Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Jetam2,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Photos from Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2018[edit]

Hello! I saw you taking a photos of this event. Please, split them in these subcategories:

Thanks for your contribution! --JTs (talk) 13:33, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. I was not quite sure where to put it since it is not quite part of WM CEE 2018 anyways, it might be better to not include it in any of these categories.--Jetam2 (talk) 14:05, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Reminder[edit]

Hi Jetam2. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template, please remember to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:02, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jeff G. I try to, I just find it very confusing. But thanks for correcting it.--Jetam2 (talk) 05:11, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:22, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G.: Sorry, I do not understand.--Jetam2 (talk) 18:46, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In this edit, you appeared to be attempting to have a Deletion request subpage deleted, by using {{Delete}} rather than {{subst:Delete2}}. That is not allowed.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 19:08, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, I am rather confused by the nuances of the deletion requests as they are not very straightforward. I was just attempting to get a picture deleted that someone uploaded and even outright said that it was not theirs. Not sure why you should be accusing me of vandalism. But no worries, I will no longer clean up Commons by getting things deleted since it does not seem to be worth the effort. Be well!--Jetam2 (talk) 19:16, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I accept your apology. I did not see it at first because you did not ping me this time. In most cases, you should be using the "Nominate for deletion" tool rather than using {{Delete}} manually.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:21, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: To be honest, I was hoping for your apology. Thank you for the tip though.--Jetam2 (talk) 06:36, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, how would you have handled it?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:07, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Could have just given the tip, without the accusations of vandalism. It was clearly a good faith edit, though not correct.--Jetam2 (talk) 10:20, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I tried that above (23:02, 27 June 2021 (UTC)).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:24, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Thanks for trying. Words could have been chosen more carefully.--Jetam2 (talk) 11:17, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This was the standard {{Test2}}. You may discuss the wording at Template talk:test2.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:48, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Right, but why chose those when this was clearly not vandalism.--Jetam2 (talk) 15:50, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What would you have chosen?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:10, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Something like "Dear Jetam, please follow the deletion guidelines more closely, as explained in my post of 27 June 2021. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!" How does that sound? A lot less de-motivating, IMHO.--Jetam2 (talk) 08:16, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:31, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: No problem, Jeff. Thanks for asking.--Jetam2 (talk) 08:33, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Jetam, please follow the deletion guidelines even more closely, as explained in my post of 27 June 2021. You again appeared to be attempting to have a Deletion request subpage deleted, by using {{Delete}} rather than {{subst:Delete2}} in this edit. Is there something preventing you from using the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests? Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:47, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Sorry, Jeff G. I rarely nominate anything for deletion here. The standard is not very obvious and easy to remember. But okay, I will try to remember to re-read this conversation before doing any nominating.--Jetam2 (talk) 22:52, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Nominate for deletion does not appear to exist for categories (or at least not for the one in question). Generally I prefer using templates rather than looking for an obscure link. But this is on sk.wiki.--Jetam2 (talk) 22:58, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, the link to search for here on Commons is "Nominate category for discussion". See sk:Wikipédia:Stránky na zmazanie for a starting point on sk.wiki.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 00:37, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I believe that is how I started.--Jetam2 (talk) 10:00, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:People at Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2022 n.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
