Hi Jcb, you have deleted this coat of arms, saying it is a copyvio from an nc-nd-file from araldicacivica.it somewhere else. But in fact the coat of arms of this city is centuries old, it dates back to the early medieval ages. Thus the nc-nd license on the website is wrong. Please restore this file. Chaddy (talk) 06:36, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you provide some evidence that this depiction of the CoA would be "centuries old"? Jcb (talk) 15:34, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no need that this depiction has to be centuries old. This depecition is nothing else than the implementation of the blazon thus it does not have any own level of originality. Chaddy (talk) 17:14, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are mistaken. Every separate depiction of a CoA has their own copyright. Jcb (talk) 17:29, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you are mistaken... Putting together ordinary heraldic symbols after a blazon with not any room for originality is not enough to create any copyright protection. Chaddy (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no answer is also an answer...
I don't have the time to dispute with you. Could you please at least send me the file und the file description, so that I can reupload it on German Wikipedia? Also it would be fine to have a list of the file usage in German Wikipedia. Chaddy (talk) 01:43, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You can see deleted usage here. I am not going to assist you in committing copyright violation at the German wiki. Jcb (talk) 15:25, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, that's annoying, Jcb... According to German law official coat of arms are always free, so you do not assist me in committing copyright violation at the German wiki. So would you be so kind to perform my request? Chaddy (talk) 19:55, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you think German copyright would apply to an Italian CoA? Jcb (talk) 22:21, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because of en:Lex loci protectionis (or more detailed in the German article de:Schutzlandprinzip). Chaddy (talk) 00:34, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You make two separate fundamental mistakes here:
  1. In copyright conventions, most countries of the world have agreed that they would respect the copyright protection of the country of origin.
  2. German Wikipedia is not Wikipedia in Germany. It's the version of Wikipedia in German language. As far as I know, none of the Wikimedia servers is situated in Germany. All traffic from Germany goes via the servers in the Netherlands.
German copyright regulations are completely irrelevant for this file. Jcb (talk) 00:41, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, are you kidding me? I am a copyright expert in German Wikipedia since more than 10 years. But you think you know our rules in German Wikipedia better than me? Thanks for nothing. I will ask another admin to help me. Chaddy (talk) 14:59, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are a lot of self proclaimed experts around here, I am not impressed. Jcb (talk) 15:17, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bad name template[edit]

Hey Jcb, you deleted two categories I made because someone (IMHO, incorrectly) placed a bad name template on them, but without even a link to the alleged duplicate. I don't think that's how things are supposed to work. - Themightyquill (talk) 09:54, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if a category is nominated for deletion, it's quite simple: empty --> delete / non-empty --> keep. If you disagree with the way how it became empty, please discuss this with the user who made it empty. Jcb (talk) 15:36, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Guy.lebegue 1986.jpg I'm trying to understand why this file was deleted a first time when an authorization dated from 2009, was and is still present on the page, and I see it as valid, but it's still inexplicable for me. So the second authorization, almost identical and also valid, is added on the page. I'm sorry about the time, but I still don't get it. --Framawiki (please notify) (talk) 18:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You added a blue OTRS tag, which means that permission has been received, but is not yet accepted. This tag grants 30 days to sort things out. Probably you just used the wrong template? No problem, we all make mistakes. Jcb (talk) 21:24, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Amanita Magniverrucata 510593.jpg free emergency image to be marked[edit]

Dear Admin Jcb,

Can you kindly mark the above image which I uploaded above, please?

Secondly, I uploaded this image because I had to launch a Deletion Request on a heavily used image of the same mushroom. I made a comment in this DR. Can it be proven if trusted user Raeky uploaded this October 2010 image under DR...rather than Fan of Zhirkov? If Raeky uploaded the image, it could be passed (on Raeky's behalf) since he was made a trusted user in 2008 and a trusted user's uploads are grandfathered if uploaded before 2012. Raeky unfortunately left Wikicommons after August 2013. I don't know who is telling the truth....but I think the uploader is not Raeky. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:24, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The file has been reviewed by someone else in the meantime. I agree with your DR. Jcb (talk) 12:00, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted poster image[edit]

Why have you deleted the file:Tomasz Wójcik - Bhavagad Gita.jpg? This poster image had the same OTRS number, like for example:Tomasz Wójcik - Pharaoh.jpg. Please restore the deleted file. --Szczebrzeszynski (talk) 15:16, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Tomasz Wójcik - Bhagavad Gita.jpg was marked by Ankry 4 December as OTRS received but not completed. This means deletion after 30 days if nothing happens in the meantime. The ticket is in Polish, a language I don't speak, so that I have to trust our Polish speaking colleague. Jcb (talk) 17:29, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The file was nominated for deletion. There was no discussion, despite me commenting on the talk page. You haven't addressed my comments, allowing me to discuss the issue, you haven't explained deletion beyond a one word edit summary "logo". This was never an official logo, I made it using purely CC0 material, it is markedly different from existing logos while trying to convey the general impression of the school. Bellezzasolo (talk) 19:24, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is not the official logo, but a hobby creation, then it's out of scope. Jcb (talk) 22:16, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
COM:INUSE Bellezzasolo (talk) 17:26, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It was not in use according to the delinker bot. Jcb (talk) 17:28, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's mistaken. [1] Bellezzasolo (talk) 17:48, 8 January 2018 (UTC).[reply]
Furthermore, it would no longer fall under COM:SPEEDY, so should immediately be reinstated. Bellezzasolo (talk) 17:52, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't mistaken, if there is a local copy at English wikipedia, usage at that project does not show up here. Please be aware that user pages and talk pages are explicitly exclused from COM:INUSE per the last sentence of that section. Jcb (talk) 18:12, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"The uploading of small numbers of images (e.g. of yourself) for use on a personal user page of Commons or another project is allowed as long as that user is or was an active participant on that project." Pretty unambiguous to me, the local copy only exits because of your deletion. Bellezzasolo (talk) 23:30, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"It should be stressed that Commons does not exist to editorialise on other projects – that an image is in use on a non talk/user page is enough for it to be within scope."I see why you think you are right, but you are not. This clause to which you refer explicity prohibits a scope argument being used on media that is in the main namespace. i.e. Use in the namespace automatically means in scope. It doesn't mean the reverse - use on a user page means automatically out of scope, which should be clear from the (otherwise dichotomy that is) the previous sentence. Bellezzasolo (talk) 23:34, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@99of9: , What is your opinion? Sorry for involving you, but Jcb has gone quiet for a bit. Bellezzasolo (talk) 12:19, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
'Gone quiet'? WTF? I am not at your service 24 hours a day. I have to sleep, go to work to make a living, spend time with family, etc. I am online when I find time, which is almost daily. About the INUSE, you used that as an argument for undeletion, but that argument has no value when the use is not on a non talk/user page. I see no reason to undelete the file. Jcb (talk) 15:56, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I may have been hasty, but I want this resolved fairly quickly. The file was deleted as an alleged COPYVIO. Seeing as it's not, it shouldn't have been speedy deleted in the first place. Frankly, the inuse discussion should be occuring on a live image. However, policy clearly states that
"The uploading of small numbers of images (e.g. of yourself) for use on a personal user page of Commons or another project is allowed as long as that user is or was an active participant on that project."
I think no more needs stating than the above. The image is not COPYVIO and is INSCOPE.
If deleting an image incorrectly then meant a higher standard for reinclusion, it would leave deletion open for clear abuse of power.
Bellezzasolo (talk) 18:00, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am not restoring it. End of discussion. Jcb (talk) 22:09, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Foto[edit]

Jcb (talk) 15:55, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Potentieel sokpop[edit]

Hi Jcb, one week ago you blocked Historypictures (talk · contribs). Looking at the activity of Oldgrandman1800 (talk · contribs) here in Commons I got the impression that the "footpronts" of both users are very similar. Therefore I asked a checkuser on the Spanish Wikipedia whether these users were identical, and I received the answer "clear positive relationship". The pictures from both users are inserted into many articles via IPv6 sockpuppets using private templates, the automatic erasure of the filenames by a bot leaves articles with syntactical errors which is rather annoying.

Best regards. --Jkbw (talk) 21:20, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have indef blocked both accounts and removed the uploads of the sock. Jcb (talk) 22:22, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Description of blazon[edit]

Hi Jcb (talk, contribs), today, by mistake, I think, you have changed the description on the next page : [[2]]. However, in the project "blazons" of Wikimedia, I believe that the heading "description" is always devoted to the heraldic description of the blazons. The question to know if a family belongs - or not - to nobility has nothing to see with the fact it wears coat of arms, by the way. So I think it is appropriate to return to the simple, non-controversial description of this coat of arms. Which I did tonight. Best regards, —Κοινὴ διάλεκτος (talk, contribs) 22:35, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your edit, because you removed the license, after which the file fell into a problem category. Jcb (talk) 22:24, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation.

Hi, Jcb. You deleted File:171028 평창 뮤직페스타 - 제니(블랙핑크) 'STAY' 4K 60P 직캠 by DaftTaengk (3).png last month as a copyright violation. The video does now show a Standard YouTube License. Hello Jcb,
I do not understand the deleting of this image. As you can see (here) it was a derivative Commons image. It seems to me that I have checked the license myself before adding it here. And also, I can not find the delete request page for this image. Regards--Ghybu (talk) 18:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The license of all these images were good (they were derived commons images)--Ghybu (talk) 18:50, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The file was uploaded by a multiple copyvio uploader. My attention to this user was drawn when File:Thyroid hormones ku.png landed in a problem category. I checked a selection of their uploads and all seemed copyvio. That's why I flushed their uploads. I will have a look at this individual file. Jcb (talk) 21:19, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This individual file seems fine. Please let me know if there are more files that should be considered for undeletion. Jcb (talk) 21:22, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is difficult for me to say which images are correct if all were deleted without prior discussion. But I still think that all the images were correct, maybe one or two that I did not see or wrongly judged. Indeed, I myself created this category (before deletion more than 70 or 80 files and now 5 files) and I checked and corrected many licenses. The majority of the images were simple translations of images from Commons. So I think we need to restore all the images and request deletions on a case-by-case.
I would also like to see this image to check the origin: File:Thyroid hormones ku.png.
And concerning the user, at the beginning (new user) he had problems for the for the image Licensing but after I have not observed a lof problems.
--Ghybu (talk) 22:04, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I checked at least 10 files and none of them was fine. E.g. File:Thyroid hormones ku.png was clearly not fine. When a user keeps uploading copyright violations, there comes a point where we are not going to spend our time to check one by one every single upload (in this case over 100). We check a selection and if that selection is copyvio we flush their uploads. Individual files can be restored if needed as you have seen. Jcb (talk) 22:13, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand but the vast majority of the images I saw were good. I can take care of this verification after restoration.--Ghybu (talk) 22:25, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will see if I can take a look tomorrow, now working on a different task. Jcb (talk) 22:29, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I found at least several files that would be fine. I will look at the files one by one in the next few days, to see what I can undelete. Jcb (talk) 15:50, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I also did a little check with google cache: this can make your search easier... And among those who are not translations of Commons images: I remember seeing a lot of images with good licenses.--Ghybu (talk) 03:06, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I will double check with your list when I am finished. Jcb (talk) 15:27, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghybu: I have reviewed all the files. Only three of the files you marked green were not undeleted. They did not contain a link to a source file and were claimed to be own work. Jcb (talk) 22:37, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks.--Ghybu (talk) 22:43, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would also like to ask you another question: the images that here, they were all checked. They have all been added by Dûrzan cîrano with the lisans {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}} {{GFDL}}. I was wondering if there was a bot that could upload them to Commons directly. Thanks--Ghybu (talk) 17:14, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio?[edit]

Not sure how this was ever a copyvio. FWIW it's been reuploaded. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:58, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I flushed the uploads of a mass copyvio uploader, but later it turned out that several files were just translations of files already on Commons. I have examined them one by one and restored some of the files. This file would have been restored as well if the copyvio uploader would not have chosen to create a sockpuppet for block evasion and to reupload two of the files themself. Canadian road sign photos[edit]

Hi Jcb. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind hopping in your time machine and traveling back to January 2011. You closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:YellowheadShield.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:RedCoatTrail.png as keep. So, I'm wondering if the free license/OTRS permission for those two files might also possibly cover File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png, en:File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway.png and en:File:Yellowhead.png for the Yellowhead file, and en:File:Red Coat Trail highway shield.png for the Redcoat file.

If the Yellowhead imagery is considered PD or released under a free license, then maybe the two non-free files on Wikipedia can also be converted to the same licensing; if not, however, then I'm not sure if Commons should even keep "File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png" per COM:CB#Road signs since it would then seem to be a derivative of a copyrighted image. I've asked about this at COM:VP/C#File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png, but haven't gotten a response yet.

I am also wondering about the Redcoat file since the non-free seems to be pretty much the same logo without the yellowing/graying of the photo. If the primary imagery is PD or considered freely licensed, then again the non-free version could probably be treated the same way.

One thing that might matter is that the files you kept seem to be photos of the signs, and not software created files of the signs. The routes they indicate also seem to pass through different Canadian Provinces so I'm not sure whether being freely licensed by one province means freely licensed in all provinces. Any clarification/insight you might be able to provide would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:55, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The ticket contains a general permission from the Canadian Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, regarding all their traffic signs. Please be aware that the ticket is not complying our current standards, so that one day we could get questions about this permission. Jcb (talk) 12:21, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jcb. Could you clarify what you mean by "the ticket is not complying [with] our current standards"? I'm trying to decide whether File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png should be further discussed via COM:DR to verify its licensing. If simply adding {{OTRS permission}} to the file would resolve the Yellowhead imagery copyright question, then a DR is most likely not needed; if not, then I think it might be. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:21, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no explicit release or license, the Ministry declares that their permission is not needed at all for any usage. And they advise that you should not bring yourself into danger to make such a picture. Jcb (talk) 15:47, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Hmmm...then that sounds to me like the Ministry is saying/implying that the signs are in the public domain for some reason. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:19, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what it looks like. Jcb (talk) 21:57, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jcb. Just to let you know, I started Commons:Deletion requests/File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png to see if this can be sorted out one way or another. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:43, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Panoramio ID 2875355[edit]

Hello.
How did happen that files from the fourth offensive against Dmitry Sklarenko (warning, a slow page with at least five mass requests) were entirely wiped out after only 57 hours from creation of the mass delreq? Being skeptical before noticing this timing, I now lean to Tuvalkin’s statement that you were “duped”. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 11:22, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Basically over 99% of these files were useless. Till now only very few files out of several thousands were identified as usefull. These files were criticlessly mass uploaded, apparently without any human review. I know the DR is so large that it e.g. makes the day page hardly accessible. That's why I closed the 3rd DR a few hours early (not after 4 days as Tm somehow wrongly calculated, but after six and a half days). In the fourth DR I saw that all the files were uploaded by User:Panoramio upload bot, so that any comment on individual files was not to be expected. In e.g. the 1st DR, two manual transfers by NickK were involved, which I kept. Flooding Commons with thousands of useless files in the hope that a handful of usefull files will be between them is disruptive rather than helpful. If you can indicate individual deleted files that could be usefull, please let me know, so that they can be undeleted. Jcb (talk) 16:05, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Verwijdering Hongaarse postzegels[edit]

This work is not covered by copyright. According to the Hungarian copyright act of 1999:

File:Ozan Varol wiki img.jpg[edit]

Hi,

I am trying to get an image uploaded for Ozan Varol's wikipedia page and the first one I uploaded was deleted because of a copyright issue on https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/850715417391751169/OoxCGNqH.jpg. Ozan has never had an article on pbs.org and never permitted them to use that image. I have sent an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org that details his ownership of the copyright and permission to use the image. There is also an email from Ozan Varol himself, explaining that I am authorized to act on behalf on this matter. Could you please review and let me know if there are any other issues preventing that image from being accepted? The ticket # on the email is [Ticket#: 2018012410011434].

Import from Arabic projects[edit]

Hi Jcb! I saw you notified me on my talk page regarding Copyright status about File:36 الأخلاق والسير.jpg File:43 الأخلاق والسير.jpg File:محمد باقر المهري.JPG. Unfortunately, even with the reasons, you gave me I wasn't able to understand the problem. What I did was simply moving files from Arabic projects to Commons using For the good common software. Please give me specific reasons (e.g. Author in Summary should not be empty even if it's in the PD. I'm going (or a bot) to add about 5000 pictures and I really don't want to handle a lot of delete proposals. --Helmoony (talk) 03:13, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently you already found out what the problem was? But I see a different problem as well. You uploaded the file as 'own work by original uploader', but as 'PD because author died over 70 years ago'. Those statements cannot both be true, because Wikipedia/Wikimedia did not exist 70 years ago. You will have to provide information to explain why {PD-old} would apply. JPG has still no license per COM:L. Jcb (talk) 10:28, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Italian rugby photos[edit]

The person you referred to as "some communications person" is the man who has the authority to release those photos. Although they were taken by Daniele Resini of some photography agency, the copyright is held by the Italian Rugby Federation and thus Andrea Cimbrico is perfectly within his rights to release them to us for publication here. PeeJay2K3 (talk) 13:43, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That claim has yet to be supported by evidence. OTRS is the place to provide such evidence. Jcb (talk) 13:46, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, re: Commons:Deletion requests/Images by User:Giedremeshka - you forgot to delete the image linked in the title File:Degtdfhbgf.png. I think it's my fault, I think I miss-formatted the nomination... but can you delete that one as well? Thanks, Renata3 (talk) 17:38, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification, I have deleted the file. In principle there is nothing wrong with the format, but a file in the title often is overlooked, because often in the title there is a user name of the uploader or a category linked instead. Jcb (talk) 21:44, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand, that file was licensed properly, public domain of Iran, all the photos that I have uploaded and are not my own works are under this license. The photos that are published publicly in Iran more than 30 years ago, i.e Taj Milz Cup that was published in 1970. What seems to be the problem particulary about that certain file and not all these others? Cheers Vathlu (talk) 06:28, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

George Monbiot portrait deletion - please advise[edit]

Hello,

Apologies that I have to write in English. I'm an absolute wiki novice and recently edited George Monbiot's page. To let you know of any COI issues, I work for George, and am simply trying in this instance to reinstate the portrait that I added last year (the previous portrait was 20+ years old).

The link below seems to indicate that it's been deleted due to lack of permissions. Please would you advise how I demonstrate that we do have the photographer's permission to use this image?

The photographer's name is John Russell (he requests that we credit him on the image). He licensed the picture to Wikimedia Commons with the express purpose of us using it on George's page. Have we missed a step that we should have taken? Please help, as I'm very confused by this.

Best wishes ~~

File:Dubai Opera 2.jpg[edit]

Hi Jcb!

Since you have just deleted File:Dubai Opera 2.jpg, could you take a look at the other pictures in the Category:Dubai Opera? I'm not sure about the rules regarding interior shots of buildings, but I believe similar rules as with exterior shots apply. I am however not certain, so I did not nominate them for deletion.

Greetings, CorrectHorseBatteryStaple (talk) 14:39, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Probably all of them are problematic, except for maybe File:Dubai Opera.jpg and File:Dubai Opera 01.jpg (depicted objects too simple). In general for countries with FoP, this does not apply inside buildings. In countries without FoP, the rules for outside and inside are the same. Jcb (talk) 22:01, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Would you recommend marking them for deletion or is there another process on Commons to evaluate these files? --CorrectHorseBatteryStaple (talk) 11:54, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi colleague, while it's true that this file has currently no license, I had opened the DR Commons:Deletion requests/File:Postcard of the Blackstone of Miami Beach Florida.jpg in order to discuss whether it might not be PD-US. However, I hadn't added that template, as I'm not sure about it. --Túrelio (talk) 17:50, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added the tagging to make sure that the file would be deleted after 7 days if a license would still be absent. DRs can last for months, see e.g. Category:Deletion requests November 2017. Jcb (talk) 21:10, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask the photographer to contact OTRS. Jcb (talk) 14:00, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly is the reason for deleting this image without discussion or notification? The edit comment accompanying the deletion is cryptic, and provides no rationale. This is an image of text on the cover of a book that is no longer under copyright. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:44, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

While the cover itself may be PD due to its age, the picture of the 3D book isn't. This picture was grabbed from the web and uploaded here. Jcb (talk) 20:50, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The cover is 2D. It may be wrapped around a 3D object, but it is still 2D. There should have been a discussion prior to deletion. Also, I find nothing in the link accompanying the deletion "edit" to indicate any rationale for deletion, nothing there to support your reasoning above. The deleted image was neither artwork nor a building. --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:13, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pages you should read: Commons:When_to_use_the_PD-Art_tag#This_does_not_apply_to_photographs_of_3D_works_of_art and Commons:Copyright_rules_by_subject_matter#3D_art_(sculptures_etc.). Jcb (talk) 16:55, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of the principles to what you linked. My points, which you seem to have missed, are that (1) a book cover is inherently a 2D object, so the principles regarding 3D objects do not apply, and (2) no rationale for deletion was given in the "edit" for deletion. This should have had a discussion first. --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:44, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are wrong on both points. First this is obviously not a 2D production of a 2D work. As long as permission from the photographer is missing, we cannot host the file. Second, as visible in the log, I did enter a deletion reason: "Copyright violation; see Commons:Licensing: http://pictures.abebooks.com/BLAEU/3399992344.jpg". 'Copyright violation' is a valid reason for speedy deletion, no discussion is needed. Jcb (talk) 15:25, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Starship 420 Graphics accidently deleted?[edit]

Hey JCB,

My graphics were deleted off of Starship 420 again. I am the sole copyright holder of all Starship 420 and have given permission to use these freely to the public, this is the third time I have gone threw this. I have submitted my permission with OTR, the graphics keep getting reestablished but a few day later another member will delete them and I have to go threw this again. What can I do to get this to stop? Please help...

All Starship 420 works has email to OTRS today detailing permissions for all my work. [Ticket#: 2018012810003767] Patrick Casey Dillistone

Also if it makes things easier, most images are directly from our official websites. I give this work freely as I am the sole copyright owner.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Merclove (talk • contribs) 03:29, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I have not access to the permission system, and there is a queue. therefore I can do nothing regarding the ticket, but if the images are deleted before a valid permission is processed/added to the files, then the files will be restored. And yes it can makes thing easier if a free compatible license is added to the official website. All images, as well as the compatible license, must be visible on website, let me know if this is the case otherwise the ticket when it will have been verified and validated may be sufficient. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:46, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

I hereby affirm that I, Patrick Casey Dillistone, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the work depicted in the media attached to this email. Please patiently wait until an OTRS agent handles the ticket. Do not reupload the files. If the permission is valid, the OTRS agent will take care of undeletion. Jcb (talk) 21:02, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jcb (talk) 15:37, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jcb. Is File:Medilife TV Logo.png the same as File:Medilife-logo.png which you deleted on December 30, 2017? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's a different image from the same uploader. Jcb (talk) 15:31, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:43, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photographs deleted from Wikimedia Commons[edit]

On January 28 you eliminated from Wikimedia Commons a certain number of photographs I had uploaded. Then you made changes in my own page in Wikipedia, as well as my father's, to eliminate the photographs that were accessed there.

In November I sent an e-mail to Permissions-es@wikimedia.org to explain that I have the copyright of all those photographs and therefore everything was correct. This is my e-mail:

> > Manuel Alfonseca Moreno > > https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Alfonseca_Moreno

They answered with an e-mail where they had assigned a ticket number to my request, [Ticket#2017111910002473], acknowledging that my message was very well structured and made things easy for them.

Apparently, things are not so easy, since you have now deleted everything. Can you explain what else I must do, so that Wikimedia knows that I have the copyright of those photographs and therefore they shouldn't be deleted?

Regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfonsec (talk • contribs) 19:32, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Platonides: Could you have a look at this ticket to see if you can resolve this with this user? Jcb (talk) 21:23, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have sent you a follow-up email, Manuel. Sorry for the inconvenience. Platonides (talk) 01:03, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted vault lights image[edit]

File:Destroyed_vault_lights.jpg has been deleted due to lack of OTRS permission. I've been in contact with both the uploader and the photographer, and the photographer thought he'd filed an OTRS ticket. I think the ticket was also identified by the uploader on the image page. Obviously something has gone wrong. Can you help me identify what? I'm willing to try and sort it out, but I don't know where to start. HLHJ (talk) 02:37, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An OTRS agent sent a follow up message 30 December, but we never recieved an answer. Jcb (talk) 09:53, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'll see if I can sort this out. HLHJ (talk) 03:58, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TTTE&StarWarsFan2018's apology[edit]

I'm sorry I don't know how this works. And I don't want to be terminated this is too hard to find a copyright. Send me a message saying It's OK I understand, DO NOT SAY THAT I'M A BAD USER. IF YOU DO I WILL GET VERY MAD ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 (talk • contribs) 12:25, 9 February 2018‎ (UTC)[reply]

I warned you to not upload copyright violations. If you continue to do so, I will block you. I don't care whether you may get 'very mad'. Jcb (talk) 13:15, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You really want to block me then I will disappear forever. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 (talk • contribs) 21:56, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@TTTE&StarWarsFan2018: Image licensing is tricky and so making mistakes are expected. There's no way, however, that File:Trollz.jpg is {{PD-textlogo}}, so I'm not sure why you would think that it is. In addition, File:HalifaxFilm.jpg, File:Original Cinar logo.png, and File:Cinar Logo.png seem very unlikely to be your "own work". You can't upload images you find online which are created by someone else to Commons as your own work under a CC-by-sa-4.0 license. If you're going to make mistakes like these, then maybe it would be a good idea for you to not upload any more files unitl you have a better grasp of copyright licensing and COM:L.
Also, are you uploading images using multiple accounts. Are you also TTTEFan2017? -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:29, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The answer appears to be "yes," based on this edit and this edit. I don't think the user is doing this maliciously though; it sounds like the intent was to completely abandon the "TTTEFan2017" account. I'll inform the user on their Wikipedia talk page that in the future, they can use request a user name change. Aoi (talk) 20:14, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Aoi: I believe you might be right that TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 is a fairly inexperienced editor not familiar with Commons editing, and not familiar with copyright licenses. Everyone makes good-faith mistakes so that's not the problem right now. The problem is that TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 is being advised by others that the files they are uploading have license issues and as a result many of these files have had to be deleted. TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 is also being advised about properly signing their posts. Instead of listening to this advise and trying to learn from it, TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 still does not sign their posts; instead, they call Jcb a "cyberbully" for pointing out these problems. At this point, it has become more of a "does not have the compentence to edit appropriately" issue than a "I don't know the rules because I'm a new editor issue", which means a block still may be needed regardless of intent to stop any further disruption. --Marchjuly (talk) 23:13, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly and Jeff G.: -- Sorry, I meant that I don't think the user changed their user name from TTTEFan2017 to TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 maliciously. Looking at everything else, I don't think this user understands/wants to understand/is capable of understanding the Commons' policies on free vs. non-free images. Given that, and the user's subsequent comments on this talk page since I last posted, I agree 100% a block is probably going to be necessary. Aoi (talk) 01:58, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me its because I don't know how the system works I am not a rocket scientist can you give me some links its like Copyright Strikes and Community Guideline Strikes on YouTube so send me a message back and forgive me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 (talk • contribs) 21:20, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear; Jcb you denied what I said. That is cyber bullying so now I will block you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TTTE&StarWarsFan2018 (talk • contribs) 21:50, 9 February 2018‎ (UTC)[reply]

  • Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 22:02, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TTTE&StarWarsFan2018: Please stop, you are just making things worse.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 22:02, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up -- despite my message telling the user how to change their user name legitimately, the user ignored my advice and made a new account, Special:Contributions/StarWars&TTTEFan2018. So far the user has only been active on enwiki, but just thought I'd give you a heads up in case the user decides to jump back to the Commons in the future. Aoi (talk) 07:21, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You have recommended that the Livin Lite logo be deleted. When I uploaded it I used as a guide other company logos. How do we tag this so it can be kept on wikimedia commons, as other logos are? --Utahredrock (talk) 15:50, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You did not specify a License. Jcb (talk) 15:54, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Utahredrock: At Commons, we only keep logos and other images if they are either not copyrighted at all, or if they have been released under a free licence. So your fair use rationale was not applicable. In this case, however, the logo is too simple to be copyrighted, so I have tagged it accordingly. De728631 (talk) 16:08, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About my unblock[edit]

Hi Jcb, thank you to unblock me, I have other files to upload, and if never it will not be OK, just delete theses files or send me messages but don't block me in the future, I really don't want to make vandalism or something else like that, don't be scared of me, I will do my best of possible.👍 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bill Wong (talk • contribs) 17:37, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. The reason I told you to not remove licenses, etc., is because that puts an unnecessary workload on the admins. These files are detected by the system and thrown into a problem category for manual review. Jcb (talk) 17:40, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Arnaud Courlet de Vregille's page[edit]

Hello Jcb. I saw you deleted this picture from the Arnaud Courlet de Vregille's page : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arnaud_Courlet_de_Vregille_Prix_Argenson.jpg. I don't understand because the problem was that it hadn't authorization from the artist. But now it is : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:137_Fa_Quand_le_Scarab%C3%A9e_d%27Or_1998_120_x_80_cm_Acrylique.jpg. So normally there is no problem. Please can you restore file ? Thank you very much. --Drapé (talk) 21:51, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The new file also lacks evidence of permission from the artist. I have nominated the file for deletion. Jcb (talk) 22:24, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok but can you tell me clearly what I have to do ? Because it's been a long time I try to settle this problem : the photograph gave his permission, artist gave his permission and licence file was accepted... Thank you. --Drapé (talk) 17:17, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The permission of both should be sent to OTRS. Jcb (talk) 17:19, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK thank you. How can I edit the file's licence ? I have the OTRS code but I can't change file to append the CC BY-SA 3.0 licence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drapé (talk • contribs) 22:29, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You have to wait until an OTRS agent approves the permission and undeletes the file. Jcb (talk) 22:31, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Error on Arnaud Courlet de Vregille's page[edit]

Hi Jcb,

The photo the yacht Sceptre has been deleted from the Robertson's Yard Wikipedia page. I have an email (dated 24/10/2008) from the owner of the yacht Sceptre which confirms I have permission from the photographer who took the photo (Mofoto) to specifically use the photo in the Robertson's Yard Wikipedia entry. i would be most grateful if you could reinstate the photograph or explain your justification for deletion.

File:Sceptre.JPG From Wikimedia Commons, the free media repository This page has been deleted. The deletion, protection, and move log for the page are provided below for reference.

Danke. Hystrix (talk) 15:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think this is a design flaw in the system. You cannot see in an empty categorie which files have been in that categorie shortly before nomination. Processing admin has no way to know whether the category has been emptied recently. Jcb (talk) 15:54, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please undelete[edit]

Category:Portuguese escudo (It worries me that an administrator cannot identify a category that’s empty only due to recent mass uncategorization by one misguided user. How’s that different than a bot? Can you please pay attention to what you are deleting and think “out of the box”? box(cat){ if(isEmpty(cat)) {delete cat; } }) -- Tuválkin 17:48, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done but to be honest, there's no way of telling whether a category *should* have content. No longer empty, so restored. Rodhullandemu (talk) 18:35, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Rodhullandemu, thanks! Tuválkin, I'm sorry, but there is no way to see this. There is nothing like a log of recently uncategorized files. Jcb (talk) 21:01, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Jcb and Rodhullandemu: Yes, there is a way. To me it is obvious that a category about something as topical as a currency unit in official use by an independent country for almost a century should not be empty: If it is empty there’s something fishy going on and that needs some research and admin work. That’s why deletion of empty cats needs to be vetted by a human editor, not just done by bot. Anyone with a sliver of trivia knowledge about “countries of the World” and a modicum of interest in mantaining a working category system would stop the boilerplate when something like Category:Portuguese escudo turns out empty. Sadly, it didn’t happen, and bot-like process went on unimpeded. -- Tuválkin 00:52, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New User Needing Help With Errant Deletion Request[edit]

Dear Johan,

I'm a new user, so I'm a bit overwhelmed since someone has tagged two of my images for deletion. Both pictures are photos I took and I own the copyright for, but this other individual says he thinks they look like screenshots. I have responded to his deletion requests on the deletion page, but he hasn't responded, and I'm not sure what to do now. Can you check out my responses and let me know what to do to make sure my pictures don't get deleted?

I have more pictures I want to share with the community (all taken by me), but I'm afraid if I upload them, the same thing will happen again. :(

Thank you!!! Jennychen888 (talk)

Can you please explain the deletion of File:Heiligste Dreifaltigkeit (Augsburg-Kriegshaber) Kreuzwegbilder.jpg? In Germany there is freedom of panorama, and this painting is permanently installed in a public church. --Neitram (talk) 00:26, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is hard to defend that 'in a public church' would qualify as a public place as meant by the Panoramafreiheit. Jcb (talk) 00:33, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see, yes. --Neitram (talk) 10:51, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, You reverted a correction to File:Lislegroundwatersitemap.jpg. This map was issued by a state government agency, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. State agencies are not part of the U.S. federal (national) government, and therefore the "PD-USGov-EPA" license tag cannot be used for this file. Another license tag is needed for this file. Thank you. Moreau1 (talk)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Harassment by Jcb. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.

Incnis Mrsi (talk) 10:48, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Filing a report against every admin who warns you to stop your disruptive behaviour does not make us (e.g. Taivo and myself) an involved party. Those reports will not somehow protect you from being blocked if you continue to keep us busy with you on purpose. Jcb (talk) 12:14, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Could you remove this block, Jcb. You know you're not permitted to block users who you are in a disagreement with, even if the block may ultimately be justified. Nick (talk) 10:54, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you dig a little deeper, you will see that they were not simply blocked after a 'disagreement' with me. Over the past week, they have litteraly wasted hours of admin capacity, e.g. from Taivo and myself, apparently on purposed. They have received multiple warnings. The INC DRs form only a small part of the story. At the moment they posted their final topic at AN/U, they were fully aware that their luck was about to expire. This comment, rather than the last edit war itself, clearly shows that they where disruptive on purpose, also see the sneaky way in which they removed the tag in the first place. I see no ground at all for lifting the block. The sole fact that after multiple warnings they start an AN/U topic, does not somehow protect them from being blocked and the supposed personal involvement is just made up by the user themself. Jcb (talk) 15:43, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Revision of User talk:Zhuyifei1999
Before the present report I issued two warnings about inappropriate vandalism accusations, for one of which you were a witness. Do not ascribe me motivation I do not have. You were told by several other members that “rv vandalism” was inappropriate. Moreover, your block of me was legitimized as a block for edit warring, not any “multiple disruption after…” manufactured stuff. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:15, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, you have been walking on the edge since 2 February and wasted a lot of valuable admin time, apparently on purpose. You knew very well that our patience with you was about to expire, before you posted that last report. Now stop wasting my time. Jcb (talk) 21:28, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The originals are no longer there. Was shot 4-5 years ago. God with you. 84 (talk) 09:32, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nakhl Gardani Taft town, Iran.jpg[edit]

Hey! Long ago I had sent the OTRS for the file you already deleted and it was being reviewed, AFAIK. --Mhhossein talk 18:55, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If there is an ongoing ticket, the involved file will be undeleted if the ticket is approved by the OTRS agent. Jcb (talk) 21:30, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --Mhhossein talk 21:06, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

logo removed[edit]

I translated a wiki page from English to French. When I wanted to upload the logo it got removed. I wanted to use the one used in the English version but it wasn't displayed. If I'm not the creator of the logo, how can I upload it to the wiki page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aphrodite déesse (talk • contribs) 23:52, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You cannot upload non-free logo's at Wikimedia Commons. Unlike English Wikipedia, we do not accept Fair Use. Jcb (talk) 23:59, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Crapper.jpg[edit]

You nominated an image for deletion because: No authorship information, unknown copyright situation. No indication that the author would have died before 1948. Well Crapper "died in 1910". Aged 73. Is this the photo https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/three-true-things-about-sanitary-engineer-thomas-crapper-180965008/ I'm guessing it dates aro. the 1890's. Does this not mean then that it is a valid item for commons? --BeckenhamBear (talk) 12:24, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Around 1890s not good enough to assume copyright to be expired. In the UK, copyright lasts 70 years after the death of the author. Last year, we had a discussion on where to draw the line and the community decided that if we know for sure that the work is over 120 years old but we don't know when the author died, then we assume a work to be PD. But 'around 1890s' is not necessarily before 1898, could e.g. be 1903 as well. Jcb (talk) 14:18, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. Given copyright is 70 years, deciding on a 120 year ruling is madness. According to Getty the photo was in a brochure from 1902. Oh, and the photographer is not the Rev. James Granger as claimed by one website.--BeckenhamBear (talk) 20:41, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright is 70 years after the death of the author, not after creation. Jcb (talk) 23:01, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

suppression image file:claude de romefort jpg 16 février 2018[edit]

Why did you cancell this picture ? Children of painter send authorisations just like the second other picture "le jugement dernier" but never wikipedia commons changed what was writing as indication of the autorisation , only an indication was changed from red to blue . Ask to administrators of wikipedia commons, they received the autorisations first by me, then directly by descedants of painters as was asked to theme please remove the picture thanck--Tpgrieg (talk) 16:39, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The ticket is still open. If an OTRS agent verifies the permission, this agent will take care of undeletion. Jcb (talk) 16:42, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

Dear Jcb, With this edit you removed my posting on your talk page in which I gave my arguments against your deletion request of the Thomas Craper file (c.1902). In the Edit summary you told me: go somewhere else if you want to call people a dog. I won't complain about the first part of that sentence (I am not a drama queen). I do however would like to go into the second part of your comment. I have never, and will never, call someone a dog. I used a common English expression (incl. the words "wrong tree") because I wanted to point out that the publication date was in this case more important than the death date of an unknown photographer. As I state on my user page: I have only "intermediate knowledge of English", while yours is "advanced". So apologies for my use of that expression: it was not meant in the way you suppose. Vysotsky (talk) 18:56, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, no problem then. Jcb (talk) 21:17, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

Hi JCB, Hope all is well, Could you possibly undelete File:Gartree Logo - Grey.jpg so that I can save the file and uploader info please?, I originally asked the deleting admin but they'd refused for some bs reason, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:40, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I undeleted the file and tagged it for deletion next Monday. Jcb (talk) 21:22, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant thanks so much!, I've speedied the file again incase you're away, Thanks again, –Davey2010Talk 04:10, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We are in one boat[edit]

The Copyright inspector Barnstar
In appreciation of the tireless work on keeping Commons images in good standing. Taterian (talk) 23:19, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Johan, perhaps not everyone realizes that you are acting rather like a gadfly to raise awareness about the importance of accuracy, verification, and attribution with images. Particularly, this concerns the images that had been transferred from the en:wp to Commons without proper identification of sources and sometimes even lacking descriptions. The problem is that many of them are heavily used, which may cause a boomerang effect if they are deleted. To prevent that, it might be beneficial to the Commons community to first help locate the missing information such as authorship, description, and date before the images are suggested for deletion. Next, such images could be set aside and marked as needing fair use rationale to prepare them for transfer back to their places of origin in various language specific wp's. I might be missing something regarding the mechanics of the process, but sincerely wish that we all work as a team. --Taterian (talk) 23:19, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think a better approach is not to transfer files from en:wp in the first place if the information is not complete. We have a huge backlog in files with inadequat information. Jcb (talk) 21:20, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think that’s not an answer to Taterian’s question. He praises you, but he is also asking you very politely to be more diligent with deletion requests. It would really help if you would follow his advice and look into matters more thoughtfully and change your approach slightly. Your time (and the time of other Wikipedians) could be spent much more efficiently. Also don't underestimate the boomerang effect that Turelio mentions, and the discouraging effect that some of these deletion request have on trustworthy editors and major GLAM partners. file: claude de romefort autoportrait 1942[edit]

No, I am not passing the queue for you. Just wait for your turn like anybody else. Jcb (talk) 12:47, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Captive elephants taken by N. A. Naseer[edit]

Hi Johan, one of my friend in Malayalam Wikipedia informed me that three photos of captive elephants taken by N. A. Naseer were deleted from the Malayalam Wikipedia page. Upon inspecting that page i found the files were deleted by you. They are File:Elephants of Kerala L12 (2).jpg, File:Elephants of Kerala L13 (2).jpg and File:Elephants of Kerala L14 (2).jpg. They are from the category, Category:Photographs of captive elephants taken by N. A. Naseer and I can see a similarly named one still existing with a OTRS ticket #2017030110015374. Could you check and let me know what the missing information is? Pinging the uploader, the ML Wiki editor and the only admin from Malayalam Wikipedia too for any further inputs. Jee 11:27, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

One more issue I came to notice is that OTRS ticket# in both Category:Photographs by Joseph Lazer and Category:Photographs by N. A. Naseer are same in most files (#2013082110009341). So my assumption is that 1. either, there is a mistake in ticket# entered, 2. or, mails from both parties got merged. Naseer's mail ID is very well known that you can see in the license tag. Jee 12:19, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These files had no ticket at the time. If you think they may be covered by a certain ticket, please take it to the OTRS noticeboard. I am hardly online this week, I am not digging into this. Jcb (talk) 12:51, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Moved. Thanks. Jee 13:03, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion request[edit]

Hi, you said that there is no valid reason to delete all my contributions, but they are not being used for any page today. So, why keep them? I do not want these images here. Please reconsider again, this is my only final request to never use Wikipedia again. Thanks.

Bob Jackson~commonswiki (talk) 20:29, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Most of them are in use in Wikipedia articles. They also may be in use outside Wikipedia/Wikimedia. Jcb (talk) 20:35, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for deletion[edit]

Hi Jcb,

I would request a deletion for all the files in

I uploaded them all. The person had uploaded them onto Flickr as public domain. Looking back, I realize the ads are ambiguous for copyright as nothing stated they are public domain and nothing said the copyright was renewed. The doubt in my mind is too high for me to want to keep them. If you can, can you mass delete them? Thanks. Artix Kreiger (talk) 21:02, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They are now in a regular DR. If I speedy them now, this will probably lead to time consuming discussions. Jcb (talk) 21:31, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can I have some background on this? There are a handful of images on rowiki marked as transferrable to commons with the same OTRS. Gikü (talk) 12:55, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They can only be transfered if proper source and authorship is provided. The OTRS-permission tag can only be added by an OTRS agent. Also it's mandatory to do proper aftercare when transfering files to Commons, uploader was filling various problem categories. Jcb (talk) 20:25, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jcb, how does the file look now? Gikü (talk) 13:31, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. The only thing that should be done now is asking a Romanian OTRS agent to check and paste ticket 2011030410006577. Probably the best thing to do is to leave a message at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. Jcb (talk) 15:37, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1857[edit]

Would you please undelete 1857? Thanks! Evrik (talk) 16:12, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It used to be a redirect to Category:1857. If you want to create a gallery page with this name, you can just create it. There is no need to undelete the redirect first. Jcb (talk) 20:26, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you,

for the deletion of the files, after the search on the Internet, I agree with you that this right is not right, but at most a request to do so. Thanks, therefore.

greetings Jürgen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jürgen Funke (talk • contribs) 23:02, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This image was associated with Ticket#2018020710001298, but no follow-up happened by OTRS agents. -- Nick Moreau (talk) 21:50, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As soon as an OTRS agent concludes that the permission is valid, the file will be restored. Jcb (talk) 22:13, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
