Today I see an edit to en:Sylvester–Gallai theorem: "CommonsDelinker (Talk | contribs | block) (Removing "Sylvester-Gallai_theorem.png", it has been deleted from Commons by Mardetanha because: In category Unknown as of 12 August 2008; not edited for 13 days.)"

This deletion was very unhelpful of you. Much more helpful would have been to add it to an appropriate category (e.g., Category:Lines and points). If that is too difficult, could you at least check where the images you delete are used over on en and leave a note on the talk page of the articles there warning of the impending deletion, long enough in advance that someone else can fix the category?

No, I see that now. It was deleted based on the failure of an image uploaded in 2005 to meet the metadata standards of 2008, and the failure of an uploader who hasn't logged in in the past eight months to respond to notice within less than two weeks. Is there any reason to doubt that the image was self-made by the uploader? I'm not sure why images are deleted like this, but can you please restore this image. It would have been one I moved from WP, perhaps forgetting to categorize it or something like that. Hello, I see you deleted the source code for a map overlay I'd just created (Image:Clarks Hill, Indiana 1878.png/overlay.kml), just seconds after I'd saved it. Was there a reason for this? Deletion of Image:Mads Mikkelsen, November 2006.jpg

Hello Mardetanha,

I'm a little bit commiserate about the deletion, because a new film of Mikkelsen started in Germany these days and so there are more page views for the article (in the most WPs the picture is still linked). Is it possible to get it back? It was a derivative work, created by the mentioned flickr-member, who put it under the creative commons license. I've only revised the pic. Unfortunateley it seems that the user has left the project and has also shut down his account at flickr but the images Mads Mikkelsen and fans 3.jpg and Mads Mikkelsen and fans 3 crop.jpg are from the same photo series and should give a hint, that the pictures were published under a free license. Well, in the meantime I've found [[:Image:Mads Mikkelsen (2008 revised).jpg another pic]} of Mikkelsen (he looks a little bit crabby there, what else?) and replaced the pics. Category:Unknown - No timestamp given

Please be careful when cleaning up this category. Many files are not unknown at all, but are in the category only because a transwiki bot generates wrong tags. See this explanation. I have restored some of the files you deleted on August 24 from that category. Lupo 10:09, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

(Zur einfacherer Verständigung und Bitte von Mardetanha auf Deutsch:) Das Bild musste leider nach achttägiger Besprechung gelöscht werden, da die Angabe der Quelle: „scan of an old photo“ leider nicht ausreichend ist. Du kannst das Bild noch einmal hochladen, die Angabe der Quelle, also woher das Bild stammt (Buch, Zeitschrift, Photoalbum etc.), und des Photographen sollten aber noch präziser und eindeutiger sein, sodass das Bild nicht noch einmal gelöscht werden kann. Dear Mardetanha, I don't understand why this picture is removed. After others stated that not enough information was given, I added the the translated text from the website, which is in Dutch, that all pictures of politicians are licence free. Seeing HEPI_with_United_Nations_-_1998.png deleted as well (also needs undeleting) made me curious, so I checked the category and saw Image:Nosaiba bint Kaab school for girls - Ahmed Khadr.png there (uploaded all three at the same time) -- and I see that the OTRS ticket didn't wipe away the "Unknown" tag. Nevermind, I reverted and blocked CommonsDelinker for 12 hours to stop its stupidity. Please restore all deleted maps where the name format is Map_of_USA_<statecode>.svg where <statecode> is a 2-character code. These were generated using free software and from freely available data sources.
