Please forgive me.

Actually Suddenly I mistake because I don't know what kind of picture uploaded on wikipedia commons. I am new contributor on wikipedia. So I don't know what is the wikipedia Commons picture guidelines and I don't mistake again. Help

The author commented that on the photo (and I've archived a copy ) but Commons put it in the categories "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike missing SDC copyright status" and "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 missing SDC copyright license". How do I fix this? photo Ps: I left the message on here on your talk page because I still haven't solved the problem with ping.😔 Theys York (talk) 00:25, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: Don't worry about the SDC-related cats, a bot will remove them by adding license information to SDC. I am more concerned with the copyright - it doesn't seem like a selfie, so who took the photo and how did Kelly Dieng get permission from them to tweet it and to license it as CC-BY-SA-4.0? See also Template:Reply to/doc.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:34, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
The photo began circulating on Twitter with fans mentioning her Instagram. She originally posted the photo on her Ig account in the Storys, with captions above. The only version published without caption is on her Twitter, I found it because she sent it to me via private message on Instagram. Does this work for licensing? Theys York (talk) 00:44, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: No, sorry.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:50, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
So by what means can she prove it. she couldn't send it through Flickr, so all that's left is for her to email a copy of the photo to OTRs isn't that it? Theys York (talk) 00:57, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
OK. I received your message.😭 Theys York (talk) 00:59, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
I'll talk to her. Theys York (talk) 01:00, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: Thanks. She can have the photographer send us permission, or produce a legal document transferring permission from the photographer to her.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:01, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
The original copy of the photo is on her cell phone. So what would be an example of "produce a legal document transferring permission from the photographer to her"? Does he email OTRs saying he passed the copyright to Kelly Dieng? Or does he upload the photo to Flickr? Theys York (talk) 01:36, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: Either, except that "email OTRs" is not done any more; see VRT.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:39, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

While the other person still hasn't responded, I got another "picture", but it's a video. She has posted on her Twitter account the video where you can see her holding the camera, and the screenshot where you can't see it. Which one should I send her to comment on this photo/video is CC-BY-SA-4.0 licensed?Theys York (talk) 00:16, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: You might as well send both.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:58, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
She was unable to change the license on Flickr to Creativecommons, but on Twitter she commented CC-BY-SA-4.0. Is there a problem?Theys York (talk) 19:05, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Another user replied, sorry.🙂 Theys York (talk) 20:17, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, but do you know if this photos needs the comment mentioning "photos" (there are 3 in the link) or how is the license valid? I'm also in doubt if these photos are valid as a selfie, the angle indicates so, but it's not possible to see the hand/arm holding the camera.Theys York (talk) 19:05, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

As the author asked me if the photo was already online, I send it even when in doubt. But she said if there's a problem she can upload it to Flickr. She asked me to credit the name of her social network in the photo description. I hope it's not a problem.🙂 Theys York (talk) 20:51, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: What social network?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:27, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: Clarification of "photo" vs. "photos" on Twitter or via VRT would be helpful. I believe the selfie bit. Would you consider renaming File:Kit Connor with Maylis Briand.jpg to File:Kit Connor.jpg or File:Kit Connor by Maylis Briand.jpg given that Maylis Briand is not in the photo?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:27, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
OK. I tried moving it to "Kit Connor" but I couldn't.😐Theys York (talk) 12:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: ✓ Done in this edit; next time, to change file name, please ensure that the description is correct (using an "edit" link") and then use RenameLink, or {{Rename}} (if you can't use JavaScript).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:21, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

I saw that signatures can be copyrighted. So just in case I'm going to ask the author of a photo to send an email to VTR. I'm just not sure how to load it. The signature is in a book. Just send the photo of the complete book and then cut it?Theys York (talk) 14:45, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

The VTR team refused the autograph photo, as the actor is alive, and for being on the cover of the book. They also denied all the selfies because I took it from Twitter, which doesn't save the metadata of the photos. I'm going to warn other people to be careful with this.😭 Theys York (talk) 17:41, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: What VRT (not VTR) ticket number(s) did you get?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:49, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't have the code. The person who sent the emails to VRT was the author of the selfies, and she told me via direct message on Twitter. The VRT said it is to upload a new version of the photos with metadata (the original file). The author e-mailed me the photos, and I already sent a new version of the files to Wikimedia. But I'm thinking about not sending the photo of the signed book, because it will be deleted anyway. I was thinking of just clipping the signature and uploading it to Commons, but I think there's still going to be a copyright issue because the actor is still alive, as one of the VRT members said. Theys York (talk) 18:53, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: I found Ticket:2022062710005508. There was no attached file, or mention of a file URL or filename. You, Kelly, or the copyright holder could provide that info by emailing photosubmission@wikimedia.org with a subject line including "Re: [Ticket#2022062710005508] release of content attached to this email" without quotes.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:01, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
In my last comment from above i'm talking about all the voidlucy pics. They asked to upload the original file so it has metadata on Wikimedia. I've already sent them all, with the exception of this one 1 which a VRT member said he can't approve because the autograph is on the cover of a book, and this one 2 which, since it's not a selfie, the person next to of the actor in the photo said that the file should be sent for deletion because she was unable to contact the author. About Kelly's photo, I had no further response from her. Kelly or did someone upload something to VRT? Can I send with the ticket? Since they sent the email without the file? Theys York (talk) 23:23, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: I updated Ticket:2022070310006327 with that voidlucy info.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:09, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Are the voidducy pictures ok? Or does she need to resend an email saying that the files with metadata have already been uploaded? Theys York (talk) 02:17, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: Sorry, I don't know yet. Sending them in a reply could help.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:17, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

When talking about the photo with the author I explained the change in usage in the article, and she suggested that her name be credited in the file as "Kit Connor by @maylischnapp". When you asked me what name I wanted to change to, I chose not to put Maylis Briand because she doesn't use it on social media (Twitter and Instagram), she signed up on Flickr, but gave up on the account. Here a tt with her crediting the photo with "cr:maylischnapp". She told me via private message on tt that it's @ from Insta. I asked them to rename the file, but they refused. Is there any way to fix it?Theys York (talk) 15:19, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: ✓ Renamed.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:39, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, @Jeff G.. I just realized that you've reported me for violating copyright rules, ON VARIOUS WEAK EXCUSES. The reason I emptied my talk page is because your nonsense messages are driving me crazy. I've understood my mistakes, so I will NEVER upload a file to Wikipedia again. Category

I created this category here, but I'm in doubt, is it valid? And an profile on Wikidata for the author, would that also be valid? Or does he need to have a biography on Wikipedia first? Like this case. Theys York (talk) 23:58, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: It is valid, but unless you anticipate non-photo files from them, "Photos" would be better. Having a Wikipedia article first is not necessary.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:25, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
And 'creator:@voidlucy' ? I can also create and write in the template fields 'Date of birth', 'Description'... ? Theys York (talk) 00:37, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
@Theys York: Yes. References will be helpful.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:41, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Is it possible to send this and this photo for deletion, since the author said not to send the authorization? Or do I have to wait 30 days? (From the day the bot tagged the photos saying it received the email.)Theys York (talk) 02:34, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: I tagged them as such.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:29, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

I had Googled this photo (which is cropped here on Commons) and had no results, so I assumed the license is legitimate. But now I found it complete, after a fan site publish. I think the VRT members will ask whoever uploaded it to the Wiki in its original size, isn't that it?Theys York (talk) 17:49, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theys York: Something like that, you can tag it with {{Copyvio}} or refer the uploader to VRT.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 19:48, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Deletion Request for Categories

Sorry, I am just dumb. But your suggestion to just follow the the instructions given by the button on the toolbar on the left just doesn't work for categories, because there is no button on the left for the suggestion of deletion of categories. So I tried to follow the instructions you gave me, which obviously weren't clear enough either. We don't need to redirect Category:Smokestaks Kraftwerk Scholven anywhere, we just need it gone. In the past I just let such categories empty and they where dumped quasi automatically. I know that this is also bad practice, so I tried the deletion process on my own. Well, to repeat myself, I am obviously just dumb. We can play back and forth for just a time longer, or if you feel annoyed you could try to add instructions for deletion requests for other things than just images somewhere prominently, so that even lusers like me can find it. Wuselig (talk) 05:26, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

@Wuselig: I'm sorry, categories are a little different; for them, we have had discussions rather than deletions per COM:CFD since 2007, and thus a separate "Nominate category for discussion" button. However, since that category qualifies for COM:CSD#G7, I nominated it for speedy deletion under that criterion. Hopefully, I provided instructions which are easier for you to follow in this edit.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:19, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

@Ilovemydoodle: How did you convert it from ra? Re the copyright, after like 95 years from the death of Pierre De Geyter, composer (again, 1 January 2027), we would still need to wait for like 95 years from the death of each musician. Conversion from the midi file would obviate that need to wait.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 06:32, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Question

Hello Jeff, I was wondering if you could take a look at this. In an effort to give readers the link to information in English, I tried to add the datalink to this specific category. Микола Василечко does not think that is correct. Since you know every (hidden) corner here, I was wondering what possibly can be done to help readers who do noet speak/write/read for example, Ukranian, Russian, Aremenian. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 15:47, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Lotje Add a translation to the photo in English! Example {{en|1=Anatol Bazylevych - Ukrainian religious, public and military figure}}, If there is no page in English Wikipedia in English. Regards! --Микола Василечко (talk) 15:54, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Dear Микола Василечко, since I do not speak/write Ukranian, I am very sorry not being able to translate texts into English, but if you are in the opinion, information from Wikidata can be copy/pasted on the files, that is fine by me. On the other hand, as I stated before, as a non Ukranian language speaker/reader, I would not know where to find the wikidatalink on the Ukranian language page of Базилевич Анатоль, not everybody is prepared to go through all the options to finally arrive at Елемент Вікіданих. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 16:03, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Lotje link to Wikidata is in chapter File usage on other wikis! You is administrator in West-Vlamsche Wikipedia? Don't know where the links are from file information? --Микола Василечко (talk) 16:30, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Sorry to have to comment: it is not me, but the reader in general who is important. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 16:32, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: Linking through a category like Category:Anatol Bazylevych can be enough.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:25, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Hello Jeff, thanks. strange hearing you say that, because I have been reading somewhere (a long time ago,... so many guidelines everywhere... sigh) that linking to the commons categories is not desirable, but then again, I agree, this would be the ultimate solution, I mean, in case there is not a Anatol Bazylevych (Q12080299) page on Wikidata. On the other hand, I could also ask my dear friend George Chernilevsky if he could translate for example this. But, imho that would be to the uploader to ask. Lotje (talk) 04:52, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
✓ Done I've added a translation to the file's talk page. The filename translates as "From the preface of the translator (Priest Anatoly Bazilevich) to the book "In the footsteps of the Teacher" " -- George Chernilevsky talk 07:44, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Could you mention to Carlos Eduardo Joos that his photos are really nice, and how pleased we are that he has chosen to use cc-by for his pictures, but if he could also add a few details about where they were taken, they would be even more valuable. In particular for File:Bananaquit (2022).jpg from his Flickr here; some location details will allow determination of the subspecies (not possible without the location). Merge wiki commons items

Hi @Jeff G.: , these 2 items on wiki commons "Kakizaki clan (Q15734194)" and "Matsumae clan (Q1061883)" should be merged. They're both about the Matsumae clan which was originally called Kakizaki clan. I recommend calling it "Matsumae clan (Q1061883)". @Mike Peel: Can you help with this?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:47, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Artanisen and Jeff G.: I can merge them, but there's a problem that needs to be fixed here first. We have both Category:Kakizaki clan and Category:Matsumae clan - do they also need to be merged? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi @Mike Peel: , the category Matsumae clan is a sub-category of Kakizaki clan, I think that can stay separate. The 2 items on wiki data, Kakizaki clan should merge with Matsumae clan so "Kakizaki clan" item disappears. Well that is my suggestion at least. Then we can link all the Wikipedia language articles about Matsumae clan and Kakizaki clan together. -Artanisen (talk) 21:17, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Artanisen: That's not how it works, if we have separate Commons categories, then we need separate Wikidata items to describe them... Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:19, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Mike Peel: , well the Wikipedia articles are for example on the Japanese wiki article it is called Kakizaki clan, the first paragraph says it is Kakizaki clan / Matsumae clan. It describes the clan as Kakizaki and later it becomes Matsumae, but it is the same clan so 2 names on 1 article page. If we merge the categories then I recon only keep Matsumae clan with some information that it is originally Kakizaki clan? Or should we keep it separate? -Artanisen (talk) 21:26, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
