File:VAMAS 1st Two Chairs.png

Hi Jeff G. Would you mind taking a look at File:VAMAS 1st Two Chairs.png and assessing its licensing? As posted at en:User talk:FuzzyMagma#File:VAMAS 1st Two Chairs.png, the uploader didn't take the photo themselves, but rather seems to have found it in a folder with other photos and documents related to en:VAMAS. Since you're a VRT volunteer and license reviewer, maybe you can better explain to the uploader what they need to do or check for the contents of that folder to be OK to upload to Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:33, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Thanks for asking. I tagged that file with {{subst:npd}} in this edit and notified the user with {{subst:file permission}} in this second edit using the "No permission" functionality of COM:AQD. I then analyzed the user talk page and warned the user with {{subst:end of copyvios}} in this third edit by selecting the "End copyvio - Give user a final warning because of previous copyright violations" template in the "User Messages" Gadget. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 10:07, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
@Jeff G. and @Marchjuly I dont think the {{subst:end of copyvios}} was appropriate as it states "You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions." which not applicable.
As I mentioned on my talk page, I do not think I repeated the same mistake twice. Your warning equates not knowing with intentionality which is not true. I do not think you analysed my talk page but rather "glanced"
Plus, should you have waited until the File:VAMAS 1st Two Chairs.png discussion is closed? (I send an email with confirmation) and then have a discussion so I can learn. This at least shows you are keen on keeping contributors and not scaring them off. It also shows good faith
I wonder if I can challenge your judgement further as I think it was rushed without consideration to my valuable work here. Wikipedia is a thankless place but at least I do not want my process to learn be threatened by hasty judgement like this. I will advise you to go through all of the previous mistakes that I have made (analyse them) and see how in each on of them how I have learned. I will appreciate more restrain from your side as not to jump to block warnings, giving my value to this project.
I do not expect you to give me a medal, but I do expect you to give me the benefit of the doubt. Cheers FuzzyMagma (talk) 10:31, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

A judgment question for you

Hello Jeff G.,

Do you think categorizing an airport that did not exist until 1973 as Category:Ben Gurion International Airport in the 1930s, when in the 1930s that area was part of the Category:British Mandate of Palestine, part of the British Empire? Israel did not become a sovereign state until 1948 and Ben Gurion did not become premier until 1949. The airport was named for him after his death in 1973. Am I being too concrete? Thanks, Krok6kola (talk) 22:28, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

@Krok6kola: We also have Category:John F. Kennedy International Airport in the 1950sβ€Ž, Category:LaGuardia Airport in the 1930sβ€Ž, and Category:1942 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airportβ€Ž as other anachronistic categories for airports I know have been renamed. The navigational templates work better with single names. You could put naming histories in those cats or their ancestors, as appropriate, or you could discuss at COM:VP. Question about 1686 painting

Hello Jeff, this painting "The Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal with the Flower Market, Amsterdam" was made in 1686. So it's in the public domain right? -Artanisen (talk) 11:34, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen Yes, but please be sure to indicate the 1698 year of death of painter Gerrit Adriaensz. Berckheyde as {{PD-Art|PD-old-auto-expired|deathyear=1698}}. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 11:51, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Same Photo Twice on Commons

Hello Jeff, I updated this photo with a high resolution version. Then I found that there's another version of the exact same photo on Wikimedia Commons. The second one has a better filename (easier to find with search engines). Should I also update the second photo or upload the high resolution photo as a separate file and change all the Wikipedia pages to that version? The second option requires more work. -Artanisen (talk) 10:31, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: You may overwrite File:Amsterdam airphoto.jpg with the higher resolution version (ignoring the duplicate warning) consistent with COM:OW, patch the file description page with any info you want to save, and then tag File:AmsterdamLuchtfotoBmz.jpg with {{G7}} or {{My bad upload}}. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 10:44, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
Okay, could you please overwrite with the higher quality version? Because I don't want to be blamed if someone complains that it's a duplicate image.Artanisen (talk) 11:43, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: βœ“Β Done, and patched the file description page, and replaced all uses, and tagged as dupe. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 11:42, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Question about statue of Masamune

Hello Jeff, this photo of the statue of Date Masamune was nominated for deletion. Nnkrkrhhdi also nominated other photos in this category, but not every photo. The statue was made in 1935. The author died on June 18, 1953. According to the Public domain According to Japanese Copyright Law (June 1, 2018 grant) the copyright expires after 50 years. But now it is 70 years. So 1935 + 70 years = 2005. 1953 + 70 years = 2023. However, Nnkrkrhhdi said "the statue in this photo was made with the original plaster prototype on October, 1964." Probably nobody who uploaded photos of the statue knew this detail. Isn't the second statue (placed in 1964) made with the original plaster prototype derivate work (a replica) of the original 1935 statue? What do you think? -Artanisen (talk) 07:28, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: I opined at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Statue-of-Date-Masamune-in-Aobayama-Park-Sendai-2016.jpg 20230413. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 09:16, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello Jeff somehow, imho the images of the cosplayers seem not to fit in the category and I was wondering if you are aware of subcategories of cosplayers, like for example Category:Date Masamune cosplayers Thanks. Lotje (talk) 12:17, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

@Lotje: You are welcome to create the subcategory as a member of the header category, and move files there manually or with Cat-a-lot. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 09:36, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello Jeff, do you have any idea what to do with this? Baring in mind his Thug Shaker Control, I guess the description is not OKAY and is OOS. Thank you so much for your kind help and assistance. Cheers. Lotje (talk) 10:16, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

License review

Hi Jeff. I noticed that you had tagged {{License review}} on a some of images that have already been reviewed (e.g, File:Sistar on June 9, 2012 (2).jpg). Was this in error, or is there a reason for this? – PbrksΒ (tΒ β€’Β c) 03:25, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Question about Queen Himiko figure

Hi Jeff, there is a complaint that a photo of this life-sized statue of Queen Himiko is not allowed. Should the image be deleted? I'll agree with the deletion if that's the case. The photo was taken in good faith, but the person who filed the complaint is harsh and does not treat it as a "good faith" issue. One counter argument is that there are other photos of life-sized figures in museums on Commons, such as this one which are probably not antique. There are many other photos of Museum Figures on Commons. What do you think about it? -Artanisen (talk) 11:50, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Longparliament image

Hello Jeff, I found the high quality version of this Longparliament image. See figure 5. The description says "Fig 5. Unknown engraver, β€˜Platform of the Lower House of this Present Parliament’, c 1641, broadside. Image: BM 1885,1114.124.1-3, reproduced by kind permission of the British Museum Β© The Trustees of the British Museum." Was it made in 1641? I don't know the creator's name. Can I upload it to Commons? -Artanisen (talk) 00:07, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: You could, but first you should research a potentially even higher quality version or authorship info at the British Museum with "BM 1885,1114.124.1-3", and then use {{PD-Art|PD-old-assumed}} if you still can't find the identity or death year of the engraver. Please ignore the copyright claims of The Trustees of the British Museum on this work and use internal links. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 10:40, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I can't find the original author name, but it looks antique.-Artanisen (talk) 07:46, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: I found it with Google's search at https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1885-1114-124-1-3 and uploaded it as File:Platform of the Lower House of this Present Parliament.jpg, then uploaded File:Long Parliament.jpg as the central image. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 10:17, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll upload a smaller cropped version of the image to Commons. -Artanisen (talk) 10:26, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: Smaller how? Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 10:31, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
I cropped the empty areas around the engraving and moved the text below close to the artwork. Then I saved it as high quality (instead of max). The original is 32.4 MB while the cropped version is 13.2 MB JPG. -Artanisen (talk) 10:41, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: Thank you for uploading File:Platform of the Lower House of this Present Parliament (of England) Assembled at Westminster 1640.jpg, I suppose it has it's uses. The original dezoomified image was a 63.1 MB png file; I didn't want to induce any generational loss, so I uploaded File:Platform of the Lower House of this Present Parliament.jpg with 100% quality. When are you going to start using internal links? Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 02:55, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try to use internal links more with replies. I usually upload PNG, because PNG retains image quality better while JPG can have artefacts. -Artanisen (talk) 06:33, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: You're welcome. Any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744) or jaggy when scaled up. My image did not have artifacts. Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 04:36, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Infobox Lua Error

Hello Jeff, the infobox of this image shows an error after I removed a question mark "Lua error in Module:DateI18n at line 113: attempt to index field 'data' (a nil value).". If I check revert it still shows the error. Do you know how to fix it? -Artanisen (talk) 07:46, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: I don't see such an error. Did you ask at Module talk:DateI18n or COM:VPT? Β  β€” πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to meπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 11:07, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Restoring vandalism

@93.72.49.123: I'm sorry, when I made those edits, I did not yet realize the ramifications of all of the false positives related to phab:T298672, which led me to a false conclusion about you.
