Good afternoon Jeff,

Here are more informations about the .blend file format: -yes, it is open-source as blender; the software that creates it; -no, it can not be opened in other softwares but everybody can get blender, open the file for free and convert it into several standard formats; -it can be rendered by webGL using the addon called 'blend4web'; -it is very well documented and will be supported in the future; blender has evolved a lot since 2019 and the community is stronger than ever; -.blend files are shared on the 'blendswap' webpage — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melodicpinpon (talk • contribs) 17:56, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why i have been warned ?[edit]

Please let me know why I have been advised of copyright violence. I have not done any things that have been advised by the editor since August. --aDHi..Talk 11:20, 2 January 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrakashAdhikari (talk • contribs) 11:20, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging[edit]

Hello Jeff,

Happy new year. You pinged me in a discussion relating to the WPWP Campaign but for some strange reasons, I missed the ping. What's up? Could you provide a link to the discussion? Thank you. T CellsTalk 07:48, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@T Cells: Hi again, and Happy New Year to you, as well. I pinged you as a frequent editor of ‎m:Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in this edit on 4 November 2020 (UTC) in reply to Wouterhagens, since archived to Commons:Village pump/Archive/2020/11#‎Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Results. I seem to remember having verified that the ‎m:Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos/Results page didn't exist, but it seems now that your team had already posted the results to that page by 6 October 2020.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:31, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Jeff. You are right that we posted the results on the 6th of October 2020. Thanks for the ping, anyway. Please stay safe. Regards. T CellsTalk 22:02, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate photographs[edit]

Hello Jeff. I need some help with a few pictures that don’t belong on here. Can you help a new user? JohnB232 (talk) 23:52, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@JohnB232: Sure, which pictures and why are they inappropriate?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:54, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dream International Pictures[edit]

Can you please not send bogus warnings to that user? I'm fine with you converting my tag to a copyvio, but warnings for spam and copyvio is way out of the line. Assume good faith.

Also, I prefer if you'd stop repeating what I am saying on Commons talk:Abuse filter. It just worsens the signal-to-noise ratio. Thanks, pandakekok9 03:04, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your warning on spam is unfair because the film poster in itself is not spam nor advertising; it could be useful if the film is notable in Wikipedia. Also, a warning for copyvio should only be used if the user uploaded multiple copyvios, which they clearly haven't. By drowning them with warnings which they shouldn't have in the first place, you are driving a potentially productive contributor away from Commons. pandakekok9 03:08, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pandakekok9: {{Fcs}} is neither bogus nor final. That account has only been used to promote a motion picture production company and one of their motion pictures, and is NOTHERE. Your posts on COM:FILTERT have not been sufficiently informative. Film posters are inherently promotional, they are designed to lure people to theatres to watch the films. Also, please cite your source for "a warning for copyvio should only be used if the user uploaded multiple copyvios", as source template en:Template:Uw-ics1 has had "one" in it for nearly 9 years since this edit 05:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:14, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mass deletion[edit]

Instead of mass deletion request you could check my photos. You could read creator of File:دختر لر.jpg is Ardeshir Irani. He diead in 1969 (over 50 years ago) and movie released in 1933 (88 years ago).

Also you didn't even see newspapers published over 30 years ago.

You just applied for mass deletion.Shkuru Afshar (talk) 08:52, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Shkuru Afshar: I went through all your uploads for the past two years individually. In no case did you satisfy the requirements of {{PD-Iran}}.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:57, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

At least you could read images information. You even applied for File:SabetPasal Palace-old.jpg deletion. It is not even {{PD-Iran}} and you could see the link and name of the photographer.

Plus you could read some of my previous explanations. Like Samad Behrandi died in 1967 and you apply for deletion again. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 09:01, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is funny that even you apply the photo that I took with my own phonefile:Qazvin, Tehran City Gates-2016.10.28, 12.12.36.jpg for deletion. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 09:03, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:HAARP ionogram (Farsi-Persian).png, File:Boeing 727 flight control surfaces (Farsi-Persian).png, File:Flight dynamics with text (Farsi-Persian).png, File:Alieron A-44 (PSF) (Farsi-Persian).png I just translated this photos and uploaded with exact same copyright tag. Username policy[edit]

Hi, Jeff G. wondering if you could take a look at the edits by this user? Wondering if this username is suitable. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 16:05, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lotje: Account locked, files tagged.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:12, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jeff, are you sure this account is globally blocked? (as suggested by your userpage-tagging) As far as I can see, it is only blocked on :en. In addition, this account is verified on :de. So, we might discuss whether the uploaded content is in scope etc. However, copyright is unlikely a problem. --Túrelio (talk) 07:51, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Túrelio: Deustche was locked by Ruslik0 on 12 January, only to unlock it on the next day with the reason Unlocking at request. For some reason, you can't see the locking logs when you're at Commons' CentralAuth. You will have to look at Meta for that. pandakekok9 07:56, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. So, it's no longer globally locked, which would be strange for a verified account. --Túrelio (talk) 08:11, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Túrelio and Pandakekok9: Thanks. They were indeffed on enwiki 18:12, 12 January 2021 (UTC) by HickoryOughtShirt?4 for reasons of spam and username, and attempted unblock as 88.205.123.81. They need to declare their paid editor status on every project they wish to edit in order to comply with Foundation:Terms of Use, except those listed at m:Alternative paid contribution disclosure policies, which strangely includes Commons, but not German or English Wikipedias. They also need to comply with username policies at each project.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:14, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We never had any problem with paid editing. In fact, it would be detrimental to us if we insist that they disclose payment, because GLAMs and uploads from Wikipedians-in-residence are one of our major sources of content. Which is why we do not require any disclosure of paid contributions. pandakekok9 11:43, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
+1 Commons is fine with paid editing and there is no policy for disclosure. We also do not 'broadcast' that fact (apart from stating it very clearly at Commons:Paid contribution disclosure policy). Commons is also far more flexible around account naming. Shared role accounts for project activities like mass uploads from museums, has been fine in the past.
It is also the case that Commons does not punish accounts for issues like paid editing policies on sister projects. We have not even banned Donald Trump.

DR[edit]

Hi! I've noted user has only one edition, in the DR. In esWP we've got a template for this kind of situations (votes per users with few or none editions). Is there anything like that in Commons? --Ganímedes (talk) 13:02, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Jeff, I received a message from you stating that I have received multiple warnings from editors about posting copyrighted material. I do not recall receiving any such editorial warnings, as opposed to notifications of proposed deletions. Could you clarify when these editors' warnings were sent? Please note that I have uploaded over 20,000 of my personal images from dozens of countries around the world, which I am pleased to make available through Wikimedia. It is impossible to anticipate all possible violations of country-specific copyright legislation. If Wikimedia feels certain images need to be removed, that is understandable. However, blocking someone who must surely count among your most dedicated and generous uploaders seems excessive. - Adam Jones — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adam63 (talk • contribs) 19:50, 19 January 2021‎ (UTC)[reply]

The warnings inside User talk:Adam63/Archive 1#File:Education or Slavery - Street Mural - Buenos Aires - Argentina.jpg, User talk:Adam63/Archive 1#File:Portrait of Bertolt Brecht by Hans Tombrock (1940) - Bert-Brecht-Haus - Augsburg - Germany (9271622514).jpg, and User talk:Adam63/Archive 1#File:My Man Doesn't Need Turtle Eggs - Playa y Laguna La Ventanilla - Oaxaca - Mexico (6522927363).jpg (for example) all read "Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing." Inviting you to join the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons![edit]

Dear Jeff G.,

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a draft policy (available in many languages). We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am perfectly aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 11:16, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
