Getting checkuser wrong

Hi Jeff, sorry if I made some mistakes with the checkuser request, I'm not familiar with the process at Commons, an admin just asked me to file one. The automated "Request a checkuser" box is less than clear when there are previous reports for a user (or, at least, this is the case for Yuiyui2001): I was given no pregenerated form to fill in, I had to go back and resubmit with a fake name to get the templates, which I could then copy onto Yuiyui2001's page. I don't know if that's a bug, or if the templates are just out of whack on that particular page. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:48, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

@Lord Belbury: The pregenerated form comes from Commons:Requests for checkuser/Inputbox/Sample.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:08, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Would it be a good idea to update Commons:Requests for checkuser/Inputbox/Header/Instructions to say that somehow? It just says to "Please fill out the template below", when no such template exists on historical cases. (Trying some other usernames it does seem to be the same for all pre-existing cases.) --Lord Belbury (talk) 13:19, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
@Lord Belbury: Feel free to suggest that on Commons talk:Requests for checkuser.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:40, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Can I politely ask that you not contribute to unrelated discussions on my talk page? I didn't much appreciate you adding to a stale and fractious "harassment" thread when notifying me about the unrelated checkuser issue above, and responding on my behalf to an upset user today was unnecessary (as I'd already replied on their talk page) and unhelpful (as I'd given them a slightly different answer). Thanks. --Lord Belbury (talk) 11:23, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@Lord Belbury: Ok, sorry.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:28, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Out of scope?

Hello Jeff, wondering if you could take a look at the contributions of this user. imo they are out of scope. Thanks. Lotje (talk) 16:04, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Pixabay review

Hi, Jeff! You once uploaded and confirmed a picture from Pixabay that I based some derivative work on. I was wondering if you'd care to review File:SuitcaseCombinationLock.jpeg for me now, so I can use that in my OER on password security (without the risk of it getting speedy'd; the respective cat being slightly too crowded for it to be reviewed in the normal process in foreseeable future)? Plus the picture closes a real gap here on Commons. Couldn't find anything similar! :-) Thanks for your time (even if just reading this.) --chris 20:57, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

@chris: ✓ Done.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:43, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! --chris 23:39, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Tag

Would you please tag {{End of copyvios}} for this user talk page? --StreamVirgin (talk) 00:25, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

@StreamVirgin: Why not {{Fcs}} first? Why can't you place a template there?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:04, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
I was checking for some licensing issues for Thrakkx, Clarioio, and others for repeated uploading non-free files. StreamVirgin (talk) 01:50, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@StreamVirgin: How do you know so much about licensing?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:33, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
Half of the files I uploaded that were nominated for copyvios were determined not to be in violation. I do not need a warning about this months later. Thanks. Thrakkx (talk) 03:32, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@Thrakkx: Is this the exact copyright violation for File:Timothy Laurence Killeen.jpg what they reported as a non-free license? StreamVirgin (talk) 06:26, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@StreamVirgin: This file was deleted two years ago now, and I have since learned why. What are you trying to achieve here, punish me retroactively? Thrakkx (talk) 16:26, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@Thrakkx: Where is the free license or PD rationale for https://www.uillinois.edu/president/biography?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:31, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: There is no free license or PD rationale, only this image (File:David Kinley Portrait.jpg) was recently undeleted and entered it to public domain in the US. Also, this website has copyright notice said "© 2022 The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois". StreamVirgin (talk) 12:50, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

please be carful about falls claims by people who have ethnicity interest in asking for deletion. Homaaaa (talk) 01:34, 13 January 2022 (UTC) Hi . I am sure about some person who have nationality or ethnics interest in asking deletions. specially in issues regarding the maps of the persian gulf and the sea of Oman. I don't like to mention their name here but I am sure about.

Homaaaa (talk) 06:55, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
@Homaaaa: I see that the first two lines above were copied badly from Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections/Archive 32#User:Homaaaa without attribution, one in violation of my copyright. Was that about Huji?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:23, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi .all those I had uploaded have no copy right and myself had received permission from the owner to upload it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Homaaaa (talk • contribs) 20:26, 15 March 2022‎ (UTC)

@Homaaaa: Each such copyright owner should post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such work on their official website or social media presence or send the image and permission via VRT with a carbon copy to you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:09, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Iulipopa97

Hi Jeff G.! Given Iulipopa97's recent activity you may want to go ahead with the warning you had left on their talk page a while ago: User talk:Iulipopa97#You may be blocked soon. Might add that David.ciprian.2021 and AccesDirectNeoficial are potential clones. Cheers! Gikü (talk) 11:51, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg

Hi Jeff G. I'm assuming that you saw COM:VPC#File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg, which in turn led you to tagging the file for speedy deletion as a copvio. You might want to respond to User talk:Fragmentsforart#File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg because the uploader seems to not quite understand COM:L. Perhaps all that is needed is for the copyright holder to email their consent to VRT for verification. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:36, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

I can respond for myself thank you. This was legitimately uploaded by the owner, Luani Kologi who is also the owner of fragments. this photo and has been there as a profile picture for years. There is no reason for its deletion. Please fix this. Paulhus15 (talk) 15:47, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
@Paulhus15: What can you tell us about the dates and countries of photography and publication? Please read COM:EVID.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:19, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
this was the owners own work. It was never about licensing. Luanie Kologi, being a personal friend of Caruso, at my request, kindly opened a logon on wikimedia commons and uploaded this for me. On Caruso's single she authorized him to use it as well. One had nothing to do with the other and should not be assumed that it did. no licensing necessary. https://www.facebook.com/Fragments-by-Luanie-Kologi-132644530149296/ Paulhus15 (talk) 16:24, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
It's always about licensing when it comes to Commons because Commons only hosts files whose licensing can verified as explained in COM:PCP. The copyright holder of photo is the almost always the person who takes the photo, and only this person can give their COM:CONSENT for the file to be uploaded to Commons under an acceptable free license. If they want to do so, there needs to be some way of verifying this consent. This is particularly true in the case of photos which may have some commercial value (like those used on cover art) or photos appearing in other publications (including appearing online) prior to being uploaded to Commons. Anyway, the file has been restored by Túrelio and is now being discussed at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg. Most likely all that is going to be needed for the file to be kept is for the copyright holder to email their consent to Wikimedia VRT for verification purposes as explained in COM:VRT#Licensing images: when do I contact VRT?. As for my original post above, the message was to Jeff G., not you, and it was simply to let him know that Fragmentsforart had posted a message for him on their user talk page, and not an attempt to respond on your behalf. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:31, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
I have worked as an editor for many years on wiki, I am a donor and am aware of the rules. If someone makes a correction that is necessary or enhances what I have done i have no problem correcting or deleting. If it is their mistake i expect it fixed and I will email everyone I can to get it corrected Paulhus15 (talk) 16:27, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, sorry for this impromptu modification. Did you see your authorization section is broken ? "Autorisation {" ?! Gzen92 [discuter] 12:48, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

@Gzen92: Right, I sorted out the problem in these and succeeding edits, but I never fixed my /temp because it was temporary, waiting for the next situation that could only be researched on-wiki with substing or something else unforseen.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:52, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
