Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with "wines-world.over-blog.com"

File:Tastevin taillé dans du buis origine Auvergne.jpg is also a miserable upscaled image. Varaine is either the owner or contributes to wines-world. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:20, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Interestingly http://img.over-blog-kiwi.com/2/24/66/83/20171109/ob_02b8f9_tastevin-taille-dans-du-buis-origine.jpg is actually a better copy, but still, I don't quite see how we can trust wines-world. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:23, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Brian May at Guitar Trade Show, New Orleans - 1985.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Logos protected by the law[edit]

Hi. Can you delete these logos: File:ParmaCalcio1913 logo-400x400.png, File:FC Internazionale Milano 2014.svg, File:Logo FC Bayern München (2002–2017).svg (for https://www.trademarksandbrandsonline.com/news/fc-bayern-munich-close-down-online-counterfeits-store-4998) and File:Logo-VfL-Wolfsburg.svg. It's the same situation as here: Commons:Deletion requests/File:HK Čukarički.PNG. Should i propose them for deletion?--MSClaudiu (talk) 09:17, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you nominate them for deletion. (The example I deleted was a false "own work" and false licensing claim, making it a clear case. The others are under "below threshold of originality" claims, perhaps debatable, but I am less familiar with non-US law in such cases.) Hi! Could this be undeleted? I found this file lb:File:Justus Lipsius.jpg and I wonder if it is the same file. --MGA73 (talk) 21:29, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the deleted version on Commons and the file on lb:w are the same. I deleted the version on Commons per the link of relevant law at the time. I suggest you check with someone more familiar with Belgium law as to if it is allowed now. However there is a different file at that name on Commons now, so if it is ok I suggest the lb:w file be copied to Commons under a different name. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:17, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! As I understand Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory/Belgium#Freedom_of_panorama then laws were changed so now they have FOP. There is a whole category to undelete per Category:Belgian FOP cases/undeleted. I think the best would be to undelete the file on Commons instead of copying from lb.wiki (to give credit to original photographer). It will ofcourse be needed to move the excisting file either permanent or temporary or to delete it temporary. :-) I will start a formal undel request so we can be sure ppl have a chance to comment so we are sure it is cool. --MGA73 (talk) 17:42, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr2Commons[edit]

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first").--A1Cafel (talk) 16:43, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I haven't done uploading from Flickr via downloading to my computer in many years, since the early years of Commons. I've usually been using Upload Wizard in recent years, seems fairly easy - I remember my uploads used have the licenses auto confirmed, for some reason it seems to have stopped doing that for me. Doesn't Upload Wizard automatically do the largest size? I'll check out the Flickr2Commons tool (I may have used an earlier version of that years ago, but found Upload Wizard easier). Thanks again for your feedback! Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:06, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kari Stefnasson photo deleted[edit]

Hi Infrogrmation, I wanted to write to you as an administrator recommended by Wikicommons as someone who can advise - or help to resolve - conflicts over the deletion of images uploaded to the commons. Now that I have read your page, I realize that it's serendipity that I chose you out of a list of hundreds of administrators, mainly because I liked your name. The issue I am having is the opposite of the blanket license policy that you have taken strong exception to. In a nutshell, I was adding an infobox to the Wikipedia page for Kari Stefnasson, the geneticist, and wanted to add a certain photo that I had seen and that was taken by a photographer here in Reykjavik, where I also live. I wrote to Stefansson's company, which I knew had commissioned the photograph and used it on their website and elsewhere, to have them ask the photographer if he would grant a CC4.0 license and upload it to wikipedia. This he did, along with the license. So this was all as it should be: The copyright holder had granted and signed a license to add it to the commons. However a bot then came along and removed it because they saw a similar one online and so presumed that it had been copied without permission and the right license. I have written to the bot's master, an informatician name Magnus Manske in Cambridge UK, and heard nothing back. So I am wondering what I should do. Is it best for me to upload the photo again, accompanied by the signed license from the photographer (he sent a copy to the company and they on to me), and just keep undoing any further deletions until either the bot relents or its master gets in touch? Or should I ask you intervene and see if you can nudge him to bring his bot - Regasterios - to heel.

The note on the page was as follows: 19:13, 29 January 2020‎ CommonsDelinker talk contribs‎ 101,730 bytes -46‎ Removing Dr-Kari-Stefansson-CEO-of-deCODE-genetics.jpg, it has been deleted from Commons by Regasterios because: Copyright violation, found elsewhere undo

Any thoughts or help you might have would be greatly appreciated in the cause of enabling a photographer to make use of a permission that he has generaously granted!

Cheers, Lehmansson (talk) 21:02, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It looks like the photo you're talking about was File:Dr-Kari-Stefansson-CEO-of-deCODE-genetics.jpg, which was uploaded by User:Christopher Lund, and tagged for deletion by User:Patrick_Rogel, and deleted by User:Regasterios. (You might wish to contact those two about this as well at their talk page, User_talk:Patrick_Rogel and User_talk:Regasterios respectively.) Confirmation of licensing of photos by third parties can be sent to Commons:OTRS, usually the best way if you are uploading something copyrighted by someone other than yourself. It can be listed at Commons:Undeletion requests. Does this answer your questions? What is the connection between you and the uploader of the file, User:Christopher Lund? Hello Infrogmation, it appears that the version of File:Freret New Orleans 15th November 2017 - 37.jpg which you uploaded 2020-02-12T19:06:32Z is broken or corrupt. Please review the image and attempt to correct this issue by uploading a new version of the file. TheSandBot will re-review this image again in 7 days. If it is still corrupt at that time, then the file may be nominated for deletion. This is most likely to happen when a substantial portion of the image is corrupt. Thank you,

Thanks for uploading File:Presidencia de Guatemala - Alejandro Giammattei en Quetzaltengo Feb 2020 06.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first").--A1Cafel (talk) 04:14, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't download them to my own computer. I use the "Upload Wizard", which has all of the functionalities you mention. I'm unsure why a different tool would be preferred. What other differences? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 04:21, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I took the photo through a window with a screen. (I did not know this procession would be passing by where I was working; I was unable to go out and follow it to get better photos. I thought a quick snapshot through the window was better than no photo of it.) Cheers. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:38, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The picture of the rusty Buick Century you taken in New Orleans in 2007 is specifically the 1985 model year by the grille design, as well as the 1963 Impala parked in front. What is the white car park behind the Century?

New Orleans Rivergate Convention Center[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation, As a Wikipedian that often writes / edits on subjects related to New Orleans, I appreciate the many photographs that you upload to the Commons. Do you know of a publicly available photograph of the New Orleans Rivergate Convention Center? I'm working on an article about the now defunct New Orleans architectural firm Curtis & Davis, which designed the Rivergate (and many other notable structures in NOLA and elsewhere), and I'd like to include a photograph. Thank you! Nolabob (talk) 21:43, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, sorry. I didn't photograph it myself (I wasn't really thinking of documenting such things back then), and haven't come across any free licensed nor PD images. There may well be such out there, something to keep looking for! Cheers! Thanks for your work. Red beans & ricely, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:33, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed some local postcard photographers failed to put proper copyright notices on their works... might be a good bet... I'll take a quick look online, of course one needs to see the back of the card and have some evidence it predates 1978 to confirm status. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:40, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nolabob: A possibility seen here! No copyright notice... if we could confirm it predates 1978 we're in business. Looks like the Battle of Liberty Place Monument was in front of the Rivergate at the time... that would likely give a date range I think. Was that where the Joan of Arc statue later went? If we can confirm it's before Joannie came there, this is good {{PD-US no notice}}! Any help with date info? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Infrogmation, that's a great photograph. How should we proceed on this? Nolabob (talk) 00:07, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked a couple of other New Orleans history fans elsewhere on-line if they know/can see anything that would confirm the proper date range as well. If we get a confirmed proper date range, I'll take care of copying to Commons. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:10, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alas no luck *yet*. Haven't gotten an exact chronology of when the BLP monument was there with it's multiple moves (if you have any hints on determining that, it'd be welcome). Another possible card without copyright notice is this one - thing is we have to have some fact that shows, rather than just suspect, it's pre-1978. Too bad no visible automobiles or other buildings that could be dated for construction/demolition. Other folks I asked think it's likely the views were from early in the Rivergate's history. I was reminded that it seemed to attract soot and automobile exhaust, and didn't look so clean for long! I do remember it looking grimy. I suspect we'll find something confirmable PD *eventually*.... P.S. - I should mention another way of establishing postcard date is to find a *used* one with a postmark or other inscribed date, which would mean first printing would have to be before then. Keep a lookout! Yours in Gumbo, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:57, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the update. I don't have any ideas on this right now but appreciate your guidance and efforts. Nolabob (talk) 00:48, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thank you! I much appreciate this. Sorry, I don't know what the building is. Regards, Nolabob (talk) 11:28, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I figured it out - the building was originally the WTC Parking Garage, and is still there, incorporated into the Hilton complex as their parking garage. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:51, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mean to impose on you, Infrogmation, but another photographic record that is missing is that of St. Frances Cabrini Church in New Orleans. This is another one that was architecturally distinct, also designed by Curtis & Davis. In fact, the Wikipedia article on St. Frances Cabrini Church in New Orleans lacks a photograph. This church was demolished, with some controversy, in 2007. Do you know of a publicly available photograph of that church? Many thanks as always for your dedication to documenting the people, history, and culture of NOLA. Nolabob (talk) 13:40, 17 October 2020 (UTC).[reply]

I see we have one of the demo in progress File:Cabrini Demo - Paris Avenue, New Orleans.jpg. I got a mediocre snapshot of it while driving around after the Federal Flood near the London Avenue Canal breeches File:7WardBrokeSteeple.jpg (Alas not a part of town I was much familiar with and by the time I found out it was important and worth more effort to photograph it was already gone). I'll keep an eye out for other images. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:30, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found and uploaded some more of the demolition from Flickr, and started a category: Category:St. Frances Cabrini Church (New Orleans). -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:49, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks! Nolabob (talk) 00:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NOLA photos wish list[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation. I'm not trying to be burdensome on you, but I wanted to suggest to you some photos that are needed for the Commons and for the accompanying Wikipedia articles. Perhaps you can keep these in mind during your endeavors in the coming weeks / months / years. Here's the wish list: Noted NOLA broadcast journalists Hap Glaudi, Wayne Mack, Buddy Diliberto, and Mel Leavitt. Also, these architecturally distinct buildings: Caribe Building (still exists, it is at 2475 Canal St. -- I'd take a photo myself but I don't live near NOLA and can't travel in the pandemic), the Municipal Court House on Rampart St. (demolished), the Thomy Lafon School (demolished), and George Washington Carver School (destroyed in H. Katrina). Many thanks in advance for putting some thought into these possibilities. Nolabob (talk) 00:04, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Courthouse on Rampart? Where was that? Or is that the one that was where the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library is now? I know we have a few images of that already. I'll see if we have some images of 2475 Canal here already. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:19, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've not been able to find the exact address of the Courthouse on Rampart, only that it was very close to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. As I understand the story, parishioners at that church back in the 1950s when the court house was built were highly offended by the nude sculpture by Enrique Alferez that adorned the court house. City fathers then had to take down the sculpture, which was subsequently lost, even though it evidently was a fine work of art. Nolabob (talk) 00:24, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A courthouse near OLoG on Rampart in the 1950s new one on me. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 02:42, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another one for the list -- There's a bronze marker commemorating those who died at the Battle of Shiloh at the base of a large tree in Chalmette National Cemetery. Nolabob (talk) 12:05, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Much appreciated. I'll add one or more to the article in Wikipedia on Curtis & Davis very soon. Nolabob (talk) 12:26, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of license tags[edit]

Hello Infrogmation. Please do not remove license tags from files, as you did in this edit. Removing a license tag, especially without an edit summary, puts the file in a not-well-monitored backlog, makes more work for other administrators, and does not resolve any concerns about the copyright status of a file. If you believe the stated copyright status of a file is incorrect, please nominate the file for deletion or fix the description page yourself. Thanks, AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:32, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The license was clearly fraudulent. I guess I should have just listed it for deletion, which I shall do now. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:23, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reminder. I was in the process of going through files from a user that seemed to upload many files under incorrect licenses when I got distracted. Cheers. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 03:18, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Voting lines?[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:2008_Wash_State_Democratic_Caucus_10A.jpg&diff=510776659&oldid=487136184: not sure I agree with this. They are standing in line to sign in to attend a caucus. While voting is, indeed, part of the caucus process, the same is true for a party convention. Would you call the line to sign in at a party convention a "voting line" as well? - Jmabel ! talk 15:31, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK, good point, thanks! -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:58, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Translation ????[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation, wondering why you added this to the file description. Do you speak Dutch? I replaced the text because it is vulgar. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 15:18, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Only me again, going through the edit history of this anonymous user, in all fairness, I think the IP address should be blocked. Lotje (talk) 15:26, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I guess I assumed good faith and moved anon's text to the proper language place. I should have checked with an online translator first for a language I don't speak! I see the anon has a history of such inappropriate edits going back for years, and has had previous shorter blocks. I reblocked them for 2 years. Thank you for your attention and edits, and for alerting me to this. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:42, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are very welcome Infrogmation. Glad I could be of any help. :-) Lotje (talk) 10:28, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other NOLA historical photographs[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation, Do you know of any photographs of Schwegmann's Supermarkets in the Commons or otherwise in the public domain without copyright restriction? I'm referring to their large stores, such as what were on Airline Highway and also on Broad Street. They were forerunners of today's "big box retailers", and I'm considering writing a Wikipedia article on the subject. For that matter, photos of John Schwegmann himself are of interest. Thank you! Nolabob (talk) 13:54, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On another matter, do you know of photographs available for use of the Granada Theater, which was located at 2256 Baronne Street? The theater was designed by noted NOLA architect Leon C. Weiss, also a Huey Long crony. I have an article under development in my Wikipedia sandbox on Weiss. As always, I appreciate your efforts on documenting the people, history and culture of New Orleans. Nolabob (talk) 13:54, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've created a category Category:Schwegmann's. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:18, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Thank you. I'll be making use of them in the Wikipedia as my projects evolve in the coming months. Nolabob (talk) 12:03, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
