File:Rákóczi 1. sz. barlang1.jpg and other files

Hello! The File:Rákóczi 1. sz. barlang1.jpg and other files in Category:Rákóczi No. 1. Cave was and is OTRS number. The ticket number is: 2011072110013038.--Szenti Tamás (talk) 10:58, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

OK? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 11:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Favour with dupes

With further duplicate requests, it would be appreciated if you would be able to leave the contents of the file intact, and to just add the template. It makes things a little easier when evaluating. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:38, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

OK. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:26, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Magog the Ogre. I wanted you to look at me, please, if your website of the file title really cue posting files to other sites, and if necessary, delete the file. Thanks. Ângulo ótimo (talk) 17:01, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

It looks like someone already answered your question. Parece que alguien ya contestó tu pregunta. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:26, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

False

Please, see the file history and remove the statement from my talk page. Its embarassing for me. Im not the uploader, I simply improved resolution. Another time please be more carefull, all my uploads have the appropiate license.--Vagrand (talk) 21:49, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

That message is automatically generated by the script used on Commons when a user clicks on "no permission", like I did. Commons can't tell if your improvement of the image was a new version or the original, so it sets me to notify you in every case. I'm sorry if it caused any problems, but it wasn't meant to be accusatory. You're allowed to remove the message on your own, I don't have to be the one who does it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Aviation new uploads

Hi Magog, I just noticed that there hasn't been any new additions to the aviation new uploads since 15 September. Has the bot stopped working? Cheers, russavia (talk) 03:42, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I honestly can't figure out why it's not working; the text is being properly generated. I think it might be tripping some edit filter because it's such a large addition. I'll have to post about it at the VP. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:22, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

OK thanks a lot. Perhaps I need to stop uploading for it to work, then it won't be as large an addition ;) russavia (talk) 02:40, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Actually, it looks like someone was fidgeting with the categories until Category:Categories with authority control data got put into the subcategory tree, which ended up including like half of all images uploaded to Commons. I've removed it,[1] and I'll run catchup for the bot. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:17, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, looks like we are all caught up again. Cheers, russavia (talk) 00:14, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Ogrebot output page

I was wondering, is it possible to make two Ogrebot new file dumps go to the same page? I didn't want to break the bot so I didn't tell it to, but it would be a good idea. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:32, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible. The bot will give some funny output on the index page until I fix it, but this shouldn't cause any problems other than a double listing for the new date pages. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:43, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

But it couldn't for instance do it as monitoring two categories rather than one? -mattbuck (Talk) 18:26, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Not currently, no. It wouldn't take much effort to change that though, so if you put it as an option, I'll write it into the script some day here when I have free time on my hands. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:30, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Just wondering, how were Category:Gynecology | Category:Young animals | Category:Virgin Mary | Category:Human pregnancy | Category:LGBT people | Category:Adolescent girls‎ | Category:Adolescent boys | Category:LGBT by country or territory | Category:Gay village | Category:LGBT places | Category:LGBT by country or territory | Category:Floggers | Category:Gay village | Category:LGBT film festivals | Category:Gay villages in the United States causing errors? -mattbuck (Talk) 01:46, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Because you were getting things like File:Seattle - Bullitt Center under construction 02.jpg, included because it's in a gay neighborhood, and File:Michael Urie 2012.jpg, included because he's a homosexual. Unless you wanted that kind of distraction, but it seemed pretty decently afar from actual human sexuality. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:53, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I'll keep most then. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:02, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Further question. If you say "no category X", and Y is a subcategory of X, will new stuff in Y show up? What if Y is also a subcat of Z, which is not excluded? (I know there's going to be a lot of tuning going on here). -mattbuck (Talk) 09:05, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Y will not be included unless it is also a subcat of Z, in which case it will be included. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:59, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Lost notions of time ?

File:0.10_Exhibition.jpg: 74 years back in time ? --Foroa (talk) 12:14, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

What? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:16, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
User:Foroa is probably referring to the category added by your bot: Category:Media needing categories as of 8 July 1938. The file had not yet been uploaded to Commons in 1938. --Stefan4 (talk) 12:35, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Look at the top of Special:WantedCategories: back to the future ? --Foroa (talk) 13:00, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Are any files still needing categories since 1938? I've used MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js to move lots of files to better categories. --Stefan4 (talk) 13:25, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Please use bots for such mass moves; if such a bunch is on your watchlist, you are loosing sight on everything that happened before. AS a very minimum, tag them with minor changes. --Foroa (talk) 13:54, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

The bug is now ✓ fixed. However, I'll have to run the bot over all those categories to fix the changes for the past several days. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 15:01, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Actually it looks like Stefan already got them all. That's a shame because it would have been trivial for the bot to get them. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 15:25, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I messed up the watchlist for some people when doing that... --Stefan4 (talk) 16:36, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

File deletion notices

As you may have noticed often transfer files from Wikipedia to the Commons via CommonsHelper. While it may be policy that you notify the uploader of images proposed for deletion for one reason or another, you do not need to notify me as am never the original uploader and likely won't be able to add any of the missing information. I regularly check my contribution history to see which files have not been removed from Wikipedia after moving to the commons. I appreciate your help in facilitating the incorporation of these files into the commons and the removal of files that do not have permission. Fredlyfish4 (talk) 01:20, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

I will make an effort to avoid notifying you if I see you are the uploader. The tool automatically notifies you so I'll have to do it by hand, meaning I might mess up sometimes. And thank you for the good word. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:24, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
I didn't realize you use a tool that automatically notifies me. Do whatever is faster or more efficient; the notifications aren't that much of an issue. Fredlyfish4 (talk) 01:37, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Nagyon unatkozol, vagy rossz a bot? Tambo (talk) 13:10, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello Tambo meant that your bot completely removed the escription of these images... These are transfers from huwiki and the content was valid. Please instruct the bot the "cleanup" should not mean removing authentic information completely. Thank you. I am restoring the file history for these images. Teemeah (talk) 13:53, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Um, actually that was right. It was an old image, so the uploader was not the author, nor was the upload date the date of the work, nor was the source Wikipedia. The information was completely wrong. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:40, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Moving files

Hi!
Recently i have started moving some files from en wiki to commons. I come across many files with CC-Zero or so on en wiki which are not exactly used on any articles. What do we do with such files? Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons (bot-assessed) has ~318000 files. Do we have some kind of marking where we can review and separate out files that we need not transfer to Commons? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 08:25, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

You would be better off asking User:Stefan4 or User:Kelly, who work with that category; I do very little work for Commons images unless they've already been moved by someone else. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:44, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
Sure! No problem. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:32, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

I think it may be covered by the OTRS ticket at File:Polish-Ukrainian and Polish-Soviet Wars early 1919.JPG / File:Polish-Ukrainian War - final stage.JPG, but I have no OTRS access, nor do I remember this 2007-2009 case. I trust you know where you can ask for OTRS verification, to see if this file is covered? I think I probably asked for permissions for all the maps from that work, so... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 23:00, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

I am going to quote you from the email itself, which I don't think you'll have a problem with me doing. It says this:
It appears you copypasted incorrectly, and didn't include the third map. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:12, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
Doh. I don't have access to the email correspondence and addresses, can you try to contact the owner and ask him for clarification? I think it is obvious he would be fine giving us the license, if only we were to ask. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:16, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Upon closer inspection, the author appears to have released anything that is his work as cc-by-sa-2.5 (not sure how I so easily missed that). I'll add the OTRS ticket. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:26, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

De:Benutzer:OgreBot - checking its contributions

Hi

I had left you a message regarding a problem with User:OgreBot on the German wikipedia. I just noticed that on its German-user page De:Benutzer:OgreBot -- here (3rd item) I got the info how to contact you (the owner/creator/responsibler) -- the 2nd item give you the possibility to check the work of OgreBot. It presents a history of the contributions of OgreBot -- very good idea -- at least it should. But since April 2012 no more entries are in this list, but I know that at least the transfer of this coat-of-arms-svg-file in disccussion succeeded later. I don't know why this (and probably many other contributions) of OgreBot are not listed in De:Spezial:Beiträge/OgreBot. Achim1999 (talk) 13:07, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Actually, OgreBot does not have any edits on de.wikipedia at all! It currently functions as a read-only bot. All of the edits you're seeing are imported from en.wikipedia. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:19, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

How do I get this image into the category?

Hi,

The image is File:Sohan papdi2.JPG and it belongs in Category:Sohan papdi along with the other two. There's something I'm not understanding here! Or I'm making a mistake that I don't see.

MathewTownsend (talk) 15:52, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm seeing it in that category. Perhaps you're having a page caching issue, or it took a few minutes for Mediawiki to update. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:15, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
ok, great. Hard to understand exactly how this categorization thing works! MathewTownsend (talk) 18:15, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Did you read the OTRS ticket or how to you know that the larger version is also under a free license? And if it was, then why not stay at the bigger version? Apparently every upload is questionable under the guise of cleanup around here when it's perfectly fine ... Hekerui (talk) 21:23, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

First off, the OTRS ticket just says the upload at Wikipedia has been cleared for CC0. It doesn't say which version, so I'm assuming it's the higher res version. Second, I meant to uncheck "revert to the latest version" for the bot, but I made a mistake and I was sloppy. Thirdly, sorry for "cleanup" message; that is wholly my fault, because the script tools I've created use that summary. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:22, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Urlencode

Hi Magog, what did you mean by your comment here that the page is already urlencoded when passed to the template? Does that mean I need to add urlencode in every template call like ? Currently the parameter is not urlencoded, which results in broken external links unless the caller remembers to add it by hand. Jafeluv (talk) 12:22, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that's correct: the template was written for the bots, and they still add the great majority of transclusions for this page, and they add it already URL encoded. If we introduced this change, it would break a very high portion of the 51000 transclusions which already exist. The good news is that getting the URL encoded version is easier than it sounds: just copy the page from your URL bar instead of from the page name at the top of the HTML. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:53, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Ok, I see. I hadn't considered that the change would break existing uses of the template. I'll keep that in mind. Jafeluv (talk) 13:09, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Well you wouldn't be the first one. Just look at the first discussion on the talk page. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 13:11, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Cleanup-Script

Hello Magog the Ogre
I use your JS Cleanup and I'm thrilled!
I have only one Improvement Proposal. This Line "eo:Dosiero:BodenmaisCity.jpg", which is based on the common helper scripts under description should be deleted. The Structure of the Line is always the same. Can you fix it?
Also I have a question: With which JS Code are you write cleanup using User:Magog the Ogre/cleanup.js in the Edit summary?

Sorry For my bad English. I'm a Student in a Public School and use partially Google Translater. When you understand German, I can write that in German.--Heubergen (talk) 19:10, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

The TS cleanup fixes that properly. Can you use the TS cleanup instead? And sorry I don't speak German, but I understand your Google-Translator English well enough . Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:13, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

For me, unfortunately not. Not even with the TS-scripts. The change.--Heubergen (talk) 19:34, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

It seems to be working for me. Are you referring to the text ro:Fișier:Boti.png? If not, click this link, then press cleanup TS, and tell me what the problem is with the output. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:58, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

The source of the file is the de Wikipedia. Here is a second example.--Heubergen (talk) 19:01, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

When I click it, it's not making any changes at all. Click here to see what I mean. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:31, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

To keep everything simple, I have uploaded a file only to this discussion. And I've noticed: You were right, it works with the TS. Could you solve the problem yet in the JS? The file can be found here => .--Heubergen (talk) 18:50, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Yeah probably, if I get to it. I don't like to have to duplicate code, especially because JavaScript is less capable when it comes to regular expressions, so not sure when or if I'll get to it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:39, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
✓ Done Thanks for your Help!--Heubergen (talk) 19:19, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, the image linked above is one of many, you tagged as missing permission. Unfortunately you hit quite a lot that belong to our old time stock, from the era before OTRS or other documented permissions became available, common or expected. We don't delete those old files, because then we would have to abandon all our old core images. Please do not tag images before 2008 as missing permission, unless you have doubts regarding this specific image. And I would appreciate if you would go through your latest edits and revert tags of images before 2008. TIA --h-stt !? 13:37, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I would rather not. I try to make a judgment call on pre-2008 images (actually, it's pre-late 2006, but that's another story). If the permission seems credible, I will ignore it; if, on the other hand, the uploader just says the image is from someone else and gives no indication that the person actually agreed to the license, then it is a bit more questionable. In fact, I think the image should be tagged as "no source", since just tagging a name with an image isn't sourcing it. I admit I might not have made a great judgment call on some of the images (I'm not perfect) but I think that's correct for the majority of them. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:09, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

wts vs wts-old

Perhaps it would be better to have OgreBot 2 point to the original description page on wts.wikivoyage-old.org, rather than wts.wikivoyage.org (example), since the former will be around longer? --Peter Talk 02:37, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

I will fix Original description page to handle that shortly, actually. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:15, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, I fixed that, but there are still links on the page to wikivoyage. I might set up a one-time bot-run after the conversion is complete, just because changing OgreBot2 wouldn't catch all the ones before today. Would that be acceptable to you? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:24, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Certainly, thank you for all your work ;) --Peter Talk 03:31, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Clean up, clean away

Hi Magog, did you remove the license-tag intentionally (which of course would be possibly justified because it was likely wrong)? Thanks in advance. -- Rillke(q?) 22:01, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I removed it intentionally, but I meant to readd PD-textlogo and forgot. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:44, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Reverse of "cleanup" made by OgreBot 2 on File:Detection pic savitzky Golay.svg

Hello,

OgreBot 2 made an inadequate deletion of useful information on File:Detection pic savitzky Golay.svg, with the comment (BOT) clean up of new upload.

I sometimes upload new versions of my media, without obsolescence of the information on the page. I wonder if this problem would occur everytime...

Cdang (talk) 10:24, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing it out. It appears OgreBot has a bug in it (or more specifically, PHP has a bug in it). I will attempt to fix it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

We could need some help!

Hi!

Have you noticed Commons:Wikitravel Shared transfer task force?

It seems a lot of files need to be moved/checked in a very short time.

One of the things that could be nice was if https://toolserver.org/~magog/oldver.php could work on wts.wikivoyage.org - see this discussion.

Cheers! --MGA73 (talk) 21:43, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if your tool uses HTTP or HTTPS, but note that Wikivoyage only supports HTTP. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:55, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, I've added it; it was pretty trivial. Let me know if it works: I'm not sure if I got the API URL correct. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:27, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
API: http://wts.wikivoyage.org/w/api.php
Something is wrong: I only see revision #6 here and no confirmation button. If you can fix it, try to upload all old versions and ask to include an original log. --Stefan4 (talk) 22:32, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
That's because the page dying before it can finish. Let me look into it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:33, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, I have it working, but it's not able to provide a back link to wikivoyage, because it's not supported by the WMF yet. Instead, it will just show a red link for now, like it does at File:Georgia regions map2 (ru).png. I suggest waiting a bit, or spamming your support at m:Talk:Interwiki map. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:56, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Can you also add support for fileinfo.php? I'm running a bot for updating filenames on Wikivoyage and I've found out that I often need to add an original upload log because files have been copied from Wikitravel to Commons in the past. I wouldn't care too much about links: in principle it should be enough to have Original description page and a user name in plain text. It seems that any file links to the old shared image projects will turn red on Tuesday,[2] so it is somewhat urgent. --Stefan4 (talk) 11:12, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
✓ Done Report any errors of course. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 13:01, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! --Stefan4 (talk) 13:03, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
One bug: the URLs go to "File:File:" (i.e. double field prefixes). Example: Special:PermanentLink/82324165. On the other hand, all links will break on Tuesday, so I wouldn't care too much. --Stefan4 (talk) 14:08, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Try not including "File" in the source field: you'll no longer get the error. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:28, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Could you update all URLs in both tools from wts.wikivoyage.org to wts.wikivoyage-old.org? Also, could you add support for Wikivoyage Shared (http://www.wikivoyage-old.org/w/shared/api.php) to oldver.php and fileinfo.php? --Stefan4 (talk) 16:40, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

I've made an attempt to update URLs to wikivoyage-old, but I haven't been able to test it on old version file mover so it might not work. Let me know of any bugs. Anyway, isn't wts.wikivoyage-old the same thing as www.vikivoyage-old.org/w/shared? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:02, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
wts.wikivoyage-old.org (http://wts.wikivoyage-old.org/w/api.php) is the central media repository for English, French, Dutch, Swedish and Russian Wikivoyage. www.wikivoyage-old.org/shared (http://www.wikivoyage-old.org/w/shared/api.php) is the central media repository for German and Italian Wikivoyage. The projects forked from Wikitravel at different points, so the central media repositories ended up being different. --Stefan4 (talk) 22:23, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
That's going to be considerably more difficult; the bot is not currently set up to allow configurations from subdirectories. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:24, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Argh! I also note that the URL structure doesn't work nice with Original description page... --Stefan4 (talk) 08:38, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
I managed to fix original upload logs in a different way (see example at File:Cottbus Altmarkt Filmfest 0005.jpg). I think it's rather important to have an original upload log considering that the Wikivoyage upload was four years ago. Otherwise, we might have an uninformed appeared on some other website in 2009, 2010 or 2011, but the original upload log confirms that the file was on Wikivoyage as early as 2008. --Stefan4 (talk) 09:36, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
That version of Mediawiki is only 1.13.1: http://www.wikivoyage-old.org/shared/Special:Version. Peachy required 1.15. Adding support for this site is really going to cost me some time in terms of rewriting Peachy. In fact, I'm probably not going to do it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:47, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Argh, OK. Thanks anyway. --Stefan4 (talk) 10:10, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Any way we might get the admins to upgrade it to a Mediawiki version more recent, than, say the George W. Bush presidency? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:36, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
The idea appears to be to make the website go offline in a month or so, so I'd guess that they don't want to spend lots of resources on that. The textual projects were imported on Wikimedia servers as voy: and the only task left is (I believe) to handle image migration. Anyway, there don't seem to be too many cases where multiple versions have been uploaded. Maybe it's not too much trouble to upload those versions manually... --Stefan4 (talk) 00:42, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello! Another question from Wikivoyage. Would it be possible to use this tool for images transferred from wts.wikivoyage-old.org? It will help us a lot. Thank you in advance! --Atsirlin (talk) 08:40, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

See w:User talk:Magog the Ogre#Tool for wts wikivoyage once more. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:58, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Political map

I'm loving the work you're doing at File:2012 General Election Results by County.png! I was wondering whether you are going to update the map once canvassed (official) results are available or if this is just going to have unofficial results? Either way, a note at the file description of which kind of results are displayed would be nice. Keep up the good work! --Philosopher Let us reason together. 08:36, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

✓ Done, and thank you. I've provided the numbers that are given by the New York Times, as I've noted on that page. These are not official results, although I note that in the past we've had editors that actually went to the website of each state attorney general and grabbed the data from there. That's too much work for me. I might wait until uselectionatlas does it (as dishonest as that sounds, it's actually legal; one cannot copyright data as you probably know). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
FYI, I've uploaded a blank SVG version at File:2012 General Election Results by County, final.svg for people to play with. (The counties are labeled in the map, so it'll be easy to update using a text editor.) --Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:58, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to tech chats

Hi! I saw that you're interested in the software side of Wikimedia, and I wanted to invite you to watch and participate in our live tech chats, which include video streaming. The next one is next week and you'll be able to watch, live, via screensharing, as a developer fixes a bug, including investigation, a git commit, getting it reviewed and merged, and closing the Bugzilla ticket.

Hope this is of interest! Best wishes, Sumana Harihareswara, Engineering Community Manager at WMF (talk) 17:00, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Unhelpful bot reversion

Hi, I think your bot's latest edit to File:El Salvador Regions map.svg wasn't ideal. It reverted to the version originally uploaded, but I had uploaded a version with new page boundaries that I think was more useful. I've been doing this for a few of the travel maps (and intend to keep doing more, albeit slowly). Can you please stop your bot from reverting these sorts of changes? --Avenue (talk) 00:14, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

The bot is like CommonsHelper: it does not discriminate between a good upload and a bad upload, it's only up to the person who authorized it. You'll have to talk to User:Atsirlin, who is the one who initiated this upload. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:34, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you then. I didn't know how it worked. --Avenue (talk) 04:49, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
No worries. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:59, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
I am sorry. That's my mistake. --Atsirlin (talk) 06:55, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
No problem, easy to fix. I was just worried that it would start happening to all the other maps I've fixed and I mightn't catch them all. --Avenue (talk) 21:55, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Missing gallery update

Hi mate, FYI the galleries didn't update last night (night of the 23-24th). -mattbuck (Talk) 07:33, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Deleted picture

Hello Magog the Ogre, I've recaved the permission from the author for a deleted picture (see this). I have a email from the author, I don´t know the proccess, is it neccesary to send somebody the email? or just put it in the discussion page of the picture. Thank you very much in advance. --Nachosan (talk) 18:48, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

See the instructions at Template:No permission since/en. If you are still unclear after reading that page, feel free to ask me again or ask for help at Commons:Help desk (English) or Commons:Café (español). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:17, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello, can you by any chance give a look at this bot work request? Thanks, Nemo 10:38, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

I will look at it when I have more time; my laptop is running low on power tonight. While my initial reading says this is something which I won't do, a second look is also saying I'll consider it in light of the fact that the source code is already provided. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:19, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for looking at it. The source for the script is not ready yet, I only made he silly script to list the files which need fixing. Slick and Smallman12q are discussing how to write the script now, I guess comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Nemo 09:09, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Uncategorized duplicates

Hello Ogrebot, thanks for taking care of File:The best bakery in the Munich and probably in the world. (5707034292).jpg by marking it as uncategorized. I had marked it as "duplicate" the day before and therefore had deleted the categorization (keeping it in the other file, of course). In future, should I rather keep the categories in both files? --Rudolph Buch (talk) 11:58, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Very thorough clean up

Very thorough clean up. --Foroa (talk) 18:25, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

And this one too and this one and and and and probably others in Special:UnusedFiles. --Foroa (talk) 18:51, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

How did you come across all those files? I am going to work on fixing this bug tonight. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:59, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, it looks like I've run into a bug in the PHP software (he says, trying to deflect the blame). I thought I'd written a safeguard to protect against this, but apparently I screwed it up. I have written the safeguard into the code, so it will not make the edit at all if it wants to blank the page. I will also be contacting PHP to resolve this issue! File history and clean up of File:World empires and colonies around World War I.png

Hey Magog, sorry about the edit conflicts, but I was doing a filemerge/history merge of the Wikipedia files: File:Imperialism 5.png, File:Imperialism6.png, and File:Imperialism.png. I looked at the upload dates and it seems Ishvara7 uploaded the image versions/drafts in that order. File:Imperialism2.png (now called File:World empires and colonies around World War I.png) seems to be the final version he uploaded.

Did I do this correctly, and should I have requested for a bot to do the file version and description merges/re-uploads? - M0rphzone (talk) 03:06, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

I think you did well enough given the task at hand. Commons tends to prefer files remain unmerged, but for the most part it's unstructured. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:54, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Images

Gregory 14 (talk) 23:35, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

See Commons:Fair use/fr. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:14, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Merci encore. Gregory 14 (talk) 18:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

oldver fails

Hi Magog the Ogre. In the case of File:Öl-Rücklaufzerstäuber.png, oldver fails to upload all versions. Could you please have a look? --Leyo 23:08, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

I just went and reauthorized it, and it worked fine. I think it was just a Mediawiki or Toolserver hiccup. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:42, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
It seems that the latest version from Wikipedia is still missing. --Leyo 03:08, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Because I didn't select it, because it's redundant. You're welcome to do it... Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:37, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Redundant in which sense? The latest version is different to the previous ones and therefore needs to be the latest version on Commons, too. I tried it again, but the result was the same (tool said it was successful, but did not transfer anything). --Leyo 09:21, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
From what I can see, this file is missing on Commons: 2009-01-28 20:56 Rasi57 1600×971× (51880 bytes) . There is no other revision with a height of 971 pixels, so it is clearly different to the other revisions. The redundant part seems to come from the fact that this revision has been uploaded to Commons under a different name: File:Öl-Zerstäubungsbrenner.png. --Stefan4 (talk) 14:27, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
The main missing file is the most recent version on de.wikipedia (1600×1249). --Leyo 22:23, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
I just ran it, and it worked fine.[3] Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:52, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
I see what you mean. It's getting confused about which is the most recent upload, and that's goofing everything else up. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:12, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Alright, it's fixed. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:27, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into it. It seems to me that this version would also need to be the current one. I tried again to get this version using oldver, but with no success. --Leyo 01:15, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
As I said, it was misreading which is the current version. That issue should no longer occur. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:10, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
I could have done this myself, but I wanted to leave it as a test case. If this version (and only this) was selected in oldver, it said that it was done was successfully, but in fact nothing has happened. --Leyo 08:05, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

upload cleanup

Hello Magog,

your bot "OgreBot 2" does often not add the "transferred from" statement. [4] [5]. --Nachcommonsverschieber (talk) 13:25, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Oops; on the first one, it is supposed to be moving it down! Thanks for reporting the bug; I will work on it ASAP. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 13:33, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

(BOT): Reverting to most recent version before archival

Hi, I was wondering why OgreBot is "reverting to most recent version before archival." It is switching to lower res versions of some of my files, such as File:Southeastern High Peaks from Giant Mountain.jpg. That doesn't seem desirable? --Peter Talk 18:59, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

The bot isn't able to discern between a crop and a lower resolution version. In this case, it was reverting to the version that was uploaded on Wikivoyage and here, because I, the person who initiated the transfer, chose the default option. I chose the default option because I was going through literally 1500+ uploads from Wikivoyage [6], and didn't have time to scrutinize each upload closely. In other words, when it was uploaded to Wikivoyage, it was uploaded incorrectly, and the way the bot handled it just mirrored the incorrect upload. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:06, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Ah, I see what happened now. Everything is fine. --Peter Talk 05:45, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Your input appreciated

Hello! There is a stalled issue on the Wikipedia Help desk concerning a copyright issue. I came across an image copyright issue when reviewing a DYK nom and posted the issue on the help desk. Would you please weigh-in? Your comments are appreciated. Thanks. — Sctechlaw (talk) 08:12, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for pitching in. That's not the first time I've seen an admin-type get copyright wrong, and frankly, that fact has bothered me enough to put me off editing anything for awhile at times. Copyright can be complex, but WP leaders of any kind should know it by heart. My Xmas wish is for all newly-minted admins to get extra training in copyright issues. I hope your Xmas is merry! — Sctechlaw (talk) 23:16, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Could you please look at this

Hey there, could you possibly take a squizz at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bettie Page.jpg; I suggested that they contact someone such as yourself, and I'm a little disappointed they haven't. Anyway, your input there would be great. russavia (talk) 14:03, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Wrong versions of dive site maps

Ogrebot is uploading wrong versions of files and in some cases wrong files for Wikivoyage dive site articles. Please do something about it. · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 20:04, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

The bot is not the one who authorizes the edit. If the bot is making bad uploads, you'll need to look through the authorization log, linked to from the bot's userpage, and then talk to the user who authorized the upload. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:01, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Ogrebot at en.wikivoyage-old.org

Could you enable tools:~magog/oldver.php for en.wikivoyage-old.org? For example, it is useful for cases like File:DalmatiaLake.jpg where uploaders don't follow . --Stefan4 (talk) 21:08, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

✓ Done Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:10, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Could you also enable it for fr.wikivoyage-old.org? For example, it is needed for http://fr.wikivoyage-old.org/wiki/Fichier:Paris_1st.png --Stefan4 (talk) 21:36, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
It already is enabled. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:08, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
I missed that. Maybe it was because the link in the NowCommons template on that project was broken (now fixed). By the way, User:RolandUnger did something with the Wikivoyage-old servers, and now it seems to be possible to delete and undelete files again. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:17, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Files from Wikivoyage
Hi. I also copied a few files from Wikivoyage (not old). They are in Category:Files moved from en.wikivoyage to Commons requiring review. Just in case you need to fix your script/bot. --MGA73 (talk) 20:45, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

You're not properly creating the wikilinks to the original uploader. For example, it's listed as Natataek when it should say Natataek. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:56, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes I know my bot should be fixed or the files should be fixed manually (I do not expect that many files are uploaded to Wikivoyage and copied to Commons). I would not fix the files manually before you had a chance to see what your bot would do with it. --MGA73 (talk) 07:43, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Well it would be much easier for you to code it. My bot doesn't know if someone has edited the page, and perhaps purposefully put in a link to Wikipedia rather than another project. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

~magog/cleanup_multi.htm

Hi, your category cleanup tool has not been working for a while. Can you please fix the tool? --Sreejith K (talk) 17:43, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Depends on if I can figure out what they changed on the Toolserver that killed the tool's permissions. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:54, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

If that takes time, can you run OgreBot cleanup on Category:Pages with template loops? --Sreejith K (talk) 18:12, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

✓ Done, although it didn't actually fix any of the loops. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:32, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Loops in images are caused by using Self or Self2 templates together with another "self" license such as GFDL-self. If you have an idea for an automated fix then please test it on these images. --Denniss (talk) 06:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
It does not look like the Bot processed any of the images. Both Cleanup JS and Cleanup TS are fixing the redirects. I am keeping the loops as it is, in case you want to test the bot against them. --Sreejith K (talk) 20:12, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
For me, this is solved if I click on "Cleanup JS", but not if I click on "Cleanup TS". --Stefan4 (talk) 21:16, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Most of these didn't only need a double self cleanup but also a change from "migration = review" to "migration=relicense", so I fixed both tasks using Help:VisualFileChange.js. This left only one file in the category. I'm leaving it there for now in case you wish to test something. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:36, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi!

There is indeed no valid source information. Please read COM:L for further information. I have asked the user on en wiki in order to clarify this issue but he/she did not answer by now. Best regards, High Contrast (talk) 18:09, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Are you honestly suggesting that a Self tag is not considered a valid source? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:12, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
The user specifically had to choose self-created in the upload wizard on English Wikipedia. I really hope you're not suggesting that, because I will take it to the community noticeboard if you are, and IMO they will almost certainly agree that it is a valid source, unless I'm totally missing something (which I don't think I am). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:14, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

I suggest nothing - I just follow rules that should be respected. As I stated above: Commons:L#License information: The Source of the material. If the uploader is the author, this should be stated explicitly. (e.g. "Created by uploader", "Self-made", "Own work", etc.). There is no such explicit statement by the author. By the way, just removing problem tags without getting into discussion with the person who placed is not an optimal approach. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 18:19, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

It is an optimal approach when I believe the person who originally tagged the image has done so mistakenly. However, what undoubtedly is "not an optimal approach" is re-tagging an image when when you know for sure that someone has disagreed with you. In any case, the reason that clause exists, IMO, is because people tag an image with and never state who the author is. If the uploader specifically states they are the author through the license, then the source is obviously them, and that is sufficient. As promised, I've brought the image for discussion here: Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Does the .7B.7Bself.7D.7D tag indicate ownership? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:46, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there . Your Bot just add an uncat on my latest upload files (File:W0181-MontfauconMontigne StJean XII°XIII° 22526.JPG‎ and others). Please, let me know the good cat for this pictures. If I didn't cat them it's because I don't know in wich cat I may sort them ... Sorry, I'm not very usefull in that domain, I'm a begginer, learning for categorization ... Sorry for my bad english, I'm french (frenchies have always that excuse ...), I'm not lost in the desert but almost lol. Have a good week. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 02:52, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

It looks like someone already helped you out with that.[7] Anyway, we have a (somewhat mediocre) tutorial on categories here: Commons:Categories (and in French). The way I do it is I look for a higher level category that certainly exists, then try to narrow it down by reading the subcategories. In your example, I would look for a category called Category:Virgin Mary. If you click on that link, near the top you'll see subcategory Category:Virgin Mary by country‎. That category has subcategory Sculptures of Virgin Mary by country, which in turn has subcategory Sculptures of Virgin Mary in France, which has Statues of Virgin Mary in France. By the same process, I got Category:Statues in Maine-et-Loire. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:21, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for answering. Yes, some one did it after my message and before your reply and that makes me learn. I was looking for chapels by saint, or something like that, but I only found churches by saint. Thnks again. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 01:57, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Pardon me if I'm being a bit humorless here, but sometimes I can miss social cues. In any case, I'm a big believer in keeping discussion centralized. Even if it's a silly comment, it seems even sillier to spread the discussion over multiple projects. If you disagree, by all means let me know why and I'll try to take it into account in the future. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
