Information about split files

Hi Morgankevinj. Thank You for spliting File:LocationCrimea.PNG.

When spliting files, please don't forget to check that all file pages of the split files have appropriate information, especially description, categories, date of origin (first upload), author, sources (if the newest versions are derivatives from the previous versions, it should be noted at the file page and the authors of the source versions as co-authors) etc. --ŠJů (talk) 02:26, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

marina is adjacent to the Peninsula Neighborhood

The marina is adjacent to the Peninsula Neighborhood, isn't it, not Old Lake Highlands which is on the other side of Buckner Blvd?

OTRS question

Hello, I'm terribly confused about the process of uploading an image to Wikimedia Commons. I have been tasked with uploading a copyrighted image - and I understand I must obtain permission of the copyright holder first. I have started that process and expect to receive the proper permission with the legal forms very soon. What I don't understand is when, where and how I should upload the image so I can use the URL in the permission email as requested. Is there a simple step-by-step instruction somewhere? I've never tried this before and I don't want to mess it up. Your name came up on a list of volunteers who can help beginners like me navigate the legalese of Wikimedia. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!Bczogalla (talk) 01:26, 9 July 2015 (UTC)Bczogalla

When you upload the image type {{OTRS pending}} in the permission field when uploading or add it to the permission field of the information template after you have uploaded it. Make sure to include the license that the copyright holder has agreed to. Generally the license would be Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 but when you ask for permission they need to clearly state that they are releasing their work under that license. We prefer that permission be given according the form at Commons:Email templates/Consent. MorganKevinJ(talk) 01:58, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

De-adminship warning

Dear Morgankevinj, I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Aug-Sep 2015 within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Seems like clear intent

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests&diff=204397122&oldid=204396895 : really? Seems like the intent was entirely clear. I would have gone the other way. - Jmabel ! talk 20:48, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Since it is a legal statement we can not allow room for ambiguity. The email consent template page clearly states in footnote 5 that the exact license name must be used. I sent email through OTRS asking for more specific permission MorganKevinJ(talk) 00:17, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi! First: Usually I don't revert another admin. Sarang complained about the newest version creating problems. Could you have a peek @ Template_talk:Image_generation#Revert_please. Thanks! café --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:51, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

File:KAP7763.jpg

Hello, can you please have a look at File:KAP7763.jpg? It seems that ticket:2011052410016962 relates to it. According to it the file has not been relicensed to cc-by-sa properly. There is an OTRS-pending sign without using template since 2011 so I'd put it into DR or maybe speedydelete but first I want to ask if you remembered any other communication about that file or if you'd like to give it a chance and continue in the ticket after 6 years. Personally I didn't find any other ticket about it. What do you think? Regards, --Mates (talk) 19:01, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

No, I cannot find any other emails regarding that file. I tried text searches on the filename, bandname and name of the person who sent the first email. No related results were returned. MorganKevinJ(talk) 17:39, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Re: Autopatrol given

Please don't do that. Because I Don't Want to Be an Autopatrolled User. I gave my reasons here: [1]. In addition, some users think that I don't know enough about the Commons rules(see: special:diff/356548539). I think that I shouldn't have autopatrol rights. On the other hand, if I have the autopatrol rights, then it makes me feel I am being severely punished.--Kai3952 (talk) 04:14, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Why didn't you ask me first before you granted autopatrol rights to me?--Kai3952 (talk) 05:47, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
I want to delete the record of "autopatroller" from my user page because it left a shadow in my heart.--Kai3952 (talk) 11:21, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
As 4nn1l2 stated when closing the Administrators Noticeboard discussion you are free to remove the message from your user talk page. There is no need for me or any other administrator to remove the notice. MorganKevinJ(talk) 22:01, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
What?! Didn't you know that you have granted autopatrol rights to my account? Please selected "All public logs" from the drop-down box, and entered "User:Kai3952" under target.--Kai3952 (talk) 11:32, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

@Kai3952:  Not done Revision deletion may not be used for this purpose. MorganKevinJ(talk) 17:49, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

If so, what should I do next?--Kai3952 (talk) 04:19, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
The fact that logs say that you were granted autopatrol and that I removed based on your request will make it clear to other administrators in the future that you do not want the autopatrol right. If you created a new account or the logs were redacted you would likely end up in the same situation again since autopatrol can granted soley based on prior edit history and the administrator would not see any reason not to do so. I do not see any reason why another user would judge you differently based on the fact that you were previously given autopatrol. Users with autopatrol still have their uploads reviewed for things such as categorization and the upload wizard still applies the same review templates. Edit patrolling is generally only used to find obvious problems with uploads and edits. If you want other users to more thoroughly review your edits you can make a request on the help desk or on IRC. Small request

Hi there! Would you like, by any chance, to close the deletion request for this file? It's been open for months! Thanks in advance! --Cuatro Remos (nütramyen) 03:52, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I think it was wrong to delete Eatcha's talk page completely keeping only the latest version. For the sake of transparency, user talk pages are not subject to deletion. Once it is deleted, all difflinks etc. are lost. If there are particular vandal edits that needs to be removed, these versions may be rev-deleted. But please not the entire 268 revisions of talk page of an active user. --A.Savin 13:13, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

A.Savin, I just want my email not to be visible in the diffs (Due to non-sense emails from Voldemort or anyone posing as him). I changed my email about 3-4 weeks ago you can restore up-to that point. eatcha@pm.me was my previous address that I don't use anymore, but the newer one must be kept private to prevent such non-sense emails. I didn't received any email since Voldemort left commons stating that he will take legal action or inform agencies that I did(he thinks I did, but I didn't hacked anything because I simply can't) something wrong. You both are system administrators on commons, you know how to deal with these type of situations. Do whatever is best for Commons. Thanks -- Eatcha (talk) 14:49, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

@A.Savin and Eatcha: I restored the page hiding the revision text containing the new email address. MorganKevinJ(talk) 16:40, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

OK for me, thanks. --A.Savin 00:18, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Language tagging

It's not particularly useful to add an {{en| template when there's an image description in only one language... AnonMoos (talk) 13:07, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Ok, I will avoid doing so in the future. MorganKevinJ(talk) 17:48, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Plese expain why you created the filter. It is a duplicate of Special:AbuseFilter/69 and blocking my bot from archiving COM:UDEL (CC: @Ankry: ). --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:11, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

FYI: Special:AbuseFilter/history/219/diff/prev/2084. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:15, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
There was a bug with the filter but it was fixed. I am disabling 219 since it is no longer needed MorganKevinJ(talk) 13:23, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
What you reported is a lacking match because it does not match the regex pattern, there is no need to test in production Testing the regex via https://regexr.com/ would be enough. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

abuse filter 69

Dear Morgankevinj. You have modified abuse filter 69, and it appears this leads to some false positives, e.g.: [2]. Please advise what was your intention, and pleae let me know if there is any idea how to fix that. Thank you. --Krd 17:13, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

@Krd: I adjusted the filter so that it should not tag the page if the old wikitext had an OTRS template. Let me know if there are still issues. MorganKevinJ(talk) 02:48, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
