Hello Rama! Sorry to bother you with administrative stuff, but there is apparently some backlog...
I made a video upload above (and changed the mp4 format to webm per Commons rules) from a CC BY-SA 2.0 video file on Flickr [1], and also extracted a panorama from the same video file: .
As an Administrator, would it be possible for you to review the license on Flickr (Click "Attribution sharealike" under the photograph on the Flickr page [2] and it links to the license page "cc-by-sa-2.0"), and, if acceptable, replace in your own hand the {{Flickreview}} tag in my two uploads (the video and the panorama above) with the "passed review" code:

Commons - Media Sarch, new feedback round

Greetings,

I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. Hi! Do you have any additional info to the file Bowls Lamboglia 27a IMG 5121.jpg? They look Campanian B to me (althought I will agree L27ab is more typical in A) and the date should be 2-1st century BC (the Grand Congloué I is actually dated 2nd c. BC). I've also deleted the link to terra sigillata since Campanian ware and red-slip terra sigillata are two completely different things. I would love to illustrate some articles with these pictures (these are easily the best on Commons) so let me know if you have the extra caption! Source for a photo of a Bréguet 960 Vultur

I'm working on the article for this prototype and it desperately needs a photo or two. I know that you've uploaded other photos of French aircraft from the 1950s, but the original websites seem to have disappeared. So I'm wondering if you could point me in the direction of any copyright-free photo collections as a Google image search is drowning me in ones that appear to still be in copyright. I've found some scanned aeronautical journals on Gallica with poor-quality photos that I might be able to use, but I'm not sure if the Gallica PD tag overrides the US one much like Crown Copyright does for British photos.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:41, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. Permission for photo use

Dear Rama, Thank you for your diligent work providing photos and open source documentary evidence. I am requesting to use your photo file Zakkur Stele 0154.jpg for my personal and educational website/blog. The purpose of this site is twofold: 1). To blog about my personal journey as an Arab-American and "Classicist," a problematic and elitist (arguably racist) term and field describing those who study and teach the ancient languages, history, and culture of the Greeks, Romans, and Ancient Mediterranean. 2). To provide some lesson plans and resources for Latin teachers, which will focus on passages and excerpts of Greek and Latin that relate to the ancient Near East and North Africa.

I have taught ancient Greek, Latin, Mythology, and Roman History to students of all ages and diverse backgrounds. As a university lecturer, I have taught courses specifically on "Rome & Carthage in the Republic", "Rome & Jerusalem in the 1st centuries", and "Rome & Constantinople in the Late Roman Empire." Each of those classes encouraged students to read about and explore Rome's complex, imperialist relationships with the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa

c'est plus compliqué: les deux images montrent une partie de la galerie d'étude de la salle 636. C'est une longue vitrine qui est proche d'un mur de la salle, comme un couloir, de sorte qu'il est impossible de tout photographier, on ne peut pas reculer assez.
Je devrais peut-être modifier File:Room 636 display 3-IMG 2895.jpg pour que ça soit plus évident et éviter de suggérer quelque chose de trompeur.

En contre-partie vous devez mentionner l'auteur et la licence ("Rama, Cc-by-sa-2.0-fr"), mais vous êtes libre de la convention typographique (page de garde, note de bas de page, liste à la fin de l'ouvrage etc.) L'idée est de permettre aux lecteurs de savoir qu'ils ont eux aussi le droit d'utiliser l'image, et de promouvoir le principe de la culture libre.
Le reste de la publication n'est pas affecté par la licence de l'image, et reste bien sûr votre responsabilité éditoriale.

Many thanks! I have taken this SVG and repasted the content onto the map of this one File:Blank map of the world (Robinson projection) (10E).svg. The result on Inkscape looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/JII2dN4. There is no change at all to the content, only the map has been changed and minor label positionings. Replacing the file: absolutely, and thank you for your help!
Selection crop: it's not most intuitive think on Inkscape: create a rectangle at the desired size and position, select it and set it to transparent fill and border so it does not show; now go to "File -> Document Properties"; there will be a collapsing menu called " > Resize page to content..."; display this and click the button "Resize page to drawing or selection".
The rest of the map will still be there, but "off-camera" if you will, and in the Wikimedia viewers the file should display your area of interest.

OK, thanks for the help! I have successfully cropped it. Also I did several fixes: I corrected the positioning of a few cities like Cairo and Glasgow; I corrected some lines like the one that did not touch Frankfurt; I corrected the positioning towards Washington which is more south than it was before. The current version looks really dark, especially compared to this alternative I've found. You can barely make out the far left guy's face.

I was thinking to reupload the file as either that alterative (more cropped and lower quality, but better lighting and doesn't have those two random tears in the middle), or upload your version with a bit more brightness added to it.

Hunting scene depicting a horserider of probable Xiongnu origin: the rider wears a hairbun characteristic of the oriental steppes, and his horse has characteristically Xiongnu horse trappings. 2nd-1st century BC. Excavated in Saksanokhur (near Farkhor), Tajikistan.[1]

Dear Rama, I don't know if I can ask you this, but I'll try anyway... There is currently in the Guimet Museum special exhibit on Tajikistan an incredible belt buckle with the figure of a purported Xiongnu horserider (very rare...). There are some fairly nice pictures already (attached), but not stellar... Do you think you may have an opportunity to photograph it? (photography is allowed, I called them, and we already have quite a few images at Category:Tadjikistan, au pays des fleuves d’or) The head portion especially is interesting and it would be ideal to have it on all angles in good detail... it's quite an ethnographic document... The exhibit closes on January 10th, so that might be tight. Anyway, just trying. I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and the very best for 2022! How we will see unregistered users

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Bonjour! I would like to use your image File:Chalice-IMG 4590.jpg in a personal project, and I will of course be crediting you in full. (The project will take some years to complete, but I'll let you know if/when it's eventually released.) I wondered if you had a version without the red background? I can take the time to cut the background out myself in GIMP, but it occurred to me that you may have a version with transparency or a different background colour already (the red background complements the highlights on the chalice reflections, as you intended, but that makes tracing the outline more difficult). Pour File:1-IMG_4124.jpg, ce genre de signature s'appelle "watermark" en jagon Commoniste ; tu peux la signaler avec le modèle {{Watermark}}, et comme l'image est sous licence libre, quelqu'un s'occupera de l'enlever. Note que le nom de l'image non plus n'est pas idéal, et elle gagnerait à être renommée de façon plus descriptive ; tu trouveras le modèle adéquat à {{Rename}}.
Pour File:44Gitega.jpg : dans le menu de gauche (sous le logo de Commons), à la rubrique "Outils", tu devrais avoir un lien "Proposer la suppression" qui aide à remplir les formulaires adéquates. Si tu penses qu'il n'y a pas matière à débat parce que l'image est clairement un copyvio, tu peux simplement apposer le modèle {{Copyvio}} sur l'image.

Nevertheless, the image was taken by a US Navy pilot, and such images are automatically in the Public Domain, by law. You can safely use it.

J'ai créé {{Wiki Afrique en images}} et quelques sous-pages, la partie qui contient l'information est à {{Wiki Afrique en images/en}}. Tu peux éditer ce texte (j'ai fait au mieux de ce que je comprenais du projet), et créer {{Wiki Afrique en images/fr}} et Commons:Wiki Afrique en images si nécessaire.
Je n'ai pas trouvé de modèle "soutenu par la WMF", mais au pire tu peux l'indiquer dans {{Wiki Afrique en images/en}} sous forme de texte en expliquant la relation entre la WMF et le projet.

There are a number of images of one specific such object at Category:Bust of Roman emperor as pharaoh-E 27418. If that is the one you are thinking about, it is an identified artifact on display at the Louvre, we can simply refer to the catalog of the museum.

Yes, both files are now gone. If you are trying to learn how to contribute, you can photograph landmarks in you neighbourhood or take pictures of a local museum if they allow it, such images are always welcome and useful.

Pour celles qui ont des informations Exif, j'ai rajouté la date comme diff par exemple. Il reste encore 80 images sans date. As-tu une idée de quand elles ont été prises ? Je vois principalement deux formats de nom de fichier :

  • File:CERN-p<numéro>.jpg: 13 images
  • File:CERN-rama-<numéro>.jpg: 63 images

Je crois qu'elles datent toutes du 25 février 2006. Pas absolument certain mais très confiant. Les File:CERN-p<numéro>.jpg viennent d'un Panasonic Lumix que j'utilisais à l'époque, et les File:CERN-rama-<numéro>.jpg d'un apareil argentique, probablement un Leica R4s.

J'ai commencé à faire ce travail. Mon bot ajoute une date si elle existe dans les données Exif (diff). Dans quelques cas, la date Exif ne correspond pas à la date déjà présente. Dans ce cas j'ajoute la catégorie Category:Files by Rama with mismatched dates (diff). Et si aucune date ne peut être trouvée, le bot ajoute {{Other date|?}}. Ainsi on peut facilement trouver les fichiers sans date avec "author rama" incategory:"Unknown date". Cryptic-waveform (talk) 18:25, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ça a l'air de concerner surtout des images éditées après coup (recadrées ou détourées). Je regarderai à l'ocacsion si j'arrive à en dater, typiquement elles viennent par grappes donc ça devrait faire moins de travail que d'images.

Flag of the Delhi Sultanate: help needed

Hello Rama! I hope everything is well. I may need help to resolve an ongoing hoax about the color of the flag of the Delhi Sultanate (13th-15th century India). Only one depiction exists, from the Catalan Atlas of 1375: , as it appears in this plate: , and general background is explained in this article: Wikipedia (en).
BUT, some people have been pushing a green version of the flag for a long time (as you will see in the histories , ) whereas the flag is actually grey/greyish as seen from the primary source above, and scholarly sources also describe it a grey/brownish, not green: "....another curious flag found in northern India – a brown or originally sliver flag with a vertical black line – as the flag of the Delhi Sultanate (602-962/1206-1555)." in (2010). You will also see that the Catalan Atlas map has plenty of vivid green otherwise, so it is not a question of green color fading....
I have a sense that this has a potential for a lot of edit warring, for a long time (started here [3]). Would it be possible to protect or block the file pages concerned? There are three of them: , , .
