Pay attention to copyright
File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

This Photo was taken by myself in a casual photoshoot with the artist Michael Anthony Caruso for his use and promotion… we are very dear friends… and if he wants to put it on Wikipedia he certainly can… its his image and it was taken by me… Thank you for the statement that it looks like a professional photo… if you have any other questions please feel free to contact either Michael or Myself here… I am not going to create an account to answer your questions…. I personally did not copyright this image so you would have to contact Michael to see if he did… I do not beleive there is a copyright attached to this photo unless he added one later. What can you tell us about the dates and countries of photography and publication? Please read COM:EVID.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:17, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fragmentsforart, nowadays any work (of art)/photography is automatically copyrighted. Times when it required a registration (US-only) are long gone. So, if you are the photographer, the authorship and copyright is with you. Of course, you can give the copyright to others. --Túrelio (talk) 21:11, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion and clarification might be continued here: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg. --Túrelio (talk) 21:11, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Fragmentsforart. Although Túrelio did restore the file and did re-add it to en:Michael Caruso (musician), he did so that there can be further discussion (see the notification Túrelio left below) about the file. So, if you want to clarify anything about the file's licensing, you should do so in that discussion because it can still end up deleted. I think the best way for you to ensure that the file is kept would be to simply send a COM:CONSENT email to COM:VRT as explained here. If you do that and your consent is verified by a VRT member, Template:Permission ticket will be added to the file's page and the file will be kept. Before you email your consent, however, you might want to look carefully at COM:L, COM:LRV and COM:REUSE to make sure you understand what giving your consent means. Your original intention might've been to allow your friend Michale Caruso to use the photo as he pleased, but uploading it to Commons essentially means you're allowing everyone in the world to use the photo as they please as long as they comply with the terms of the license you choose. If it turns out that someone starts using the photo in way that you or Caruso doesn't like, then you're going to have a hard time stopping them as long as they comply with the terms of the license. You'll also be on your own if that happens because the Wikimedia Foundation is unlikely going to step in to try and stop such people. So, if you've got any doubts at all about this, you might want to think carefully about sending in your consent. Since Caruso is using the photo for promotional purposes, there might be commercial considerations involved that could be affected by giving your consent; so, this may be something else you and he should take into consideration. For reference, you won't be transferring you copyright to Commons or anyone else, you'll just be making a freely licensed version of the available for others to easily use without their needing to seek your permission to do so each time they want to use it in some way. You can find some more information about Creative Commons licenses and what they mean here. Please note that Commons doesn't accept any Creative Commons license that places restrictions on commercial or derivative reuse; so, NC, ND, or NC-ND types of licenses are not going to be accepted by Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:50, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File:Michael Anthony Caruso.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
