Thanks

Thanks for nominating my picture of Odiham Castle for Quality images (and for supporting it for Featured picture on en:wp). If the picture succeeds it will perhaps encourage me to consider nominating some other good pictures that I've taken. BabelStone (talk) 12:47, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Featured Pictures

Hi Lewis, I'm not experienced in the Featured Picture process on Commons, but have you considered putting up File:Church of All Saints, Odiham 1.JPG for consideration? Nev1 (talk) 19:22, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! I have already nominated it once. It got a decent amount of support, but not enough for promotion. The discussion was here. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 22:30, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh, and out of curiosity: How did you come across that image? Lewis Hulbert (talk) 22:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Your comments actually made me decide to renominate since it was actually such a close call last time. (I'm leaving far too many replies to this) -- Lewis Hulbert (talk) 01:16, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
I was poking around the uploads for Wiki Loves Monuments and your photo caught my eye. As it's a FP on Wikipedia it must be worth consideration on Commons. I didn't go the extra step of checking whether it had been nominated before. I'll chip in my vote now and fingers crossed for a different outcome. Nev1 (talk) 18:07, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! -- Lewis Hulbert (talk) 18:09, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you.--Steinsplitter (talk) 19:52, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! I'm assuming the large amount of category edits I did earlier today is what brought this on. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 20:19, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks,

File:Holy Trinity Church, Hawley from the road.jpg is an excellent picture, can I convince you to nominate it as a Valued Image? Nev1 (talk) 13:56, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

@Nev1: You can, and you have! I have just nominated it now. I probably have a few more images that could be VIs but I never get around to nominating them. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 14:19, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Marvellous :-) Hopefully there'll be a steady stream of UK photos at Valued Image Candidates – we've got a long way to catch up with France which has thousands of them! Nev1 (talk) 17:35, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
File:Michael Rosen recording Listening Lions (17) (14310753767).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Quality images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2014

I see you added images (e.g. File:Reflections at St Pancras Railway Station.jpg) to both Category:Quality images from Wiki Loves Monuments UK 2014 and Category:Quality images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2014. Only the former is required as it is a sub-category of the other. -- Colin (talk) 14:07, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

@Colin: It does seem strange, but it was done that way last year too. Maybe it should've never been done like that, but I'm only doing it the same way as it was done last year (and as how Richard Nevell (WMUK) was doing it before I joined in) --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 15:24, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
See COM:OVERCAT. I think you are just making work for yourself (and for someone else should they decide to eliminate the duplication). -- Colin (talk) 17:13, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
When I started out, the images had categories for both. There is a little bit of overcategorisation for WLM, so Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 has all 107,000 images so far and they also have categories for the countries. I assumed the QI categorisations followed the same pattern but at the moment only the UK and Ukraine seem to have those subcategories. I don't have strong feeling either way as if you want to know a headline figure such as how many Quality Images there are from a particular edition of WLM you can run CatScan or GLAMorous. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 11:14, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
If anything, I don't really believe there needs to be a "Quality images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2014" category, since it can easily be found out using the suggestions by Richard Nevell and most countries seem to do fine without them. There seems to be lots of redundancy in hidden categories wherever I look, I was never sure if COM:OVERCAT didn't apply to hidden categories or if just nobody cares. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 15:15, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Quality image???

Hi. Many thanks for letting me know that there is a system for doing this! It does, however beg the question: how on earth did [[File:Windsor MMB 03 King George V Memorial Fountain.jpg]] receive a quality image badge?!! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 15:15, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
