{{zabytek}}[edit]

Zerknij. [1] i [2]. QI templates[edit]

These additions by you [3] [4] [5] I consider as violation of the promotion rules of COM:Quality image candidates, since one have always to wait three days and images get promoted by the QICbot (!) when no objections appeared during that time. In that cases, looking at the contributions of user who processed nominations [6] I strongly suppose sockpuppetry, but that is not the point here. Anyway, I've reverted all templates and categories unwarrantedly added there, and I hereby request you to refrain from doing something on QIC until got to know the guidelines. - Thanks, A.Savin 10:16, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Same here and here. Both files have never been a QI. Sorry, I'm recently lost for words... - A.Savin 10:27, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Could you help me with this - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Bots/Requests/Aibot --A1 (talk) 23:38, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please take care about categorization of this user uploads. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:44, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

and Madzik stu (talk · contribs) too. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:45, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Who could know Poland better then Poles? :-) I understand that you could be busy with other problem, but is there any page dedicated to coordinating WLM where I could ask help with categorization? Otherwise entire WLM content seems just dump of useless photos... --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:55, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Eugene, I think saying that WLM content is "just (a) dump of useless photos" is a bit over the top. Sure, we do need categorisation of our images, but when one looks at the above user (Socjol) what we have here is a brand new editor who has contributed over 100 photos to our project. And being brand new, they likely are overwhelmed with our process, especially in relation to categorisation and the like -- it can be quite daunting as well for such editors -- trust me I know, from my own experience in trying to introduce aviation photographers to our projects. I dunno if you have found the project page, but COM:WLM should be able to help you here. russavia (talk) 20:17, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please note word otherwise. I tried Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments/Help desk without much success. My question was about similar page dedicated to WML activities related to Poland. Sorry, if I was not clear. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:43, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Taking charge barnstar[edit]

"Taking charge" barnstar
Hey Odder, because you are such a take charge kinda guy, leading glorious wiki-editors into battle in fulfilling the aims of WLM, and for all the work you have done with WLM this year, I hereby award you with the Taking charge barnstar. Cheers, russavia (talk) 20:10, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your abuse of steward status[edit]

Cześć, moje zmiany były podyktowane troską o projekt, chęcią ochrony przed wandalami i ochroną prywatności, a jednocześnie zmiany nie nosiły znamion kontrowersyjnych.

Jeśli nawet ominął jakieś procedury, to przecież nie zrobił nic złego - wręcz przeciwnie: zadziałał zgodnie z moją dobrą intensją i zdrowym rozsądkiem. Sylwia Ufnalska (talk) 17:44, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bardzo dziękuję za wyjaśnienie. Życzę wszystkiego dobrego.Sylwia Ufnalska (talk) 18:13, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2012[edit]

Hi Odder. I see that you're one of the contact people of Wiki Loves Monuments. Perhaps you can help me. I just answered three tickets in OTRS regarding questions about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 (see also here; it's about ticket:2012092910001487, ticket:2012093010007068 and ticket:2012093010001715). But I'm not sure if I gave the correct answers and I should have probably moved the tickets to the Wiki Loves Monuments queue, but I didn't know such a queue existed. They're in the Commons queue to which you should have access now. Thanks in advance for the help. Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 14:43, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a look at ticket:2012092910001487 (the second reply). I tried to contact you on the chat, but it seemed you weren't around. This user tried to upload four/five images, but didn't succeed. If she will try again to upload these, will she still be a candidate in the contest? Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 20:33, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect she put them in the upload wizard but didn't finish all the steps. She has no contributions at all in commons, not even deleted. Platonides (talk) 23:04, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

crusades[edit]

hi Odder! If my comment about the crusades offended you, I apologize. It was well-meant, although the wording may have been unfortunate, as I now see. My impression has been that you are somewhat at odds with some of the pl-wiki gang, but I have no time to hunt for diffs of bone picking, and much more importantly if you say that it is not so, I believe you. Cheers! Pundit (talk) 16:34, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Dodawanie kategorii bez opisu edycji[edit]

Cześć! Włączyłem sobie tego HotCata i chyba go polubię. Kroton (talk) 17:43, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Roland[edit]

Hi Odder what is your opinion about this category? For instance I have received also a request from the user Cassinam who was uploading these three photos and finished the upload (with Commonist) after 4 minutes. For instance we may evaluate to include them. Roland should do the same. --Ilario (talk) 12:01, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. --Ilario (talk) 12:52, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you changes in this image, which (for some reason obscure to me) is made up from 6×6 square pixel blocks. Certainly, this problem with the file is not your fault, but you could (and should) compare your upload with earlier revisions.

  • Before your involvement many blocks were not uniform – some gradient was present.
  • In your (current) version each block has a uniform color (at least as I see with naked eyes), so there was a severe information loss.

Are you willing and able to deal with the issue yourself? Or I should discuss it with image quality experts? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:12, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I made a wrong conclusion due to a progressive JPEG rendering artefact. The problem with 6×6 blocks, of course, is not relevant to you. Sorry. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:27, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dałbyś radę to jakoś odkręcić? Kroton (talk) 19:18, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012!

Dear Odder,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2012, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world!

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 350,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from 36 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

More logos[edit]

Hello, odder, I'm leaving here some notes for you as you expressed interest in working on logos again. m:User:Cbrown1023/Logos has the list; we've just fixed a bunch of Wikipedia logos so what's most urgent now is the Wiktionary ones, IMHO (which is why I notified them all locally). There are currently almost 50 Wikipedia logos and about 50 Wiktionary logos to create, like this:

  1. look at the last columns to see which are with a red link or only old logo (v1 Wikipedia, or non-scrabble/tile logo); either of PNG or SVG is enough;
  2. if there are both name and motto (no red warning/"missing" nor "check" note), proceed;
  3. if it's not a Wiktionary with "custom config" note, proceed;
  4. create the SVG accordingly and overwrite it on Commons if already existing (wrongly) under that name.

A future step would be to also create all missing PNG/SVG where we don't have both, but one is enough to start with. Thanks! --Nemo 21:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problemy[edit]

80.171.90.117 21:14, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

category removing[edit]

I hereby urgently request you to keep away from WLM and QI categorizing, since this and similar edits where you had removed useful categories I tend to see as vandalism. Sadly, it seems you learned not much from the similar issue two months ago. Besides, you generally don't need to categorize *my* QI's, as I always do it myself, and (imo) I do it completely and without any slips. Oh, and please don't write me on my talk page, since the issue has been started here, i. e. if you have something to claim on the above, you'll better do it where the discussion has began, namely: straight here. - A.Savin 19:24, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will stop making any edits related to Wiki Loves Monuments and Quality Images starting now. odder (talk) 19:27, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefuly this (+[9]) isn't an act of defiance, since I prefer when an admin is able to learn something. - A.Savin 19:40, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And one more thing — I am not going to revert you, but categories like Category:May 2012 in Germany or Category:2012 in Berlin are completely useless for pictures like those that I dared to edit.
I don't care what you prefer in an admin or not. You calling my edits vandalism was one drop too many, so I decided to spend some time away from Wikimedia Commons. I will not be categorising Wiki Loves Monuments images into Category:Quality images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2012, so you are very welcome to do that starting tomorrow. Good luck. odder (talk) 19:52, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A.Savin, I'm unsure why you find it necessary to be so rude. I guess it must be obvious to you that Odder is acting in good faith. In the edit you link, I am assuming he accidentally removed two categories (2012 in Berlin / May 2012 in Germany) - that can happen. You can perhaps understand that just like you , we like to keep track of what images that are relevant to us (to you) have been promoted to quality images. I'm glad if you volunteer to assist with keeping track of Wiki Loves Monuments quality images of course! Many hands make light work. It would be appreciated though if you could be a bit more constructive in your feedback. People make mistakes (we're not all as perfect as some of us) and if you're constructive about it at a friendly tone, the chances are higher that you will actually result any positive effect. Calling good faith edits vandalism is definitely not constructive. Effeietsanders (talk) 19:55, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Let's have one thing straight here: I removed those categories intentionally, not accidentally, because I find them too general and of very little use in those pictures. I don't care what happens next — I am done with this conversation. odder (talk) 20:06, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say you're right, I'm sorry, it was way too rude. The reason is, that we already had a similar issue some time ago. For my part, I basically do not find categories like "year X in country Y" useless, I think this question generally may be discussed on categories for discussion pages, and not by simply removing them. Sorry anyway, I don't want to overdraw. - A.Savin 20:10, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1500 WLM2012 QIs!![edit]

Hello Odder, I received (indirectly) your congratulations email about the achievement of 1500 QIs out of WLM2012. I think that it is the time to drop in at your page and thank you for tracking that, for your categorizations (not only related to WLM!) and for your efforts overall. I don't believe either that we will break the 200 by end of the year but since I still have about 100 candidates for QI that participated in WLM I will prioritize those to get them through as soon as possible. Categories name[edit]

I have already raised this question in discussions, and thus I know that all the categories must be named in English only. No Polish, or French, or Russian category names are possible on Commons site. This is why we cannot create the category in Polish or Russian, and we have to translate it in English. You may also raise this question on Village Pump to get the same answer. This is an international site, so no local languages may be used in caterory names.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 10:55, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Odder, just a heads up that PereslavlFoto has mentioned this at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Non-English_categories. Likely an inappropriate place for such discussion, but we could move it to the VP? russavia (talk) 11:08, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the named discussion Russavia states the category name to be Jasna Góra Harvest Festival, instead of non-English Dożynki Jasnogórskie. Please keep with the language policy.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 12:05, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PereslavlFoto, in this regard, nothing I have said is set in stone. It is what I would make the category. It is, of course, subject to discussion amongst editors, and based upon consensus, whilst taking into account policy. Also, what Odder has done here is moved the category back to it's prior name, because the "Russianised" name was obviously incorrect. If you think the category should be moved to another name, as it is obviously a controversial move, please use COM:CFD. russavia (talk) 12:46, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was already set in stone several times, in other discussions I've seen, that categories may be named only in English. Other languages were not kept, and the categories were deleted or renamed into English names. Yet I agree that, in my own opinion, a category may have any name in any language, but the Commons tradition keeps other way. (There is no rule against non-English categories, but the local-language categories are always renamed into English for it became an international speech.)--PereslavlFoto (talk) 13:01, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with the name Dozhinki Jasnogurskie is that it is not English, either. odder (talk) 20:55, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot oppose, for you being from Poland must know this much better. Maybe this name really cannot be pronounced in English and written by sounds. Then you are welcome to make a category that will have an English name! (Note: I made that category because Polish ż sounds like zh, and Polish ó sounds like u.)--PereslavlFoto (talk) 21:34, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have way too much time on my hands....[edit]

so says Yarl anyways...I agree with him wholeheartedly.

80.171.90.31 16:08, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider[edit]

I was planning to drop you a note anyway but have been very short of time. I was going to ask you to take a look at the block on Malcolm Schosha which I felt was a little long under the circumstances. I would very very rarely interfere with another respected Commons user's actions and will not do so in this case but the block does seem long.

However my reason for posting now is that on a user's own talk page there is nothing at all to stop them deleting postings if they wish as far as I know - please point me to the policy if there is. I certainly do so on my own talk page. Sorry to trouble you - regards --Herby talk thyme 14:04, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to be difficult but I want a pointer to policy/rules not "you don't think it should happen". User talk pages are not the same as community pages. I have always considered myself free to keep or delete anything on mine and I believe that is the same for you and everyone else unless they are current warnings.
We will have to differ on the block sadly. --Herby talk thyme 08:13, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
