Cool photo. Unfortunately, we can't keep it. Please keep in mind when choosing photos on flickr to upload to Commons that we can only keep images that are licensed by the original photographer in such a way that anyone can copy, modify, publish and distribute the photo and use it for any purpose (we call this freely licensed), although we do permit attribution and share-alike license limitations. An all rights reserved copyright license, which is what this image was published under on flickr, restricts all of these actions. -Brynn (talk!) 14:14, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Explicit!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. File:Happy Pledis - Love Letter.ogg

This is a sample less than 10% of the song, edited to the lowest quality using Audacity, so why? those were the criteria right?

Because that content is fully copyrighted by Pledis. On Commons, only files with free license, such as a public domain or Creative Commons license, can be uploaded here. Uploading samples of these songs infringed on the copyright of the record company. You can upload them at the English Wikipedia as long as they meet the non-free content criteria policy and follow the Manual of Style for music samples. — ξxplicit 17:13, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One OK Rock, CN Blue and more!

Hi Explicit! I wanted to thank you for adding to One OK Rock's photo pool! I'm so glad the USA is showing them a lot of love! I realized too late that I should have asked them for individual photos for WP and they would have given them (Orlando, CFE Arena - BacktotheFutureHearts Tour)! Taka was still inside with Sleeping with Sirens, et al - so I didn't get him. Lots of us didn't hear him say they were doing a photo signing after their opening, so we missed it - but we were lucky to catch them by their bus - they were very very nice!!! I would love to have seen them in the small club that you did! I debated flying up to NYC for Best Buy - but wanted to greet them in Florida - all the K-pop fans were there to see them! hahaha!!! They didn't come south with the Vans Warped tour last year.

I see you've done work on CN Blue's photos, too - I didn't get any for Blue Moon Tour at Best Buy in NYC, but I did update the WP page (and held my breath when all the tours started getting taken down! I was so happy to see all the media attention it got!

I glanced at your page creation history, and bingo - we hit #3!!! You created Miguel's page - way back when! Congratulations! I saw him here in Miami with Alicia Keys in 2013.

I currently only follow K-pop, with the exception of One OK Rock and The Weeknd! If you say you like The Weeknd, too - we are too much alike!!! I will see him at the American Airlines Arena Dec. 19 - my 3rd concert - I saw him in 2012 and 2013 here, but 2014 was a New Year's thing on the beach and I didn't go. Who dreamed he would make it this big? He didn't!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 20:30, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was a free mini live and autograph session, there was no way I was going to miss it. I just wish I had a better camera. :-( The only thing we don't match up on is The Weeknd... in general, I don't care for PBR&B. — ξxplicit 06:57, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear ξxplicit - thanks for pointing out about PBR&B, I'm fine with the category, having grown up with Michael Jackson and a larger culture of pop music of the day, that included R&B; however, I didn't know what genre I sat in. However, you must really feel conflicted, due to your work on Miguel's (Wikipedia page creation) and cultural meme, who calls it a "higher art" after being included....--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 09:26, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

images from Tistory

Hi Explicit,
many of your recent uploads from Tistory have been tagged as copyvios per the following rationales: Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Images_from_toto1024.tistory.com and User_talk:-revi/Archive/2014#Images_of_http:.2F.2Ftoto1024.tistory.com.2F, and accordingly have been speedy-deleted. --Túrelio (talk) 20:05, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Túrelio: Hi, I was going to dispute the claim, but the images were deleted before I had the opportunity. In my argument, I was going to make a few points. First, the obvious: Creative Commons licenses can not be revoked. Regardless as to whether the copyright owner willing changed the license (which they haven't for pre-June 11, 2013 images) or weren't aware of its implications, they can not stop the use of their work even if they change the licensing terms. Additional, per Creative Commons: Central to our licenses is the grant of a standard set of permissions in advance, without requiring users to ask for permission or seek clarification before using the work. The deletion discussion did not take this into consideration. I understand the well-intended act of courtesy, but it flies directly in the face of how CC works in the first place. I'd like to draw a parallel to File:Macaca nigra self-portrait large.jpg. Although not a CC image, I think the circumstances are similar enough; the photo simply can not be copyrighted because it was created by a non-human, and that same courtesy of deletion was not extended despite the photographer's intent and subsequent legal advance. Second, the CC symbol at the bottom right corner specifically licenses the items in the post under the license chosen. The claim that it's not specific enough is flat-out incorrect in that regard. Lastly, I don't believe the implementation of the precautionary principle was done correctly in this case; the images were licensed under an appropriate CC license, and per Creative Commons that I linked earlier in my paragraph, that's as far as anyone needs to go. This should have, at the very least, been subject to another full discussion. — ξxplicit 20:57, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't involved in the main Tistory DR, so I'm not prepared to discuss details about that. And, I wouldn't recommend to mix the Tistory "case" with the "Monkey selfie" case, as the latter is highly controversial in the community and has a totally different focus, IMO. Anyway, if you want to challenge the closing/decision of Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Images from toto1024.tistory.com, you might request undeletion of one example image at COM:UNDEL. (Alternatively I could offer you to undelete one of the now speedy-deleted images and put it in a regular DR.) --Túrelio (talk) 21:14, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Túrelio: The more I delve into this Tistory issue, the more complicated it gets... a user in one discussion claims that the CC license is automatically added to posts, while Revi says it's a two-click process. I'll have to bring this up with Revi because this isn't an issue that's isolated to Tistory. Anyway, thank you for the link to the undeletion requests venue, I'd rather take my concerns there. In the meantime, may as well point out that you missed File:Lee Jung-shin - Gaon Chart K-pop Awards.jpg. — ξxplicit 00:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
File:Shaun Wallace.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Uploads by Winfried Povel

Dear Explicit, I didn't get a message on the 6th of February 2016 that you suggested to delete all my pictures. Just today I got the message that they were deleted. I'm really surprised about this, and about your comments. I don't know how to answer on your article, because the discussion there is closed, so I hope I can do it this way. I will copy your text and write my answers in it.

This deletion debate is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive. You can read the deletion policy or ask a question at the Village pump. If the circumstances surrounding this file have changed in a notable manner, you may re-nominate this file or ask for it to be undeleted.

Uploads by Winfried Povel[edit]

I don't believe Winfried Povel (talk · contribs) holds the rights to the images he has uploaded. The EXIF data for these images are also very telling, as an array of cameras are documented.

File:Hoorspelregisseur Léon Povel - 2008.JPG - Taken November 9, 2008, with a Canon PowerShot A710 IS. Likely lifted from espunt.com. This is not right. espunt.com took this picture from Wikipedia. It was taken by my cousin on a family reunion. He gave me permission to use it, because it's my father.

File:KRO-omroeper Léon Povel - ca 1938.jpg - No camera information. Likely lifted from espunt.com. This is not right. espunt.com took this picture from Wikipedia. But indeed I didn't take it. It's one of the pictures I've inherited from my father. It was probably made by the KRO-radio, where he worked. I didn't know I could not use that after 75 years.

File:Sprong in 't heelal zomer 1956.jpg - Taken May 23, 2009, with FUJIFILM, which makes no sense because this image is from 1956. Note 'Exif Viewer Ver.1.1'. Indeed I didn't take this one too. It's one of the pictures I've inherited from my father. It was probably made by the KRO-radio, where he worked.

Then there are uploads he describes as cover art. File:Toi van hat LIVE Cover.jpg - Description read: "Cover of the Live Show DVD of Vietnamese Singer Nhat Son". This was previously nominated for speedy deletion, but the uploader removed the tag and claimed on the file talk page that, "I am the owner of those pictures. I am the designer of the album cover. I am the producer of the whole album." If he is the photographer and designer, this would require procedures at COM:CONSENT to be followed. The picture on this cover was made by a friend of mine in Vietnam. He gave me permission to use it for all kinds of promotional activities. Then I have designed the full cover and I am the owner of the album. I really thought I filled in everything that is needed for publishing on Wikipedia.

File:Vet tinh Bia Front.jpg - Cover art. In Vietnam you don't pay a photographer just for making a picture, he gives you the full rights to use it anywhere for promotional activities. I have designed the full cover and I am the owner of the album. I really thought I filled in everything that is needed for publishing on Wikipedia.

File:Toi van hat Bia Front.jpg - Cover art. Actually the same.

File:Nhat Son 3 - Nho vo cung cover.jpg - Cover art. Taken on September 23, 2013, with a SONY DSC-T30. This picture I took myself with my Sony camera in Vietnam in 2006. After Nhat Son was killed in september 2013 I used my own picture and designed the cover for this unfinished album.

Other pictures. File:Donald de Marcas (17-03-2013).JPG - Taken March 17, 2013, with a NIKON D90. This picture was taken by a good friend of mine in my house. He gave me permission to use it. How can we otherwise get pictures of persons on Wikipedia? He doesn't know how to do that himself.

File:Winfried Povel.jpg - Taken on August 1, 2011, with a Samsung Galaxy S II. This appears to be the uploader himself, but it appears to be snapped for him by someone else. Yes this picture was taken by my sister with my Samsung in our garden. Of course she made it for me to publish. If I can't say I am the owner, then how can I ever put such a kind of picture on Wikipedia? I really don't see what's the problem in this.

Note that an entry of the uploader exists on the Dutch Wikipedia: nl:Winfried Povel. Born in 1951, the uploads of photos the photos taken from the mid-1930s to 1950s really doesn't add up. This brings into question the authenticity of the claims for the rest. — ξxplicit 07:41, 6 February 2016 (UTC) I am so sad that you have doubts about my integrity, and I am so tired of fighting again. You are right in the 30s and 50s pictures of course. Maybe I should ask the KRO-radio to approve, but I don't know if they have time for those kind of things. And is it not free after 70 years to publish something like that? Please help me out; I'm not good in all those kind of things. I hope to hear from you.

Deleted: per nomination, all require confirmation of authorship and license via COM:OTRS. --Storkk (talk) 11:54, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Use of no source

Hi Explicit, you tagged File:Collage34.jpg with No source since. That's weird, because the file clearly indicates a source. Can you explain why you tagged this file? Multichill (talk) 16:26, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Multichill: I tagged it with Dw no source since because it is a derivative work containing two separate photos. As it reads: This file is a derivative work incorporating another work or works. While the source of this file has been identified, the source(s) of the incorporated work(s) is/are missing essential source information. The author and source of the incorporated work must be given, so that others can verify the copyright status. The photo of the couple is likely the uploader's work, but where does the image of the rose on a beach come from? Although uploaded at a later date, it's available as a wallpaper here at a much larger resolution. It is unclear where this specific image originates from, who the copyright holder is, and if it's released under a free license. — ξxplicit 11:52, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's abuse/misuse of the no source template, please use the regular deletion process in the future. The semi-speedy deletion process is only for obvious cases, everything else needs to go through the regular process. Multichill (talk) 22:24, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: Abuse? Quite the personal attack for an action made in good faith. — ξxplicit 01:31, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

request to undelete File:CSDB_logo.gif

Hi! I received a notification saying that you left me a message. Following the link opened my Talk page informing me that a file, which I uploaded (File:CSDB_logo.gif), has been deleted. In the deletion log, it is said: "global usage". I don't understand what it means, neither hundred of pages of Wikipedia help provides this information. I am the author who created this image and I uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons under creative commons license. The page "Global usage for "File:CSDB logo.gif"" does not list anything. The image (logo) is used on the website of my project (http://csdb.glycoscience.ru) described by the Wikipedia article under review (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Carbohydrate_Structure_Database). The project is NOT an organization, and media used on its webpage does not belong to anybody. All these media were created by myself. By uploading to Wikimedia Commons I transfered my copyright (which might or might not exist) to Wikimedia Commons. Could you please tell what I have to do to use this image in my Wikipedia aricle and what should I do to undelete it? I wrote more or less the same in a field, which opened after I pressed 'request undeletion'. Sorry for my silly questions, but I really feel I have to ask rather than read manuals, because Wikipedia help links only transfer me from page to page without giving the answer. Thank you. Question

In this DR you mention that the subject image was used only in a Portuguese Wikipedia article which was deleted in 2014. So currently, this image would not show any links in the "File usage on other wikis" section. In such a case, how do you figure out that it was in use in 2014?
If you say you have a super memory; I am not gonna take that seriously. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Dharmadhyaksha: Of course I don't have super memory! That would be ridiculous. I simply travel back in time to when the article existed to verify my claim!
But really, I just cross-check the user's contributions here and the project of whatever language the description is written in. It's more of an assumption with a high-accuracy ratio, really... — ξxplicit 04:12, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see... and that's too much of work. I though there is some tool somewhere which I am not aware of. Btw, you are an admin on en wiki and have got a good knack of what should and what should not be on Commons. Have you considered being an admin here? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:17, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If the Global User Contributions tool showed edits which were made at other WikiProjects that are now deleted, that would be quite useful, but I can only dream. My level of activity, on both projects, has been rather flimsy lately because of work, so I don't think I could adequately keep on top of an RFA given the circumstances. — ξxplicit 04:31, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes... maybe global sysops can still do it. Anyways... I will be happy to nominate you or support your RfA if you change your mind anytime later. Enjoy! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:39, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Dear license reviewer

If you use the helper scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Explicit, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. You can also add User license reviewer to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 18:54, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Per the comments I left on your talk page at English Wikipedia, I've removed the tag you put on this file.

If you feel strongly, take it to DR, which I will also oppose. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 06:28, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nimaderkrasse: Please see the guideline about derivative works. Even if you took the picture, the record company still holds the copyright for the poster and releasing your photo under a free license infringes on those rights. xplicit 01:30, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing license review

Commons:License review can be kind of tedious and technical and not the most glamorous routine activity. I appreciate that you find some satisfaction in doing this because when I upload videos, it is critical for me that some volunteer double checks that I have things in order and that the content is stable to remain on Commons.

Thanks for doing license review on the videos which I uploaded to Vimeo and then imported from there to Commons. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:25, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluerasberry: I wouldn't necessarily say I find satisfaction in it, but I'm both willing and able. I have years of experience working with media files on the English Wikipedia, so it has become more of a natural thing for me. Regardless, thank you for the kind words! xplicit 02:00, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Per DR in Commons:Deletion requests/Photos from jjoggomi.tistory.com, I made an edit to the Tistory guide. I'm honestly not sure if people look at that page, but it's useful for LR newbies anyway. If you know any other example of such case, and have some spare time, please add one! (It's fine if you don't know or you don't have time or willingness. ) — regards, Revi 12:23, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In doing license reviews, I've come across a couple, like chanmin1008.tistory.com (license laundering), gasi0308.tistory.com, and debonairren.tistory.com. I was actually thinking of creating Category:Tistory.com related deletion requests for these types of deletion requests. File:DMZ 국제다큐영화제 기자회견 공승연 사진.jpg was another case of license laundering, though I tagged that as a copyright violation and don't remember the specific Tistory blog cited. These types of cases have no DR and can't be categorized, so your subpage will be more handy in these situations. xplicit 12:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm true, I forgot the DR category. I'll try to track such no-DR things, but I'm not sure if I can search from the deleted pages archive. (Well, I'm done with the page for today, will do it later!) — regards, Revi 12:56, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Updated the page with link to Tistory blog-related DR category, and for your laundry example, I just checked the deleted file description and listed the website it was coming from. If you catch such laundry, feel free to list it — regards, Revi 16:20, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:Pabllo Vittar em Brasília.jpg

Hello. You’ve just removed the LR requests from files called File:Pabllo Vittar em Brasília X.jpg. I’m aware of the DR (having closed them wrongly and then correctly), but what I need is a review of the CC-BY-SA-4.0 in the Flickr source description. I would do it myself but that defeats the object of license reviewing. The existing review (by the bot) was for a separate license several months ago, the subject of the DR. Cheers. License review

Hello. You have reviewed several images uploaded by user Heogaga, and I would like to ask a question. The source of some of these images indicates "all rights reserved" (example). So, could you justify how you consider these images as CC-BY-4.0 or other free licences? I'm fairly inclined to not only send them for deletion, but also block the uploader, since he / her uploaded several copyvios and received several warnings. I'll wait for your response, anyway. Kind regards, Érico (talk) 23:21, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As another Tistory blog reviewer what is your thoughts on this blog: http://hdpics.tistory.com/267

There is a CCL icon indicating CC-BY 4.0 but at the bottom there is "CopyRight © 2015-2016, HDPICS All Right Reserved". Is this another, they didn't understand what they are doing situation? Bonobono tistory blog

Hi Explicit. I was wondering if I could get another tistory consult. This time for the bonobono blog. The guestbook has a recent line by the blog owner that says "사진을 상업적 용도로 사용하시는게 아니면 사용하셔도 됩니다" which translates to "Do not use the photo for commercial purposes." Because the original comment is secret I don't know if that only applies to a singular image, a singular blog post, or the entire blog. From what I can tell most of the blog posts are under the CC-BY 4.0 license (if you go by the CCL icon) but that blog post has me really concerned now. There are almost 800 images from this blog on Commons so for this one, like the last one, I would really appreciate a second opinion from someone I know knows what they are doing. Thought? Is that enough to DR all the images we have from there? --Majora (talk) 05:10, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Majora: It translates as "If the picture is not used commercially, you can use it." A few years ago, a similar situation occurred and all the photos from a blog were deleted, see Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Images from toto1024.tistory.com. Personally, I don't agree with this approach. In addition to Creative Commons licenses being irrevocable, Creative Commons also states, Central to our licenses is the grant of a standard set of permissions in advance, without requiring users to ask for permission or seek clarification before using the work. Prior to the photographer's comment, there was no indication of any restriction on commercial use. In my opinion, photos uploaded to the blog prior to June 13, 2018, are fine, but all posts after that date are not. Others would disagree and would opine all uploads from this blog should be deleted. Ultimately, I think that's an approach that should be made individually. xplicit 01:42, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Explicit: I uploaded some images from the blog june 15, but I wasn't aware of this situation (I didn't have bad faith), since there is no general notice on the blog, and the source page still have cc-by icon (unlike flickr and youtube). Puramyun31 (talk) 02:03, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Puramyun31: It's probably best to mark those files for deletion using G7, as those definitely wouldn't survive a deletion request. xplicit 02:15, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Explicit. I think I'll go with that way forward. No need to remove the entire blog (I'm aware that CC isn't revocable) but from now on we really don't know. As for uploads after June 13, I'm not actually seeing any. There have only been two posts since that date on that blog and the images don't seem to be on Commons. I'm also not seeing any in your uploads, Puramyun31. Perhaps you are thinking of a different blog? In any case, it looks like we are good to go here. I'll keep an eye out for any additional uploads from this blog and act accordingly. Thanks again. --Majora (talk) 02:26, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ooops, the files was posted on the blog at may 26 2018. so the declaration on the guestbook (june 13 2018) doesn't apply to this files (since cc-by license is irrevocable). Puramyun31 (talk) 02:50, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template use within LicenseReview template

Let me first thank you very much for reviewing lots of the licenses for the waarneming.nl and observation.org -images uploaded by BartBotje. However, I noticed there was a little problem in the resulting html when the Waarneming.nl template is used as the site-parameter to the LicenseReview template instead of an url .. For example : [1]

I changed the rest to versions simply stating the url to the image. Maybe this is a template issue ?. Can you please prevent this in the future ?. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work ! Bj.schoenmakers (talk) 23:11, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bj.schoenmakers: Hi, thanks for catching that. It likely is an issue which arises from the template specifically, as I have not had this problem with other templates (MushroomObserver as seen on File:Kuehneromyces mutabilis (Schaeff.) Singer & A.H. Sm 322130.jpg, for example). I 'll keep an eye out for this in the future. xplicit 04:14, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Explicit: Hello. VOICE FACTORY has just sent a declaration of consent to use copyright-protected media (images) to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. It was written in Japanese. Please verify the email. We are preparing English one, which can be ready by tomorrow. Do you think it better to send English version, too?Piano coffee (talk) 12:08, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Piano coffee: Okay, you are free to remove the deletion tag and as OTRS pending instead. It's generally best to not send multiple emails, as it will only slow the process down. Hi Explicit, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

File:Les 7 doigts logo.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Dear Explicit,

I just notice that Puramyun Uploaded a lot of new images today. Just for your info. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:24, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

5 images

Dear Explicit,

Please feel free to review (pass or fail) these 4 images. I don't know these uploaders and the fourth and fifth image may be a derivative image.

Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:16, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Leoboudv: ✓ Done for the first three. The last two are, uhh, interesting, to say the least. My research suggests ヨメミ V-AR チューバー -萌実- (Moemi & Yomemi Channel) is a pair of virtual YouTubers and this channel appears to be legit, so they can release their content under Creative Commons. However, the license probably only covers the characters Moemi and Yomemi and does not extend to others like Mirai Akari and Tukino Mito, who have their own channels with videos using the Standard YouTube License. I can't begin to guess if all these channels are all run by the same person/team, but there isn't any evidence suggesting so.
Side note, thank you for reviewing File:Jang Dong-woo and Hoya at fansign in Hapjeong.jpg. I can't believe that sat to be reviewed for over a year! xplicit 12:08, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Explicit,

Please check if this Tistory image is free or not. I only mark Tistory images uploaded by you--I marked 9 of yours today--since some Tistory accounts may have NC or ND language restrictions that are written in Chinese or Korean which I cannot read. That's why I don't normally mark Tistory images. In this case, there is camera metadata. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:19, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Leoboudv: ✓ Done. Perhaps I should make a list of Tistory blogs known to be acceptable to help other reviewers... xplicit 01:19, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 • Thank You. I generally don't like Tistory since someone can critricise me for marking an image with an NC or ND restriction in a foreign language. I have enough things to worry about. Even Puramyun's uploads get DR'ed sometimes, I see. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:02, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question on image licensing

Hi Explicit, I am trying to find good photos for Kim Se-hwang and know that you upload a lot. Are any of these photos here acceptable, they seem to have the Attribution symbol at the bottom? [3] and [4]. The photos are elsewhere on Google, also. Thanks, if you have time to look into this. And if they are OK, please feel free to upload....you are 10 times better than me! By the way, the band N.EX.T also has no photo, if you run into any for that page. Thanks!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 07:34, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bonnielou2013: Hi, despite the licensing on the posts, those blogs appear to pull photos from all over the net, so I wouldn't upload them here. Freely licensed photos for older South Korean acts like these are pretty difficult to find... xplicit 12:12, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for looking at them, that's why I haven't uploaded from Tistory so far. Also, missed you at this year's Korean WikiConference this year. Hope we meet someday!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 12:47, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

question

Hey Explicit,

What do you think of this DR? IMO, it was unnecessary, as it's a blatant copyright violation. -- 1989 (talk) 03:05, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@1989: I don't necessarily think it was blatant, as it was uploaded by the verified channel of Cartoon Network France. At the very least, it is unclear if the French division has the authority to release videos featuring copyrighted characters by the U.S. division under Creative Commons licenses. All the files passed the license review hurdle, so it is not entirely obvious to others. This is best to be determined by the community with the DR, especially if it happens that no precedent to delete such files as outright copyright violations exists. xplicit 02:52, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and its subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Question on public photograpy in South Korea

Hi again Explicit, I have added this file, File:Burning Sun protest9.jpg, and am comfortable that the protester is covered up and not recognizable. However, I did not get consent from the protestor, nor MBC's cameraman. Are the laws so strict that I would need their permission, do you think? Or is this photo legally within guidelines? Thanks, as always.--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 00:34, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The current legislature requires consent if they are identifiable, strictly applied to Press as well. See also my draft at Commons:Country specific consent requirements. (Commented out in Japan section)

South Korea:

 • Taking a picture of a person in a public space: Requires consent (see exceptions below)
 • Publishing pictures of a person in a public space: Requires consent (as per above)
 • Commercial use of a published picture of a person in a public space: Requires consent (as per above)

Like Japan, there is no formal legal definition of "right of publicity", "right of portrait", or other related rights. However, there are several case regarding the "Right of publicity" citing the "privacy" clause and "human dignity and value" of the Constitution[1].

 1. Court has ruled that "Even if published, using portraits on commercial books without permission is violating right of publicity".[2]

Hi and Thanks Revi, So I should delete the photo? Yes or no?--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 01:45, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Depends. The point is if the subject is identifiable it should require consent. If not, generally no. I find the photo quite hard to identify but it might differ. — regards, Revi 01:48, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Revi, aside from the person, I was concerned with photographing the MBC camera (and TV trucks, other equipment, etc.). Those are OK, then? Thanks for your help.--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 02:09, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bonnielou2013: I find myself in agreement with revi. I don't see any possibility of the protestor being identified, so it doesn't seem like it violates Korean law. All the other things you've listed serve utilitarian function and can not possibly be copyrighted. The MCB News logo falls below the threshold of originality and its inclusion is fine, and would likely be de minimis even if it were a complex logo because the main subject is the protestor, not the logo. xplicit 07:16, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:포체티노 단독 인터뷰 2편!! Your uploads contain videos like me (example:File:(MYNAME(마이네임)) 인생극장 51화 (볼링 대결).webm), so I think if the videos are not restored (I asked undeletion requests of the files), the Srittau's reasoning can also damage your some uploads. Puramyun31 (talk) 16:38, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, since a DR of the files, the user Túrelio said "which has already been stripped of its sound-track, is useless", That seems nonsense, there is no requirement that uploaded video on Commons must include sound, and Commons doesn't necessarily require files on Commons must be used in Wikimedia projects. (If Files uploaded on Commons are must be used in Wikimedia projects then there is no motive to maintain free-license requirements on Commons, because free license files can also be used outside of Wikimedia projects.) previous DRs of the files no one argued the reason, similar situation the DRs occured as per above. Puramyun31 (talk) 12:37, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

p.s.: The user (who opened the DR, seems the depicted person of the videos, blocked because of legal threat) added apparently hostile comment which contains offensive words at my talk page.(you must be "crazy"...) Puramyun31 (talk) 12:40, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is now linking to this deleted page (with the correct Category in small print) [6] Perhaps I should have left the first Redirect and only deleted the others. I don't have much experience with this. Can you please fix it? (it is the one on the left of the page, not the one I added in External Links at the bottom).

There has been a hold up about the suggestion to rename categories at Category talk:2019–20 COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory (which is including the main category and all others), and some Categories have been renamed during the confusion, while others and subcategories have not.

This has also resulted in, at a minimum, another South Korean editor placing four images in one of the intermim suggested namings that was quickly Redirected during the discussion activity.

I will be happy just to correct this problem that I caused from the WP article link to Commons. Thank you!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 12:22, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bonnielou2013: ✓ Done, the link should be fixed now. You can click the "Wikidata item" link found on the Wikipedia article's sidebar and make changes to the item should the category be renamed again. ƏXPLICIT 00:17, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! but next time?....I have rocks for brains and Wikidata, Redirects and all that just gives me sweaty palms! You're the best!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 01:12, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hide original file from file history after editing

Hello, I wanted to request hiding from the file history an older revision of a picture. The revision in question contains information that could potentially be used to identify me.

@TatraTram: ✓ Done, I have hidden the original upload. Apologies for the late response, I've been quite busy at work lately. ƏXPLICIT 02:57, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Belated congratulations

Having been absent for a while, I just noticed you've joined the janitorial team... fantastic news! :-) Storkk (talk) 09:20, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Storkk: Thanks! It was only three months ago... plus another twelve months. ƏXPLICIT 00:38, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, very belated... though late 2018 is indeed when I started getting extremely busy, so anything that happened subsequently qualifies as "news" to me. Storkk (talk) 05:32, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this file is from Facebook, see EXIF. License and summary is not suitable. --Regasterios (talk) 13:21, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Regasterios: Ah, I see. I was under the impression that the file was nominated based on the underlying work, as the other uploads from this user were. Sorry about that. ƏXPLICIT 00:10, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I have a question!

Hello , how are you? I am happy to have become warmer ! By the way , I have a question. Why you deleted my uploaded photos? I don’t think the meeting about these photos was not over yet when you did. I don’t know we’ll about the copyrights of photos in the Internet, but I confirmed the site where these photos have been uploaded said we can use these photos in the Internet, so I think we can use them on Wikipedia! What do you think about it? (Sorry for my bad English.) TRAMPJP (talk) 02:07, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TRAMPJP: Hi, deletion requests can be closed by an administrator after seven days. I closed the deletion request for your uploads after nine days. As for the photos, please see the licensing policy page (the Japanese version is available here). The images you uploaded are taken from a copyrighted film, but Commons does not accept fully copyrighted content. Only files with a free license, like those released under a Creative Commons license or into the public domain, are allowed. The person or company who owns the copyright to the photos can change the license, so being available on narnia.fandom.com is not enough. I hope this helped. ƏXPLICIT 11:56, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening! Sorry for the late reply. I read your comment and finally I understood the rule of copyrights. Thank you!!—TRAMPJP (talk) 08:05, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User:Superpamcakes

Hi Explicit. Since you're also a Common's admin, I wondering if you could take a look at this user's uploads. They seem to uploading vector version of non-free files found on Wikipedia. My guess is that they probably mean well and are just trying to use the files on articles without having to worry about en:WP:NFCC. Only two files have been uploaded so far and if they're OK, then that's fine; however, if they're not, then perhaps it would be best for to give them a friendly heads-up to stop doing this kind of thing before they do it too many times and end up getting blocked. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:33, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: I've deleted File:Andyasymbol.svg as a copyright violation, as this is the symbol of a political organization in Nepal. I'm not so sure about the copyright status of File:Flag of Kugelmugel.svg, which it is currently lacking. I'm not seeing any license templates that would cover flags of Austria, and doesn't seem likely to be old enough to fall under the public domain. ƏXPLICIT 03:49, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:50, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Water taxi

I see you effectively merged from Category:Elliott Bay Water Taxi to Category:King County Water Taxi, but isn't the former more specific than the latter? Wouldn't the latter also include the Vashon Island run (and maybe some others I'm not aware of)? - Jmabel ! talk 14:34, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: Hmm, so Category:Elliott Bay Water Taxi and its contents should have been moved to Category:West Seattle Water Taxi, while Category:King County Water Taxi was to be created separately? ƏXPLICIT 00:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: Category:Elliott Bay Water Taxi now points to the correctly renamed Category:West Seattle Water Taxi. Would you mind handling Category:King County Water Taxi? ƏXPLICIT 04:11, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ayuda!

Hola Explicit. Espero tu valiosa ayuda y pronta respuesta. --Martin.rr (talk) 05:11, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Explicit. Could you take a look at this file? The uploader is trying to use it to “show” why a Wikipedia article should be kept at en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Takahiro Yoshikaw. A screenshot of search results is not really needed for that purpose, but my main concern is whether this would be a case of COM:FAIR. — Marchjuly (talk) 16:03, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: I have deleted the file as a non-free screenshot, as the underlying text is copyrighted. ƏXPLICIT 00:21, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Explicit,

I'd uploaded

Hi Explicit. Would you mind checking this and File:The Secret History of the Moon thumbnail.jpg? After I tagged them with npd, the uploader added a link to a bandcamp page which indicates a “CC BY 3.0” license. You’ve got to scroll down a bit to find it, but it comes right after the image gallery where it says “Some rights reserved”. I’m assuming that’s sufficient for these two images, and if it is then I guess the npd tags can be removed. If not, then maybe you could explain what else is needed to the uploader.

Perhaps you wouldn’t also mind taking a look at Commons:Deletion requests/File:The Arrow of Time.jpg and en:Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2020 July 26#File:The Arrow of Time artwork.jpg since it’s the same uploader and the same copyright holder. — Marchjuly (talk) 15:20, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: Hi, as far as I can tell, and as much as this article suggests, the copyright notice on Bandcamp pages only applies to the tracks. There is no mention of said license extending to the cover art. Admittedly, the article is from 2009 and things may have changed since then, but I cannot find evidence to support that. The two files tagged for missing permission are probably best discussed at COM:DR. ƏXPLICIT 23:43, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking a look at this. I advised the uploader of this discussion and perhaps they will clarify things further. — Marchjuly (talk) 00:33, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for some further input about this at COM:VPC#Bandcamp licensing and the only response I got so far seem to agree with you that this is more complicated than it seems and that furhter discussion is needed. However, the uploader seems quite certain that the licenses cover everything and even seems a bit frustrated that the licensing is even being questioned. FWIW, my point is not to try and make anyone's life difficult; it's just to try and make sure the file's are licensed correctly. I hoping the uploader will ask the copyright holder to email OTRS about this, but I'm not sure if they are going to do that. I was thinking of waiting to remove the npd tags I added until they could be removed by an admin, but perhaps it's better to do so now and start a discussion at DR instead? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:39, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: The uploader is presuming that the artwork to the accompanying tracks was created by the same person who created the track, and that's generally not the case in music. Aside from the uploader, every other user has raised their doubts in regards to the CC license extending far enough to cover the cover art as well. A DR discussion is justified here, even if the uploader has expressed frustration over it; there is no need for the No permission since tag to be declined by another admin to move forward. ƏXPLICIT 08:34, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Understand. See Commons:Deletion requests/Secret History of the Moon files for reference. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:07, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
