You are correct; the image at English Wikipedia lacks proof of permission, because its license on Flickr has a non-commercial clause, which is incompatible with Wikimedia projects.

IMO the American Dad logo is creative enough to cause sufficient doubt to warrant deletion. This was found to be copyrightable in the US. Regardless, the television in the Family Guy logo makes it more complex than the one you kept, so there isn't necessarily a contradiction here. Note that page 1 of the PDF file contains two logos: "CCC LOGO" (File:CarCreditCity(SVG).svg) which is below the threshold of originality and "CAR CREDIT CITY LOGO" (similar but with an extra border and with the words "CAR CREDIT CITY" above) which is above the threshold of originality.
If you find a suspiciously complex logo, you could search for it at [1]. If you find a registration for the logo, then you know that the opinion of the copyright office is that the logo is copyrighted. If you don't find any registration, then you don't know anything as it isn't mandatory to register a logo in the first place. --Stefan4 (talk) 17:55, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
@Hedwig: Commons has had a problem with keeping logos over the threshold in their home nations for a while now. It's partly because a disproportionate number of regular Commons users come from continental Germanic nations, which have a high threshold, and they have trouble extending that to foreign copyrights; it's also partly because users hate to see their images deleted, and as such have a vested interest in them being kept. It's something I've been fighting with little success; I simply don't have the time and resources to nominate every bad logo on Commons. Regardless, keep me informed. How to do deletion request -- speedy or not?

Did I do these right? Or should I have used a "speedy" template that now I've come across?

The images seem to me clear violations, so should I not clutter up the Deletion requests queue?

It's always a judgment call whether you use DR or mark it as speedy deletion. If you're 100% sure it's a copyright violation, then you mark it as speedy; if you have any doubt, then you go with DR. You did fine with the DR this time.
Also, if you're doing a lot at once that should be deleted for the same reason, you can go through Commons:Deletion requests/Mass deletion request. That's the "proper" way to do things, but honestly if it's less than about 10, a lot of users (including me) will just go with the script which lists them separately, because it's easier. "User Orrling of Haifa.jpg" to "Orrling.jpg" can't move back

Hello. I just saw you were performing some admin functions earlier and I need assistance in a strange problem, check the file in the title: another user now recently has moved it to a different filename whereas I, would like to actually retain the original name, as the file's uploader; and am not happy with the unreasoned renaming altogether. So I left a message down the mover's page, expecting it would be respected. However, 4 days on - it has not been attended, and so I tried to use my own mover's permission but sadly somehow I appear to fail in completing that move back to the old name. Deletion requests related to File:WMMS-HD2, W256BT logo.png

Hello. Should these files be deleted from the Commons? I opened a discussion at WP:NFCR thinking File:WMMS-HD2, W256BT logo.png, a similar logo, likely qualified as PD-TEXT. However, the resulting consensus was that the "99X" file did not qualify as free. Based on the growing consensus at the NFCR, I requested deletion for these logos below. However, Jameslwoodward (another Commons admin) decided to keep these logos. The whole issue seems to center around one's interpretation of the phrase "mere typographic ornamentation". I do not upload files if I have any doubt whatsoever that a court could find in favor of the company; this seems like common sense for a number of reasons for me. Other users prefer to push the envelope; I cannot stop them from doing so, and I would be constrained by the community even if I tried. What's more, if I advise you to upload content, and then the company objects, then I could be on the hook legally. So unless a case is a thousand and one percent obvious, I will probably not recommend that you upload it (unless I have some other reason which supersedes my above concerns). Hola. Hay tres distintas situaciones en que puedes subir un archivo a Commons:
  • Si hay una foto que sacaste.
  • Si hay una foto que otra persona sacó y ya liberó los derechos. Para varias fuentes, véte Commons:Free media resources/Photography. En mi opinión, la fuente más importante para estas fotos es Flickr. No todas las fotos de Flickr son libres, pero algunos sí lo son; puedes subirlas usando User:Flickr upload bot.
  • Si hay una foto que encuentras en el internet, y te parece probable que la persona que la sacó sería disponible a acceder, puedes enviarle un email y pedir su permiso. Necesitarías pedir más que «¿se puede usar en Wikipedia?»; en vez de esto, sigue la instrucciones aquí (para los anglohablantes) o aquí (para los hispanohablantes).

These texts are his own quotes that I have permission to collect for his upcoming wiki page. I'll see him today and have him notified. What should I do with this category situation?

Hello,

I was working on Category:Miran when I discovered a smaller category Category:Miran (China). Since it had only a few images in it, and since the enwiki commonscat went to Category:Miran, I emptied Category:Miran (China) into Category:Miran.

The image was deleted in a discussion here: w:Special:PermanentLink/36145629. The old version of the file appears to have been lost; it is no longer in the deleted history. I read something somewhere once that this happened to old versions of very old files due to a server crash (see also Template:Version lost); I do not know if the original is recoverable. Yes. I disabled it because it's adding literally thousands of images which are unrelated to equestrian sports. As stated at User talk:OgreBot/gallery, I will do this if it looks like it's adding too many files. I can certainly readd the service, but you will need to let me remove some subcategories. I understand what you mean. But the problem was two categories, which were definitely in the wrong category. Category:Horsewomen and Category:Horsemen (with subcategories like "Mounted police in Chile‎", "Knights in art‎" or "Friedrich Wilhelm I of Brandenburg‎") was part of part of the "Category:Equestrians" before. I have changed them to "Category:Riders". Now the "Category:Equestrians" is only for sportspeople who ride horses, as it is already at en:Category:Equestrians or de:Kategorie:Pferdesportler. --Nordlicht8 (talk) 14:37, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of my COMAND display picture

Also, English Wikipedia in particular has a narrow set of exceptions where they allow fair use, which Commons doesn't allow, so you might be thinking of those images. Finally, there are some copyright violations on Commons, granted, but that is simply because we are short-staffed on upload patrollers. If we come across them, we delete them. FWIW, I agree completely that it's a pity. It would have been nice if he simply could have acknowledged "oops, I guess these people have more experience in copyright, and I was wrong. Life sucks, but you don't always get what you want" instead of refusing to listen to logic and going on a multiproject tear in a misguided effort to prove a point and punish everyone for refusing to accede. Regardless, the image would not have qualified as fair use on English Wikipedia, and probably not on any other wikis either (although honestly some wikis are notably worse at enforcing their fair use rules than others). Actually, I hadn't realized it was illustrating the software in question. I thought it was just being used in an article about the vehicle. We might see some blowback (IMO, many English Wikipedia editors are consistently overzealous about enforcing w:WP:NFCC#8), but I think it just might work as fair use. However, I'm not entirely sure I'd want to undelete the guy's picture anymore and use it again; he seems to want his pictures to stay deleted, and he has already threatened to take me to court. @Darkweasel94:: the NOINDEX is ✓ Done. The answer for those questions: yes, it would be doable, but it would need a substantial rewrite. Right now, the bot only looks at new files uploaded. Problem with category

Hello,

I listed Category:Burj Khalifa fountain at Commons:Categories for discussion/2013/11. Hope I did it the right way. I created the category according to the article history, and I was completely wrong. There is already Category:The Dubai Fountain which correctly includes fountain images. This one contains only images of persons that are in a great number of other categories. Hello. We still have two problems with the file: 1) was it originally published in Argentina? and 2) The item appears to be non-free in the US. Per Commons:Hirtle Chart, images from Argentina must have been published prior to 1976 to be free in the US, where they must be according to Commons policy. If you cannot use TUSC for whatever reason, could you please at least use the tool to generate the upload text? The text you're generating right now has been incorrect - it doesn't always properly attribute the author, it's usually giving the wrong license, and it is leaving out the upload log which is useful for tracking the image. The go back and look at the images and the explanation I wrote. I specifically wrote the phrase "All rights REVERSED", not "All rights RESERVED".

REVERSED: verb, past tense: reversed; past participle: reversed. move backward. "the truck reversed into the back of a bus" synonyms: back, back up, drive back/backward, move back/backward

The word "reversed" has a totally different meaning than the word you mistook it for, "reserved":

RESERVED: adjective, 1. slow to reveal emotion or opinions. "he is a reserved, almost taciturn man" synonyms: reticent, quiet, private, uncommunicative, unforthcoming, undemonstrative, unsociable, formal, constrained, cool, aloof, detached, distant, remote, unapproachable, unfriendly, withdrawn, secretive, silent, taciturn; 2. kept specially for a particular purpose or person. "a reserved seat" synonyms: booked, taken, spoken for, prearranged;

And "the artist" in question is ME. Did you not read the explanation I wrote, that explained quite clearly that I stuck the sticker on the envelope, and that I drew on the envelope? I am the artist in question, who originally created the artwork on the envelope that I sent to Richard Stallman years ago, and that I more recently scanned and uploaded. I already explained that, but you failed to comprehend or believe it. Do you think I am a liar? What is your evidence that I am lying? Can'y you clearly read my name "Don Hopkins" and even most of my address written on the envelope?

All the sticker says is "Copyleft (L)", as you can plainly see. And "Copyleft" is NOT the same as "Copyright", in the same way that "reversed" is not the same as "reserved".

The WORD "Copyleft" is NOT copyrighted. And the phrase "All rights reversed" does not bestow a copyright. In fact it means exactly the OPPOSITE of that. Does the irony of mistakenly claiming that a scan of a "Copyleft" sticker is copyrighted totally escape you? Do you see how totally ridiculous your mistake is? Do you hear a "WHOOSHING" sound? That is the sound of you totally missing the point.

It is a joke, get it??? The phrase "All rights reversed" is commonly used after the term "Copyleft". I guess you have never heard of Richard Stallman or Project Gnu or the Free Software Foundation or Copyleft or anything that the image is about or that I wrote about in the explanation of the rights that I wrote, because all of that went totally over your head. WHOOSH.

So please restore the file, or offer some proof that I am lying.

And some more information, if you have a problem getting your head around the fact that "All rights reversed" does not mean "All rights reserved". There is an apt analogy to the difference between "All rights reserved" and "All rights reversed", and the copyright symbol with a forwards (c), and a reversed (ↄ). The point is that "reversed" means "the opposite of", so using a "reversed" word or symbol does NOT mean the same thing as using the forward word of symbol. Stallman explains this in his article about copyleft: 

  It is a legal mistake to use a backwards C in a circle instead of a copyright symbol. 
  Copyleft is based legally on copyright, so the work should have a copyright notice. 
  A copyright notice requires either the copyright symbol (a C in a circle) or the 
  word “Copyright”.
  
  A backwards C in a circle has no special legal significance, so it doesn't make a 
  copyright notice. It may be amusing in book covers, posters, and such, but be 
  careful how you represent it in a web page!

In the exact same sense, and for the exact same reason, the phrase "All rights reversed" has no special legal significance, so it doesn't make a copyright notice. Do you get it now? The fact that you LITERALLY COPIED AND PASTED THE PHRASE "All rights reversed" into your illegitimate deletion justification, without bothering to actually read it or understand its significance was quite NEGLIGENT of you, and extremely IRONIC.

So in the future, please pay more attention to what you are doing, when you're engaging in your frequent frenzies of mass file deletions. And also, please take the time to CAREFULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND the justifications that people write when they upload the files, because obviously you ignored or did not comprehend mine, and still didn't believe what I wrote after I explained it to you. If you don't understand something, then for god's sake, just look it up. You know how to use Wikipedia. This is a scan of the original "Copyleft (L)" sticker from an envelope that I (Don Hopkins) drew on and mailed to Richard Stallman in 1984.

It inspired Richard Stallman to use the term Copyleft for the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License GNU General Public License.

In his Stallman description of Project GNU, Stallman wrote: In 1984 or 1985, Don Hopkins (a very imaginative fellow) mailed me a letter. On the envelope he had written several amusing sayings, including this one: “Copyleft—all rights reversed.” I used the word “copyleft” to name the distribution concept I was developing at the time.

The envelope contained a 68000 manual that Richard lent to me while I was visiting Tech Square at MIT. I bought the sticker in the dealer's room of some random east coast science fiction convention (which RMS also frequented, as Eric S Raymond describes in his biography of RMS).

A couple of years after I mailed the envelope, RMS sent me this email telling me that he figured out what a copyleft is:

  I figured out what a copyleft is.
  It's the sort of thing that I put on GNU software and manuals.

He then later used the term Copyleft when he wrote the GNU General Public License in 1989, and described it in his article: What is Copyleft?

I am both disappointed and relieved that St IGNUcius didn't incorporate anything else from that envelope into the mythology of his Free Software Religion, the Church of Emacs.

Ironically, this picture was originally removed from wiki commons in a negligent mass file deletion performed by Magog the Ogre, when he literally copied and pasted the phrase "All rights reversed" as the justification for removing it due to copyright violation, without bothering to actually read it, completely unaware of the irony or foolishness of his actions.

I (Don Hopkins) am the original author of this work. I drew the words and artwork on the envelope, and stuck the sticker on the envelope, and mailed it to Richard Stallman myself. The "Copyleft (L)" sticker is NOT copyrighted, by definition. Neither the sticker nor the envelope contains the words "All rights reversed". That phrase is commonly used by Stallman and others in the context of copyleft, but it appears nowhere on the original content. I added it to the comments of the file because it was funny, and it explicitly meant that the content was NOT copyrighted, and all rights were NOT reserved. So I request that other editors do not remove this because they are too lazy to actually read the copyright information that I provided as requested.

I see that you have also deleted the text I added . I do work for Moorcroft (and can therefore give permission on our image and content)and we find our Wikipedia page particularly out of date. There is no mention of our current business or much after the 1980's and some of the historical facts are incorrect.I hope you appreciate this can be very detrimental to our business and I would very much like to alter the text with your help.

It is indeed the poster of a movie documentary called "Unsupersize Me" directed by Juan Carlos Asse. Mr. Asse is also the owner of the Web site http://www.unsupersizeme.com where this picture is located.

As I am creating a page about this documentary, I have explicitly asked Mr. Asse to grant me a written permission to upload in Wikimedia Commons and use this poster on Wikipedia. To this effect, Mr. Asse have used the official Wikipedia form for this purpose. Therefore, I have sent the completed and signed form of Mr. Asse to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org as requested by Wikipedia.

Therefore, I would like you to please double-check with the person in charge of this end (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). If you wish to receive personally a copy of the signed permission of Mr. Asse, please let me know by providing me with an address at Kone.Mamadou@gmail.com
