An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Miya, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. 実際の作業に入る前に、少し時間をいただいて、次の項目を一読してくださいCommons:管理者 page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other SYSOPS, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net.

Congratulations! (As you can see Template:AdminWelcome/ja could use more translating, it's only partly done :) ) Please remember what your neutrals said. It is good advice for all admins. Commons adminship is a promise of service to the Commons community. It is not a badge or a thing that lets you tell others what to do. But I am sure you will do fine. Every best wish. If you have any questions. please ask. Also please add yourself to the proper places in Commons:List of administrators by adminship status in other Wikimedia projects ++Lar: t/c 15

Miya

Fukutaro 01:10, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--miya 01:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Vignetting… _Fukutaro 16:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons helper[edit]

Miya, could you please unblock the bot so that it can be used to transfer images from English Wikipedia. The problem with Asian characters is a known bug, anyway. Kelly 17:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked. Hy Miya. This is not a bot, despite its name. This account is a tool for all wikimedian users to upload pictures from other projects. As discussed already several times, most of the transfers are ok, but some users don't understand the Commons rules and upload problematic pictures. But they would do it with or without that account and it's not this accounts fault. This way we at least get proper descriptions to help figure out where the picture comes from. There are always a few users checking the uploads done through this account. So please don't block it anymore. -- Cecil 18:24, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You mean it is not a bot but a "shared account" ?
I saw its userpage but couldn't find enough information.
If "the problem with Asian characters is a known bug", why there is no warning in its userpage such as "don't use this account when you upload files with description written in Asian characters" or like?--miya 22:59, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a warning on the script page here (ja version here) about asian characters. Kelly 15:11, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well... I see "Move-to-commons assistant" is a good idea. Then why is "User name" optional? If "User name" were "must", you could check who are doing troublesome uploads and stop them or tell them to fix the garbled descriptions.
And can you put the link to "the script page " in User:File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske)? - that might reduce upset people rushing to Magnus Manske's talk page.--miya 02:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's optional, because it is not possible to check if it is the truth. Tools on the toolserver have no possibility to verify identities. -- Cecil 03:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... Although "it is not possible to check if it is the truth", it would be helpful to some extent - at least in cases the "User name" are true, you'll be able to advise them what they should or should not do.
As to "Tools on the toolserver have no possibility to verify identities" - isn't it possible to make a link to the tool which add the user's sign automatically when a user click the link and use the tool? --miya 04:53, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

deprecated function in your monobook.js[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was given your name as a native speaker of Japanese and an administrator here.

I tend to hand type most of the categories I add to things, or paste them from other lists (not using upload software). One day it occurred to me that I was having to search to find Kyūshū and Honsū here (because I do not know the keyboard combination to make these special characters) and I was doing this for reasons that were not that the word is written with the Japanese characters.

Personally, my opinion and my experience with what frustrates me more and less, since I am searching to paste these characters I would rather be doing this with the actual Japanese character set and perhaps eventually I would be able to recognize the letters (no promises there, I am old and overly familiar with my native 26 character alphabet). I don't really care for a non-real character set and am starting to resent the fact that I am using it. This is all my opinion and the lazy person who shares my chair here would prefer that the name be written with the 26 characters I am familiar with.

That is all my opinion, the important thing though is an opinion from a native Japanese user where I mentioned the problem Commons:Village_pump#Category:Ky.C5.ABsh.C5.AB. Can you join in the discussion there? -- carol (talk) 18:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well...I think COM:VP/Ja may be a better place to ask.
As for me I don't care whether it is Kyushu or Kyūshū. I slightly prefer Kyushu, because it is easier to type. That's all.
Even in Commons there are confusions here and there - for example, Kamikochi, Japan (上高地日本) can be written as "Kamikōchi, Japan" like en:Kamikōchi but is not. Category:Kamikochi is not "Category:Kamikōchi". Category:Kochi prefecture is not "Category:Kōchi prefecture", etc.--miya (talk) 01:29, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am so unfamiliar with Japan. One of the worst things I saw was an argument among translators for a different project. It was about English and which version of punctuation to use. When these kinds of arguments were happening where I could see it, they were at a stand-off about which dictionary to use or something like this. It was sad and it only involved a few people and the important translations were not about English, the documentation already was mostly in this language, by real people who had learned enough about punctuation to express themselves in that language already. My opinion is still that if I need to learn characters that are not of the ascii set, then I would rather learn the characters that people actually use to communicate with, in this case the Japanese characters. Just having it be Kyushu suits me just fine.
In summary, if you can agree that I do not know enough about Japan to make a decision but I do know enough about stupid arguments to know a problem -- I think we agree on most other points and if you decided that these names should change, I can spend time making that happen to whatever names you suggest.
Thank you for your consideration of this. -- carol (talk) 03:30, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POTY Galleries[edit]

Hi Miya. I'm quite busy right now in real life. If no one else does it, I'll probably have time to arrange the POTY galleries in early January ( so I would do September-December in one big lump). But if you feel like taking care of it, by all means go ahead! It would be very helpful, and could help put momentum in the project, which needs some desperately. I'm sorry I can't be of more help at present - I just have too many deadlines piling up. Cheers, Pruneautalk 18:07, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--Tail furry (talk) 03:39, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--miya (talk) 07:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

removing of the vote[edit]

Hi Miya,
First of all I'd like to thank you for all great work you've done for POTY.
I'd like to ask you please about removing IP vote here. The thing is that almost every votelist has some IP votes as you could see here for example. In some cases users do not have accounts on Commons, in other cases they might have forgotten they have one. IMO we should either remove all IP votes from all votelists or leave them all alone. I believe it will be wise to leave them alone as long as IP address location and the user country are the same. Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 13:41, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mbz1. I had mistook "User_A1" for "Al Maghi", who commented there just after. If "User_A1" is not "Al Maghi", well... it may be better to remove IP's vote. Now I reverted my edit. Thank you for informing me!--miya (talk) 14:23, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

poty2009 ip votes[edit]

hi; a matter has come to my attention re: ip votes & consistency of policy. in talking with Martin_H. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Martin_H. it appears that he did not contact the IP voters on the vote pages he worked on; i'm assuming that probably means they have not been contacted. this is a concern, particularly for these pictures:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2008/Finalists/File:Fire_breathing_2_Luc_Viatour.jpg

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2008/Finalists/File:Locomotives-Roundhouse2.jpg

i haven't gone thru all the pics he did vote confirmation on, i'm not sure if any of the rankings would change, but the vote counts for these 2 pictures (top 4) could potentially be different. the locomotive roundhouse pic has one ip vote left & no idea if they were contacted or not, the fireeater has 3. i don't have time to follow-up on this, nor am i on the poty committee, but i thought it should come to your attention, since you were one of the people who has been pro-active in confirming IP votes. sorry, if i'm making more work for you! I'm afraid she might take her ja:WP user page as a personal website (even on WP she contributes mainly on her user page). Regards, --Eusebius (talk) 08:32, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ja:User:Erina ozawa seems to claim herself as ja:小澤絵理菜(Ozawa Erina), but Ja people think her edits to be a spoofing and personal attack to the real ja:小澤絵理菜(Ozawa Erina) and have requested a deletion of that userpage.
I think all the files User:Erina ozawa uploaded should be deleted as out of Project Scope (maybe copyvio, too).--miya (talk) 09:25, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll block the account and file a mass deletion request. Thanks for your input. --Eusebius (talk) 09:29, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--Tail furry (talk) 11:34, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--miya (talk) 20:33, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
--Tail furry (talk) 03:06, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese copyright issue[edit]

If you have any experience with Japanese copyright perhaps you could contribute to the discussion at: Commons:Deletion requests/Images of Carpkazu‎ which concerns the copyright of Japanese stamps that are less than 50 years old. You want to look at some more details I posted on the copyright talk page. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 14:47, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ww2censor. The discussion going on in the Deletion request page is so complicated that none of them (nor I) can fully translate it into a foreign language. Please wait a little more so that we can make some consensus about the copyright of Japanese stamps.--miya (talk) 11:49, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know what you think a little later. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 15:52, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No-penis stuff, with labels in Japanese[edit]

Hi. Would you care to have a look at the uploads of User:Tamura333, which has uploaded nothing but pictures of his sex and has been warned about no-penis stuff (i.e. "thank you but we already have a lot of them and yours doesn't bring something new blah blah blah")? Understanding of the Japanese language is probably needed to decide whether the labeled version is more educational than our existing corpus... Thanks in advance if you can handle that, or point that to another Japanese-speaking trusted user if you don't to deal with such stuff. Regards, --Eusebius (talk) 19:37, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

POTY 2007[edit]

Hello, Miya. I wonder, if votes with the user names are available to see somewhere for round 1 in POTY 2007. I believe I read somewhere those votes were going to be published in the end, but I do not think they ever were. Why? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:08, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mbz1. I think I saw in the page you can find the links in Commons:Picture of the Year/2007/Voting#Results (though now they don't work). You can also find links in Commons:Picture of the Year/2007/Results--miya (talk) 01:36, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Miya, it is not what I am looking for. Can I see somewhere, if a particular user voted for a particular image? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 01:48, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
SOrry I don't know that. The core members of POTY2007 may know.--miya (talk) 06:17, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Miya,

you created this template, but it is used in only one page. Is it possible to substitute it and than delete it or does it need to be kept? Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 09:50, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Cwbm. I created that template but gave up using it. As it is not necessary any more, I deleted it. Thank you for notifying me.--miya (talk) 13:04, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Miya様 始めまして、Tabo1224です。メッセージを頂きまして有難うございました。ライセンスの種類が、当方からコモンズへ送られたものと、許諾を出したアーティストピアノサービス社の文面とが食い違っているとの事でしたので、再度、同社からライセンスの種類を一致させたものを発行して頂きました。既に、メールでその内容は送付済みですが、これで問題ないでしょうか?お手数をお掛けいたしますが、何卒よろしくお願いいたします。?--Tabo1224 (talk)14:04, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

May I email you about the 日本の県旗? User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 02:25, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure - though I'm not sure whether I can be much help. :) --miya (talk) 08:22, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is about the copyright of the flags. They should be public domain due to http://www.cric.or.jp/cric_e/clj/cl2_1.html#cl2_1+S1 Yet, users do not think so. What can we do? User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 08:23, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Some flags may be too simple to be protected its copyright. But others may not, I'm afraid. How about asking this question in COM:VP/Ja?--miya (talk) 07:15, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

help request[edit]

hello, can you please tell me if this [1] image is aloud to be uploaded to commons? מתניה (talk) 07:09, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I'm he-0. Please ask your question in Village pump or somewhere.--miya (talk) 07:15, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can describe what's in the image. It's a screenshot of microsoft word Auto-text feature, the user typed a word and the software gives him an option of what he have might want the next word to be. מתניה (talk) 07:31, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And yet I don't say it whether good or bad, because I'm not familiar to what microsoft would say. Please try COM:VP or channel.--miya (talk) 07:38, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

POTY[edit]

Hi Miya. I saw your note on Kanonkas' talk page, and I was wondering if I could help. I could create the subpages with AWB fairly easily, unless there's a manual component to the template? –Juliancolton | Talk 02:19, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Juliancolton. As I wrote Commons:Picture of the Year/2009/Preparation#Request for help:making votepages, what is necessary is to subst the template as:
{{subst:2009POTY/Votepage}}
to the red link in the index pages:
Index : 1-50, 51-100, 101-150, 151-200, 201-250, 251-300, 301-350, 351-400, 401-450, 451-500, 501-550, 551-600, 601-650, 651-700, 701-750, 751-800, 801-850, 851-
I sincerely hope it will work.--miya (talk) 14:45, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think most of them are done. Best regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 15:46, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

tail_furryです。 --Tail furry (talk) 11:27, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--miya (talk) 05:22, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
--Tail furry (talk) 10:29, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year/2009[edit]

Is this still on? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:50, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mbz1. As I was busy this Spring as well as had a dull pain in my eyes (that made it hard for me to read a long discussion in English), I felt timid to start the contest. But - well - better late than never? do you like to start it?--miya (talk) 09:37, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, you were sick. Me to start it? I have no idea what should I do. Care to explain?--Mbz1 (talk) 13:40, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind - now I feel better. Is "Prefiltering prior to R1" is not needed now? Then how about proposing "Let's open R1 from when to when" (May 1 to May 8, for example) at the bottom of Commons:Picture of the Year/2009/Preparation and asking if anyone might have a better plan. If there is no "Vote processing system" available this time, well, we have to do our best by hands. It may take time, I hope it can be done by the time of Wikimania 2010. --miya (talk) 23:08, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since most of the galleries and templates are ready, I don't have an issue with simply allowing voting to start whenever possible. Votes at Meta do fine with manual eligibility-checking, so I think we could pull it off if we can't get a more formal system in place. –Juliancolton | Talk 00:22, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SecurePoll[edit]

I think we should use SecurePoll. Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 13:50, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SecurePoll sounds hopeful - though I don't know how to use extentions. Do you know how to arrange this extention or anyone who can help us to use it?
And one more point:can this extetion be applied to the poll with hundreds of candidates? Well, at least, it may be applied to the Final round.--miya (talk) 16:16, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. SecurePoll should only be used for very sensitive matters – otherwise we have a wiki to edit for other polls. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:42, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why? We can probably have a usual public vote (who vote for what, etc). What do you mean by another wiki? I don't have much experience with SecurePoll, so sorry for any confusion I may have. Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 20:05, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I mean the wiki (Commons) is a perfectly good place to vote on things, and I don't like to hide things using special voting systems unless absolutely necessary. –Juliancolton | Talk 13:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why would it be hidden? I'm pretty sure we can configure it to be public. I'll ask TStarling (just so we're sure). As I said above, we'd probably have a usual public poll. We'll even get more ease and structure on the process. Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 10:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The purpose of SecurePoll is to be hidden, and, well, secure. And only a few people are allowed to check the votes. (Sorry for taking over your talk page, Miya.) –Juliancolton | Talk 12:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind at all. If it is easier to discuss here than in the preparation page, please go on. :-) --miya (talk) 16:15, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
SecurePoll for the Final

If we check the Final vote manually, it may take a lot of time before publishing the Final result - so much time that people might lose interests in the POTY result. So, I wish (maybe) Kanonkas (and Juliancolton as well?) will ask Tim to create votes for POTY and try whether it can be really applicable. --miya (talk) 16:15, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tim's reply[edit]

I wikimailed to Tim Starling adn asked whether we can use SecurePoll for POTY. He kindly replied that

  • We can use it for the final round. There's no interface for dealing with large lists of candidates, so it would be rather tedious to use it for the initial round.
  • To use SecurePoll we'll have to ask Tim to create votes for POTY.

--miya (talk) 00:36, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now I posted my proposal to Commons:Picture of the Year/2009/Preparation. --miya (talk) 08:18, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 10:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Kanonkas. I wish we could try SecurePoll in the Final, but don't know much about its system. Will you ask Tim Starling to create votes for POTY (setup interface) and make a sample page to show how it works? --miya (talk) 01:55, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ticket 2010031910005337[edit]

Hi, would you care to move the ticket to a permission queue please? Thanks in advance. --Eusebius (talk) 08:24, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the Ticket 2010031910005337 to a permission queue. If something wrong, please tell me so. Thank you.--miya (talk) 08:34, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I find the copyright claim very doubtful, as in maaaaany other OTRS tickets, but I rely only on automatic translation and I don't have all information about the case, so... Thanks anyway. --Eusebius (talk) 08:55, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Little help[edit]

Hello, could you please help me in communicating with the Japanese speaking user because I am stuck with the google translator. User_talk:Justass#File:タイキバカラ.jpg was taken from http://oumanoshasin.com/ and I asked for permission. User responded that he/she forwarded it to OTRS, but second message on my talk page is rather difficult to understand and I am unsure what is it about --Justass (talk) 07:38, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I explained the situation to the user. The author of the image licensed it with cc-by-sa-ja 2.1 (written in the webpage). I hope it will work well.--miya (talk) 16:53, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid that my involvement in the preparation was only "to push":) No I do not deserve your "thank you", Miya, but I do like to thank Julian, who's done a great work!--Mbz1 (talk) 13:57, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you from me too! --Brackenheim (talk) 16:52, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

POTY[edit]

I think it's just too bad that readers can not download the images from here. Plus, I was wondering whether in the future we'll have a real Commons POTY contest with pictures taken from the users (not from Nasa, Flickr and so on). If not we'd better promote POTY everywhere as "send us your photo with a free license, you may win our POTY contest", which could attract photographers to our project. :) --Elitre (talk) 10:39, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Elitre. I don't know how to prepare image-download files. Plus I can't imagein how to make a real Commons POTY contest, for FP people don't seem to consider whether an image come from NASA or is taken by a Wikimedian. You should say your ideas in POTY discussion page :) --miya (talk) 15:54, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why do u mark this picture allready as picture of the day if there doesent't exist a page for 2011?--Sanandros (talk) 09:30, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sandros. Today I made files POTD for the first time. As Instructions page says "Try to find a date which has some connection to the picture", I tried to include the file to next year date (though I couldn't find POTD of 2011). Should I include it to 2010's? Or should I create 2011 pages now? I'd be grateful for your advice.--miya (talk) 10:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]
Would be better if we could use the 23rd March of 2010 ;) but that's too late, so it would be better to do the pages for 2011. I justed aksed cause I wanted to ad other languages...--Sanandros (talk) 14:39, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage of POTY[edit]

Hi Miya. Would you be interested in getting POTY featured in the 21 June edition of the Signpost?--Nilotpal42 (talk) 19:17, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you! I'll hurry to release the Final result. :)--miya (talk) 02:42, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've put together some interview questions here. Please answer them and feel free to invite your fellow organisers. I shall also write an introduction section that will include the results.--Nilotpal42 (talk) 04:44, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I read the interview question...they are a little tough for me to answer all - because my English (or Globish, rather) is very limited. So I invited fellow organisers to fill them, today. --miya (talk) 07:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
any other wiki project?
Just like Wikimedia Commons are multi-lingual, the organizing team (the Committee) is also very international. As you see here, there are native speakes of no, ja, ko, ar, fi,de,ru, cs as wel as en in the team. Some people are more active in their native language (like Kwj2772, MGA73, Kaganer,Miya, Jklamo...), some have more edits in enwp or meta than in their native lang wikis (like Kanonkas or The Evil IP address). There are also native en speaker active in enwp (like Juliancolton orLx 121), too.
What role does the Photo of the Year contest play in Wikimedia Commons?
POTY selected from FPs in each year plays as the representative - the symbol - the top page of a huge site, the Wikimedia commons, selected by its members (including all the wikimedians).
FPs in Commons are so wonderful! and POTY contest is a good chance to show them and let people find how wonderful the Commons contents are (especially FPs) attracting new people to Commons.
Did you face any hurdles?
- yes, the checking process.
In POTY2006 there are about 300 candidates.
In POTY2007 there were about 500 FPs as the candidate for POTY, and a special voting software was prepared thanks to the core members of the organizing Committee then.
In POTY2008 there were about 500 FPs but the voting software could not be prepared. As the result checking votes mannually became a hard work.
In POTY2009, this time, nearly 900 candidates and no software, either. It was proposed to wait and see if any software would be available - in vain.
Checking of hundres of votes manually without any software must be a really hard work! A member of organizing team proposed to use mw:Extention:SecurePoll but that was too late to adjust the rules, besides the SecurePoll doesn't support images. At last we got to start the contest without a voting software.
Of course the voter eligibility checking tool by Pathoschild was A REALLYL GREAT HELP! Many thanks to him/her! If only we could have compiled it to be automatically checking tool...!
for the future of the competition?
Not sure. It depends whether we can get any better organizing system in the future. Yet we believe POTY is expected to be continued in some way or other. Why? Don't you like to know which will be the POTY of all the FPs every year after all?
Thanks for those answers. It would be better if you could answer #1 as the answer will be different for different organiser.--Nilotpal42 11:36, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added #1 answer. As I'm en-2, please fix my english if you find any mistakes in my comments. Thanks.--miya (talk) 14:22, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Thanks.--Nilotpal42
