. Furthermore, The above paper states: "Author information ► Article notes ► Copyright and License information ▼ Copyright © Harri Hemilä; Licensee Bentham Open. This is an open access article licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/) which permits unrestricted, non-commercial use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the work is properly cited."

The removed figure was constructed in 2013 I published the figure in a 2015 paper as figure 1 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4359576/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4359576/figure/Fig1/

The 2015 paper states: "Copyright © Hemila and Chalker; licensee BioMed Central. 2015 This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly credited. The Creative Commons Public Domain Dedication waiver (http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/) applies to the data made available in this article, unless otherwise stated."

Where do you find the copyright violation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hhemila (talk • contribs) 19:06, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

@Hhemila: The only link you provided on the image page was https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3136969/, we therefore click the "Copyright and License information" under the author name - which clearly says "This is an open access article licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/) which permits unrestricted, non-commercial use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the work is properly cited." CC-BY-NC-3.0 is not allowed on commons. If this is your image, then I suggest go for a proper copyright release at COM:CONSENT Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:41, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Ahmed Alkooheji Communications Symbol.png

Hello, I have acquired permission for public use from the source to use the image, though I am unaware of how to show said proof. And the letter is directed to me with my real name, so I rather show it to a specific entity than publish it. Ahmed289 (talk) 15:13, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Flickr user mikecogh

I was working my way through one of the Flickr files without a source backlogs and I came across File:Train crosses tram, Melbourne.jpg. I found the source and when I went to verify everything it came up that the author was on the blacklist. Digging deeper I seem to have fallen down the rabbit hole. Specifically in regards to Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Flickr images from bad authors and the fact that they still seem to be listed at Category:Flickr images from bad authors. I understand your concern and the one copyvio is troubling. Is there any other instances where this Flickr user has license laundered? It just seems a little strange to have those images sit there in perpetuity just because of one bad image. The image that brought me here does appear to be their own work. It is properly attributed to them in a wide range of different places already. How should I proceed here? --Majora (talk) 01:50, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

@Majora: It's always better to play safe. The question is - was that one image a deliberate attempt at flickrwashing or was it a single mistake by the flickr owner? A quick look using his flickr code in a seach shows lots of pictures, however I'm not that happy about File:Turf Poster (37506845340).jpg, File:Dated Frame (30673605276).jpg, File:Platypus History Snapshots (26969925424).jpg, File:A Draw! (36207953933).jpg, File:Robert Louis Stevenson Portrait (30643977611).jpg, File:Interior Revealed (27115831003).jpg, File:Masonic Leadlight.jpg - and I have not looked at all of them. I think this is a prolific photographer who takes images in good faith, but manages to fall foul of the copyright rules - but not deliberately. My suggestion would be to keep him on the blacklist, then manually make an assessment on each image. If not on blacklist then more poor images will get slipped through. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:36, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Oh so we are able to do that? And remove the image from the bad authors category if they check out? I'm new to the whole license review thing so I don't know what is permitted and what isn't. --Majora (talk) 22:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
@Majora: The admin closed Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Flickr images from bad authors as keep, so I change the flickr banners on those 5 images - that needs to be done by an admin or reviewer. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:37, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Alright then. That works. I changed over the one that brought me here. Thanks for the info. Now I know for the future. --Majora (talk) 22:51, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Correct me if I am mistaken, but it DOES NOT meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection. The O letter is this image with the different color scheme, I won't even talk about letters.--Betakiller (talk) 20:35, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

@Betakiller: If it's the same image then you have to show that link on the logo page, otherwise it's looks copyrightable. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:39, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

About FUNTORO Logo use

Good day! I am creating FUNTORO Article in another languages and want to use FUNTORO LOGO in its infobox, but turned out failed.
Here's the link of FUNTORO logo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_of_MSI_FUNTORO,_Jan_2018.png
Can you give me some advice about it?
Thanks you!

@B3581475: Logos are always a pain, as commons only accepts free images. It might work with a {{PD-textlogo}} license (it cannot be a cc-by-sa type without the company's permission) - but you need to find out if the Commons:Threshold of originality for the country the company comes from will allow that. Suggest ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright, you could be lucky here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 13:32, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

You deleted the files too fast

Hello, you deleted two pictures – Aline Griffith, Jacqueline Kennedy and the Duchess of Alba.jpg and Aline Griffith Countess of Romanones.jpg – without reading my comments on the talk page. In them, I explained that these images belong to a foundation which I was a member of. I was in the process of correcting the license when you deleted them. Baidelan (talk) 12:41, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

@Baidelan: It called speedy delete for a reason, we will not host copyright images once found. You can write what you like here, it cannot make a difference - your identity cannot be verified within these pages, all users are effectively anon. The only way is to go to COM:CONSENT and e-mail the OTRS team, and an OTRS agent will validate your claim. Once you have been identified as the copyright holder, then the images will be restored. Ronhjones  (Talk) 12:59, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
This user is vandalizing pages by deleting images without doing the proper research or taking the time to even make proper inquiries. He did it today with a photo of Angie Rowntree. Jefferythomas
@Jefferythomas: I assume you mean File:Angie head-shot-sm.jpg - It's been at http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2014-11-12-angiebig.JPG for 3 years. If it truly belongs to the uploader then he must go through COM:CONSENT and prove ownership - there is no other way. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:41, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
Did you even think for a second that the proper thing to do would be to would be to contact the uploader and ask them to do that? Did it even occur to you that the image may have been provided as part of a PR package? Or is deleting content your thing? Jefferythomas
@Jefferythomas: We do not allow copyright violations to stay. It's up to the uploader to sort it out. If I had not deleted it, someone else would. That's the way it works - one person tags it as a copyright violation and providing their data is correct it gets deleted by someone else - all copyvios are deleted as speedy deletes. If you don't like that, then you have to get the policies changed. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:57, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Would you express your opinions and recommendations about the two versions of File:The_British_Empire.png?

Hello.

Would you express your opinions and recommendations about the two versions of File:The_British_Empire.png:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/The_British_Empire.png (the broad definition of the British Empire) which I User:Maphobbyist and before me User:Brythones uploaded based on sources.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/2/26/20180202232408%21The_British_Empire.png (the narrow definition of the British Empire) which User:Wiki-Ed uploaded.

There are disagreements on this file (which long precedes me) between myself User:Maphobbyist and User:Wiki-Ed who has disputed the broad definition also with User:Brythones long before me.

The dispute can be read in Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections#Full protection for File:The British Empire.png under the section "Full protection for File:The British Empire.png"

Thank you.

Kris Brownlee.jpg or Kris Brownlee 2012.jpg

Hi Ronhjones! I know you are just trying to do your part in keeping Wikimedia safe and fair of lawsuits. Being still new to Wikimedia/Wikipedia, I don't understand how this infringes on any copyright, since it is no longer on www.krisbrownlee.com/gallery. The only reason why I re-uploaded it, is because I removed it off my website and was unfamiliar with Wikimedia's policies. I own this file as it is a picture of me. How do I go about releasing this file so it can be used on Wikipedia. There has to be way because companies such as Apple use the same graphic on their website and on Wikipedia. If you need me to prove that it is actually me I can take a selfie of myself or send you a video to your private email. Please Advise! Uploads by QuantumDeveloperTeam

Hi Ronhjones. You just deleted File:EuroAsia Map.jpg which I tagged as a copyvio. I think it might be a good idea to check all of the files uploaded by Special:Contributions/QuantumDeveloperTeam for more copyvios. I also found File:EuroAsiaJan2012.jpg since it can be seen here. Just a guess, but this might be a case where someone working at that website is uploadeding the photos as "own work", and maybe all that is needed is OTRS verification. The account is only about a week old, so the uploader probably is not familiar with COM:L. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:01, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

The project is a celebration of the visual diversity of Africa on Wikipedia and its sister projects. There are several fun ways you can help us to make the impact of Wiki Loves Africa stronger:

  • Add more categories to your images so that people will find them to use them in articles ... you can see how to do this here: Quick Guide to Categories on Commons
  • Add your image to a relevant Wikipedia article, i.e. if your image shows a tailor sewing, then add the image to an article on Sewing or Tailors - this allows readers to see different global perspectives of a universal subject. You can see how to do this here: How to insert images into Wikipedia using WikiText
  • Improve the images description to make them easier to understand and reuse.
  • If there is no article that reflects the subject of your images, then start an article about that subject. If you are a new editor, you can see how to do that here: Creating your first article
  • Add more images - you can add more images or media that reflect interesting and encyclopedic subjects in your immediate community.
  • Become involved in (or start) your local Wikimedia community groups - it is a lot of fun, and is important! Find the existing groups here: Wikimedia groups across Africa

We look forward to seeing your contributions!!

Warmest,

Anthere for the Wiki Loves Africa Team

@Magog the Ogre: If you are happy with it, then go ahead Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:44, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ron; over in German-language Wikipedia, User:Scriptor introductionum asked on the Administrator's Noticeboard about deleted Commons uploads by him and about his block as "Abusing multiple accounts: user:Slowking4" (blocked by you). At a first glance, he doesn't look like User:Slowking4 to me: Apparently, Scriptor introductionum is a native German speaker and he's quite active in German-language Wikipedia, whilst Slowking4 probably never made a German-language edit (I haven't checked every single log entry, but his contributions in German-language WP I checked were the results of version history imports from English Wikipedia in translated articles). Also, Scriptor introductionum claims that the images were correctly licensed, but probably in error, per outcome of Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:MacArthur Foundation Images of Fellows. Gestumblindi (talk) 20:43, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

After a closer look: Slowking4 added his vote here in an appeal of German-language community members to the WMF (in 2013), and also added a template to his (or, apparently, rather her, as the template is using the female parameter, sorry - I think I should adopt the English usage of singular they when referring to users...) German Wikipedia user page as a participant of an event in Berlin 2016, but still no actual German-language edit... - whilst Scriptor introductionum has done a lot of German-language editing. Gestumblindi (talk) 21:03, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
@Gestumblindi: Fine if you are happy, it's very unusual to find 4 re-uploads by a different user with such similar file names, but obviously not impossible.
As far as I can see the file names here bear no relation to the web site file names, but the names and numbering are still rather similar between the 2 users, if not a sock, maybe a friend... Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:45, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
In fact, the file names used by Scriptor introductionum correspond to the file names at this download page, e.g. https://www.macfound.org/media/photos/abraham_2013_hi-res-download1.jpg = File:Abraham 2013 hi-res-download1.jpg (also, the upload was in connection with German Wikipedia's article de:Kyle Abraham created by this user)... anyway, I see that Elcobbola already unblocked the user. Gestumblindi (talk) 23:11, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
the propensity of commons admins to indef block as a sock by JCB, INC, and you, without a checkuser, has been noticed elsewhere. it tends to undermine the credibility of commons admins. your suspension of AGF is disappointing. rest assured, i will not repeatedly upload items, and projecting that behavior without evidence is disappointing as well. you should expect to see repeated uploads of macarthur items, since the deletion decision is perverse and paradoxical to the naive editor. are they all socks? lol. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge 15:48, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
Ronhjones evidently acted in good faith. Intersection of accounts and IPs in files is a credible indicator of sock puppeteering, but—like any statistical criterion—it gives sometimes false positives. Thanks to Elcobbola for a prompt correction. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 16:46, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
changing the subject - but if you will show no AGF towards new editors, you should expect no AGF in return. you set the standard. the abuse of blocking tools by this admin corps is now well documented on german wikipedia. "false positives" is not an acceptable excuse. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge 22:13, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

This file has a ticket in Ticket:2018022510004028, it just has the filename with underscores though. Unfortunately, OTRS hasn't given me a sufficient response and just gave me an automated reply in https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#File:Perjalanan_Hidup_Saya.pdf_--_copyright_holder_email. Aumars (talk) 15:43, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

@Aumars: If you send in an e-mail permission, you should add {{OTRS pending}} to the description page. Please do not re-upload - it's not allowed and it will get flagged up. I'll ignore that this time, and added the template for you. If not processed in 30 days, it might get deleted, then you have to wait until the OTRS team have sorted it out and undeleted it. Thank you for the help and forgive me for breaking the rules. Aumars (talk) 19:20, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Facebook

Greetings! I understand what you mean regarding the October 2015 upload date for this file. However, the file was already uploaded elsewhere online prior to that, such as on the Outbackfestival website (August 2015 [4]). The later October 2015 photograph date that the Commons uploader provided is therefore invalid, as is his/her own work claim. A larger version of this file appears here, and it is credited to Williams' Facebook page. Facebook is therefore probably where the file actually originates and was cropped from. Could you please adjust the templates accordingly? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 04:37, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

@Soupforone: The facebook suggestion helps - https://www.facebook.com/WarrenHWilliamsDaniYoung/photos/a.663408027092069.1073741827.663399483759590/679498108816394/?type=3&theater - one day before upload here. Image deleted. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:31, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! Could you please also delete the file revisions on this reuploaded file? They contain this file, which appears to be copyrighted. Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 18:35, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi. It's my own recording. Why did you delete the file? איליה מעזיה (talk) 16:48, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

@איליה מעזיה: You have uploaded this files 3 times, that's two times more than is allowed. You need to go back to the original deleting admin of File:Sound of Armenian Duduk.ogg and request undeletion or go to Commons:Undeletion_requests. It was deleted as a derivative file - meaning the sounds on the recording were not actually made by yourself, but were by someone else - all the persons making the sounds need to give their permission. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:55, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

As far as I know I uploaded the file twice. I thought it was mistakenly deleted. I stated that I am the only one who plays at this recording and there are no other "sounds" there! איליה מעזיה (talk) 16:57, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

@איליה מעזיה: Correction it was twice - still to many. You still have to ask for undeletion by deleting admin (user:JuTa) or at Commons:Undeletion_requests Also is the music played your own composition - if not we need the composer's permission. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:11, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Ridiculous!

Your deletion of "Gutenberg.org blocking SFischer.jpg" is absolutely ridiculous. One might think, there are some other motivations ... --89.15.236.193 05:03, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

@Juan Hispalense: Your image had "source=Desconocido", "author=Desconocido", and no license. If the image was not created by yourself, then it needs as much information as possible. Who was Desconocido? When did (s)he die? What country was the image made in? What date was the image made? Where did you actually find the image? Plus you need to pick the appropriate license from Commons:Copyright_tags. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:53, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Aldea Poetica Copyright Violation

Hello Ronhjones,

you marked my picture as a possible copyright violation when I am quite certain that I marked those pictures as my own content (which they indeed are). Because of your complaint my pictures have been taken down so I would like to know the reasons why you marked them as a violation for future uploads. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Operaprimaedicionpersonal (talk • contribs) 09:51, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

@Operaprimaedicionpersonal: Both images were marked as "author=Opera Prima" and "source=http://www.edicionpersonal.com/tienda/libros/opera-prima/aldea-poetica-i-la-poesia-nos-une/" You can only uploaded free content or content that you definitely own the copyright. If content has been shown on a web site before uploading here, then we have to use the web site permission - unless the copyright holder goes through the COM:CONSENT process. http://www.edicionpersonal.com/tienda/libros/opera-prima/aldea-poetica-i-la-poesia-nos-une/ does not show any indication of a free image. One of the main pages of that site shows "© opera prima S.L. Copyright 1995-2015 - All Rights Reserved", which is not compatible of being used here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Screenshot

Hi Ronhjones. What is considered a "screenshot"? I know what is it but, how can I differentiate a screenshot from another image which isn't a screenshot? Why this isn't a screenshot and the image I uploaded is considered a screenshot? Greetings. Tajotep (talk) 00:16, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

@Tajotep: Two years is the answer. US copyright law changes often - see https://copyright.cornell.edu/publicdomain - File:Hank Worden-John Wayne in McLintock!.jpg is a screenshot, but it's 1963 and no evidence of copyright renewal. 1965 is too late - copyrighted until 2060. You also had cc-by-sa-4.0 license, and there's no evidence of that license ever being applied. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:36, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi picture and permissions

Hi Ronhjones, thanks for tagging the Bisi photograph with the permissions template. FYI, I checked in with the uploader, and they have sent the permissions form to OTRS. I'd appreciate making sure with OTRS before deleting the image... I wrote the original stub for the enWP article, and am helping run the #VisibleWikiWomen challenge, so I feel a particular commitment to making sure the photograph stays up with full permissions! Many thanks, Anasuyas (talk) 01:11, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

@Anasuyas: Add {{OTRS Pending}} to the file page on commons c:File:Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.jpg Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Ronhjones, I missed tagging the file with the {OTRS pending} template simply because life happened this past week - sometimes it does. Despite pinging you on it, you've deleted the file. We are doing our best with #VisibleWikiWomen and similar efforts to ensure that women's faces - particularly from the global South - are not made invisible on Wikimedia and Wikipedia; we know Wikipedia suffers significantly from information gaps about women and the global South, in particular. I had hoped that experienced admins such as yourself would help us with this effort, not make it tougher. All support - and practical advice/actions - would be muchly appreciated! Anasuyas (talk) 03:08, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Adding more context - I've just been sent the permissions email that the photographer sent OTRS. It looks in order. What might you suggest now? Anasuyas (talk) 03:14, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Picture copyright

Hello,

The other day I uploaded (JFB-Profile4.jpg) a picture of the mathematician Jeffrey Brock, which got deleted because of copyright issues. I agree with that decision. Since then, the author of the picture (Jeffrey Brock) has added a line to the website where that picture is located (https://www.math.brown.edu/~brock/) declaring that he's the author, and included another line (visible when hovering over the picture) declaring that the picture may be used.

However, the file was still deleted (by you, I'm told? I'm not too sure, as I'm fairly new at this.) Could you advice, and if my claim is sound, restore the file?

Regards, --Janedbdp (talk) 13:22, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Re-uploads are not allowed, all new uploads by newish users are compared with all the deleted files and a table of unauthorised re-uploads generated. That's where I saw File:Jeff Brock.jpg listed. I see you have asked for undeletion already - I've added a comment. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:47, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks --Janedbdp (talk) 19:32, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Uploading files to Flickr, AFTER they ...

Hello, "I" ask for speedydelete for this image (and the wrong uploaded too big "version")! After I've seen that it will works via Flickr. I'm the owner of this photo. The photograph (father/creator of the photo) has given it to me with all rights. After uploading the first one with wrong or missing copyrights (could not remember yet, it's my first experience her on WCOMMONS) - I realized that I can use Flickr images because the photographer have a Flickr account and it would be a nice way to say "thank you" to him. I ask the photographer, if he want upload a B/W version (in his Flickr album you can see the same but in color photo of Kim Okura). So he did. And so I did. I uploaded it here again - and ask for the speedydelete.

So, what can I do now? Could you help me, please!!! Or should/must I follow the "Commons:Wiederherstellungswünsche" Br --Kamillenteefee (talk) 04:44, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

@Kamillenteefee: Sadly, we have a lot of people trying to massage their uploads via Flickr, so we are always very cautious - just see User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors for how many bad Flickr accounts we know about! If you can give me a link to the colour photo on that Flickr account, and if that has a reasonable upload date, we can easily sort it out. The other option is to go via COM:CONSENTRonhjones  (Talk) 20:15, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Deleted file

I added a file last night that had been previously deleted because it should not have been deleted. The person deleting it did not believe it was my own work (which it is) and should have left it where it was. Thanks. Waynems (talk) 23:02, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

@Waynems: You are only allowed to upload once, after that you have to use Commons:Undeletion requests to get it undeleted - the original reason for deletion was 07:03, 12 February 2018 Thuresson (A) deleted page File:Rangerette com Logo.png (Copyright violation, found elsewhere on the web and unlikely to be own work: Uploader informed about OTRS). If an image is already on the internet when you upload it here, then it's a long process to get it validated. Go to COM:CONSENT to validate your ownership, and they will undelete when the permission has been validated - NB: It can take a month or two, they are always busy. Delete of the File ThomasGilbert.jpg and Nicolas pitz.jpg

Hello Ronhjones, the two photos are mine and do not constitute a copyright infringement. I give them to the community. They are used by publisher sites for free. I also have the permision of artists to post them here. best regards, --Ninimism2 (talk) 21:41, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

@Ninimism2: If images are published elsewhere before uploading here, then you have to prove they are not illegal copies. File ThomasGilbert.jpg is at http://editions-sarbacane.com/thomas-gilbert/ with an upload date of 21 June 2016, 01:24:04. File:Nicolas pitz.jpg is at http://www.editions-ruedesevres.fr/nicolas-pitz with an upload date of 16 March 2018, 10:31:04. You need to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. Once they have validated that you are the copyright holder, they will undelete the images. Note the current backlog is 51 days. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:54, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

File:Who Let the Dogs Out and About - CBBC Roadshow.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for informing me that the picture was not identified correctly. I am rather new with Wikimedia, so please let me know if the identification of the Photo is correct now. --Ktiv (talk) 14:44, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

@Ktiv: It's a derivative photo of a 3D object made by someone else, therefore you need two licenses, one for your photo of the object (done) and one for the actual object - I suspect in this case (but don't know), it's very old so it possibly needs a {{PD-old-100-1923}}. A full list of possible licenses is at Commons:Copyright tagsRonhjones  (Talk) 15:18, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
I've added that template for you to show how to format - if I've picked the wrong one, then change it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:21, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much. May you have a look at my other uploads, whether I have identified them in the proper way? Most are details of a 3D city model, I do not know whether this is classified as building, or something else?--Ktiv (talk) 17:53, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
@Ktiv: Buildings aren't usually a problem, unless they are rather new, and then only in a few countries does that matter. See Commons:Freedom of panorama for country details. You are fine with those uploads. Sculptures are more tricky, as it's not easy to determine the age (it could be new and made to look old!) Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:01, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your assistance. --Ktiv (talk) 18:03, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Emblems of Chinese political parties

Hi, I re-uploaded a series of emblems of Chinese political parties and identified the sources but got them deleted again (most of which comes from existing jpg files on wikipedia which I believe means that they are in compliance with copyright requirements.) I further wonder what copyright standards are applied for these emblems, as I find other parties' emblems, as well as national flags have been uploaded to commons。

-参议长 (talk) 00:22, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

@参议长 and 参议长: They were deleted as re-uploads - you can only upload once. If deleted, you need to go to Commons:Undeletion requests to get them undeleted, please do not re-upload - they get automagically flagged as re-uploads. I note that they were originally deleted as "non-trivial logos". I don't see anything to change that view. I had a quick look at one link you posted (http://cppcc.china.com.cn/2017-11/23/content_41933327.htm) and there was "版权所有 中国互联网新闻中心" at the bottom (Google says that is "Copyright China Internet News Center")- which would suggest not suitable.Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:13, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

If its possible please restore that file. Uploader of that file is Liis Lemsalu herself. As I understand she's don't know all rules of Wikimedia Commons, but I hope that she has permission from photographer also and will send it to OTRS too. Ahsoous (talk) 21:29, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

@Ahsoous: You can go to Commons:Undeletion requests, but this file has already been uploaded three times (that's two times more than is allowed) - File:Liis Lemsalu "Eesti Muusikaauhinnad 2018 gaala".jpg, before that File:Liis lemsalu EMA 2018 saku suurhall.jpg, and before that File:Wxc2044g.uc4.jpg. If she wishes to use COM:CONSENT, then they will undelete the image once they have validated the permission. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:55, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
And You deleted file not after a week which was given to fix problems, but after few hours. It's not good policy. Ahsoous (talk) 09:12, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
@Ahsoous: No - The file (File:Wxc2044g.uc4.jpg) was uploaded 16:07, 29 January 2018, tagged 16:11, 29 January 2018 by user:Túrelio - with the apporpite notice on the user's talk page, and then deleted 16:57, 6 February 2018. Andrew Jelks picture

I do apologize for taking that picture and claiming it to be my own, let me explain why I did it, I did it because Wikipedia wouldn’t allow me to click this isn’t my own work for some reason is was blurred out and wouldn’t let me click on it, i do understand that it is a copyright problem and it won’t happen again, as I did post on the viloation. I am sorry that it happened and I appreciate that you reported it, however I was in the mix of taking it down but I was beaten to the punch, I hope I don’t get blocked for it as I am very sorry and I won’t do it again. sketch deletion

Hello Ronhjones one of my uploaded sketches was deleted twice on the ground of copyrights without informing me about the alternative, how to display an image of the neighborhood with the surrounding area? my image was a naked imagery of google maps, it was I who defined boundaries and put labels. I could have taken the same image from Wikimapia but unfortunately Wikimapia is full of scratches. I have seen much bigger images displayed on Wikipedia undeleted. I think that warning needs to be tutorial rather than threatening. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abu aamir (talk • contribs) 20:21, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

@Abu aamir: They are standard messages as generated by the system when there is a copyright issue flagged. Google Map's License is not compatible with Commons. OpenStreetMap is a normal alternative. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:40, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: thank you Ronhjones very much, I will use OpenStreetMap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abu aamir (talk • contribs) 07:29, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I got permission from the creator to use this screen shot of his mesh. I forwarded our email exchange to permissions-commons, and submitted an undelete request. This is new since the picture was deleted the first time. Please reconsider this deletion. Stop Deleting Bethany Whitmore Headshot

This photo was taken by Sally Flegg - and paid for by me, Bethany Whitmore for the purpose of using it as a published headshot. Sally Flegg has given me, Bethany Whitmore, permission to use this file on Wiki Please stop deleting this file, as permission to use it has been granted by Sally Flegg. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jossieboo (talk • contribs) 10:50, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

@Jossieboo: The copyright holder MUST go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. That will either by Sally Flag (as the original copyright holder), or yourself provided a full written copyright transfer has been signed by Sally Flag. Once OTRS have validated the permission, they will undelete. There is no other way of getting the image on commons - all new uploads are checked against deleted images, no matter what user name or file name. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:23, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Good day Ronhjones

I have the bottle in the picture at home. However as I belief in ethical and legal behavior, if it is a violation of a copyright, then I'm more than happy to remove it. I don't know how to delete the image. I have removed it from the page, so it no longer show there. You may delete the image file

Regards

User:Barry Ne

@Barry Ne: Someone else has deleted it. There was just too much "picture" component in the label to be COM:DM. The text is fine but the large tree/bird/buckets makes it copyrightable. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:48, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

File:Mandy Jones AM 2018.jpg.

Hi,

Please could you help me. The photograph has been taken from here: http://www.assembly.wales/en/memhome/Pages/MemberProfile.aspx?mid=5103 (as have the photos of all other AMs) please could you help me mark the correct set of permissions on Wikipedia? Thanks Paulharding150 (talk) 08:09, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

@Paulharding150: It's not clear on that site, http://www.assembly.wales/en/help/Pages/terms.aspx in the "Copyright statement", is not really clear enough for our use (in my opinion) - the "This is subject to the material being reproduced accurately" would suggest "No derivatives". which would rule it out. I would suggest ask at COM:VPC and get more opinions, it a bit of a grey area, as it stands. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:44, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Well, photos of every other Assembly Member will fall under your interpretation of the rules. Paulharding150 (talk) 20:00, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

@Paulharding150: I've not seen any others, so you need to get a firm ruling or it could keep happening. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:31, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Here are the other Assembly Members - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Members_of_the_5th_National_Assembly_for_Wales - all of whom have photos taken from the same website, with the same licence/agreement. Please don't delete those either. Paulharding150 (talk) 10:54, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Paulharding150: I looked a random dozen or so, everyone I looked at, was not taken from the Wales web site, but what appears to be an Official Flickr site, with the correct CC license. Maybe Mandy Jones is also there? Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:57, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: I have changed the permission and CC licence - I hope that meets with your approval — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulharding150 (talk • contribs) 08:51, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Can you help me to add this and restore original photo? Thanks {{PD-Italy}} {{PD-1996}}. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SicilianCulturalHeritage (talk • contribs) 17:27, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

@SicilianCulturalHeritage: Ideally you should ask the deleting admin (Jcb) - see File:Nunziata monumento.jpg. It's more complicated by the fact that the left photograph is itself also a derivative - it states quite clearly the sculptor's name of Moschetti. So although the photo is 1930, and Italy only adds 20 years for simple photos. For the sculpture, Italy will add the full 70 years. If Moschetti died after 1925, then it gets URAA renewal. So ideally we need Moschetti death date, and if over 1925, then we need the date of the sculpture, so we can add 95 years to find the end of copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:13, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Excuse me for bad English. This Monument was not a common sculpture....it's a WW1 Monument, so is free of any rights on him, on photos, on public use. It's a particular case. Can you help to solve the question? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SicilianCulturalHeritage (talk • contribs) 18:24, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

@SicilianCulturalHeritage: Your English is better than my Italian. Sculptures in public places in Italy are not copyright free - see Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#Italy, so for 70 years after Moschetti death, it was in copyright, so we do need Moschetti's death date. It is rather complex, You might want to pose the question at COM:VPC - and get more input from other users. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:06, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Dear Ronhjones trust me, I'm a graduate in Cultural Heritage of my country. You can see the law here http://www.interlex.it/testi/l41_633.htm#70 . Articolo 70. The only limit of Italian law is the low resolution of image (on internet) and prohibition of commercial use. Only didactic or scientific purpose. What I can do to restore my upload? I don't know. Thanks for answer. SicilianCulturalHeritage (talk) 13:10, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
@SicilianCulturalHeritage: All images here are free for commercial use - that's where I see the problem. But do try COM:VPC, there are other editors with better specific knowledge of Italy's copyright. Your only other option is a fair-use image - but what you can upload as non-free is very specific to each local Wikipedia (and has to be uploaded there - if allowed) - see it:Wikipedia:File_non_liberi Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:39, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Confused

Hi, I am confused regarding this. I realise you put a note on the talk page but the comment in the discussion you link to does not appear to accord with {{PD-India}}. We're having a lot of problems at WP:EN regarding the wording of Indian copyright here. Some of it actually seems to be contradictory, eg: see [5]. - Sitush (talk) 08:44, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

@Sitush: The image is going to be mid 1920s. To be in copyright, the publication would have to be many years later, probably unlikely. {{Copyvio}} is a speedy deletion and only for a clear unambiguous copyright problems - you might want to consider a normal deletion process and thus get a consensus. Speedy gets you one admin, and we'll all have different views. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:10, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I can't be bothered with all this legal stuff, especially if people here don't have a consistent view either! This place is a nightmare. - Sitush (talk) 05:07, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
File:TorreLittoria2012.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Lucy Newman Images

Hi,

It wasn't the same images that was delete. The mistake that happened was that I did not use a different names to save the images on my PC so the old image keeps replacing the new ones.

I have asked the photographers to send a message to permissions-en@wikipedia.org what then is the next step after this? Eyitayo Alimi (talk) 09:49, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

@Eyitayo Alimi: The system does not make a mistake. All new uploads check against all deleted images - File:Lucy Newman.jpg matches the first upload of File:Dr Lucy Newman.jpg, which was properly deleted at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Eyitayo Alimi. You are only allowed to upload a file once. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:42, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: When i say 'System' i am referring to my personal computer and not wikicommons.
@Eyitayo Alimi: Once the OTRS team approve the permission from the photographer, then they will undelete the image. Current backlog queue length can be seen at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:48, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Edit makes a nonsense?

Hi, this edit makes a nonsense of both the image description and its name. Chandra Shekar is on the left in the original image but completely cropped out of the new version ... and the person shown alone in the new version is, as far as I can tell, pretty much a nobody.

BTW, I've never found a source calling him "Chandra Shekhar Singh", and he was prime minister of India so I'd imagine it would not be hard to find. That creates an issue with Category:Chandra Shekhar Singh.

Is it easy to resolve these issues? - Sitush (talk) 04:37, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

@Sitush: Oh, yes. Overwriting is not allowed, except for very minor changes. Crops like that must be a new page. Reverted and left the do not overwrite message at User_talk:Asmithca Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:48, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Ronhjones. You uploaded the logo and assigned it with OTRS-ticket and PD-textlogo license. Obviously this is not a textlogo and by British rules it is complex logo. I am not OTRS-member and cannot see the ticket. What kind of license the OTRS-ticket specifies? Maybe the logo should be nominated for deletion as copyright violation? Taivo (talk) 12:13, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

@Taivo: The ticket wasn't really about the logo - that was just a closing "extra" - "could someone put the new logo on commons" to a much longer request about the page name (which I did not do, the ticket timed out on the original agent). I can confirm it came from the Academy. Since it was rather simple, I put it down as textlogo (I'm in UK) - to me it's 5 circles, 5 V's , and 5 blobs. If the consensus is that it is not textlogo, I can always go back to the poster. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:12, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Last time these images were deleted because I forgot to add the proper licence. This time I uploaded them and added the proper licences, so why were they deleted again? Popolzani (talk) 22:10, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

@Popolzani:
  1. You can only upload once, after that you have to go to Commons:Undeletion requests, re-uploads are not allowed
  2. You are still using the "source={{Own}}", I don't think you personally took the picture!
Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:34, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
For File:Mitse Solakov.png I very clearly showed the source, it was cropped from another licenced photo on Wikipedia.
As for File:Stefan Skenderov.png, this is an original photo I personally own.

Popolzani (talk) 22:40, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

@Popolzani: You might own it, but you did not take it. Copyright goes to the photographer, not always the picture ownerRonhjones  (Talk) 22:50, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
The photographer is unknown and the photo was taken more than 100 years ago. Am I using a wrong licence?
What about the other photo that is sourced, if there is no issue than please un-delete it Popolzani (talk) 23:03, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
@Popolzani: I did not delete the originals. You need to go to Commons:Undeletion requests so the original deletion requesters can review the changes. There's an unwritten rule (may come to be a firm one) that 130years is needed for for unknown photographers, as such now it's up to the community to decide. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:27, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
I posted at Commons:Undeletion requests yesterday, and no one is replying :( Popolzani (talk) 16:23, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
@Popolzani: Saying "It should not have been deleted again" - is so very wrong, and not going to win you any friends - we do not allow re-uploads, re-uploads are normally deleted - which is why we have bot to find them!. Anyway, it was not just for a forgotten license - you should refer to Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Popolzani and explain what changes you want to make. Please restore file

Hello,

You just deleted the two images from en:WP: Nextdoor and from Wikimedia Commons for "File previously deleted." However, the file was previously deleted because the editor did not believe the screenshots had the permission of the copyright holder. The files were re-uploaded today by the copyright holder, with the e-mail below sent from the company e-mail address, and the messages below left in Discussion. If you keep deleting these without notification, you can't check that they are valid.

Hello, Thanks for the input! The pictures are from the archives of Doundoulakis in the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago. The newspaper articles of William Gordon are from the NY Herald Tribune, that stopped printing and closed in 1966. This is a photo from http://www.arturcimirro.com.br/en_fotos.htm and there is a permission to use it anywhere. Would you kindly "remove your delection" because it is quite annoying trying to re-upload and receive automatic messages saying that I must to check something that was not well checked by others. thanks. Oberman

@Oberman:
  1. You did not specify that web site on the image page - we are not mind readers.
  2. You claimed "own work", which clearly it is not.
  3. Also that makes it an invalid license as it's not "self" and it's not cc-by-sa-4.0
  4. The image was deleted some time ago - hence why it got flagged, so undeletion should go to the original deletion admin (but he's not active so go to Commons:Undeletion requests), as re-uploads are not allowed, and request undeletion for File:Artur-cimirro.jpg
  5. It's possible that web page does not satisfy the original deletion concerns - Commons:Deletion requests/File:Artur-cimirro.jpg - who took the picture?
  6. Finally the website states "The text of this website is available..." Nowhere does it mention images. The correct terminology of a cc-by-sa-3.0 is "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License." - therefore the web page is not useable.
Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:30, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello Ronhjones, My mistake not mentioning the webpage earlier and the wrong licence. How about now (with the right licence probably)? http://www.arturcimirro.com.br/en_fotos.htm Yes, I'm the guy in the photo and my wife takes the picture (it is in Australia) so it is "self" made like. So, how can I remove the "flag"? I need do it alone or can you help me with this? I'm far from a wiki expert. About how images of bugreiros

Good afternoon, first of all I'm sorry for posting the images again, I had not seen the previous warnings, I apologize also for the images of Vaquita, that yes with probable copyright. However, the images of bugreiros are of public domain, since the author is not known, nor the date of the photographs, except of the Amerindio Nelo (my grandfather owns the original photograph of the Amerindian Nelo, in the back of the image the date of 1910) even if he knew it, would probably already be in public domain, because the images are old, Martin Bugreiro died in 1936, and the photos were obviously made before that date. I ask you to reconsider, or give me information on how I can solve this, I am new to wikipedia and I still do not know everything Sorry for my bad English too, google translate haha - Petterson Pereira da Silva — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petterson Pereira da Silva (talk • contribs) 18:23, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

@Petterson Pereira da Silva: It is always difficult with an unknown author. If we assume 1910 - and a photographer of, say, 30 years old. Then we can guess that he dies around 1960, and copyright runs out 2031 - all guesses! Thus it tends to be an unwritten rule to add 130 years to an image date to ensure public domain, when we cannot find the photographer. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:38, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi! In Brazil, pursuant to Law No. 9,610 of February 19, 1998, Article 45: "In addition to the works in respect of which the term of protection of the patrimonial rights has elapsed, they belong to the public domain:

I - those of deceased authors who have not left successors;

II - those of unknown author, except for the legal protection of ethnic and traditional knowledge."

In addition, the life expectancy in Brazil in 1960 was 54.2 years, imagine before. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petterson Pereira da Silva (talk • contribs) 22:01, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Ideally you need to contact the first deleting admin user:Mattbuck - to address the reasons given on the deletion log namely "Copyright violation, found elsewhere on the web and unlikely to be own work". I only deleted as a re-upload. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:05, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
The copyright term for photographs in Brazil is actually not bound to the photographer's lifetime but it is 70 years from first publication. See also {{PD-Brazil-URAA}} and {{PD-Brazil-media}}. De728631 (talk) 22:09, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petterson Pereira da Silva (talk • contribs) 22:19, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Petterson Pereira da Silva, so we're saying 1910 photograph, presumably published at the same time, making them public domain in Brazil. Assuming they're also public domain in the USA then there should be no issues. Just please make sure you add a public domain licence tag, and make clear why they're public domain. -mattbuck (Talk) 08:00, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! Should I add the photos again? How do you put this tag? Help -Petterson Pereira da Silva (talk) 13:58, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Petterson Pereira da Silva...
All undeleted and PD tag added properly. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:02, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Sorry for the inconvenience -Petterson Pereira da Silva (talk) 19:57, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones. You just deleted an image that I got the source author to re-issue and get the copyright changed to cc-by-sa. It is on the source link web-page of the image (which I have logged with the image). please re-instate the image. I went to great trouble to get this fixed (and with the authors consent). thanks Britishfinance (talk) 18:18, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

@Britishfinance: You are only allowed to upload once, then you have to go to Commons:Undeletion requests. Re-uploads are found by a bot, as they are a common source of vandalism. I will restore it this time. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:38, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
thank you so much for that Ronhjones! and sorry for the inconvenience. thanks Britishfinance (talk) 18:40, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

There are several fun ways you can help us to make the impact of Wiki Loves Africa stronger:

  • Add more categories to your images so that people will find them to use them in articles ... you can see how to do this here: Quick Guide to Categories on Commons
  • Improve the images description to make them easier to understand and reuse.
  • If there is no article that reflects the subject of your images, then start an article about that subject. If you are a new editor, you can see how to do that here: Creating your first article
  • Add more images - you can add more images or media that reflect interesting and encyclopedic subjects in your immediate community.
  • Use the images produced during the contest. Here is a short link to the best ones : c:Category:Best images from Wiki Loves Africa 2017

Regarding your "Derivative Works" Comment

I noticed that you marked this image on my Wikipedia user page as a "derivative work." I wasn't aware of what that was, so I read through the Wikipedia article for it. Yet I don't see how the piece could be considered a "derivative work," so I'd appreciate it if you could clarify. Thanks. --LawrenceScafuri (talk) 23:19, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

@LawrenceScafuri: It looks like the image from a book cover File:Maddy Communism Book.jpg - unless you were the artist, it's a derivative image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:22, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Alright; so the Valentines' Comrade Maddy picture was mistakenly marked as a derivative work? And also, how would I go about editing the information on the Communism Book image (crediting the original photographer) in order to have it not go against Wikipedia's copyright rules? (If that's at all possible) --LawrenceScafuri (talk) 23:38, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@LawrenceScafuri: The copyright holder needs to donate the copyright at COM:CONSENT. It's never easy using other images. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:40, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Ah, okay. Just to clarify, the Valentines' Comrade Maddy picture was mistakenly marked as a derivative work? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LawrenceScafuri (talk • contribs) 23:48, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@LawrenceScafuri: No. The image is a derivative of the book cover, as it's been altered. If it were to stay it would (like most derivative works) needs two licenses - one for the original image by the artist, and one for the work done (by yourself) to make the changed image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:58, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: I understand that the Book Cover image is a derivative work, but you also marked my Valentines' Comrade Maddy image as a derivative work. Was flagging the Valentines' image a "derivative work" just a mistake? --LawrenceScafuri (talk) 00:06, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@LawrenceScafuri: No. Taking a simple photo of a book cover is not normally classed as a derivative here - there is not enough work done to gain any copyright for the photographer, so uploading a book cover will get deleted as a simple copyright violation. Changing the colours of the image is definitely work done to the original image and is therefore a derivative and gains copyright (on top of the existing copyright of the image). Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:24, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Yes; I understand that. But you keep on referring to the book cover picture. You also flagged another picture (my Valentines' Maddy comrade picture) as being a "derivative work." That's the image I was asking about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LawrenceScafuri (talk • contribs) 00:30, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@LawrenceScafuri: File:Maddy Communism Book.jpg is an image of a book cover and is a copyright violation. File:Valentine's Comrade Maddy.png is a derivative of the book cover. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:33, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Alright then. Thanks for bearing with me. However, File:Valentine's Comrade Maddy.png was my own work. I photoshopped that work on the book cover image. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LawrenceScafuri (talk • contribs) 00:38, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@LawrenceScafuri: Agreed. Photoshopping an existing image, makes the new image a derivative of the original. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:52, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: So the Valentine's Comrade Maddy image is a derivative? --LawrenceScafuri (talk) 00:57, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
{{ping|LawrenceScafuri} Of course - File:Valentine's Comrade Maddy.png was derived from File:Maddy Communism Book.jpg Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:17, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
