• Who is Boomer - could not find him in the english wiki!
• Why uploading the pic of Cristobal Huet, if its source and permission is not clear in the engl. wiki already? This will lead into a fast deletion request!

Thanks! Sometimes it's hard to turn my back on great pictures (copyrights issues), but by digging long enough one can find that many are actually from national libraries and such (public domain).

1. The Boomer... He is from Club de Hockey Canadien (there's a little paragraph about this man further down the page using his picture). His real name is Bernard Geoffrion, and he is the inventor of the slapshot in hockey.
2. Because it was already accessible on the engl wiki, so I took the same chance (blushing)...

Category:Canadiens de Montréal

Yes we need it, for the francophone wiki. But if you really want to remove one of both, you should then remove "Montreal Canadiens" since the real name (registered name) is a french name, "Club de Hockey Canadien Inc.", or "Canadiens de Montréal". Regards, HawkFest 22:57, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

I checked the wiki commons rules - only English category names should be used and no double categories for different languages! Otherwise we would build a category tree for every language... This is not what you and I want, I guess

The "category names are english" rule does not apply for registered names, or names of people and places, unless the englified variant is widely used (like "China"). I agree with that. In our case here, since it is a registered name and NOT a descriptive name, we should then keep the registered name or its common variant. For example, "Canada" is a north american indian name meaning "house" or "long house", but the category name uses Canada, not its english translation... As another example, same thing goes for "Notre-Dame" Cathedral : the category name would be "Notre-Dame", not "Our Lady"... ;-) The NHL Web site uses "Montreal Canadiens", but many other sources, even english ones, also use "Canadiens de Montréal". When you see the official name in or on official jerseys, logos, marketing material, the official french denomination is used, whatever and wherever the market. But do whatever you want, I don't really mind if your personal taste dictates an english name for everything... As long as the category for "Notre-Dame" will also be renamed as "Our Lady"... lol HawkFest 09:40, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

More images with bad/incomplete license claims

Looking through your uploads, I see several more images that have an unclear license status. AP pictures are generally non-free, and pictures from the Archives Canada are often problematic: not all images there are PD, and if they are tagged as PD, it is often unclear by what rationale - according to COM:L#Canada, the hockey are not PD yet. Also, the Archives Canada does not make claims about the status of the pictures in other jurisdictions, such as the US or European countries - we have actually had takedown requests for images (notably for an portrait of Einstein) that where declared as PD by the Archives Canada. Perhaps you can ask them explicitely about images from the "Hockey Hall of Fame"? Thanks. -- Duesentrieb^(?!) 10:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I created the content. And took some time do do so either. It would be quite frustrating to notice that it would be deleted. What should I do more? Hire a lawyer and pay mucho dineros just for giving free stuff upon which wiki will be able to capitalize? lolll just kidding... Actually, I have used different pictures, but just using at most around 50% of each one of them so as to compose the final product, even changing tonaslity for one or two. Is that legal?
