{{Artwork}}-> Translatewiki

Multichill, As we have discussed at Template_talk:Artwork#Translatewiki_messages Artwork template is ready to be moved to Translatewiki. Can you do it and/or point me out to some instructions of how it is usually done? I am helping user:Dominic with Template:NARA-image-full and I think we will create a customized template for him which will be very similar to {{Artwork}}. Having {{Artwork}} translated by Translatewiki would make it much easier to internationalize the new template. --Jarekt (talk) 13:05, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jarekt, see my response at Template talk:Artwork#Translatewiki messages: I imported the template. Multichill (talk) 18:09, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Structured lists in galician

Hi!, We are woking on lists for WLM in Galician Wikipedia to use it at WLM in Spain. Galicia is an Autonomous Comunity of Spain.

We have created gl:Modelo:BIC. Could you add it to the database?. The name is the field nomeoficial, the id is the field id, the adress is lugar, the municipality is concello, lat and lon are similar, image is "imaxe", and other fields are "outrosnomes", "data_declaracion", "idurl" e "paxina".

Thank you!, --Elisardojm (talk) 00:04, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi!, do you have noticed my previous message?. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 07:51, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Uncategoriztion of categorized images

Hello Multichill,

Is it possible to command your bot to place the Uncategorized template on images which are categorized only with non-existant categories? This is happening a lot with the new UW, since it doesn't show the red link for non existent categories, but there are a lot of other images in the same situation.-- Darwin Ahoy! 08:43, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

New CC templates

Hi. Few days ago I created {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-it}} and {{Cc-by-3.0-it}}, along with:

but there's something wrong, the message from translatewiki is not shown. Can you help? Thank you in advance.--Trixt (talk) 09:18, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Looks like someone else already updated it. I'll ask someone to update Commons so these messages can be used here. Multichill (talk) 16:13, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done. Templates are active now. Multichill (talk) 21:31, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

nowcommons.php

Hi Mutichill, The call to your toolserver page nowcommons.php is often returning me a blank page. Looks like it would be a good idea to increase the time out value of the query you use in the tool. Thoughts? --Sreejith K (talk) 06:26, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

File:BU West sign.JPG deletion discussion

Ben.mq mentioned that you'd discussed File:BU West sign.JPG with him on IRC, and that you believe it meets threshold of originality. I don't, hence why I decided to upload it and a cropped version. I won't be able to actively join the discussion till later (just got back from vacation), but if you're willing to comment on the discussion here that would be awesomely cool. Thanks! Navy uploads, e.g. 110707-N-BA418-115

Hi Multichill,

The Navy uploads seem to work quite well, providing us a continuous stream of new images.

If it's easy to do, you might want to change the date format and opt for the new section header format [1]. Personally, I'd remove the redundant parts as well [2]. Nothing major, but nice to have. --  Docu  at 09:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

If I create new sub-categories under this category will they be ignored (ie will the bot mark files with only an "Uncategorized" category as "uncategorized" still) ? --Tony Wills (talk) 12:07, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand what you're asking and I don't understand what you're doing.
Why did you create Category:Media needing categories as of September 2009?
Why don't you remove {{Uncategorized}} when you categorize an image?
Multichill (talk) 16:15, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
1) Will your bot remove the uncategorized template just because it finds Category:Media needing categories as of September 2009 et al?
2) Cat-a-lot and other tools need a real category, and as no one was forthcoming with modifying cat-a-lot (to work with templated categories) or the categorization bot (to add real categories), other techniques have to be found :-).
3) Cat-a-lot doesn't know how to remove your templates, besides I don't consider images with only one general category to be properly categorized. I expect that sooner or later (perhaps when you do your hidden-cat bot run), your bot will pick up the fact that there are categories added. But I hope that will not be too soon as those images still need more work.
What is the current number of uncategorized files (files marked with your template) ? --Tony Wills (talk) 12:14, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I am very happy that Cat-a-lot doesn't remove those templates. It happens all the time that we create or fill up a category by doing a quick search, such as Category:Wrought iron gates in the United Kingdom. Those side-category additions do not mean that the file categorisation should not be checked anymore. For stats: see User:Multichill/Categorization stats. --Foroa (talk) 12:35, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Time for a new graph --Tony Wills (talk) 21:55, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, you reverted my edit of this template. If you look into Category:Other speedy deletions, there isn't any "uncategorized" category. But if you look here, there are 2 empty categories (12 december 2008 and 5 may 2009) with "speedydelete" template on it's pages. So template "Speedydelete" build-in template UncategorizedHeader don't work correctly.--Honza chodec, earlier known as Slfi (talk) 15:43, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Sure?
Your reasoning is incorrect. To get them in the Category:Other speedy deletions category you need to do a null edit. Your edit was the trigger but doesn't solve the problem (it's the way MediaWiki works). Just save the category without changing anything and it shows up in Category:Other speedy deletions. Multichill (talk) 15:48, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Can you please tell me:

  1. Why categorized pictures of mine are claimed by your bot as uncategorized?
  2. Why the categorization of the mincer_xxx.pngs has been deleted(?) after the upload process or not overtaken(?) during the upload process? --Sigbert (talk) 18:22, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
  1. See User:CategorizationBot#Why did CategorizationBot notify me of already categorized images?
  2. I don't understand your question exactly. When you uploaded this image it didn't contain any categories. Maybe you used hotcat, but didn't press ok to accept the category you added?
Multichill (talk) 19:46, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Category discussion notification Category:Slindon has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Tagging with NowCommons

Hey! I tested your new bot and it is cool that we do not need the toolserver. However it tagged this file [3] that is only a description for a file on Commons. I think the bot should skip such "files". Perhaps you could have a look one day. --MGA73 (talk) 14:24, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

File:Europeana logo 3 eu black.png which you uploaded has been tagged with {{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the Volunteer Response Team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the Volunteer Response Team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have already sent the permission, please re-send it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org now. Please quote the file name ("File:Europeana logo 3 eu black.png") in your email. At the same time, please leave a message at the VRT noticeboard so that a volunteer can follow this up or contact a VRT member directly.

BotMultichillT removing valid Uncategorized tags

Hi! It looks like BotMultichillT is engaged in a bit of an edit war with CategorizationBot over what constitutes minimally accepted categorization. For example, in this edit, BotMultichillT removed what I believe is a correct {{Uncategorized}} tag. The file has no topic categories, but only hidden categories (CC-BY-SA-3.0, Self-published work and Category:Uploaded with UploadWizard) and one non-hidden maintenance category (Deletion requests July 2011). The same also applies to the uploads of RedeAssistencialSP, if you need more examples. Would it be possible to tweak the heuristics to avoid this issue? LX (talk, contribs) 09:31, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I noticed some of these edits too. That's because the deletion subcategories were not hidden. I fixed that. Multichill (talk) 11:19, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Pieter Kuiper

I note that you've unblocked this user before; is it OK that he's continuing to remove problems tags from images without fixing the problem? This isn't my first run in with him. I originally just placed a nice note on his talk page, but I see this has been a problem before. The diff is here: [4]. Magog the Ogre (talk) 01:25, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

If someone disputes you're (semi-)speedy deletion it's bad practice to revert this user. You should have opened a regular deletion request, not just reverted Pieter. Multichill (talk) 07:52, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Ah; I see how this works. Everyone tells the user to stop, and two Dutch admins just step in to set up a protection racket. Awesome. Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:07, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Me being Dutch has nothing to do with this. This is how I responded and will respond to very (semi-)speedy deletion which gets disputed. And yes, I protect images from getting needlessly deleted. Multichill (talk) 20:12, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

So you've decided to ignore policy which says that images have to be sourced. That's pretty haughty of you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:24, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Stop implying things and stick to the facts.
If someone disputes a no souce/permission you don't just revert them, you open a regular deletion request. Multichill (talk) 20:27, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

I've implied nothing. I think your actions suck and I said so directly. By allowing someone to remove a no source tag for any reason whatsoever (including "it doesn't matter", I like it, etc.) that is outside a genuine sourcing, you've allowed for de facto disruption and emasculated the "images must be sourced" policy that Commons has. That is why the entirety of the admin corps other than one other Dutch admin seems to disagree with you (I can't see how that would be worth wheel-warring over, but I guess I wasn't there every time). Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:33, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Bot incorrect categories

Hi, can some thing be done to stop the bot adding incorrect county cats to images such as this where the bot added Category:East Riding of Yorkshire to the image instead of Category:North Yorkshire. I have already removed this and similar incorrect additions of sub-categories of East Riding of Yorkshire for 100 Whitby images, I have just started on Scarborough images for which there are over 200. Thanks Keith D (talk) 23:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
