License cleanup

Hi Jeff, seeing your edit i wonder if one should cleanup all these files similarly? I could do it if you like. Regards, --Arnd (talk) 13:35, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Aschroet: better make a template for that I think because the 3.0 license also needs a license review. And perhaps they will add 4.0 later. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:59, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
@Aschroet: I agree with Alexis Jazz on this.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 15:47, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Please check this file's ticket

Hi Jeff G. Please kindly check the OTRS permission status of this file w:File:Adamu Garba II.jpg uploaded on enwiki. There are some issues that need to be resolved there and we need to verify this. Thanks. Ammarpad (talk) 06:07, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

@Ammarpad: Hi. Thanks for asking. I have addressed your concern at en:User talk:Aghachi7#File:Adamu Garba II.jpg.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 09:20, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hollywood to you OTRS

I asked http://hollywoodtoyou.com to give us permission to take screenshots of their videos with a free license for Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Media from Hollywood To You. Can you check if anything arrived in the OTRS inbox last week from or containing "hollywood to you" (case insensitive), "hollywoodtoyou", "hollywoodtoyou.com" or "hollywoodtou.vids.io"? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 10:33, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: Sorry, nothing found. Please ask for a copy to you on all such messages.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 10:53, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I try to confuse copyright holders as little as possible and I don't want them to accidentically send their permission to me. It's kind of confusing that I am contacting them, yet they should contact another party to give permission. But thanks for checking. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:18, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz: You're welcome. "Please copy me on your email message for tracking" and "Please keep me in the loop" work. Keeping yourself in the dark doesn't work.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 11:47, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
"Keep me in the loop" is a good one, I'll use that next time. It's not that I purposefully want to keep myself in the dark, but I don't want to confuse them or make them think I am OTRS. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:54, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Stop reporting pictures I upload to which I have the rights. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsbach111111 (talk • contribs) 23:18, 5 September 2018‎ (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. You've added {{OTRS Permission}} for ticket #2011011410009399 to this file, but there is still quite a bit of disagreement as to the validity of the ticket per both en:User talk:Yunshui/Archive 56#OTRS verification request, en:User talk:Yunshui/Archive 56#Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 June 5#Non-free road signs used in list article and en:Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 June 14#Non-free road signs used in list article where at least one other OTRS volunteer claims that the ticket is not sufficient for OTRS purposes and the discussion was closed as keeping the file as non-free content. Has there been a recent development in which the ticket was confirmed again by the copyright holder? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:40, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: No, I think it's ok as it stands. Do you disagree?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 02:26, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
I'm not an OTRS volunteer, so all I can go by is what OTRS volunteers have said. You feel the ticket is OK, but at least two OTRS volunteers, Yunshui and JJMC89, (possibly three since Jcb also seemed to feel that the ticket was a bit iffy) have expressed concerns about the ticket's validity. So, if there's not a clear agreement among OTRS volunteers, then maybe the use of the ticket should be put on hold until a clear consensus can be established that it actually is OK. I don't know how OTRS volunteers do such a thing since most things related to OTRS are private, but perhaps there's a discussion board which OTRS uses to discuss things like this internally. Yunshui mentioned that there is a mailing list, so I am just curious as to whether a consensus was established via hat list that the ticket is OK. Absent such a clear consensus, I think that the close of Commons:Deletion requests/File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png might need to be revisted since the only reason that file was kept seems to have been this ticket. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:35, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't think using the ticket is okay since there is no release of any works under a specific, free license. I've commented on OTRSwiki. — JJMC89(T·C) 21:20, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
I was asked to comment on this by Marchjuly and I'd have to agree here. For all the points that JJMC89 raised on otrswiki. There is no specific license statement and the license is from a saskatchewan government email address. If anything it should only apply to those road signs, this one is for British Columbia. A completely different province. The lack of any actual statement of a license is also a concern. The most concerning part of the email is The Ministry views your proposal as no different than a journalist or photographer taking images and then publishing them in a newspaper, periodical, on an website or via some other electronic communications vehicle. Except we are not any of those things. --Majora (talk) 00:03, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
@Marchjuly, JJMC89, and Majora: Thank you all for your input. I have commented at otrswiki:2011011410009399. Kindly maintain the confidentiality of the ticket and the OTRS Wiki.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 10:00, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. Erik Skindrud / @Erik_Bookman here. My Twitter handle is a bit different from my name. I can assure you I took the photo -- the location is just a few blocks from my work. It's my first Wiki edit -- can you help me add proper permissions? Just don't know what to do! @Eskindrud: You could quickly tweet that File:Toynbee Tile Los Angeles.jpg is licensed {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} (or all your photos are) and tell us the URL of the tweet. You could also email permission via OTRS, tag the file {{subst:OP}}, and wait months.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 04:53, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. As I mentioned, I deleted the flickr post that why the license is not recoverable. I can't get the same upload even if I re-create. Let me know the next steps for speedy deletion. Rollback

Why did you rollback my edit here. Rollback should only be used to revert obvious vandalism. Pkbwcgs (talk) 08:54, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

It looks like you have undone your rollback. I assume it was accidental anyway. Pkbwcgs (talk) 08:55, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:North Korea Victory Day 070 (9463134291).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
