You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

BSicon[edit]

Hi, great work with all the BSicons! May I suggest that you use a text editor to generate them? Programs such as Inkscape introduce a lot of junk code that drastically increases its size and makes it unreadable. Such simple files as BSicons are better created and edited using a simple text editor, like Notepad or Notepad++; you may preview them in any modern Internet Browser. Try opening for example (tSTRa), (tLSTR) or (LSTR) in such a text editor. Also, we have started collecting various samples of coding at BSicon/Icon geometry and SVG code neatness. In meiner Freizeit bin ich als Wikipedia-Autor tätig und beschäftige mich u.a. mit liechtensteinischen Themen. In diesem Zusammenhang ist die Frage nach dem Längen-Breiten-Verhältnis der Schaaner Gemeindeflagge aufgetaucht. Auf ihrer Homepage und im Schaaner Wappenreglement lassen sich dazu keine Angaben finden.

Auf Wikimedia – der Bilderdatenbank für Wikipedia – lassen sich zwei verschiedene Schaaner Wappen finden:

Flag of Schaan Liechtenstein-1.svg hat ein Breiten-Höhen-Verhältnis von 4 : 1 und ist hängend dargestellt
Flag of Schaan.svg hat ein Breiten-Höhen-Verhältnis von 3 : 5 und ist liegend dargestellt.

Benutzt die Gemeinde Schaan beide Formen dieser Flaggen oder ist nur eine Variante im Gebrauch. Vielen herzlich Dank für Ihre Auskunft.

Sehr geehrter Herr X.

Herzlichen Dank für Ihre Anfrage - es freut mich, wenn unser Wappen bzw. unsere Flagge auf Resonanz stösst.

In der Verleihungsurkunde des Wappens (she. Anhang) ist lediglich das Grössenverhältnis der Balken definiert. So wird es auch (hoffentlich) gehandhabt.

Die liegende Form ist praktisch nicht in Gebrauch - weder mir noch unserem Werkmeister ist etwas bekannt, diese Form sieht für uns auch seltsam aus, da ungewohnt.

Wir verwenden nur die hängende Form; allerdings, wie erwähnt, ohne Definition des Verhältnisses Länge:Breite. Wir verwenden in der Regel Fahnen 5*1m, ältere noch in den Massen 3*0.8 und 5*0.8 (aber immer im richtigen Verhältnis der Balken zu einander).

Gerne schaue ich morgen in die Wikipedia. Bereits jetzt viel Erfolg und Spass an Ihrer Tagung in Schaan!

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

Hallo Plutowiki; dein Löschantrag Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dübendorf Luftaufnahme von Westen 2011.tif - ich habe das Bild gerade behalten - hat mich erstaunt, daher auch hier noch kurz der Hinweis: Du schreibst "Das Foto wurde von Anidaat hochgeladen, der für dieses Foto über keine Urheberrechte verfügt", was natürlich völlig korrekt ist, jedoch ist das Bild - wie auch Rosenzweig festgehalten hat - von der ETH unter CC BY-SA freigegeben, was im ETH-Bildarchiv so nachzulesen ist, d.h. jedermann darf es hier unter dieser Lizenz hochladen.
