Bicycle evolution-en.svg[edit]

It looks like you and Keith left this conversation hanging back in 2009, which is a shame since the diagram has been reproduced in 6 other languages at this point. Perhaps you guys could hash out what specific changes are appropriate before more versions are created. I would be happy to facilitate getting the actual changes made, but since I know nothing about bicycles, I have no idea what makes sense to change. Kaldari (talk) 18:25, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a note (I tried not to be long winded with little success) on the image's talk page. I'd be interested to get your input. --Keithonearth (talk) 21:48, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jim.henderson!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:George Ukrainian Cath Hall 7st jeh.jpg[edit]

Hello Jim.henderson, I will move File:George Ukrainian Cath Hall 7st jeh.jpg to File:George Ukrainian Cath Hall 7th jeh.jpg or do you prefer another filename? Maybe File:St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church - Hall 7th jeh.jpg or ? --Diwas (talk) 22:53, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem; all seem good to me and it is pleasant of you to notify beforehand. I am hasty with names. When the name does not accidentally describe the wrong place, that's good enough for me but some editors prefer correct spelling and so forth on filenames. Jim.henderson (talk) 23:57, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect is not really a problem in filenames and I do not search for it directly, but sometimes they go from a filename into the description on Commons or into visible text of Wikipedia articles or to a commons-category name. Sometimes appears two categories like 7st Street and 7th Street. This will be confusing and searching to a specific picture (e.g. by fulltext search "7th") will be not very easy. But, not a problem, we have the filemove function :-) --Diwas (talk) 10:58, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Thank you. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:52, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bkln_War_Mem_sun_winter_jeh.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Two more Queens categories[edit]

Earlier today, I added two new categories for Queens neighborhoods; Category:Fresh Meadows, Queens and Category:Oakland Gardens, Queens. Be sure to spread the word and fill them up. ----DanTD (talk) 02:36, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Church of the Pilgrim Holiness, Brooklyn[edit]

Jim,

You recently added a picture of a church on the wiki site "Pilgrim Holiness Church". The church in your picture is not associated with the Pilgrim Church referred to in the article and should be removed.

Done. Thanks for noticing. Jim.henderson (talk) 23:48, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Broken coordinates[edit]

I was checking out pics of Jamaica, and found a broken coordinates link at File:Loews Valencia Jamaica Av jeh.jpg. I tried to fix it myself, but it didn't work. ----DanTD (talk) 11:40, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I bungled the paste, and in haste failed to check it. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:54, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Identifying the location of your photo[edit]

Hi, Jim! Can you tell me in which city you snapped fire NHRFR station? I'd like to add the city, as I have with the other NHRFR station pics. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 02:17, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

At upload time I tried and failed to identify the location, but since then either Google Earth or MS Bing or my skill with them has improved, so half an hour's work tonight got it. Kindly check in case I slipped up. Jim.henderson (talk) 04:43, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Bronx Categories[edit]

Three days ago, I created three categories for neighborhoods in the Bronx;

Not necessarily in that order, but I still created them. I just thought you might be interested in filling them up. ----DanTD (talk) 00:05, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jim, you don't eventually know the girl or her parents, so that they might be asked about our somewhat bizarre deletion discussion. --Túrelio (talk) 07:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. I didn't ask. A few hours ago a bunch of friends and relatives agreed with me that losing this picture for this reason is silly. However, the law is the law even when it is being silly. Next time I'll know to turn the camera knob to video and interview the artists together to get them saying something like "We made this beautiful work of art as a gift for the world, and we want everyone to photograph it and use the pictures for anything they want and they don't have tell us, pay us, or say we did it." Jim.henderson (talk) 07:39, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. You might consider uploading it to Flickr and putting it under (C)ARR. Eventually after some time the parents might see it and ask for a copy (or to remove it). Then you have the opportunity to ask them. Just a thought. --Túrelio (talk) 07:54, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Or anyone else could, since my work is released PD. Jim.henderson (talk) 23:18, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for something[edit]

Hi Jim, your name keeps popping up in photo's from Morristown, NJ and churches in Queens. So I was wondering if you could help me trying to find two locations that have been used in The Sopranos. If you've seen the show, I'm looking for the "Inn at the Oakes" from season 6 and the church that was used for interiors in seasons 1 and 6. If you haven't seen the show, you can see images here and here (possible exterior here).
Do these locations look familiar to you? If you need bigger images, feel free to ask. Other locations are also welcome :) Thanks for your time! -- ZanderZ (talk) 10:52, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry; I've biked to Morristown three times in my life and spent a total of about six hours there without learning as much as I have about a great many other places such as West Orange or Bayonne. Queens is large, with as many buildings as any county in New Jersey. I bicycle to some part or other several times every year, and for the past week have been uploading exterior photos of western Queens including schools, restaurants, office buildings and churches, but seldom go inside. So no, finding scenes of old TV and movie photography is not among my strengths, except in Manhattan where I am sometimes able to identify the locations of pictures more than a century old. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:08, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I thought it was worth asking :) Thanks anyway -- ZanderZ (talk) 16:02, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
