Hello Multichill,

you unfortunately chose not to comment any further on your restoration of this file, even though I alerted you to the further discussion about this on my discussion page. Since the restoration was completely out of process, I have deleted the file again according to the valid result of the deletion request. If you (or anybody else) feel this file should be restored, please make a proper undeletion request. Thank you. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 19:19, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Admins like you are the exact reason why people leave Commons. I hope you're proud of yourself. Multichill (talk) 21:14, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
If the people who consistently upload copyvios leave us (hint: have a look at the uploader's talk page), I'd consider that good news. --Rosenzweig τ 21:18, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi Multichill. I find your comment rather unpleasant. Uploader Bakel123 has made many trials and errors but his learning curve is not improving. Two of his latest contributions mention the websites he took them from: [1] is from [2] and has a copyright notice here: [3] and [4] is from [5] and has a copyright notice here: [6]. I would recommend speedy deletion. It is not correct to blame the person who points out mistakes and fixes them. Blame instead the person who repeatedly makes mistakes and childishly complains on many talk pages how badly he is being treated. --VanBuren (talk) 14:09, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Ide Hill

You created Category:Ide Hill category a couple of years ago and stated that it, not Betsom's Hill, is the highest point in Kent. This is a puzzle: the highest spot height the OS has at Ide Hill is 215 metres, but Betsom's Hill reaches 245 metres. Do you have anything to back Ide Hill's claim? Hogweard (talk) 13:55, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

I automagically created a lot of categories back then. All based on English Wikipedia articles. In this case en:Ide Hill. I don't have any knowledge of the contents. You probably want to take this to the talk page of the article. Feel free to change the description on the category to whatever you think is best. Multichill (talk) 14:41, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Smiley.toerist (talk) 12:14, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Dat onderscheid kan ik helaas niet maken. Dank voor het verplaatsen. Multichill (talk) 12:39, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

On the organization of highlighted (FP/QI/VI) media in Commons main category structure

Hi Multichill, I have started a discussion regarding some thoughts about getting a better integration and display of FP/QI/VIs in the main category structure at Commons:Village pump#Highlighted content in main category structure. As one of our main categorizationists orchestrated by your categorization bots, I thought you might have an opinion regarding these matters. If so, feel free to join the discussion. --Slaunger (talk) 22:42, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Geitost diskusjon 01:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Can you please explain to me the intent of the recently created Category:Historic buildings in the United States and its subcategories? In the hierarchy at the moment it seems unconnected to such longstanding categories as Category:National Register of Historic Places and Category:Landmarks in the United States. Also, at least one subcategory, Category:Historic buildings in Washington, is otherwise placed only in two non-existent categories and hence unconnected to anything else about the state of Washington.

What are the criteria for inclusion as a "historic building"? If it is unrelated to official lists of historic places and landmarks, it seems to me to be entirely subjective. Or do you have something more specific in mind? I see that at least many of the images seem to come from HABS. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to create categories specific to HABS photos? - Jmabel ! talk 05:20, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

@Jmabel: Please see the discussion two sections above, in which myself and another editor also raise questions about Multichill's categorization. Beyond My Ken (talk) 10:04, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Generally I would have difficulty thinking that the parent Category:Historic buildings is not a good intuitive Commons category which would be an obvious candidate for geographic sub-categories. Is there a consensus somewhere about the level of subjectivity that a category can have, noting that we have long standing categories such as Category:God which does not have any actual photographs of God in it and no criteria to explain what should be in it. Thanks -- (talk) 10:17, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
There's nothing formal, but it's repeatedly come up at COM:CFD and is pretty much always a consensus there. For example, categories with "interesting" or "famous" in their name are almost always removed, and, in my experience, categories for "landmarks" almost all depend on an official designation. The problem with a subjective category is that we are likely to have endless edit wars as to whether a particular picture belongs in the category, with no way to resolve the matter. - Jmabel ! talk 16:51, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Belle School, East Caln Township, Chester County, PA HABS - photographer, date, location unknown

I'd think the simple way to deal with the HABS photos is a/many HABS category(ies) which are subcats of historic buildings cats. People who are looking for (perhaps subjectively) historical buildings, get an objective source of historical buildings. I actually think HABS is usually more reliable that NRHP, but there are destroyed buildings in it, a few "Oh wow didn't that look nice" photos, a different perspective (e.g. fewer modern buildings) and a a lot of overlap. There are also a few non-HABS or unidentified sources (1%?) and even a few unidentified places but I can pretty well guarantee that 99.99% of the unidentified sources are freely licensable. Category discussion warning

Historic buildings in the United States has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
