If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Districts

Hi. I notice you created a "Category:Warehouse District" for a neighbohood of Cleveland, Ohio. Might I suggest moving it to something like "Warehouse District, Cleveland"? I know New Orleans also has a section called the "Warehouse District", and I wouldn't be surprised if there were others as well, so a more specific title might avoid possible confusion in the long run. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 03:57, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

That probably would be a good idea. Please feel free to move it if you like. The w:Warehouse District article is a pseudo-disambiguation page. Perhaps we should create something like that here. - EurekaLott 04:17, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I moved it. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 22:13, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Lorain-Carnegie Bridge photo

Thanks for letting me know that you posted a message on one of the HABS/HAER photos I uploaded recently. I noticed that there was already a version of the photo, but as you indicate, I brightened it up a bit and did some color enhancement. However, I'm afraid that I don't know how to replace a photo here. Can you give me some guidance? --Sanfranman59 05:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the tip. I'm relatively new to Commons and am still on the learning curve. I'll upload my photo so that it replaces yours and then propose for deletion the one I uploaded a couple of weeks ago. Sorry for any confusion. --Sanfranman59 18:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I posted a Discussion/Talk comments to which noone (administrator) has responded.

  • An Ohio canalmap is needed for several Ohio canal-related articles,
  • and this posted one seems to have the closest to the public-domain license Wiki is looking for?

"Bone Yard" in Cleveland

Thanks for providing an actual name for the building, and a better street address: I was simply guessing and going by the address that I got from Google's Street View. Nyttend (talk) 21:03, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

More Cleveland

  • St. Maron's: I copy/pasted the description from the picture of Zion Lutheran; that's why the Lutheran category was there, as I definitely know that Maronites aren't Lutheran :-)
  • The Cleveland list of NRHP sites shows that the official name for the Baker building is "Baker Motor Vehicle Company Building". I had an impression from the article that this was the factory: was it located next door or something?

Thanks for your help! Nyttend (talk) 00:09, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying what you meant with the old Baker property; I had thought you believed that the official NRHP name was "Baker Electric Building". Now that I understand my error, I've put it back to how you had it. As being listed on the NRHP is a major part of the building's significance, it's important to have the NRHP designation included, but it's easy to do that by noting it elsewhere in the description. Nyttend (talk) 23:36, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

J. Milton Dyer

Ok, I'll bite ... [1] ... who is w:J. Milton Dyer ??? I am guessing he designed that library?? Funded it? Maybe you should enhance the category page Category:J. Milton Dyer to give a little info? That's typically what I do. Cheers. ++Lar: t/c 18:44, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Dyer was its architect. I usually add a brief description when creating categories, but for some reason I neglected to do so this time. I corrected the oversight. Obviously, he doesn't yet have a Wikipedia entry, but you can read a little about him in the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History. The Cleveland Landmarks Commission has an extensive list of his commissions. - EurekaLott (talk) 19:03, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

I just saw you tagged the image above for deletion and I reverted you. Though this is a logo and copyrighted it does not meet the threshold of originality because it consists of simple letters, shape and colorization. Therefore it's allowed on Commons even with some restrictions. For further information see Image_casebook Trademarks. Mizunoryu (talk) 02:51, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Cleveland neighborhoods

Hi there. I happened to notice your revert. I think it's odd that all the subcategories of Category:Cleveland, Ohio omit the "Ohio" when the parent category uses it. That doesn't make much sense and I think it's different from Commons practice. Leaving that aside, the main purpose of my edit was to eliminate the "of" convention and standardize all neighborhood categories as "Neighborhoods in X." It's not clear to me from your edit what your view was on that, or whether you even realized that had changed as well. Best, Mackensen (talk) 04:52, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. It's not unusual for Commons categories for U.S. cities to include the state name but omit it in their subcategories. Off the top of my head, the categories for San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Philadelphia are similar examples. I don't have a strong opinion on the in/of naming convention. It's best to be consistent when possible, but both forms are common in Category:Neighborhoods by city, even after your renames. - Eureka Lott 05:20, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough, it just seems inconsistent. I don't have a strong view on in vs of either, except that it really ought to be consistent (and I thought I'd deal with the US first). I'll propose a rename along those lines. Thanks, Mackensen (talk) 14:07, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Construction date of Oxford Female Institute (Fisher Hall)

Hi ... I see you reverted my edit of the construction date for Oxford Female Institute (Fisher Hall). I was led to the 1856 construction date by this from the Ohio Historic Places Dictionary, Vol. 2: "The Institute was established ... in 1849 ... In 1854, a faction founded Oxford Female College and built Fisher Hall". I then found this on the MU library website: "Fisher Hall, located north and east of the Miami Main Campus, was dedicated on September 3, 1856 with much pomp as the Oxford Female College". I'm not sure which is correct, but I'll leave it alone. I just didn't want you to think that I'm willy-nilly going around and changing construction year categories. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 19:57, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

To add to the confusion, there were two similarly-named institutions and buildings in Oxford: Oxford Female College/Fisher Hall and Oxford Female Institute (If you include Western College for Women, there were three women's colleges in Oxford.) The former was demolished and the latter is still standing. The edit that I reverted was for an image of the Oxford Female Institute. - Eureka Lott 23:07, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm aware of that. I actually graduated from Western in 1981 after it was absorbed by Miami U. I see now that the building in the photo for which you reverted my edit isn't Fisher Hall. I thought it was when I first looked at it. Thanks for setting me straight. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 19:27, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

You removed the North Coast Harbor category. The photo was taken at North Coast Harbor. Please explain. Levdr1lp / talk 18:09, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

While the photo may have been taken at North Coast Harbor, it's not a picture of the area. There's nothing distinctive about the background - it could have been taken almost anywhere. Including the image in the category would be a disservice to visitors looking for images of North Coast Harbor. - Eureka Lott 20:35, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Resolution

I think that you know ways of raising the resolution of an image, could you please teach them to me, or else help me with some pictures?

Yours sincerely,

--The Theosophist (talk) 03:00, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I'm assuming that you're referring to File:Cattle Piece, 1843, by Thomas Peploe Wood.jpg. In this instance, all I did was to transfer the file that was originally uploaded at en.wikipedia. The image you transferred was a reduced version of the same file. I'm no expert, but I'm not aware of a way to increase the scale of raster images without losing quality. If you need help improving the quality of images in other ways, the folks at en:Wikipedia:Graphics Lab may be able to assist you. - Eureka Lott 16:31, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks anyway. On a side note, I think that the reason I uploaded it on a reduced analysis, was because that was how it was originally uploaded at enwiki and I could find it in a higher quality nowhere in the web.--The Theosophist (talk) 12:48, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for helping out with the categories on these. I've started on adding them to city cats with cat-a-lot, hoping to do this before adding specific cats by hand so as to avoid overcatting. It's a little trickier than expected, since, as you may have noticed, the metadata is sometimes incorrect... if you notice cases like that one, maybe you could change the city in the description, too, since that's the part I'm matching against for rounding up by city? In any case, I appreciate the help, particularly in the eastern part of the country where my familiarity is minimal. :-) --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 23:52, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi EurekaLott, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Cleveland History Center

Regarding this edit — I was surprised that you transferred some of the categories, but not all, to Category:Cleveland History Center. It leaves me wondering, however, if the museum is just the house, or if it's more. Would it be wrong to move the house-related categories to Category:Cleveland History Center? Nyttend (talk) 13:53, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Yes, the house is only one part of the facility. See the Historical Society's site for more information about the museum and research complex. - Eureka Lott 15:54, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

COM:OVERCAT

Stop putting File:Grand Pacific Hotel in Olmsted Falls.jpg into an obvious ancestor category of one of its current categories. The COM:OVERCAT policy is clear: always place an image in the most specific categories, and not in the levels above those. Exceptions exist (search that page for "Angela"), but this isn't any of those. If you persist, page protection will be sought to enforce this policy. Nyttend (talk) 05:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I disagree with your strict interpretation of the categorization policy, because that logic inevitably leads to ridiculous conclusions. If we were to follow your opinion, Category:John Lennon should be removed from Category:Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, because Category:The Beatles is also a member of that category, despite the fact that he was inducted as a solo artist, as well.
Also, please don't make threats when you're involved in a good-faith content dispute. It's a poor way to win people over. - Eureka Lott 20:11, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks...

...for catching the OH postcards that accidentally got swept into the PA category with that cat-a-lot action. I'll try to refine the selection a little better if I do that for any other states. --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 05:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Replace hardcoding with template

Your latest comment helps me understand your meaning a lot better. At the moment, there's no way to override the default sorting, so I'd suggest that you revert the bot with some of these categories and return to the older setup with written-out category code and assigned sorts. If you look at these templates, you'll see that there are no variables (is that the right term?) or any other optional parameters: the only changeable stuff is the result of a mandatory parameter, and things break if you don't include something for each parameter. That's the limit of my coding ability. If you're familiar with implementing optional parameters (e.g. "altsort1=text" causes it to sort as "text" in one category, and omitting "altsort1=" merely allows it to sort normally), please go ahead and add them, and add tweaks for Georgia and Washington while you're at it, if you know how. Thanks!

Totally unrelated — would you be able to upload representative images from ten locations across the county? Most Cuyahoga County jurisdictions have good images in their en:wp articles, but we're missing good images for ten of them: Brooklyn Heights, Brook Park, Cuyahoga Heights, Glenwillow, Hunting Valley, Linndale, Newburgh Heights, North Royalton, Walton Hills, and the unincorporated sections of Chagrin Falls Township. If you can take some pictures in these places, it will be quite helpful. I've helped somewhat (while in the area today, I got photos for Orange, Woodmere, and Maple Heights), but I don't have many opportunities to visit the northeastern part of the state. Nyttend (talk) 04:45, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

@Nyttend: I tried making a version of the template with an optional sortkey. If I got it right, there's a sortkey with a default value that can be overridden by adding sort=replacement sortkey when calling the template.
I can't make any promises about getting photos for those Cuyahoga County communities, but if I have the opportunity to snap a picture, I'll be sure to snag one. - Eureka Lott 03:54, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
That works. I created Category:Test1 with the code of {{User:EurekaLott/TemplateTest|Big|Little}} and viewed the resulting Category:Buildings in Big County, Little; it told me that there was one child category, under "H". I then added a sort, making it {{User:EurekaLott/TemplateTest|Big|Little|sort=Test}}, and Buildings in Big County, Little has a subcategory under "T". Nyttend (talk) 04:23, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
@Nyttend: Thanks for confirming that. I guess the next step is to update the templates. I see {{USCountyBuildingMat}}, {{USCountyHouse}}, {{USCountyHouseMat}}, {{USCountyChurch}}, and {{USCountyChurchMat}}. Is that all of them? - Eureka Lott 02:58, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

It's all good. Thanks for helping to get the category into shape! - Eureka Lott 01:34, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Halle Building

When trying to decide on a category name for the Halle Building in Cleveland, I noticed that a lot of German-loaded images use the name "Halle" as well. English translations often end up something like "The Kunst Halle building was erected in 1810." So I used the "Halle Building (Cleveland, Ohio)" category name instead, because it made searches for the Cleveland structure easier. - Tim1965 (talk) 20:40, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

That's interesting, thanks. I did some Google searches, and couldn't find anything else simply known as the Halle Building. I did notice a homebuilder named the Halle Building Group, but that's not a likely source of confusion. What do you think we should do? - Eureka Lott 20:58, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
This would be because it was two buildings, both built as The Halle Brothers Department Store. Subsequently, it was renamed after it was taken over by Forest City. The Halle's did not build them for any other use than for stores, therefore they wouldn't have needed another name. My Source is the late Kay Halle, a family friend, and granddaughter of the founders. Sjkoblentz (talk) 01:34, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Why remove these two categories?

Why did you remove -Category:Ruby jewellery and -Category:Emerald jewellery from these 2 images located within the Category:Art of Tibet in the Cleveland Museum of Art?

[[3]] and [[4]]

Thanks, Tibet Nation (talk) 21:13, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi there. The museum describes the pendant as being "turquoise with semi-precious stones". If the stones were rubies and emeralds, they would have described it differently. - Eureka Lott 03:53, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi, EurekaLott. Thanks for all your work with the CMA files and categories. I wanted to let you know I swapped some of the duplicate files you tagged. I did that because the later files have complete info templates that are useful when doing insource: searches to aid in categorization. —Rrburke (talk) 22:48, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Got it. Thanks for the heads-up. - Eureka Lott 22:49, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
In the end it didn’t matter, because evidently it’s customary to keep the earlier file, so a lot of the ones I was trying to keep got deleted anyway. I think that if there are any more dupes in the future, I’ll just move the contents of the Artwork template over to the older file; that way it doesn’t matter which gets deleted. —Rrburke (talk) 18:14, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I kind of tripped over you there. I decided to move the contents to Category:Textiles of Egypt in the Cleveland Museum of Art because it matches the form of the higher-level cat Category:Textiles of Egypt-- but feel free to change it back. I think that at a certain point we need to standardize this kind of thing for all the CMA categories, because at the moment it's kind of a crazy quilt--mostly my fault. But maybe that's a task for another day. Cheers. --Rrburke (talk) 13:31, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, @Rrburke. I've been thinking about naming conventions, too. Here are some examples of preposition usage in category names that I've observed:
Right now, the names for the Cleveland Museum of Art categories are kind of scattershot. We use Category:Prints from England in the Cleveland Museum of Art and Category:Prints of France in the Cleveland Museum of Art for the same type of category, for instance. I'm thinking that the easiest way to avoid confusion would be to use names like Category:English prints in the Cleveland Museum of Art and Category:French prints in the Cleveland Museum of Art, except when it would create ambiguity, like using Indian for art from India. What do you think? - Eureka Lott 22:13, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
The scattershot nature of the category-naming is mostly my fault: I was matching already-existing higher-level categories, but this was only intended to be provisional, until I could settle on a more permanent solution.
Personally, I don't have any special objection to your idea, but more than once I've encountered opposition to using demonyms in category names. If I'm forced to choose, and acknowledging that any categorization scheme will have inherent flaws, I'd probably opt for the form X from Y in the Cleveland Museum of Art. Focusing on place of origin rather than nationality avoids a couple of problems, though I suppose it's possible to argue it can create its own kind of ambiguity and confusion. But whatever scheme we settle on, I think it needs to be consistently-applied across all CMA files.
Incidentally, once the bulk of the categorizing by artist and place of origin is done, I think there may be other useful ways to categorize the files as well, say by era, material, subject matter etc. I've done some of that already, here and there. What do you think? --Rrburke (talk) 13:52, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
I don't see a problem with demonyms, either. In some cases, I think they can be preferable to the alternatives. For example, Category:Himalayan art in the Cleveland Museum of Art was initially created with the unwieldy name of Category:Art of Himalaya in the Cleveland Museum of Art before I renamed it last year. Whatever the decision is, I agree that the CMA categories should be as consistent as possible. I also like your idea of using multiple categorization themes, and I think you've made some great progress so far. Nice work! - Eureka Lott 03:04, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Why are you removing various the histories of various US cities from Category:History of the United States by city? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 02:51, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi. I was just cleaning up some redundant categorization. The categories I removed from Category:History of the United States by city are members of categories in Category:History of the United States by city by state. No categories were removed from the tree. - Eureka Lott 02:56, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
Is that really redundant? One is a list of all cities and the other requires you to go by state first. I doubt there's a single city in the main by city category that isn't also in the state and then city category so the city category would be empty in the end. If you look at the more general "by city" category for all countries, I believe most if not all of them are included by nation first and then by city. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 03:04, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
I expect that more state-level categories will be created, and eventually the category will look something like Category:Buildings in the United States by city. There's no rush to get there, though. In the meantime, I don't see a good reason to violate COM:OVERCAT. - Eureka Lott 03:13, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
Wow, I had no idea adding the states and countries that automobiles and other vehicles were built in was considered overcat. --DanTD (talk) 13:37, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
The model-year categories are full of images that could be taken anywhere at any time, so it doesn't make sense to me to include them in categories where they were built. File:94 JEEP Wrangler (8235592322).jpg, for instance, shows a vehicle in Minnesota in 2012, so placing it in a subcategory of Category:Michigan in the 1990s is misleading. - Eureka Lott 13:47, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
Well yes, but we're not adding individual pictures of cars to this category. They're strictly for metacats involving manufacturers. We've got the category for cars and trucks and such made in other countries by year. Perhaps you ought to bring it up with Wikipedia:WikiProject Automobiles. ----DanTD (talk) 16:21, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Dams

Hello. Check, please, these my edits [5], [6], [7], [8]. Are these the dams? Or just falls? You are not the local but you live not far from those places, as I understend. May be you can answer this quastion or find the answer. If it is not interesting for you or you have no time for this then just forget about this quation. In any case I will find the answer, then in my own way. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 19:03, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

It all looks good to me. Thanks for getting the category started. In case you were curious, the dams were built over existing falls, and many of them have been removed to allow the river to take a more natural course. The big Gorge Dam between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls is scheduled to come down in 2023. - Eureka Lott 22:14, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
OK, I am continuing research. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 09:42, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

Cleveland Museum of Art ArtLens Open Access Duplicates Speedy Deletion

Hello. Thank you for flagging the errored files for speedy deletion. The first versions of the three uploaded files had errors in EXIF data that needed to be corrected, so the files were uploaded again. So the second versions with the later time stamps are correct. Please contact me User:Nealstimler and User:Madreiling with questions. Files [9] [10] [11]

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Why prefer the less specific category?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Goodtime_III_at_the_Ballard_Locks_(48572339917).jpg&diff=378719900&oldid=378716554: why would you prefer the category for the company that owns the ship, rather than the category for the ship itself? - Jmabel ! talk 06:26, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

There are two different ships named Goodtime III. One operates in Seattle and one in Cleveland. We don't have a category for the one in Seattle yet, so I placed it in the closest category I could find. - Eureka Lott 14:50, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Well then let's create a category! (which I'll do) - Jmabel ! talk 16:07, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Deletion of Categorys (Rosary Cathedral & Ohio Stadium)

Hi, why did you take my specific categorys on my photograph's from Rosary Cathedral & Ohio Stadium and delete+add category's? I'm curious as a new wiki user. --Lectrician2 (talk) 03:18, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi there. I think you may want to review the categorization policy at COM:CAT. The short version is that files should be placed in the most specific categories possible while avoiding redundancy. For example, the Ohio Stadium photo is in Category:Ohio Stadium. That category is a subcategory of Category:Ohio State University and Category:College football stadiums in Ohio, so the image shouldn't be in those categories, too. There's no overlap with Category:Aerial images of Columbus, Ohio, so that was an appropriate addition. - Eureka Lott 01:07, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, I was about a few hours new on wikipedia, so I didn't realize that then, but i realize it now!--Lectrician2 (talk) 13:24, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for help in Ohio and a question on a revert rather than move to a subcategorization

Hi, I've noticed you've been changing the structure of some of the city categorizations. I've been making Ohio cities consistent to Cleveland and Columbus after applying those to Marietta, Ohio. I've been working through each city by county in Ohio. If you think there is an issue with some categorization, making the correction to Marietta, Ohio and Washington County, Oho will help me base future edits on that structure and go back and correct any counties for consistency not already corrected. Working here to make an easy and reliable structure to navigate for cities in Ohio. I did have a question why the Category: Vehicles in was reverted for the police vehicles as its not possible to know all the categories. Instead of reverting I would have suggest creating an moving to a sub folder Category:Police automobiles in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio while retaining the general category of vehicle to afford photos of other vehicles in the city to be curated where images are not yet available. The model following the larger Wikicommons categorization scheme at the city level. Wolfgang8741 (talk) 14:50, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi. If you look at the photos of the Mentor-on-the-Lake police cars, you'll see that none of the photographs were actually taken in their home city. Categorizing them in Category:Vehicles in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio or Category:Police automobiles in Mentor-on-the-Lake would be inappropriate. The photos were taken in Cleveland. Category:Police automobiles in Cleveland, Ohio does exist, but needs some cleanup to distinguish between vehicles photographed in the city and those belonging to the city's police department. - Eureka Lott 16:17, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Question on File:Mark W. Barker - Interlake Steamships - Credit Matt Lance.jpg

Hi! Why did you tag File:Mark W. Barker - Interlake Steamships - Credit Matt Lance.jpg as missing permission? The photographer uploaded it themself and released it under CC. They had previously posted the image on Reddit - I saw it there and urged them to upload/release it here so it could be used on the boat's article. Was there an issue with the way they uploaded it? Ganesha811 (talk) 21:54, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for the note. I tagged the file for verification because I couldn't see a connection between Matt Lance and Yamablaster024, and thought the confirmation would be a good way to make sure it wasn't a copyright violation. Misuse of the {{own work}} tag happens far too frequently, as I'm sure you're aware. If you're convinced that Matt Lance and Yamablaster024 are the same person, please feel free to remove the {{no permission}} tag. - Eureka Lott 23:29, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
I am, and will do so. Thanks for the clarification. I wrote the en:WP article on the boat and have been trawling around for a photo to illustrate it for a while - seeing such a great one posted on Reddit, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask the photographer to upload it!
