Hi Romaine, do you want this image still deleted? I am asking because it was in an irregular state, deleted, but page still visible. --Túrelio (talk) 18:33, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Túrelio, During uploading something strange happened in MediaWiki. I attempted several things but nothing was successful. Looking at the file now the thumbnail is still empty in the file page and category. At the time I uploaded this file a second time as File:Noorbeek-wegkruis Brikkenstraat-Voetpad van Noorbeek naar Bergenhuizen (7).jpg and that went well. So the 5 of this series can stay deleted. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 17:02, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

errors due to deleted wikidata pages which were in use[edit]

Hi, It looks like all the files in the Category:Pages with script errors have some errors due to depict statements listing Wikidata items added in 2019 by User:Multichill which items were then deleted by you in 2020. For example d:Q17389010, d:Q17614744 or d:Q17439573. I can not see the deleted items and explanation of deletion ("(rm = 404) ") is a bit criptic. Can you either undelete the items or fix depicts for those files? Jarekt (talk) 02:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jarekt, Thank you for letting me know. I fixed it or undeleted depending on the situation. Romaine (talk) 03:55, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks --Jarekt (talk) 03:57, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What the heck? None of these items should have been deleted. These are all Rijksmonumenten. Wikidata is not Wikipedia! The designation might change or get a different number, that doesn't mean you should delete them. Please undelete them all. Multichill (talk) 22:24, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The change of the WLE Czechia[edit]

Hi,

I noticed that you renamed the name of main page name on WLE/participating countries 2023 from Wiki Loves Earth Czechia 2023 to Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in the Czech Republic and created a category with the same name. Since Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in the Czech Republic is a very long title, we would prefer to use Wiki Loves Earth Czechia 2023. I This title is quite long, but from a PR point of view, a 5 word title is better than 8. Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (talk) 19:21, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard Sekerak (WMCZ), Sorry for the delay in the past days. I don't mind using the word Czechia. However all country pages have a title like Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in <country>, which can be Czechia. It is not a requirement, but a recommendation.
I noticed you posed on another talk page the message below, let's move the discussion to this page. Romaine (talk) 04:31, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WLE BANNER QUESTION[edit]

Hi @Romaine I have a question about WLE banner.

I've created a request for a banner, including a Czech design, on the Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023/CentralNotice.

The Czech WLE round will take place from May 1 to 31, 2023 (I filled this information on the page Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023/Participating countries). Will the banner that I've prepared be displayed on Czech Wiki projects during this period?

I have two additional questions:

1) In the period from May 1 to May 15, we already have from an earlier period a request for a banner on CentralNotice/Calendar for Czech photography projects. Is it appropriate to delete this banner to avoid a collision with the WLE banner?

2). In the period from May 15, a Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising banner is to be displayed on the Czech Wikipedia. Can it be set so that the Czech WLE banner is displayed only from May 1 to May 15, or which banner will be displayed in the event of a collision of several banners?

Regards, Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (overleg) 26 apr 2023 19:24 (CEST)

Hi Richard Sekerak (WMCZ),
0. The design posted on the CentralNotice has one major problem so far it seems now: with small screens the banner reacts weird/looks ugly (or maybe this is just the example on the CentralNotice page?).
1. For the international team I create the banners of Wiki Loves Earth. In the calendar I read We Photograph Czechia 2023 / Wiki Loves Earth Czechia 2023 -> Is this intended to be the banner as posted on Commons:Wiki Loves Earth_2023/CentralNotice#Czech_design? If yes, then it is a duplicate. The CentralNotice system can't select a certain wiki to be shown on, but the WLE banner for a certain country is commonly selected to be only shown in Czechia, which practically will result in roughly the same. Alternatively the Czech community can decide to use a SiteNotice on the Czech Wikipedia instead of the CentralNotice (I then need to know).
2. From the past we have learned that most photos get uploaded later in the contest period. If there is no banner in the second half of the month, this leads to significant less photos. My advice would be to move or WLE or the fundraising. Another possibility is to extend the WLE contest with a month. Finally there is the option that the fundraising banner get a high priority, and the WLE banner normal priority. This would mean that the fundraising banner would be shown first, WLE banner second. Ideally we would recommend to avoid two banners at the same time. Romaine (talk) 04:31, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Romaine, thank you for answering.
We would prefer using Czechia since is shorter and easier to use.
1) I've just checked the banner on my phone and it looks fine (the size is dynamic). Anyways, 90 % of visitors to our other contest are using computers, so it's less important.
2) The banner We Photograph Czechia 2023 / Wiki Loves Earth Czechia 2023 was intended to be a different banner but then we joined WLE and we decided to use WLE banner. So we don't need two banners at the same time. WLE banner is sufficient. Should I delete the request on CentralNotice/Calendar?
3) We can't move the fundraising banner, since it is banner of Wikimedia foundation (international). We don't even have the option to extend the competition, as another project will be running in June. It would be great if WLE Czechia could be displayed for the entire duration of the competition from May 1st to May 31st (with normal priority since May 15th and the fundraising banner with high priority). Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (talk) 12:40, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Richard Sekerak (WMCZ), In the past evening I tried to implement the banner. I had to conclude that when a screen is smaller, the text of the banner disappears outside the screen, which is a serious problem. I have tried to find a solution, but nothing I could think of works with the tests I did. Later today I will try to search for other solutions. If you have any ideas how to fix the issue, please let me know. Romaine (talk) 02:49, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Romaine. The issue of the banner not displaying properly on some devices (it works on mine) would probably require more time than I have. Since the banner was only supposed to be displayed for 15 days, each day that it is not displayed represents a 6.5% loss of that time, which is a lot. Today is the second day and still no banner, we have already lost almost 15% of the total display time.
If you claim that my original banner design cannot be used, I prepared a "Czech design 2" banner on the Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023/CentralNotice, which is significantly less attractive, but I suppose there will be no problem with it. Please publish it as soon as possible, as the success of the competition depends on it. Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (talk) 12:41, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Richard Sekerak (WMCZ), Thank you for thinking with me. The second design is more workable. Also this one has some concerns, but those are less critical. I implemented the banner. There is an alternative idea possible in both design and concerning the fundraising banner. You can also use the Sitenotice on the Czech Wikipedia. You may then also use design 1 and with the fundraising banner it is not problematic.
I am aware that showing the banner is needed to have a successful contest. The majority of the photos is uploaded in the last week, the least amount of photos in the first three days.
For inspiration: In Germany there is a completely different banner design. Romaine (talk) 13:36, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Romaine Thank you for the quick reply. Based on your recommendation, I created a third version of the design based on the German pattern. If this design (====czech design 3====) is correct, could it replace the current version (====czech design 2====) that is displayed? Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (talk) 16:19, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Richard Sekerak (WMCZ): Sorry for the delay, past days I was ill. I just implemented the third version. Romaine (talk) 14:06, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Romaine. I'm glad we managed to find a version that displays well and is aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Thanks for the tip on the German banner. Richard Sekerak (WMCZ) (talk) 17:16, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Äntligen maj: Wiki Loves Earth 2023![edit]

Förra årets vinnarbild i Wiki Loves Earth!

Hej,
(For information in English, see Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Sweden or other participating countries.)

/Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 12:46, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WLE Wales - take care pls[edit]

Your edit here took off Wales from the 2022 results chart. We were 2nd that year. I take it that your error wasn't malicious in any way.

The key in the prefixes table was changed by you from gb-wal to gb-wls, but the keys in the events tables (eg wl["earth"][2021]) were not updated accordingly. Please do so asap, and ensure that the previous year 2021 and the current year are also in tune. For the sake of consistency, let's use the same ISO code throughout: gb-wls, so that the events are joined to the names. Thanks. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 05:41, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've now reverted your edit. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 14:18, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Llywelyn2000, I tried to solve another problem, sadly causing a problem with it. And yes indeed, according to w:ISO 3166-2:GB it should be gb-wls. I think it should work now, but if you encounter any issues, please let me know! Greetings - Romaine (talk) 14:04, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help[edit]

Hi Romaine, hope you're fine // we need urgent help to create a campaign for this

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Maghreb_Environment_2023

thanks in advance Dezedien (talk) 09:40, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dezedien, I suspect you want an upload campaign. I can create one, but before I can do that I need two templates.
Commonly a template is shown above the campaign, like for WLE in Algeria Template:Upload campaign header wle-dz. Yours would then be Template:Upload campaign header Wiki Maghreb Environment.
Second you probably want images uploaded to be tagged with a template on the file pages. For Wiki Loves Earth that is Template:Wiki Loves Earth 2023. You can think of a template like Template:Wiki Maghreb Environment 2023.
Can you create the templates? Romaine (talk) 18:17, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Romaine thanks dear romaine for the high level advice, i never got lost with you, so i created the pages you requested for the campaign, would you like to check it out? Dezedien (talk) 20:49, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dezedien, The upload campaign has been created (upload link) and I implemented the upload links on the project pages. Romaine (talk) 21:21, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All is ok great thanks Dezedien (talk) 21:34, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CentralNotice for WLE-2023 in Kazakhstan[edit]

Good day! I've added design and texts for campaign, but 2 days into it and seems CentralNotie isn't working. Can you help with it? Thanks in advance. Красный wanna talk? 13:26, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Special nomination in Ukraine's upload campaign[edit]

Hi Romaine! I've added Ukrainian localization to Commons talk:Wiki Loves Earth 2023/Upload campaigns. Could you update our upload campaign? And also remind me how I can do it myself – we'll need to get the link changed once we translate the special nomination page into Ukrainian. Thanks! AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 06:17, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AntonProtsiuk (WMUA), I have updated the text in MediaWiki:Mwe-upwiz-campaigns-wle-nomination-hre/uk. If I am not mistaken, the link already links to the translated page... Romaine (talk) 09:22, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Yes, we had translated the page more quickly than I expected so I'd already changed the link. AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (talk) 09:55, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with the German WLM-Upload-Campaign[edit]

Hi Romaine, @Mesha456: told me, that you can help solving a small problem with the German WLM-Upload-Campaign. I guess we talked about it some years ago.

In most cases the campaign works well.

The campaign has the feature to create the cat "Category:Cultural heritage monument in municipality XY". If the uploader knows the municipality, he can type in the municipality in an input box. The campaign turns this into the needed string. This works well. The campaign put this catstring into the information-template. If the uploader adds via the campaign another cat, everything is fine. But if he doesn't add another cat, the uploaded file ist automatically shown as "uncategorized" in the "Category:Media needing categories" although there is an cat. While uploading the uploader gets the warning, that he hasn't set a category.

I uploaded this file File:Zillierbach Wernigerode 2023-06-24.jpg some moments ago, the problem still occurs - there is a valid cat Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wernigerode but the Template:Uncategorized is set.

The problem occurs only in some cases, but it's annoying. Can you solve the problem? Greetings from Germany Z thomas 05:46, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Z thomas, I think the cause is that the category part of the campaign needs to produce a content category on the file page, otherwise indeed it is said to be uncategorized. Not sure how this can be fixed in German upload campaign as this function is very needed elsewhere.
But we might need to go back some steps in the proces. Why is it needed for the uploader to typ in the municipality? Nowhere this is done! In WLM it is important that the uploaded files have a monument identifier. To easy add this by uploaders, uploaders commonly go to the monument list of their area (alternatively an interactive map), there they click on the upload button in the monument list, which results in that the description field, the monument identifier, and the category field are already filled in. So for example, they go to de:Liste der Kulturdenkmale in Wernigerode. There the upload button should link to the upload campaign with in the link the information (description/ID/category) so the upload wizard can be pre-filled. For that we commonly use de:Vorlage:UploadCampaignLink. If that route is followed, this whole problem you describe does not occur and it is a lot easier for participants. Romaine (talk) 17:46, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Romaine, thanks for your answer
typing the municipality is a fallback option if the uploader don't know anything about cats.
you're right, it would be better to go back in the process. and I like the idea of using de:Vorlage:UploadCampaignLink. but maybe we have some problems, maybe you can help solving them
  • Regarding to cultural heritage monuments Germany consists of 16 different countries (the federal states). In some states we don't have lists with IDs. In some states we even don't have lists :-) that's why I think we need the 16 upload-campaigns.
  • in wikipedia every federal state uses a different template for creating the lists or even pure wikisyntax (of course the users do, not the federal states :-) )
  • In some states the monuments are almost at 100 % in wikidata, in some they aren't at wikidata.
I tryed to put the de:Vorlage:UploadCampaignLink into de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Sachsen-Anhalt Tabellenzeile (the upload-campaign für Saxony-Anhalt) but I failed :-) I took inspiration at de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Köln Tabellenzeile but I guess the problem is, that the Köln-Template is just for one municipality and the Sachsen-Anhalt-Template is for one federal state with lots of municipalities.
I hope I didn't confuse too much :-) viele grüße Z thomas 19:41, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Z thomas, I am aware of the German situation for more than 10 years. From the perspective of monuments, Germany is not one country, but 16 countries. So each for Bundesland it needs to be seen what needs to be done. I think the following needs to be done by the German WLM team:
  • I think at this moment it is not fully clear what the situation is where (but maybe some parts already have been done). What you will need is:
    • Knowing which lists are missing. (And if possible getting them created.)
    • Make an inventory which lists are templated and which are in table wiki syntax. (The ones in table wiki syntax need to be converted to templated lists, maybe I can help with that.)
    • Make an inventory of which lists don't have identifiers. (The ones without should have their official identifiers added. If the official ones are unknown or not existing, then the Wikidata Q's can be used and added to the lists (using the Wikidata parameter to avoid confusion). If the monuments don't have Wikidata items, they need to be created, but prevent duplicates from being created.)
      • Bonus: It would be good to add the Wikidata Q's everywhere, so that easy linking and identification is possible. See for example how it has been done here: w:nl:Lijst van rijksmonumenten in Kerkrade. Start first with the ones that are already on Wikidata.
    • The row templates of the lists need to get the upload link. Four parameters can be added to the upload link: identifier, name/description (ideally also automatically the municipality and Bundesland is added in the description), coordinates, and category. (I can help here, done this many times.)
Looking in Vorlage:Denkmalliste Sachsen-Anhalt Tabellenzeile, I see you copy pasted the code from Köln, that won't work. It needs to be implemented taking into account the parameters of that specific row template. I can have a look at this in the coming days, can you work on the other steps? Romaine (talk) 23:18, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Romaine, I know that you know the German situation. You did a lot for the German list! Thanks for that :-)
I try to make an inventory. @GPSLeo: du hattest doch schon mal eine Sammlung gemacht mit Wikidata für die Denkmallisten.
In some lists we even have the connection to wikidata for example de:Liste der Kulturdenkmale in Werdau :-)
Regarding to de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Sachsen-Anhalt Tabellenzeile I not only copy pasted :-P I changed some values, but you right - it was a kind of copy and pasting and not really understanding. It would be great if you can add this. Greetings Z thomas 05:27, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The list with data and identifier availability is here Commons:UploadMap. I think there is currently no good solution for the wizard problem, we would need more features in the campaigns to change the standard behavior. We should focus on making the fallback input in the campaign obsolete. GPSLeo (talk) 16:29, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Romaine, I added a Column in the table in Commons:UploadMap#More_cultural_heritage_Maps. There is the information about Template vs "pure" wikisyntax. 100 % means that all lists using the template it doesn't mean that there are lists in this federal state
Btw I tryed to add an upload in some templates. But there isn't consensus on this theme because the template expands the tables, so not all templates are shown.
i failed in saxony-anhalt :-) but success in de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Thüringen Tabellenzeile and de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Schleswig-Holstein Tabellenzeile. greetings Z thomas 09:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Z thomas & GPSLeo: Great that there is an overview en some progress is made. I am feeling a bit lost myself. I don't want to fall into a discussion in the German community. If you want me to look at something specifically or you want a template to be change, I can do so. Romaine (talk) 07:43, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Extension of WLEBR[edit]

We had to extend the contest to 13 aug, can you change the upload wizard setup, I do not remember how to do it. Thank you-- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 14:36, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rodrigo.Argenton, Can you update the page Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Brazil accordingly too? Upload wizard is active again, if the landing page has been updated the banner can be enabled too. Romaine (talk) 17:15, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Commons template for Walloon (Belgian) patrimony inventory numbers[edit]

I regularly add pictures of buildings in Wallonia to Commons and I also add the link to the Walloon patrimony inventary (Inventaire du patrimoine immobilier culturel de la Wallonie = [1]https://lampspw.wallonie.be/dgo4/site_ipic/index.php). Until now I add the complete URL as link to this inventory in Commons. I was looking for a template to only include the inventory code but I can't find any and I guess that there isn't one.

In Commons there is only the template "Template:Monument Wallonie" for classified (protected) patrimony.

Commons has "Template:Onroerend erfgoed" for Flemish not protected buildings as I would like to have for Wallonia. I checked if it is possible for me to translate that Flemish template for Wallonia but it is far to complicated for me with those inlinked templates. I saw that you were involved in the creation of the Commons template "Monument Wallonie" in the past and and I hoped that you could help.

There exists such a template for the French Wikipediaː "Modèle:Inventaire Wallonie". That template has all the required links and information.

For your informationː Wallonia has numbers for Classified and Exceptional heritage items with CLT and PEX codes and a separate inventory register with INV codes.

Is it possible for you to help of refer to another forum or person?

Regards,

Eebie Eebie (talk) 16:56, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eebie, Sorry for the delay. I may be able to help you but I do not fully understand the situation. I have no insights in the monuments system(s) in Wallonie, which makes it hard for me to do something. The general template we use in Flanders is Template:Onroerend erfgoed, used for all monuments (both protected and unprotected). If a monument is protected, we can use Template:Beschermd erfgoed in addition. What the situation in Wallonia is I don't know, but to me it seems CLT, PEX and INV monuments are all monuments. Why can't all these be linked in Template:Monument Wallonie? This template seems te be for all the monuments in Wallonia, not just the protected ones. Commonly a template is linked to a database, I don't know what the links should be. If the existing template only links to one group of monuments, we can modify the template so it can be used for all the monument types. For example that when it is INV, it links to database 1, with CLT to database 2, with PEX database 3. For this I need to know what the links are. Romaine (talk) 21:26, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Upload campaign for WLM in Uzbekistan[edit]

Good day! Can you help with campaign creation? Thank you in advance. Красный wanna talk? 10:31, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Красный, Yes, I will take care of that soon. Romaine (talk) 06:09, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Красный, Can you please translate Template:Upload campaign header wlm-uz into Uzbek? Thanks! Romaine (talk) 04:25, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Красный, I still hope you can create a translation also in Uzbek (and not only in Russian). Also you asked me to create a campaign. I can only do that when the landing page is ready, which seems to be the case largely. For participants it must be clear how to participate. Looking at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Uzbekistan/Participate I see the page is still empty... How can participants know how they can join the contest and upload photos? Please fix this before the contest starts in your country. Thanks! Romaine (talk) 06:50, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done, some translations are oncoming (we're currently wating for our Karakalpak and Uzbek translators to step in), but participation guide is ready. Sorry for that. Красный wanna talk? 15:24, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Translations in Russian are made for two purposes: first, decent number of people who live in Uzbekistan still speak Russian as native or prefer it as a primary language for an internet usage, and second, our team barely speaks English so before they translate anything to Uzbek and Karakalpak I need to translate it from English to Russian. :-) Красный wanna talk? 15:34, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments in Azerbaijan extenden till the end of October[edit]

Hello, Romaine. Due to small amount of photos Wiki Loves Monuments in Azerbaijan extenden till the end of October. Could you help to make required updates? Interfase (talk) 13:04, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Interfase, For Wiki Loves Monuments, the international team has set some rules that all the local teams need to follow. One of the rules is that a contest can only last for one month, to ensure an equal playing field for all the participants. See: Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2023/Organise#2023_Timeline. You may want to contact the international team about this. Romaine (talk) 06:18, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WLM in UAE[edit]

Hello! Please create a campaign for UAE too. Timeline: October 1-31. Thank you! Akbarali (talk)

Hi Akbarali, Yes, I have taken care of that. Looking at the landing page I am a bit surprised that it is (only) in English, as normally we send visitors to the landing page in the local language of the country. In the Wikipedia article I read that the official language is Arabic. See for example how they have done it at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Georgia, and English and Georgian one. Is there any reason why your page is only in English so far or are you going to translate it? Please let me know! Thanks! Romaine (talk) 07:18, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
