Renaming confusion

These 4 files must be renamed because the current names are confusing, irrelevant and the opposite of helpful. These are not ancient but 18th to 19th century or more modern art or depictions. This is an Albanian warrior-rebel [1] and not an ancient Illyrian from 2500 years ago. These are dancing a dance and are not from 2500 years ago [2]. Same here, not dardanians and not in dardania, that did not exist when they danced [3]. And this image is the eagle on the Albanian flag, it has nothing to do with the ancient Greek site of dodona and the god of Greek myth, Zeus [4].

It would be faster and easier if you requested the renames using {{Rename}}. INeverCry 17:11, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
I have and people don't understand whey they need be renamed as they think that it is an Italian to English issue or something of the sort.MaryroseB54 ( talk) 19:49, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Deleted File

Hi there,

File:David_Carroll.jpg. has just been deleted. The owner emailed a statement of permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org but I know management is volunteer based and takes time. If you have time to restore the file that'd be appreciated. The ticket number of the owner's message is 2016071410020061.

many thanks Davidcarroll (talk) 22:41, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

INC, picture with no {{Consent}} are not SD-able, are you saying? The event was indeed semi-public places but there were reasonable expectation of privacy for their ability to opt-out for photography. (Actually I was photographed against my will and I'm contacting OSes.) — regards, Revi 12:27, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
@-revi: I think it really depends on the case at hand. These images were taken at a public conference where there were dozens of people. That there would be photographs taken is a sure thing, especially nowadays with IPhones, etc. These images show groups of people doing nothing at all embarrassing or that would reflect badly on them. The only times I would speedy delete something like these is if the uploader themselves requested the deletion shortly after upload, if there was nudity, if there was intent to bully or make fun of someone, if there was drunkenness or drug consumption, or if the images were of children. With that said, if you or another admin were to speedy delete these, you wouldn't hear any objections from me. INeverCry 18:14, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
Actually, I've contacted the organizer and the photographer, and the photographer said he's ok that his photo get deleted if such cases (no photography requested). I'm not deleting it now though, as I need some sleep at 3AM :-p — regards, Revi 18:17, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Freedom of panorama in Belgium

Hello! I noticed that you deleted the file "File:Atomium - 1958.jpg" claiming it to be a copyright violation. And that it would have been up until ten days ago. However, as you can see here Belgium adopted freedom of panorama from July 15 onwards. Tasnim review

I'm uploading many number of Tasnim photos and it would be hard for others to check them, as I know the rule I think it's better to have an access that I could review my own uploaded files. So would you please let me have autopatroller and image reviewer access. --Freshman404Talk 05:46, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Image Reviewers aren't allowed to review their own uploads under Commons policy, so there's no point in that. You'd have to pass a request for that right anyways, which would be a waste of time. I've autopatrolled you to make it easier for others to review your uploads. I can handle most or even all of them myself. All you really need to do is make sure you've got all the sources right and the descriptions and other details right so I can do the reviews quickly and easily. INeverCry 06:49, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

1-Marcelo Chierighini is a Brazilian swimmer, world famous, which has articles in SEVEN Wikipedias. Look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcelo_Chierighini . 2- There is no picture of him in the Commons today, we need pictures of him;

3-User Felipe Chierighini is direct relative of him (possibly brother, I don't know), I've found him posting in PT-Wiki and asked him to include photos of Marcelo, as only he could get pictures of it with free license. Why are you trying to delete the pictures? They are valid and legitimate!! 179.199.135.124 12:38, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

"I don't want to" as reason for deletion

Greetings! There was a recent nomination — Commons:Deletion requests/File:Summer botany.JPG. The deletion was requested by the author on the grounds of "I don't want my pic to be here". But as I understand CC-BY-SA license, this is illegitimate reason: once licensed, the rights are transferred and can't be withdrawn — by terms of the license. I don't actually want to restore the file, I want to clarify the policies for me: is this a common Commons practice to fulfil such requests, or is this your particular decision? --ssr (talk) 12:19, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Но при использовании файла, не предупреждают об этом. http://e-history.kz/ru/publications/view/621 --Oscuro (talk) 21:30, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

I saw. But it isn't 3.4 an educational purpose. Не было такого флага, это водит читателей с разных стран мира в заблуждение о символике Казахского ханства. --Oscuro (talk) 21:39, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
This is used on dozens of wikis. Commons doesn't dictate to these wikis which flags should be used. You would have to replace all those usages before the file could be considered for deletion here. Don't revert me again or you'll be blocked. INeverCry 22:28, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
--Oscuro (talk) 22:41, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
The deletion request is closed. The file is widely used. If you opened the DR again, the result will be the same. Why waste time? Reverting me doesn't even open the deletion request again anyways. It just puts the old tag up where nobody can see it. INeverCry 22:50, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
Немного удивляет Ваша принципиальность и поспешное принятие решения. --Oscuro (talk) 23:09, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
I have no personal interest in this. I was just following COM:INUSE, which is a long-established policy on Commons. If you want to re-nominate the image for deletion, you have to use the link on the left side of your screen that says "Nominate for deletion". This is the only way to start a new request. Good luck with it. INeverCry 23:40, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Kanwal Ameen

Where can I see the original image and license for the image you just deleted as a copyvio? Atsme 📞 23:09, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

File:Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen.jpg 222 × 227 (6,493 bytes) Google Image search was marked for speedy deletion as coming from https://www.linkedin.com/in/kanwal-ameen-761b9b15. It was transferred from en.wiki on 17 October 2015. The uploader gave this info: Chairperson Department of Information Management, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan 2014-06-20 Author = Rahmatgee. That tiny thumb size is concerning in and of itself. If this person is the photographer, a larger file with metadata would be expected. My thought is that the file probably comes from http://iciml.pu.edu.pk (careful, this takes a long time to load - the image in question is at bottom left) and was used in the linkedin profile by the subject. This is an official portrait, so the uploader would have to provide convincing OTRS info that he's connected to the University, or would have to upload a larger version with EXIF. INeverCry 23:33, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Who marked it for speedy delete and under what premise? The reason I ask - we just finished a rather lengthy AfD that closed as no consensus, and then poof - out of the blue, her image disappeared. Anyway, the image for the infobox doesn't need to be a big picture - it should have been kept local to begin with, not here on Commons. So let me understand clearly - an editor tagged it for speedy delete - who? - and you deleted it because you "suspected" a copyvio even though the uploader claimed ownership at the time of upload. Well, if you think a copyvio is involved, then you need to speedy delete :File:Professor_Dr._Khalid_Mahmood.jpg because the same editor uploaded both images of the two professors, colleagues in the same department at the same university. Thanks for pointing out that other upload. That and the few other images he's uploaded look to be copyvios as well. See Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Rahmatgee. As for who tagged it, that can be seen at his talk. He's had several other uploads deleted. Sometimes new users have a hard time with COM:CB and especially COM:NETCOPYVIO. One of our basic policies for handling possible copyvios is COM:PRP. We get around 1,000 copyvios uploaded here per day, out of about 10,000 daily image uploads, which can be difficult for the small number of active admins and new uploads patrollers we have (about 25 admins and maybe the same number of people patrolling new uploads). It was the same way when I was an administrator over on Wikipedia in 2013; we had only a handful of people dealing with FFD and PUF (mostly me and Diannaa at the time). INeverCry 19:10, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
INeverCry - I did some research and discovered the deleted image was used in a press release here; therefore it is acceptable as a local upload on en.Wikipedia per Wikipedia:File_copyright_tags/Non-free. I hate to add more work to your already busy schedule, but can you please recover that image and upload it locally per the fair use Promotional material? Atsme 📞 17:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@Atsme: I've temporarily restored it so it can be uploaded to Wikipedia: File:Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen.jpg. I haven't done anything with fair use over there in years, so I'm sure you can get that handled much better and faster than I could. INeverCry 18:56, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you kindly! I'll upload the image over there and will notify you when it's done. Your efforts are much appreciated. Atsme 📞 19:17, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Morteza Aviny

Can you please say how your deletion of Morteza Avini photo is in accordance with Commons:PRP? Thanks. --Mhhossein (talk) 05:15, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Czar's comments and concerns at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Morteza Aviny.jpg state the case pretty well, along with your own comment at bottom about OTRS. This small B&W portrait (186 × 266 (10,114 bytes)) isn't like the war photography on that site. I know of course that pro photogs often downsize their images to protect their monetary value, but a 10kb thumb like this is unusually small. INeverCry 19:22, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I'll try to find him and ask him upload the real size image, if I can. --Mhhossein (talk) 06:51, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

This failed a license review by my fellow admin Czar. I think there was some issue with how and where Marxists.org obtain the images they use, and what rights they have to publish them under free licenses. INeverCry 04:06, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
The issue with this one was that it listed its source as "http://www.marxists.org/admin/volunteers/steering.htm" but the image was not there. And the Internet Archive does not host older versions of the page due to its robots.txt file. INC is referring to another (separate) issue with the site's image policy, in which the site listed images as public domain that were not. czar 04:11, 1 Augus
the file was from 2007. I think the website is changed in 9 years. --2003:4D:2C1D:FB08:DCD:4EEF:60DD:C44 04:15, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for changing the name of the photo as requested. When I used to type my name in google, it was some 8th page hence I wanted it to be proper. I just saw one more photo uploaded by me, of Rajgad Fort. You may like to see this as well. This is also a beautiful photo. It must be looking great in this season when all the yellow grass becomes green! --Abhijeet Safai (talk) 06:02, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

I prefer the less hazy view given in File:.... Rajgad 16.JPG. Most of the photos in that series are excellent. A few suffer from the haze, but there's not a lot you could've done about that. INeverCry 06:12, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

You deleted it based on a "no permission" tag, but was uploaded as own-work. The tagger (User:Marchjuly) said it "Looks like a screenshot" (edit-summary for adding the tag), but EXIF and comparison to File:It's Academic 2009-12-12.jpg (other upload by same person) suggest to me it is reasonably an actual live photograph. Should we take it to COM:DR, just discuss it here further? DMacks (talk) 06:40, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

I think you're right. I've restored it. INeverCry 07:04, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@INeverCry and DMacks: I noticed the EXIF data only after I made that edit sum. FWIW, my intent was to go back and make a dummy edit to correct it and remove the tag, but I got busy and neglected to do so. I apologize for any confusion/problems this caused. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:15, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

"Excessive vandalism" protect

Re: [10]

Hello. Looking at the page history for that file page, I can only surmise that the "excessive vandalism" refers to my image replacements, which were based on discussion at en-wiki. What in my upload comments looks like vandalism to you? My username at Commons may be redlinked, and I don't have much history here, but I do have three years and 26,000 edits (and an Editor-of-the-Week award) at en-wiki and zero history of vandalism there or here. Unless I'm reading this wrong, your protection of the page was fairly poor judgment. I'm no longer involved with that image or the en-wiki article that used to include it, so I don't really care that much, but I'm curious as to how this could have happened. Mandruss (talk) 21:24, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

@Mandruss: There are 73 deleted revisions of this file which are overwrites by blocked VOA account EditsOrArticles. The protection is meant to stop further socking/vandalism/overwrites by that individual. INeverCry 21:30, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
I see, thank you for the explanation. I wasn't aware you could have deleted revisions with no indication in the history. Have a nice day! Mandruss (talk) 21:35, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@Mandruss: Can you see these log entries: [11]? There should be a link at top left on any file page that says "View logs for this page" when you click on the "History" tab. Only hidden or oversighted revisions should be completely invisible to regular editors. INeverCry 21:41, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I can see that. But if there is an analagous situation at en-wiki, my three years is not long enough to have experienced it. I've never had to look any further than the page history itself, or perhaps the talk page, to see the reason for protection. Not a big deal, and I'm unlikely to see it again here. Mandruss (talk) 21:42, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the talk page protect

That user under various IPs and sockpuppet accounts has been harassing me and User:MarnetteD and User:Sro23 on this and other wikis and wikias when they get blocked on Wikipedia. Because, you know, that's such the mature thing to do. I actually find their attacks amusing, which is why I restored their edit on my talk page. Again, thanks for the protect. Cheers!  :)

Those antics can be amusing to a certain extent, but some of these guys do this for years and years. Look at Wikinger and FutPerf or David Beals and Ian Thomson. I have one sockmaster here, Jermboy27, who's done 500,000+ edits here with sock IPs over the course of 8+years... INeverCry 22:52, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry!

You recently deleted File:Waddington_epigenetics.jpg and File:Close-up_aerial_photo_of_The_Lange_Wand.jpg, I believe for no source. Can you briefly restore these so I can import them to Wikiversity and return them to my lectures. I can put their copyrights at Fair use and attempt to find sources. We recently had the Phabricator allow us to import from Commons but the file needs to be temporarily restored to allow this.

Deleted? A withdrawn deletion order, for a used image (a cropped version)? The original should remain too, I think. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Snowhite.jpg -- Kürschner (talk) 06:45, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

This was deleted per uploader request of KristinaLupa with 7 days of upload, which is allowed per policy (Commons:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#General_reasons #7) as the image was unused: [12]. I've also deleted the cropped version since the full version deletion leaves that unsourced (it would be discourteous to keep a cropped version of something the uploader wanted deleted anyways, especially as she's a new user, and that would be taking advantage of her). I've re-closed the DR to make this clear. She made her request while the DR was open (uploaded on 25th, DR on 27th, uploader speedy on 28th) - I must've missed the DR tag when I did the speedy delete and closed the DR as a formality later when I was doing daily DR closes. Sorry for the confusion. INeverCry 16:12, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
It is ok, i did not notice that the request came from the uploader. Thank you! -- Kürschner (talk) 16:34, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Earlier discussion

You have deleted a file that had, right under it, commons licensing. If you had read below the initial warning you would have read it. I understand the resolve you have for licensing, but you must understand my resolve that you read a bit further down the page before you delete other people's work. Dwt2 (talk) 05:23, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

So, now, tell me please, how I can upload the image for which an email of licence was displayed with the image. When I try to upload it now, the site auto rejects it. I need you to fix this please as you are responsible for this deletion. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwt2 (talk • contribs) 05:37, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

You stated in the description of this file "Original art by Reggie Graham". We need OTRS permission from Reggie Graham to host this file on Commons. INeverCry 19:25, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
I've deleted the other artwork/image by Mr. Graham. Since you've declared that you're David Thomas and not the artist, we have to have evidence that Mr. Graham releases his work under a free license in order to protect his copyright and make sure the files are safe for Commons to host. INeverCry 19:37, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

It was there. After the notice of licence was posted Mr. Graham registered the art and his permission was displayed beneath the warning. You missed that when you deleted the image. Dwt2 (talk) 22:13, 31 July 2016 (UTC) You have deleted two files now. You are not acting in the best interest of this community.Dwt2 (talk) 22:17, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm looking at the deleted file right now. There was no permission. Here's the info you gave upon upload:

== {{int:license-header}} ==

You uploaded the other file as own work as well, but labeled it as being by Mr. Graham. This isn't your own work, so you can't license it with {{Self}} or claim it as {{Own}} work. Only Mr. Graham can provide a free license. We need OTRS permission from Mr. Graham for these files. INeverCry 22:35, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. You see, I do own the art because I commissioned it for creative commons use. Alas, I wanted to give credit to the artist who drew it for me. I then asked him, to avoid any confusion between me and him, to go onto the site and add the permission using the generator at https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/

He did this and the permission by email appeared right away. As for the other image, I got him to do the same after I uploaded that one and the licence information was displayed with the image too. I don't understand why that is not there. It is not with the upload but it was associate with the image after the upload. Thanks for your reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwt2 (talk • contribs) 06:06, 01 August 2016 (UTC)

BTW, the proof of email for the second piece of art that you removed is Ticket#: 2016072410011178 Dwt2 (talk) 16:53, 1 August 2016 (UTC) Reg could not find the first one he sent (although it was shown on the site) but registered it AGAIN as shown below. Hope this is sufficient.

That should take care of it. An OTRS member will process and confirm the email and then restore the images, or they'll ask an admin like me to do so. If you have questions about progress in the processing of the ticket, you can ask at the OTRS noticeboard. INeverCry 19:01, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. I hope this can be done soon. The page is to be reviewed this week. Dwt2 (talk) 03:30, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Now help me understand this, please. When I click on the link https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:History_of_Thought.png. it says that the image is deleted but I can upload it again. Is this true? Is it really deleted or will it, as you indicated, be restored. I'm a bit confused here.Dwt2 (talk) 05:14, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

The OTRS member you're dealing with should be able to restore it for you or request that it be restored. Re-uploading it before OTRS processes and confirms the permission would just get it deleted again. Email OTRS about the ticket or post at the OTRS Noticeboard. They're busy so the image may not be restored quickly. INeverCry 05:47, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll follow up with them by email. Dwt2 (talk) 00:55, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Caribbean visa file

He INeverCry, you deleted over 1 year ago File:VisumKonderNedCaribischGebied.png, an image of the visa for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean (and used on this page: en:Visa policy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean). The request was here: Deletion requests/File:VisumKonderNedCaribischGebied.png. I may or may not have added the right copyright tag (I really don't remember; and my way of doing it was in the earlier days less precise). Could you find out what the copyright rationale was?

I have however added similar files under the rationale that Dutch legislation is free of copyright, and such an image stemmed directly from (the annex of) such legislation. So if I used a different rationale here, I will simply re-upload. But if I already used this rationale, I'd like your advice on how to proceed... L.tak (talk) 15:08, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

The license used was {{PD-NL-Gov/nl}}, the deletion rationale can be seen at Commons:Deletion requests/File:VisumKonderNedCaribischGebied.png. Stefan4 is one of our most knowledgeable copyright experts, so you may want to discuss this with him. Otherwise I would suggest filing an undeletion request at COM:UDEL. I will (just regret I didn't see the notice last year so we could have the in depth discussion then). Do you have a link of where I got it from, so we have everything available for the discussion? La mia intenzione era quella di caricare il file, frutto di un mio studio, in wikipedia, in modo che digitando in google.it il termine "curve algebriche" apparisse il collegamento al file. Deletion of file: Tristan Meinecke 1916-2004.jpg

The named file was deleted for copyright violation. It was a cropped image from a family photograph from the estate of Tristan Meinecke, which the family has given permission to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The photographer was Tristan Meinecke's brother, now deceased. Other deleted files include: File:Tristan Meinecke 1942 watercolor inv no1-1.jpg. Image of one of Tristan Meinecke's paintings, photograph taken by his son Brad Meinecke, who owns the print and digital rights to both works and has given permission for them to be uploaded. File:Robert Bruce Tague.jpg A photograph of Robert Bruce Tague taken by Tristan Meinecke and included in his estate. Tague had no heirs so I treated his effects found with Tristan's estate as part of his estate. File:Meinecke - Tague building circa 1960.jpg A photograph taken by Meinecke of a property he and Tague designed. If ownership of the building is the issue I won't contest this one. But the family has given permission for the photograph to be uploaded. Some of these photographs also appear at tmeinecke.com, a website created by Tristan's son Brad Meinecke who owns the rights to them. Many thanks. Zarathuddite

I'm a bit confused here. Does the PD photograph source trump the copyright on the bottom of the page here, considering that the user has now uploaded a HQ version that is probably from there? MSJapan (talk) 04:05, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Since the photograph is indicated to be by a US Army photographer (http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205125361), the All Rights Reserved license is invalid per {{PD-USGov-Military-Army}}. INeverCry 04:54, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Contributions by User:Elite Entertainment

Hello, INeverCry. How do you do?

I was wondering if you could take a look at User:Elite Entertainment's contributions which aren't many. I find them a bit suspicious. You see, most of them are thumbnail-sized (322 × 480) but have high photographic quality. It seems they could have been just taken from the web instead of being his own work.

I need an advice as to whether I should proceed with a deletion request.

Best regards,

Chelsea Manning photo

You removed chelsea2008.jpeg saying that it did not have appropriate licensing. However, I do believe that I included the license, which is CC-BY-SA, and which shows on the web page with the photo. Hi ! Sorry to bother you, but I'm surprised by the argument you used for the conservation. There is an OTRS ticket, which means the painter agrees that the picture can be in Commons, but the question was about the right of the photographer who took the picture the painting is based of. If you think it's ok as well, could you please provide an explanation in the Deletion request ? Thanks ! Léna (talk) 08:03, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

@Léna: . The OTRS ticket was added by a trusted OTRS member and fellow administrator, Thibaut120094 [17], after your deletion request had been started. I thought that meant the OTRS ticket was sufficient. If Thibaut120094 doesn't think the ticket is sufficient, he can simply delete the image or tag it with an OTRS received tag. A deletion request where nobody who's voting can see the OTRS ticket doesn't seem like the way to find a correct outcome. INeverCry 19:44, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Question It's possible add to blacklist to szm? is very, very persistent for vandalism, see Szm306, on the future 306szm. Ks [在这里找到答案] 18:13, 13 August 2016 (UTC).
@Ks-M9: Sock blocked, uploads nuked. It might be possible to create an abuse filter to trap or prevent his socks, but from my long experience that wouldn't be a good idea. Right now he creates socks that we can easily find. If you filter account creation, he may just go to using socks with different names that're harder to find and confirm. We have another guy we've been fighting for a long time, Category:Sockpuppets of Milanopablojavier24, who's naming pattern is my best method of finding his new socks. The naming tells me that this Szm sockmaster is an attention-craver. These guys can be a chore to deal with, but they're much easier to fight than sockmasters like Chace Watson or Josh Rumage who put a lot of effort into staying hidden. I would suggest using Special:ListUsers when you come online, as that can be an easy way to find socks with a naming patern like Czm. INeverCry 19:33, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Need your help

Please see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:An_Errant_Knight#Coffeehouses_.2F_Caf.C3.A9s and consider undeleting the category you removed. You could even reverse out all the edits if you want; I think the user has gotten a bit beyond himself here and in other places. Cheers!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 14:54, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: I've seen this guy quite a bit. A list of his category switches is needed, as he must've emptied categories with cat-a-lot and then tagged the old cats for deletion, so we'd have to restore the old cats and repopulate them. We also need to get him to agree to stopping this or block him if he won't. I'll look into this more thoroughly when I get a shot. For the moment just know that you or Jmabel are free to undo any related deletions I've done or any other actions. I trust your judgment. Otherwise in a bit I'll look into creating a subpage with all the reversals needed. But with this user live and able to edit, there's the issue of him re-doing these problematic changes, and other admins doing the deletions who aren't familiar with the case. I'll have to see if a short block isn't warranted before a cleanup. Or one of you guys can. INeverCry 20:09, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
I'm not experienced enough at rolling back categories on this massive of a scale, but if you'll point me in the right direction, I'll do what I can. I looked at the contributions and my eyes went like @.@ Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:42, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: You would need to make a list of the categories that were deleted or redirected and the categories that replaced them (scroll through this, especially the middle section, to see an example of what your list would look like). Once you have a workable list, you would undelete the categories that had been deleted, use cat-a-lot to move the files back to the original category, and then delete or redirect the categories created by Errant Knight. If there are any categories that he had redirected, you would delete the redirects and then move the newly created categories back to the old names, and move the files back with cat-a-lot. If you want, you could create a list of the deleted categories you want to restore at a page like User:Ellin Beltz/Categories and I could help with or take care of it. You can easily make a list by copy and pasting from his deleted contributions and his edits in the category namespace. The deleted categories will usually have deletion reasons that show what the new category name is. A quick search of Commons can help with categories that were just deleted as empties. The last thing is what are you going to do with Errant Knight? If he's causing disruption and extra work for others on this scale, an agreement to stop or an indef block will be needed. There would be no use fixing problems if he's going to continue creating them. INeverCry 03:36, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: I'm not quite sure how many problem categories he's created/moved? If it's most or all of them, I would think a block would be unavoidable. People with a special way they think things should be done don't usually give up that special obsession easily. INeverCry 03:43, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
I can't even count how many categories he's moved and/or which would be a problem... he's on a roll though, check out https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/An_Errant_Knight, with notice of situations like : 11 August 2016 . . (+9)‎ . . m ‘Category:State highways in North Dakota’ ‎ (removed ‘Category:State highways in the United States’; added ‘Category:State highways in the United States by state’ using HotCat) Also the Cafe's issue which brought this up in the first place https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Caf%C3%A9s_in_the_United_States where the situation is utter chaos... Cafe's in cities in U.S., Cafe's in states in U.S. (wouldn't the latter contain the former?), complaints about moving coffee houses and coffee shops to Cafe's in states in the U.S., https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:An_Errant_Knight#Coffeehouses_.2F_Caf.C3.A9s and so on. I see users with a lot of category experience cautioning him, but I really do not know how to proceed to fix the situation, nor am I certain that all activies are problem. Do you know an admin who specializes in categories, perhaps with whom I could consult? I am not knowledgeable enough to even prepare the list, I just see what looks like a problem and need help to continue. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:48, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

I myself don't care for pornography, and don't have any need or desire for it, but that's just my personal preference. In this case the file is used on two Wikipedias and doesn't seem to have any copyright issues, so COM:INUSE will likely lead to a keep, the basic point being that we at Commons don't get to dictate to other projects what is or isn't educationally useful. I don't see how this does not comply with the renaming guidelines, the place name "Featherstone" is not part of the name "Station Lane". "Station Lane Featherstone" implies that Featherstone is part of the name of the road. Featherstone is the location eg like London is the location for "Oxford Street", London. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:04, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

I have done so, thanks, I don't think that it just merely looks better (#1) but it is still not part of the name even though I agree that it would still be clear to most people that "Featherstone" isn't part of the name. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:12, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
