Hello I saw that you contacted me abiut the maps I made about the airline destinations. I entirely made those by my self. The maps that were used were also found on Wikipedia commons and I just edited them and added the destinations. I do not see how there is anything related to copyright. Hopefully I would appreciate if we can resolve this issue.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yellow alligator (talk • contribs) 18:37, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your own statements are contradictory. If maps are based on existing templates, they are not your own work. You need to mention source and also follow originals' licenses requirements. Claiming exclusive copyrights is copyright violation. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:41, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The use of photos from this website, which I was a moderator and editor for a year, is carried out under the terms of the license specified by Piwigo, on which the whole forum is created. This is a GNU license and only the author of the photo is required. In addition, I would like to add that Grazyna Drzewiecka gave me permission to use all her photos if I need to. I informed her on what terms are photos published in Wikipedia Commons. Can you kindly tell me how to put a preview of the conversation with her on the Messengerze Polish language. Please do not delete my uploaded images[edit]

I have copied and pasted the images files that I have uploaded to Wikipedia Common.

I will discuss each one by one as folows:

Files uploaded by Bodvar Antonio Gregersen (talk · contribs)[edit] Historical photos and newspaper. Proper author/source and country of origin should be provided and license tags corrected.

File:El TelegrafoDelHomenajeGenMorales.pdf The above newspaper article was taken from the Internet and it was fully cited in the reference section of my article.

File:Colonel Juan Francisco Morales Llerena.jpg The above file was made from my own copy of the photo which I was bequeathed by a legal WILL and TESTIMONY of my mother.

Physical copy ownership doesn't assume copyrights ownership. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Ecuador. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:56, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not delete the following files that I have uploaded except for one (File:Gatazo.pdf.pdf) to Wikipedia Common because every photo of General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena is in the Public Domain because the photos were made in the late 1800's and early 1900's and, therefore, it is in the Public Domain in the United States because the pictures were taken before 1923 and, in Ecuador, because it has been more than 70 years since the pictures were made.

The File: El TelegrafoDelHomenajeGenMorales.pdf was taken off the Internet. The only thing the newspaper El Telegrafo requested that El Telegrafo be given full credit for the article which I have done in the reference section of General Morales Llerena's Wikipedia page.

File:LBNCCE-Alfaro-2313-PUBCOM (1).pdf - This document was published in 1897 in Quito, Ecuador. This document was stamped in blue on the front cover of the document "El Bliblioteca Nacional del Ecuador en Quito, Ecuador". This document is in the Public Domain in the United States because it was printed before 1923. It is in Public Domain in Ecuador because in Ecuador:

Copyright expires 70 years after death of copyright owner. Copyright of anonymous or pseudonymous works expires 70 years after first publication.

The document was fully documented in the Reference Section of the General Morales Llerena's Wikipedia page.

File:Gatazo.pdf.pdf - The book "La Guerra Civil de Ecuatoriana de 1895" and written by Elias Vicuna Munoz is NOT Public Domain because he died in 1997 or 70 years have not passed after the author's death for it to be within Ecuadorean Public Domain.

All the photos and jpg files of Juan Francisco Morales Llerena are legally my property under U.S.law. Besides the jpg files of Juan Francisco Morales Llerena are in the U.S. Public Domain laws and are in the Ecuadorian Public Domain because it has been over 70 years since the photos were taken in the late 1800's. These files are as follows:

File:Colonel Juan Francisco Morales Llerena.jpg File:Gen. Juan F. Morales Llerena.jpg File:General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena.jpg

The three files that follow:

File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina274.pdf File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina275.pdf File:Mensaje del Presidente about GenMoralesPagina276.pdf

were published before 1923 and are in the public domain in the United States and in Ecuador because the material in the above three files were printed in 1907. In fact, the copy of the book wherein the above three files came from states the following:

"NABU Public Domain Reprints:

You are holding a reproduction of an original work published before 1923 that is in public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other countries. You may copy and distribute this work as no entity (individual or corporate) has a copyright on the body of the work. This book may contain prior copyright references, and library stamps (as most of these works were scanned from library copies). These have been scanned and retained as part of the historical artifact."

The only file that I can ascertain that might not be in the public domain is the File:Gatazo.pdf.pdf. If it gets deleted, then I can live with it in as much as I would not like to lose it. If you have any questions about what I have written, please let me know.

You need to provide information about author/country of origin and fix license tag in every file description. It'll be good idea to make Creator template for author and use Wikidata for dates of life. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:46, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What properties does Commons need?[edit]

Greetings,

Structured Commons will need properties to make statements about files. The development team is working on making the software ready to support properties; the question is, what properties does Commons need?

You can find more information and examples to help find properties in a workshop on Commons. Please participate and help fill in the list, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

request for assistance on Lmm1245 potential file deletion[edit]

Hello,

I am new to this, so I am not fully clear what details must be provided for adding photos that I own. For the two in question, the USS Vernon County and the USS Tom Green County, I am the owner and I possess the original slides. The pictures were taken by my father while in the Marines. They are of a training mission while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Given the numbers on the side of the ships, there is no question what ships they are. Please advise what else I need to provide to avoid the files from being deleted. I believe they are some of the best pictures of these ships in the public domain, and many people will enjoy them.

Thank you, Lew Mangin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lmm1245 (talk • contribs) 17:18, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I see you may have some other questions from Spanish speakers. If I could be of any assistance in those matters or in future matters with Spanish-language users, please do not hesitate to ask. --Lmm1245 (talk) 17:22, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you father was on military duty when making this pictures, proper license tag should be {{PD-USGov-Military-Marines}}. Please also credit your father in description. However you could mention that you scanned photos. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:03, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Deletion[edit]

Greetings. I have gotten an alarming amount of alerts from Wikipedia, which isn't the most helpful things. All the files I uploaded are mine. I made them in Photoshop or made them in a music creator app that I paid for with my own money. Also, a fictional state with a questionable notability? This is directly from this link [2] , "A sandbox is a testing environment that isolates untested code changes and outright experimentation from the production environment or repository". My own user sandbox is for experimentation. I don't see why deleting files I made myself for amusement, comical emotions, etc is really necessary. I'd really like to know why the files I uploaded are being "mass-deleted". For what? I don't know, but it's not needed and unnecessary. Eugene, can you explain why you are deleting the files? I'm sorry if I didn't place the license, but what was the reason to place those deletion templates?

--PMaciasL (talk) 16:28, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What's the issue? I can't even upload my own works without having an administrator delete them? My sandbox is where those images are being used, and later in a draft. Just like any other files, apparently I can't upload any of them without them being removed. For what reason? I don't know and I'd like those questions answered since I realized upload files relating to a Micronation is a "fictional state". It isn't fictional. I dedicate almost eight full hours a day on creating art and updating another wiki, and for this to happen on Wikipedia? Back in the day when I had another account, Wikipedia admins were not like this at all. I don't know what some of these admins are doing but it either needs to stop or something needs to be fixed, as me uploading files for my own personal sandbox is not allowed I'm guessing in Wikipedia anymore. I'm sure a plethora of other people have personal sandboxes with their own things. yet, I manage to upload my own copyrighted arts with the following license below and I'm being accused of uploading files relating to a fictional state? Of course it's questionable notability. It's a sandbox. I haven't yet finished adding up all the sources, so I really don't see a reason as to "mass deleting" all the actual files I uploaded and created with my own time and money.
--PMaciasL (talk) 16:46, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Commons:Project scope. Internet offer a lot of other places to upload personal files. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 18:46, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have carefully viewed the Project scope on Commons. The files aren't really personal, but are going to be used later in an article draft. They are being used in my sandbox to make sure I don't mess things up. Then, I will move it to a draft space where the draft might be able to turn out as an article. That's whyI am asking if you could please reconsider not deleting the important files. Thank you!

Tokutotoo (talk) 13:04, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tokutotoo (talk) 13:17, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tokutotoo (talk) 22:24, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tokutotoo (talk) 22:47, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please ask help of Japanese speaking administrator. You could crop or blank packaging to keep photo. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 00:38, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tokutotoo (talk) 04:04, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tokutotoo (talk) 12:05, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads about Telmo Vergara and his works[edit]

EugeneZelenko, thanks for your revision on my recent uploads. The two images of Telmo Dias de Castro Vergara are digitalizations of the original photographs made by me. I have these photographs myself, that's because I'm the great-grandson of Telmo Vergara. And I also took photographs of the book covers, cause I have the books with me. I will add more information to the uploads, but I don't think they should be deleted. Sorry, I have few experience with commons. Can you give me instructions of how to add the necessary information?--Alexandre Fiori (talk) 15:20, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Owning physical copies doesn't mean owning of copyrights. However, some of works may be in public domain. You need to find out information about photographers, painters, etc. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Brazil. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:37, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi EugeneZelenko, I just corrected some information in the following images: "Telmo Dias de Castro Vergara 2.jpg", "Telmo Dias de Castro Vergara.jpg" and "Assinatura Telmo Vergara.svg". The other three images of the signatures were uploaded in the wrong way, so they can be eliminated (the exception is the .svg one). I'll be soon getting the name of the author of the book covers. Thanks! --Alexandre Fiori (talk) 18:23, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Files marked for deletion[edit]

Apologies if this the wrong place to do this but this communication system isn't at all intuitive.

You've marked a number of files I've uploaded for deletion. Rather than delete them can you tell me what I need to do to keep them? They are all taken from a book published in London in 1862 which I have been proofreading on Wikisource (Great Neapolitan Earthquake of 1857, Volume 2) and are for re-insertion back into the transcribed book.

The author Robert Mallett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Mallet) died in 1871 - more than 100 years ago - so the work is out of copyright.

Regards,

Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisguise (talk • contribs) 17:27, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Images are extracted from public domain book, so you need to fix license tags in images to use same one as for book. {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} didn't exist in 1862. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 02:27, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Files by Lucas Pianta marked for deletion[edit]

File:Scriptorium sao gallo.png File:Scriptorium Of Tábara.jpg Hello, EugeneZelenko. Thank you for your warnings about the licences of the images I uploaded to the Commons. I am new here and didn't know exactly how to do it. I actually have the infos about who made, where and when the image of the scriptirum of Tabara was made and thought i'd done it properly, but it seems that I was wrong. About the St. Gaal Abbey's plant image, what I did was to cut it to show where the scriptorium was located, but I see that I did it wrong when I wrote that the license was mine, I should have imagined that the proper thing to do was writing the infos about the abbey's plant, and not about who cuted the image. About those images which seemed to be prints from movies, that's wright. They are screen prints from The Name of the Rose, a movie; The Secret of Kells, an animation and Vikings, a series by History Channel and I already asked for them to be deleted urgently. I apologise about those mistakes and understand the importance of using the right licenses. I would really appreciate if you could help me to use the right licenses, since I am new at Wikipedia and not used to its rules. Also, those Tabara and St. Gaal images are very important for my work and I fear it wouldn't be as good as it could if I don't use them. So, I would really appreciate if I could only change the licenses and still be using them. Thank you, again. And sorry if I did something wrong. --Lucas Pianta (talk) 17:29, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Scriptorium sao gallo.png and File:Scriptorium Of Tábara.jpg are not your own work. They are seemed very old, so should be in public domain. You need to fix license tags. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:59, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's right, they are not my own work. They were handmade in the Middle Ages. As you can see, the author of Tabara's image is Beatus of Liebana and it was made in 1220, also, the license I used for it was public domain. Should I change something in that picture? About the other picture, how can I change its license for public domain and edit its infos? Thank you. --Lucas Pianta (talk) 15:46, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File pages could be edited as regular pages. Sorry, but {{Cc-zero}} didn't exist in 1220. You need to use public domain tags with period of copyrights protection. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:50, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I got a message from you about 3 of my images possible will be delete. They are... File:Old Growth (New-Now) 8.jpg File:Old Growth (New-Now) 2.jpg File:Old Growth (New-Now) 1 .jpg

I want to let you know that I own the public art work with Alison Wright, I am the co-artist and designer and I also own these images. The photos are taken by Tom Paiva but the images are own by me and Alison Wright. I was just about to edit the details and put my name in all of them.

Can you straight this out for me? Please let me know how I can move forward.

Thank you so much for all your help!

Hi there,

I work for Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and we noticed that our logo was removed from the museum's wiki page saying that it was a "non-trivial logo" and was a copyright violation. Can you elaborate more on this and tell me what I need to do for it to be acceptable to stay on the page? The file was named Slugger-museum-logo-304.jpeg.

Thanks,

--Fuchs nick (talk) 18:04, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask museum official (director, lawyer, etc) to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and image undeletion. Alternatively you could upload logo locally to project which allow non-free media, for example, English Wikipedia. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:19, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mirai Suenaga undelete[edit]

Hi EZ, can you undelete these? Looking at the evidence, the original author has released the character under a free license, so speedy doesn't apply. See Category:Mirai Suenaga.

I think will be good idea to dig into issue deeply. Character claimed to be created for TV program, so copyrights transfer is possible. Commons:OTRS clarification from Danny Choo should solve problem. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:17, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I signed the music author (music session in this case) and listed the songs, as it is on freemusicarchive.org which is the source of music files. Is there something I missed? Perhaps derivative work is if I use music in the manner I did- Mixed together with interviews? Music is used as background music. It is instrumental music.

Please let me know Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yellow alligator (talk • contribs) 18:37, 26 December 2018 (UTC) Misha — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishavi (talk • contribs) 18:22, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is it listed in video itself? Please also add information to file description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:45, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Where license for that music could be found (URLs)? This information is missing from description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:42, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I update with URL in description now. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishavi (talk • contribs) 18:01, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but music is licensed under terms of CC-BY-NC-4.0. You need to remove or find music with license compatible with Commons:Licensing. You could not also claim own work when work(s) of other person(s) is used. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:42, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is licensed with non commercial NC use, and I see now that is not in tune with commons policy. However, this video was for non commercial use, but understand that there must be some other reasons with the policy. And Own work was editing. Sorry for trouble. Will be more in detail in the future. You can remove video. Thank you. Best, Misha — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishavi (talk • contribs) 16:46, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of File:Grupo Desportivo Águias de Camarate.png[edit]

Why did you delete the logo of the football club Grupo Desportivo Águias de Camarate? There is no right being violated. It's just a shared of information, usage of a logo so that the people know about it, its free of use. Google it. --Daniel AR Pires (talk) 19:23, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is non-trivial logo. Availability on Internet doesn't mean free license. See Commons:Licensing. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:49, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I followed every rule and tried to upload it just like all the other football clubs did in their wikipedia pages. Like: "https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Madrid_Club_de_F%C3%BAtbol" and "https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_Lisboa_e_Benfica". So if you deleted it can you please help me get it back up again or undelete it? --Daniel AR Pires (talk) 15:58, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Both logos are uploaded locally on Portuguese Wikipedia as non-free images. Please read local rules there. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:36, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So I understand, but how do I upload it like the other logos? I tried to follow the same principal and selected the respective License and also put in the description that it was a logo but still got taken down. So can you undelete it and make the necessary changes to stay in accordance with the rules? Please. --Daniel AR Pires (talk) 14:44, 15 August 2018 (UTC) I think I already did it right, check it out.--Daniel AR Pires (talk) 14:59, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free media is not allowed on Commons. See Commons:Licensing. Please learn how to upload onto Portuguese Wikipedia and how to describe non-free media correctly there. See descriptions of both logos which you provided as examples. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:05, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't delete my file[edit]

Please, proceed with the deletion of the following files[edit]

I have uploaded File:ABeamer Logo.svg, File:ABeamer Screenshot.png which I'm the sole copyright owner, however, due the fact it was meant to be used in the page ABeamer, a page that I created and describes an open-source software that I created which was tagged for speedy deletion, due conflict of interest. In that sense, those 2 files no longer fit the purpose of their existence in wikipedia. Please, proceed with the deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A-bentofreire (talk • contribs) 23:38, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Problem about my post en "Vikio amas Zeojn"[edit]

I thank for the notification of the problem about the copyrights existing in my post. I am sure that there are no problems, but I do not know in which photo is the problem noticed and so I cannot solve it. The most parte of the photos are taken in the public streets; some are of the marble bust of Zamenhof, which is in the Esperanto Library, sculpted by Riccardo Rossi, and owned by the library itself, where me and others of the Esperanto Group voluteers. How can I remove the noticed problem? I am not so expert to do it by alone! Thanks for your help, Enrico (Apuano1)

Are you photographer? If so, please reupload photos as separate files, preferably in original resolution with EXIF.
In case of bust, please ask Riccardo Rossi to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:10, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning and thanks for your help! The photographer is my friend and esperantist Alessandro Simonini; we decided to post not only photos, but a full article with phrases and photos, to partecipate in the "Premio Kvinpetala Stelo". I will try to put the photos in the original resolution with EXIF in our file. Unfortunately, the sculptor R. Rossi died in the year 1983 ( https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riccardo_Rossi_(scultore) ); therefore, I do not understand why we should ask, now, to the heirs, for a permission about a sculptur that was regularly purchased around the year 1976 by the esperantists of Massa, Tuskany, just for their Esperanto Library. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apuano1 (talk • contribs) 07:33, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You need to ask Alessandro Simonini to upload photos himself or to send permission to OTRS.
Did Riccardo Rossi have hair(s)? If so, they inherited copyrights and could give permission(s).
It's better to place text in relevant WMF project then with photos.

No source[edit]

{{No source}} should be avoided on obviously public domain images like this, unless grounds like it being a new derivative work with creative elements exist. This is especially true in cases like this which are in use on Wikipedia. Thanks -- (talk) 05:16, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Logo file[edit]

Hi Eugene. Could you please take a look to the file, you marked for deletion for the reason it's unused? I was hoping to upload it to Wikipedia page of the same name (the file's usage should be in Infobox section). Apparently I made a mistake with selecting CC4 as a license, as it's a non-free logo. Also, you mentioned SVG? is it necessary for this purpose? Thank you so much for your reply.--MicaelaQes72 (talk) 10:58, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Derivative work - audio description[edit]

Hi. I was puzzled by this edit of yours: [3]. The reference link you have given does not appear to cover audio descriptions. Could you please provide a reference for the claim you have made in the tag for deletion. Thanks! --Joalpe (talk) 15:14, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know Portuguese :-( These files contain spoken text. If text is Wikipedia articles, please use {{Spoken article}} for descriptions. Otherwise, please specify source. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:33, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Please, ping me next time, so I can see your answer. You are wrong-doing with marking these files for deletion. These audio descriptions are being made under my supervision as a professor of Journalism in the context of an education program [4]. The legal claim you are making on these deletion signs is unsubstantiated and as indicated the source is the creator of the file. Thanks. --Joalpe (talk) 14:28, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please specify source(s) of text used for audio files creation. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:31, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is specified. It was created by the student itself, as indicated on the file. This is crystal clear on the upload. --Joalpe (talk) 14:33, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You could add English description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:37, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Be bold. And just stop this. --Joalpe (talk) 14:40, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's reasonable to improve files descriptions to avoid any misunderstandings in future instead of just removing warnings templates. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:42, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is not necessary. If you want a description in English, just be bold. I have transferred this discussion to an appropriate community site: Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#File:Audio_file_of_Retirada_do_Cabo_São_Roque.wav. I won't keep talking to you here, as what you are saying is not in accordance to the rules of this project. --Joalpe (talk) 14:54, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

marston56[edit]

manuscript marston56 is 600 years old, it belongs to Yale library and was photographed and published on their site, free for everybody to use

the rest of the files you want to delete were published in Italy more than 100 years ago and their authors died more than 70 years ago so they are ok both by italian and american law. PLease tell me what tag to put there because the "copyright tags" page isn't very helpful. Thanks! G.Musso (talk) 17:04, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Macarena García Romero.png[edit]

Hi EugeneZelenko!

I took this photo from a live tv show interview about a year ago. I decided to post this Image now because I want this emerging actress to be identified with a picture since she is becoming more recognized by these days and she has not a picture yet in wikipedia. The image has a low resolution because it's just for identification purpose in her Biography page, also that she won't be confused with other persons that have a similar name, like for example another actress from Spain. The Image was taken with a average old camera (kodak zd 8612), in automatic mode. You also can check that this Image is not posted on the internet before here.

I hope this clarification can help to keep the File posted. Thank you for the attention. --Cesoso55 (talk) 02:57, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You could upload photo in original resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:22, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Butterfield's "Time Schedule" in "Butterfield Overland Mail"[edit]

Eugene: I am surprised at this notice since I cleared using the Butterfield Schedule with Wikipedia “Master Editor” whose logo on Wikipedia is Cullen328. I will show my request on Wikipedia and his answer here, but suspect that the issue may be that I did not properly fill out the form. I thought I had by giving an additional explanation on the Wikipedia Commons that covers the source-copyright. The simple answer may be that I missed filling in the proper part of the form covering the issue. If that is the answer, I apologize and hope you will instruct me where the entry for this information should be entered on the form. Here is the explanation giving me permission by Wikipedia for why I inserted the schedule in “Butterfield Overland Mail (or you can read the entry in “Talk):

Right to use artwork.[edit source] As a newbie to the Wikipedia site, I want to be cautious at first until I understand the proper conduct. For additions of artwork to “Butterfield Overland Mail” entry in Wikipedia, I want to make sure that the information for a copy of the original Butterfield Overland Mail Company 1858-time schedule is acceptable for me to add to the site. The image to be used was scanned from the frontispiece published in “The Butterfield Overland Mail by Waterman L. Ormsby,” The Huntington Library, San Marino, California, 1991. According to a footnote in the book, the schedule was copied from “The Frances Lieber papers were purchased in 1927. A survey, by C. R. Robson, of the collection, other than the miscellaneous material, is available in “The Huntington Library Bulletin, No. 3 (Feb., 1933), pp. 135-155.” This information, if acceptable, for the use of the schedule will be included in its entirety. Thank you. Gerald T. Ahnert (talk) 16:16, 18 October 2018 (UTC)Gerald T. Ahnert Welcome to the Teahouse, Gerald T. Ahnert. Copyright is a very complex subject but some aspects are simple. Here is what the U.S. Copyright Office says: ". . . all works published in the United States before January 1, 1923, are in the public domain." So, you can use that 1858 schedule as you see fit. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:35, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello EugeneZelenko,

I'm working on the page "Musée d'ethnographie de l'université de Bordeaux" and I've read your message. Hello EugeneZelenko, could you please grant me the Bureaucrat rights at beta-commons? I promise that I will not misuse it. My beta account name is . Link for right modifications is here.--√Tæ√ 08:58, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, that project is independent from Commons, so rights should be requested there. I also don't think that Bureaucrat rights will help a lot on beta project, since this is not major kind of finctionality. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:49, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • EugeneZelenko, it does not matter what is there or not. But I am requesting you here. Please grant me the rights.--√Tæ√ 10:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sorry, but this looks like hat-collecting for me, considering your requests (RFR, and User_talk:Yann#Commons:RfR) and the post on AN. And regarding the issues you created in the past (see block log) no right should be granted at all, especially at the beta cluster (where you have GWT rights, which i revoced because you may not perform mass uploads as per unblock agreement). Structured Data - copyright and licensing statements[edit]

I've posted a second round of designs for modeling copyright and licensing in structured data. These redesigns are based off the feedback received in the first round of designs, and the development team is looking for more discussion. These designs are extremely important for the Commons community to review, as they deal with how copyright and licensing is translated from templates into structured form. I look forward to seeing you over there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:25, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Вот тема по поводу мною загруженных изображений https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Balor9003 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Balor9003 (talk • contribs) 17:09, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:21, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--Balor9003 (talk) 01:12, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:22, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--Balor9003 (talk) 20:15, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Commons OTRS volunteers. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--Balor9003 (talk) 20:18, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--Balor9003 (talk) 21:43, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Creative Commons? --Balor9003 (talk) 11:08, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:06, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Funzioni di correlazione (talk • contribs) 18:52, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gold award Maxx Get-A-Way.jpg

Hello! This file was deleted from wikimedia commons due to it being a dervative work! I am the photographer who took the picture of the award plaque.

Whatever additional copyright licenses that must be provided to wikimedia commons can be supplied. Please explain what must be done.

for this reason, the file show be undeleted

Hansgruber1967 (talk) 08:21, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please Commons:Derivative work. You could blank album cover and upload such version. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:53, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
i took the photo myself in 1994. it belongs to me. The German record label which owns the album cover art displayed in the photo is no longer in existence. if needed i can provide proof of this. also the photo is a fair use image that is in the public domain. it can be easily found online just by searching and is already apart of wikipedia.
look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get-A-Way#/media/File:Maxx-get-a-way_single.jpg

do the same rules apply to this article on Michael Jackson where his platinum award is shown along with the album cover of his hit album 'thriller' clearly displayed on the award plaque in the photo?

Please read w:en:Public domain and w:en:Fair use to understand what these terms mean.
At least in File:Thriller_platinum_record,_Hard_Rock_Cafe_Hollywood.JPG case album cover occupy much less space.

Facenapalm (talk) 15:21, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:26, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Facenapalm (talk) 15:34, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:38, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the original I would like deleted but the subsequent edits which add nothing to the original. Where do I find the most current information to properly provide author/source and country of origin and correctly tag a license? Please advise. Regards. Who is original photographer? Was this photo published somewhere? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:28, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you have challenged various images uploaded by User:GTheFinder, and seem to understand how this all works so I'd like to draw your attention to another image he seems to have added (I've always found Wikimedia Commons very confusing, so many rules). This is the edit where he added it to the Marisa Miller article, and here is the for the same image at Wikipedia commons although the username that uploaded it to Commons appears to be a different user User:Thejacksoncage12 the metadata looks very similar, again no camera details but Windows Photo Editor, and the provenance of the image seems dubious. -- 109.76.144.238 15:14, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for help! I nominated this photo for deletion too. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:19, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pdf-files[edit]

Could you explain please what is the exact licence problem with files like

File:Grundkurs Mathematik (Osnabrück 2018-2019)Teil IVorlesung7.pdf

or

File:Grundkurs Mathematik (Osnabrück 2018-2019)Teil IVorlesung20.pdf

I am professor of mathematics and am the author of these files writing it on german wikiversity, hence CC-by-sa 3.0. The uploaded version is the pdf-version (more beautiful). For used images from Commons all licences are given explicitly in the appendix of the file. The licensing statement expresses this and links to the wikiversity file. So please tell me what else I have to do in order to make the licencing satisfactory. Thank you, Holger. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bocardodarapti (talk • contribs) 21:55, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

please see the talk on Template talk:Wikiversitydedruckversion, thanksBocardodarapti (talk) 23:50, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This files include historical photos and illustrations. Most likely they are in public domain, but you need to list their sources/copyrights status in files descriptions. Please do this for all such files, not only in those I marked. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:58, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand this in the case of Dedekind/Peano, where indeeed something went wrong in the appendix, but not in the case of File:Grundkurs_Mathematik_(Osnabrück_2018-2019)Teil_IArbeitsblatt3.pdf (all pictures are from Commons, maybe that I could also add in the appendix). Best regards,Bocardodarapti (talk) 15:44, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
At least you could refer to page where images are attributed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:52, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I hope that now everything is satisfactory. The description page refers back to licence statement on Wikiversity, the same statement is explicitly in the file (appendix) and it is explained that all pictures come from commons (appendix). Best regardsBocardodarapti (talk) 17:24, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's better now. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mellucci Gioacchino[edit]

Mi scusi perchè cancellare il file Gioacchino lUigi Mellucci , complesso termale ed area urbanizzazione? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arsenio1678 (talk • contribs) 11:55, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know Italian :-( Files nominated for deletion are historical photos and documents, not your own works. However there is possibility that they are in public domain. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:01, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Me explico[edit]

Saludos --Santiago Urquiza (talk) 02:52, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Traduction[edit]

Since I am not an expert in Wikipedia, I had no choice but to highlight it in the image as "Own work" (since I did not allow it). If you can and if you want you can edit it, changing the origin, the license and others.

the translation may be wrong ;)

--Santiago Urquiza (talk) 02:55, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know Portuguese :-( If photos were made by other people, please provide their source, authors and license information. Please note that licenses must confirm Commons:Licensing, otherwise files must be deleted. If photos were made by you, you could upload thim in original resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:35, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know Spanish :-(
Problem with permission should be solved following way: copyrights holder should send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and images undeletion.
Please note that some of images may not fit into Commons:Scope because of their advertisement nature.

Deletion request[edit]

Traducción: It does not make sense to delete images that have been taken from my authorship along with other friends fans of professional wrestling. A few years ago I was banned from an account permanently for allegedly the same violation of copyrights with images of football players that I took with my own camera while posing with fans after matches, t they did not let me defend myself or prove that it really was that way. The accusation seems absurd and very unjust, so there is very little desire to collaborate more, so do whatever you want. --El mantecoso (talk) 22:01, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

bot flag removal[edit]

hello, if you got some time,
can you remove the bot flag from my bot.
the bot is not active and I don't plan to use it any time soon.
So this is probably safe to disable the bot flag.
and maybe do an indef block on the bot for security purpose.

The bot is Esby-mw-bot (talk · contribs).
Thanks in advance.

Multilingual captions beta testing[edit]

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[5][6] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Known issues:

Thanks!

Gunther Schuller Society concert program[edit]
