Hello,

You have added the category Category:Khafre's Pyramid to this image file, though there are no obvious features to do so.

If you have some knowledge about this pyramid, please complete the description and point out which side of the pyramid is showed in this picture. Otherwise, I'll revert your edit. --Juiced lemon 15:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amenirdis, Shepenupet etc.[edit]

Hello JMCC1

You have added category 25th dynasty to the images of Amenirdis, Shepenupet... I think it's not necessary because those divine adoratrice are already included in Category:25th dynasty of Egypt.

See : Category:Shepenupet II or Category:Amenirdis I. What do you think about this subject? Do you think we have to duplicate these images in two categories? In this case what is your reasons?

Thanks for your answer. Neithsabes 12:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove categories...[edit]

[1] Please do not remove categories when they correctly describe the subject of a picture, apart if you want to replace it with a more specific category (sub-category). Thanks for your comprehension. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 20:01, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ramose theban Tomb 55[edit]

Hi JMCC1

I see you remove my change about this image : ... But it's a mistake because this relief is not at Tel el-Amarna but at Luxor.

Indeed it's an amarna style relief, but not from the Amarna tomb 11 as you correct it. Merely it's come from the Ramose Theban Tomb 55 where you can find two style of reliefs in it. One part of the tomb was done under Amenhotep III reign, then the relief appears in a classical form. The other part of the tomb was finished under the reign of Akhenaten and in the new amarna style. Both reliefs are on the same wall of the tomb of Ramose at Luxor. I visited this tomb the first time when I went to Egypt, it has several years now. I was so very surprised.

If you want further information about please consult this site : Ramose Theban Tomb. You will see what i am talking about.

Best regards. Neithsabes 14:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Egyptian hieroglyphs[edit]

Hello. I know you (and I) are in that club of people trying to get a handle on E. hieroglyphs. I also worked on cuneiform; and there was.... a partial list of some cuneiform characters. There is so much more to do in all fields, from the various languages with glyphs.

I am just saying hello. I see you made a category for the steles of various dynasties. I applaud you're diligence. We (All) in wikipedia have goals. I know there are wonderful unused Photos in WikiCommons... so there is so much more truth about things to UNCOVER. I have been going through E.A.Wallis Budges two part 2inches of dictionary... And now reading into the w:Coptic language list (in it) as well (while studying the origins, or relations to other Hieroglyph spellings).

21st century BC, Chinese. (lid of pottery mug/jar LOST)

How many of 'Us' actually have a clue about hieroglyphs? 20 to 50? I have started a list for a page for "Amulets of Ancient Egypt"; I am going thru "Carol Andrews" amulet hardcopy book. And ... therefore picking up some clues to hieroglyphs I don't fully understand, compared to how they are used in the 2inches of the Budge dictionary. Just saying hello.. my latest two articles are: en:Mudbrick stamp-(today)-(and its new category)...and the en:List of Egyptian hieroglyphs by alphabetization, where I am trying to clean-up the A-L, and M-Z lists. Cheers, Enjoy. (when I did the big hieroglyph cat in WikiCommons, (I went over to also do cuneiform, eventually), but also worked on the Timeline by centuries (using the wonderful Pottery (including especially the Chinese)(photo above)... -cheers/enjoy (from theSonoran Desert/Arizona USA)--(I worked on the steles, too, that is why I thought I would finally say hello.)-- Mmcannis (talk) 02:20, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

8500 BC, and other century categories[edit]

What you decide about the categories is "fine by me." Let me explain: when I was making all the hieroglyph categories, Category:Hieroglyphs of Egypt, i branched into: Category:Hieroglyphs on media, (and even more, of Egypt-related), then also Category:Cuneiform on media. Somebody just made the en:Gudea cylinders article (cat: Cuneiform on cylinders)... so eventually the cats find a purpose.

I also found that the Century cats:.. Category:11th century BC and all going back to 29th century BC, were UNMADE, or undeveloped. I used Ancient Egypt, and Mesopotamia, (starting with Pottery) to start the cats with the Photos.

Only one confirmed date of 2627 BC came up for en:Peru, S. America where the mud pyramids were dated by the cloth used to carry mud. Another century was confirmed in 5500BC by the explosion of en:Mount Mazama, (Crater Lake, Oregon, USA). many items can only be identified to millenniums, or a couple of centuries. You know the problems. (en:Dendrochronology is wonderful!)..The old pottery-(I used) for the (centuries mentioned), are change-able guesses, (I think). Cheers, enjoy OUR human discoveries. Hello, JMCC1!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

BM category move[edit]

Hi,

I notice you've moved the images relating to the British Museum mummy once known as "Ginger". In all sources relating to the mummy, the reference used is "EA 32751" rather than "BM 32751". How the "Big Number" is used has changed over time for the BM, however I believe we should go by the sources that people would find when they verify material. For the most part, it is less ambiguous to use the Registration number 1900,1018.1 though good practice would be to quote both references in any publication. As the new category Category:Human mummy BM 32751 does not reflect the most meaningful reference, I suggest Category:Predynastic human mummy, EA 32751. -- (talk) 08:46, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not. It is an error of Cat-a-lot [6] --JMCC1 (talk) 14:04, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
if you can find a recipe for invoking the cat-a-lot bug, i will be grateful if you can share it. we can create for this purpose a "junk" category or categories, and add them and remove them from a list of files. once i'll see a reproducible recipe that invokes the problem (ideally, there should also be some browser information, preferably with as complete version information as practical, e.g. "Google chrome 19.0.1084.15 beta-m" or such), i will do my best to get to the bottom of it and fix cat-a-lot. your help is greatly appreciated, peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 02:31, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

failed to replicate problem[edit]

so i created a new category: Category:CAL2012 2, and did mass movement of these files to and from the other category, using both "Move" and "Copy". then i did another mass "Copy" to the new cat, and finally "Remove"d from it all the files. I used both chrome (19) and ff (12 - did not want to reinstall 11). in all those exercises i did not get a single case of truncation.

i did stumble on a bug/problem: when using chrome, even though cat-a-lot reports it moved (or copied) all the files, it actually only moved *most* of them (e.g., i selected 200 files, executed "move", cat-a-lot told me they were all moved, but only 191 files actually moved).

this problem did not occur in firefox. however, in all this activity (you can peek in my "user contribs", some 600-700 junk edits, just doing those tests. i hope the people patrolling commons won't get *too* pissed at me...) not a single file got corrupted: i can tell, thanks to a new 1.19 feature which shows the pagesize change (in bytes) on "contribs". in each phase of the test, all the files show exactly the same size change. in the case of truncation such as you experienced, one sees much larger reduction in page size (typically several K, depending on the exact truncation point), with the actual weight loss being unique to each file.

so, i actually do not have a recipe to reproduce the errors. i guess i could go back to firefox 11 and give it one more try - maybe i will, but this is really very thin chance. without replication, i am actually quite helpless diving any deeper into the issue.

I do not understand. See [7] --JMCC1 (talk) 05:14, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
good news/bad news: so we really do not need to move hundreds of files - that the good news. i will be able to kick this one file back and forth (apparently, the problem occured both when executing "move" and "copy", so i can just as well use "move"). however (that's the bad news), it did not happen for me on chrome 19 and ff 12. the last resort is for me to downgrade to ff 11 - maybe it's something particular to this browser at this version. btw - i am using the windows 64-bit version of the browser. i can also test on linux-64 bit, and maybe also on windows-32 bit. may i ask, which OS did you use when the issue happened? peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 17:47, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fails on both PCs. --JMCC1 (talk) 14:24, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, still failed to reproduce. let's do one more try: this time, let's see if it may be a result of gadget/preference interoperability.
could you please list all the gadgets that are activated in your preferences? also, which skin do you use, and what options are enabled under "Advanced options" in the "Appearance" tab in your preferences? i know this is a long shot, but i tried quite a few times, including with FF 11. since it happens for you on more than one PC, i doubt it's a problem with your browser (unless you have some unusual extension(s) installed on both pc? do you?). i want to configure my user to behavfe as similarly as i can to yours - maybe this will allow me to reproduce.

this can't be entirely true - after all, cat-a-lot itself is not "on" in the default config, and obviously it's "on" in your setup...
my last strand of hope is that the problem stems from gadgets-collision, so it would really help to know which gadgets are "on" in your preferences. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 23:23, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for documenting this. this is very good - it will allow me (not today, unfortunately) to replicate your setup exactly. if i will still fail to replicate, then i just don't know what to do next. if replication will succeed, good chances we'll eventually nail this bastard. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 23:26, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it has anything to do with the browser. Cat-a-lot functions through API calls and the API calls are the same regardless of browser. The only explanations I could imagine are:
  1. An unreliable internet connection is causing the API messages to get truncated, but somehow they are still being accepted by the server.
  2. There is an error on the server/MediaWiki side, possibly caused by the heavy concurrent processing required by Cat-a-lot
  3. The API messages are not being escaped properly by Cat-a-lot. In this case you would see the content truncated at the spot where a quote or double-quote character was supposed to appear and it would be reproducible.

Hello JMCC1 ,

I've noticed that you tag some files with this category. What is it ? It seems to be files with errors, but what errors ?

this category (and also Category:CAL2012 2) are temporary hidden categories we use to try and get to the bottom of a bug in gadget cat-a-lot (see previous section in this discussion page). once we nail it down (or once we give up on nailing it...), we should ask these cats to be removed. in the meantime, please bear with us. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 17:41, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cameos/intaglios[edit]

Hi! I'm a bit confused by some of your recent categorisations. You removed Category:Intaglios from File:Geta Caracalla CdM Chabouillet1200.jpg and File:Jasper intaglio Massimo 108684.jpg and added Category:Cameos, but these are intaglios, not cameos. Intaglios feature an incised image; cameos feature a raised relief image. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 07:08, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jastrow (Λέγετε) 11:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hathor Kiosk in Dendera[edit]

I reestablished the category Hathor Kiosk in Dendera because its name is really Hathor Kiosk. It was a temple of a goddess which could be learned from the Hathoric columns. The chapel was dedicated to Hathor. In Porter Moss, vol. VI, p. 100, it is named as Hathor Kiosk, too. The chapel did not had a roof at all the times, also no roof for the zodiac or disk. This chapel was often confused with the Chapel of the Zodiac, Chapel of the Disk or Western Osiris Chapel at the opposite side. --RolandUnger (talk) 06:52, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please give better cats for these 2 images if you can. Maybe 'Category:Treasure of Tutankhamun' applies to Tutankhamun's canopic lid?

I also uploaded this other image below:

From this short News story by the Pacific Science Centre, it is clear that all the objects on display at the king tut exhibit came from the Cairo Museum.

Wrong category Kalabsha/Uronarti[edit]

The category Temple of Thutmosis III in Uronarti is wrongly named. The hemi speos shown at the photographs stood at Kalabsha outside the main temple in the south-west corner (see Gauthier, Temple de Kalabchah, vol. ii, p. 331-7, pl. cxv, cxvi) sometimes named rock chapel of Dedwen. Maspero named it in his Rapports a mammisi but maybe this is not correct.

Of course there was a temple of Thutmosis III at Uronarti but this was a mud-brick temple which was not transferred to another place (see Dunham, Uronarti; Shalfak; Mirgissa. Second Cataract Forts; 2. 1967).

I propose to rename the category to "Hemi-speos of Dedwen at Kalabsha". --RolandUnger (talk) 08:47, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Acuarela[edit]

Hola, JMCC1.

File:Vulva symbols.svg[edit]

Just caught your upload on that file, which was unfortunate and also kind of annoying, since you don't even seem to have read the description -- it's supposed to be Hieroglyph D280a (as explained in detail), not N41. I'm not sure how you got the idea that it was supposed to be N41. AnonMoos (talk) 05:58, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fella, thats OK as far as I am concerned, I can still search using that... regards!

If you can add 1 or 2 more categories to this rare statue and Tutankhamun's toe and finger protector's, feel free to do so:

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:42, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear JMCC1,

Some of these new images from the Metropolitan Museum can be categorised with the image at the top. They all belong to the same 12th dynasty person, Wah.

Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:19, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, the treasures of the tomb of Princess Sit Hathor Yunet of the 12th dynasty is considered to be some of the finest art of Ancient Egypt and now the MET has permitted 90+ images to be placed on Commons. Goodnight. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:57, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Mattioli – Opera quae extant omnia has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hello JMCC1,

I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around, but since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.

Cheers,

Anna (Cookie) (talk) 14:15, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Imágenes del MET[edit]

Hola, he terminado básicamente.

Commenting out interlanguage links[edit]

Hi, I was reading through the logs of Gabrielchihonglee-Bot and found many instances of no-op edits, which, on close inspection I found that you have commented out the interlanguage links. Do you have a specific reason why the links should be left there, commented out? That way no sane bot would dare editing them --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 05:49, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
