If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Your FPC nomination[edit]

Is it possible to get a better quality version of that shot? The version you uploaded has some second or third generation jpeg artifacting. Please leave a note at my user talk if you upload a better replacement or find another image of comparable historic importance. I like to restore photographs of this type. Best regards, Durova 01:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please ping me when the new upload is ready. When I looked at this in Photoshop I saw definite JPEG artifacting, particularly on the horses' flanks and by the telephone poles. Durova 20:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is this going in the right direction?

Midway through restoration right now: would you object to this crop of your shot? I've taken care of the damaged area at far left and a lot of the major problems. Getting down to the pixel level now. Looks to my eye like most of the information is along the center part of the frame. Some people aren't keen on radical crops, though, so if you give your opinion I'll know how much more work remains. Cheers, Durova 03:07, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I hope you like it. Durova 06:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking of putting this up for picture peer review on en:Wikipedia. That's sort of pre-FPC. Would you object to that? And if you have an account there, would you like to conominate for FPC? Encyclopedic value weighs in that project's voting standards, so outcomes are sometimes different between the there and here. Durova 02:27, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting suggestion.[1] How would you go about this? Durova 08:23, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Elefant"[edit]

  • Sorry, I have to correct legend of picture. I am totaly sure: on picture is no elefant.
  • ?? I know only Sturmgeschütz III, Sturmgeschütz IV or Sturmgeschütz 42 (42 is not on picture, it is sure). Right name from type, that you have in mind probably, is Sturmgeschütz III Ausf G, (40) is probably only year of production. --Ignác Pospíšil 05:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Opisy zdjęć[edit]

Hej Jarekt!

Sprawdź proszę i daj znać. PS. piękne zdjęcia robisz. Pozdrawiam :) Łeba 10:55, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Odpowiedź[edit]

Witam. Ona przysłała mi zdjęcia do umieszczenia w Wikipedii. Pozdrawiam. Piotr Kononowicz 23:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of Valued image project launch announcement to Polish for Polish Wikiepdia[edit]

Dear Jarekt, I have noticed you on the image forums, and I have respect for your work here, which is why I contact you. I do not know if you are familiar with the COM:VI project, which we have been tinkering on since the beginning of the year? We are now doing the final preparations for the official launch on June 1, 2008 at 0:00 UTC. You can see the preparations being done at Commons talk:Valued images candidates. One of our tasks is to make announcement on our most important sister projects such as the Polish Wikipedia. However we need a Polish-English speaking user to do the translation of the announcement from English to Polish. Is that something you would be willing to do? And if not, do you know another user who would? Thanks in advance, -- Slaunger 21:23, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slaunger, I was following the creation of COM:VI project, and I will try to help with it. With technical subject I feel much more comfortable translating from Polish to English, than other way around. But if I run into trouble I will try to find someone to help. --Jarekt 01:32, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jarekt, I am glad you will try to help. Cheers, -- Slaunger 04:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Jarekt, uhmmm... it is not to stress you but Polish is the only major language we still needs to get translated. We would like to be able to make a coordinated announcement on the language specific Wikipedias one or two days before June 1, 2008 at 0:00 (UTC). It is perfectly OK, if you do not have the time for it. If that is so have you got any good ideas for another Polish-English speaking user, who could be of assistance? Cheers, -- Slaunger 20:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I finally had time to finish it, and I asked another user to verify it. Greetings. --Jarekt 03:26, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Jarekt. The time is right now to announce it on the village pump (and possibly other pages like the polish FPC and/or Graphics lab talkpages) of pl.wikipedia. Could you do that please? If you do not feel like it or do not have the time could you delegate it to another native Polish user?
Please, report back here. -- Slaunger 23:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Happy editing,

Pink_CC[edit]

Hi, what do you think about a Polish translation of Template:Pink_CC? I suppose it would cost you little effort and might attract "donators" of pictures which otherwise would be reluctant to contribute any of their work. On development, please seeUser_talk:WeHaWoe/TestSite (&never mind on my recent COM:VP request, that was just to check "general user's / wikipedian's opinion") TX, --WeHaWoe (talk)

Of course, if any of other "native Polish" active WP comrades would do such translation, that would be welcome just as well. Besides, I'm looking for Russian translation, too [just in case someone could help out] --WeHaWoe (talk) 13:21, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Warsaw Uprising poster - Warszawskie Dzieci Pójdziemy w Bój.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Watermark[edit]

Why do you remove watermarks from images that don't have them (Image:Fiona-Portugal Fashion 3.jpg and Image:Fiona-Portugal Fashion 4.jpg) ? - Erik Baas (talk) 06:05, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. In order to tackle the backlog of images with watermarks I downloaded a thousand, fixed several hundred, and mass upload them. However this process takes several days and if anybody like you fixes some images in the meantime, I unfortunately overwrite an already fixed image. I am sorry about it and please feel free to revert my changes.--Jarekt (talk) 14:42, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see, okay, no problem. - Erik Baas (talk) 16:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images with watermarks[edit]

Hello,

I see you make a great work in Category:Images with watermarks. But, before uploading new versions of images, can you verify if these images have not already been handled (e.g. [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]). It would be more efficient if two persons don't make the same work.

Regards, CHristoPHE 07:47, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I was saying with exchange with Erik Baas above, the problem with overwriting already fixed images arises because I would download a thousand images, fix some of them, mass upload them, and than use AutoWikiBrowser to remove {{Watermark}}, and unfortunately this process takes a few days, and I sometimes overwrite already fixed images. I will add an extra step before any future upload of removing from the upload list any images which no longer have {{Watermark}}. I am sorry about the overwrites. --Jarekt (talk) 13:38, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok --CHristoPHE 07:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Street sign watermarks[edit]

Hi Jarekt, I'm glad to see you're doing watermark removal, it's an important and taxing task that I've done a lot of myself. I wanted to remark though that you appear to have removed {{Watermark}} tags from some street signs by José Reynaldo da Fonseca; Fonseca includes a drop shadow and a small watermark at the bottom-left corner of most of his images, including these. An example is Image:Placa da SP EM BRANCO REFON .jpg. Please keep an eye out for these in the future, they're a bit subtle. :-) Dcoetzee (talk) 17:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I missed those. --Jarekt (talk) 18:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jarekt. When removing watermarks, please do not simply crop the image. Instead, you should use the GIMP or Photoshop to remove the watermark by cloning. Regards, --Kjetil_r 14:30, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I often use cloning (for example see 200 images in Category:SPOT satellite images). But, I feel that, in many cases cropping is a suitable approach as well, and it is much faster. I will try to be more conservative on when I use it. Regards --Jarekt (talk) 16:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pozdrowienia --Jarekt (talk) 14:31, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Odruchowo dodaję je do swych obserwowanych. Czemu tak jest? Pozdr. --Starscream (talk) 21:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tez mi to trochę czasu zabrało by się przyzwyczaic. Często na samej górze strony dyskusyjnej znajdziesz informacje do którego obozu dany uczestnik należy. --Jarekt (talk) 03:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing watermarks[edit]

Hi Jarekt , you removed a bit too much at Image:NederlandProvincie.jpg (the scale is gone), but missed the 3 logo's (damn watermarks are in the top/bottom left and right in the middle). Multichill (talk) 07:46, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done I put back the scale and removed 3 watermarks. --Jarekt (talk) 13:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for improving images. Image:Brody.jpg still has the watermark across the dog - the earlier version also had more complete cropping of the border. I notice that you have not yet removed {{Watermark}} from your uploads and hope you will do this soon. Finavon (talk) 08:35, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done removed the watermark from the center of the image. I will start removing {{Watermark}} tags from my latest batch of fixed images within a day or two. --Jarekt (talk) 13:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Watermark removal on Image:Area code map WI .png[edit]

Hi. You uploaded a new version of Image:Area code map WI .png, with the comment that you removed the watermark, but that doesn't quite seem to be what happened. I uploaded a watermark-free version of that a couple of weeks ago, and your version just seems to have made the lines a little thinner and doubled the filesize. Next time, could you try to use a summary that describes your changes a little better? Thanks. --Sopoforic (talk) 16:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I think we used to know each other, years ago when I lived with my family in Fairfax. I randomly stumbled upon a photo of yours as I was myself adding pictures to the indoor climbing category. Commons Scope - Pdf and Djvu files[edit]

I have added some text dealing with these based on the discussion on the talk page. Users are by no means unanimous about which files should be allowed, and I have tried to follow the majority opinion. Thus, the suggestion is that if a Pdf or Djvu file is educationally useful even to a single other Wiki it should be kept. Would you like to comment before this page goes live? Please do so at the bottom of the talk page. Regards, --MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Usuwanie znaków wodnych[edit]

Ważna uwaga: jeśli w znaku wodnym występował jakiś tekst, podpis, adres internetowy itp., należy koniecznie przenieść go do opisu zdjęcia, niezależnie od licencji. Prawo autora do oznaczania dzieła swoim imieniem lub pseudonimem należy to osobistych praw autorskich, które według polskiego prawa autorskiego (a innych zapewne też) są niezbywalne, niezależnie od udzielonej przez autora licencji (nawet typu public domain).

Pozdrawiam! A.J. (talk) 09:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pozdrowienia --Jarekt (talk) 12:14, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was too busy adding templates to tons of images that the original information got lost, sorry about that. I removed however the category "Art lost in Poland during World War II". The piece is hanging in the museum, the category refers to art pieces that have not been recovered due to the War. Gryffindor (talk) 09:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be a good idea to re-check that category, maybe other paintings did not get lost or have been found again. Either way it's a very sad story... Gryffindor (talk) 12:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trusted user[edit]

You are a trusted user for renaming mow.--Ahonc (talk) 20:51, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks--Jarekt (talk) 20:54, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please undo all movents to this category and tag it for speedy deletion. Reason: 1) aircrafts is not an english word, both singular and plural is aircraft. 2) All subcats of Category:World_War_II_aircraft use a specific naming convention and yours is different. So please either undo your edits or change all other cats to the naming convention you used. --Denniss (talk)

Denniss you are right about the aircrafts vs. aircraft. I guess I learn something every day and apparently most of my life I was using it incorrectly. I will change the category to Category:World War II aircraft of Poland which is preferred version to Category:World_War_II_Polish_aircraft (see guidelines at Commons:By location category scheme). --Jarekt (talk) 17:36, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pink_CC/pl[edit]

Hi,

I sadly have to admit that there obviously occurred a bug when creating Template:Pink_CC (you recently did the pl-translation of it). In case you'd like to comment on its talk page Template_talk:Pink_CC, I'd be pleased [being, to some extent, its "inventor" ;]. Thanks, Wolfgang (talk) 19:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I meanwhile did my best to repair; please be as kind as to check whether there are major shortcomings (the pl-version of the template is not yet used at all, therefore, no REAL problem can have occurred. It would however be "VERY NICE" if the "How-To" could be translated => pl as well. As a workaround I've put there the English version.)
Thanks, --Wolfgang (talk) 14:32, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--Jarekt (talk) 03:54, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jarekt, Category:Images from the German Federal Archive is a temporary category structure and is created to help finding topic categories for all these image. You shouldn't remove topic categories from these images. Thank you! Multichill (talk) 16:57, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I did not realized those were temporary. Thanks for letting me know. --Jarekt (talk) 17:26, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's still very much work in progress. Input on how to categorize 100.000 images is welcome. My ideas are at Commons_talk:Bundesarchiv#Categorization. Multichill (talk) 19:57, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Bridge over the San River, Poland. A wagon train of presumably Volksdeutsche is crossing over the bridge from Russian to German occupied territory
Himmler "greeting" a driver of a wagon, apparently on the same bridge, who according to the apparently Nazi-era caption, was part of the last wagon train across the bridge

Sorry, I didn't think I was removing useful categories, but rather improving the categorization that I had attempted to put in place.

Perhaps I should explain. I was categorizing these images as Nazi-Soviet Pact and Nazi propaganda when I realized that the better approach would be to classify them as Resettlement of Volksdeutsche, then make that a subcategory of Nazi-Soviet Pact and Nazi propaganda. What was happening was that both Nazi-Soviet pact and Nazi propaganda were filling up with a lot of these images, and without proper categorization, someone viewing them might not understand what was being depicted. For example, the simple photo of the wagons on the bridge seems to be unimportant until it is viewed in the context of the whole sequence of images.

Specifically, what these images show the kicking out of Poles (Jewish and non-Jewish) from their lands in the Warthegau and other places (there appear to be some related images showing the deportation of the Jews from Lodz, it may be this was intended to run with this set), the flight of the ethnic Germans from places recently taken over by the Russians, such as eastern Galicia, and the resettlement of these ethnic Germans on lands recently confiscated by the Reich invaders of Poland. This is important both in itself and in the fact that it was used, or at least intended for use as Nazi propaganda.

Note especially the photo of Himmler with the fellow driving the wagon. The bridge shown is across the San river which as I sure you will know was the dividing line between the German and Russian occupied zones of Poland. The propaganda objective of the photograph is to show Himmler as a protector of the Volkdeutsche. So for about 22 pictures, I put them in the more specific Resettlement of Volksdeutsche and stripped out the more general Nazi Propaganda and Nazi-Soviet pact. Since it was I who originally put the categories on, I didn't see how it would trouble anyone to make them more specific, especially since the main topics start to get so large.

My German is faulty, and it may be that I have misinterpreted the captions, but think this is the correct interpretation of these images.Mtsmallwood (talk) 05:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the category names do need to be more specific, please change if you wish.Mtsmallwood (talk) 15:55, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

kategorie[edit]

Ja spędzam dużo czasu czyszcząc generalne kategorie, tworząc szczególowe kategorie i przeżucajac grafiki z generalnych kategorii do szczegółowych. --Jarekt (talk) 14:30, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Flora of" categories when they are subdivisions of larger political divisions[edit]

This long entry onto your talk page is a reaction to http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Flora_of_Northwestern_United_States&curid=3929873&diff=17117669&oldid=17117596

I have had some problems with those who have contributed to the plants of categories. Starting with a ToL which deletes species categories and in the middle with an anonymous merge of "plants of" categories into the "flora of" categories. There does not seem to be any experience among the people who make decisions for these subjects and interestingly enough, some mis-information from some who had the access to add documents to the write protected taxonomy template which is not the problem here but in the list of problems with the people who "rule" or "dictate" (not actually wiki-like terms to me) those subject matters here.

This is probably a too long explanation from a person who started to re-categorize the plant information to answer a few concerns I had: the commons image pages looked like a long neglected waste land when entered from a wikipedia article (lack of information template, and problems from the category vs gallery warlike time that seemed to last for years ending in Feb. 2007 and range maps which were difficult to make for species I was making articles for).

I started with Category:Ecozones and using http://www.tdwg.org/TDWG_geo2.pdf subdivided the globe into eight somewhat equal areas and then subdivided those into smaller yet equal pieces. I created the original "Flora of" categories based on those subdivisions and in an attempt to not interrupt whatever people were so energetically doing in the "Plants of" categories. While I did this, several political divisions (countries) needed the "Nature of" categories -- not yet created and often needed and tried to tidy those up. Software which puts existing categories onto uploads was helpful for making a lot of work. Administrators who delete categories which as yet do not have images for maintained the problem. Soon there will be more than 4 million images and it seems to me that the categories should exist if software is used to upload to existing categories. That is a different problem though.

The loneliness I have experienced in trying to make some sensible changes here has been 1)excruciating and 2)not the way I became involved with GNU things and 3)a mystery to me as the changes seem extremely sensible for effort to be spent with. Anonymous catastrophic changes are less a mystery to me as it seems to be another example of the privileged abusing trust which in my opinion more examples are not needed. Effort not be spent to make the commons into the great image server it could be is another mystery to me. Effort spent keeping it looking like a non-intelligent soup managed by a group of people whose votes always make the members have the appearance of a single person whose intelligence as a member of the human species was unnaturally limited by some accident -- I am surprised at how difficult it is to prevent this.

On a personal note, I remember not wanting to restore your photographs from WWII. That has not changed in the more than a year now since I expressed this. This was not the kind of opinion that also made me want to remove the images from here. I would rather work on things from the natural world and the divisions of this globe based on area, climate and geological conditions are an expression of that. They change more slowly and are more of a real fact than the political divisions which had been used to define where the natural things get categorized here. Many of the "unnatural structures" which caused the subject matter of those photographs are gone and somewhat prove what I have been working on.

Politics come and go. The areas of this planet which they make their impact on get changed by them but the areas remain.

The saddness within me increases so much everytime that the anonymous merge is fortified. I can only ask one person at a time to reconsider their changes and to work with me to make the categories which are about the natural world to be placed into more natural divisions. I become more sad when one person at a time refuses to revert their own changes and I remain alone with this great and good task that I saw that should be done here.

I am asking you to revert your changes and to forgive me (if you investigate further into what I have been doing here) for trying to work with the "privileged" in these category areas. I am not sorry that working with people successfully is what got me involved with these GNU things -- I am sorry and deeply confused at the huge amount that it is not possible for others to work together with me since then.

Thanks for your time and consideration while reading this. -- carol (talk) 00:59, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply on my talk page. I also thank you for the time you took to provide the original category scheme which while writing articles for plant species I found to be almost comical with the proportion differences in the areas that the human species have defined politically. Where is Category:Ecozones in this scheme? Also, any online references to botany sites which adhere to first level political divisions would help me to feel better about the tradition which is adhered to here. -- carol (talk) 23:54, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My frustration with this is not improving my ability to communicate about the problems I have had since the end of September 2007 with these topics. Thank you for 1)knowing more than one language and 2)the patience you have given and might need to continue with my frustration about all of this. -- carol (talk) 01:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
