Image uploads by Mitchmunro[edit]

Hello, I have recently uploaded 6 images to the Transhumanist Party UK rebrand wiki page: https://hpluspedia.org/wiki/Proposed_Transhumanist_Party_UK_rebrand#Submissions_3.E2.80.938

I understand they have been flagged for deletion: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mitchmunro#Notification_about_possible_deletion

I can confirm that all 6 files are rebrand proposals for the Transhumanist Party UK, and not advertisements as you claim. I can also confirm that the original artwork is my own and I have paid for the images via Shutterstock and Adobe Stock. Please explain why the files are scheduled for deletion.

I appreciate you help with matters. G Mitchell Munro — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitchmunro (talk • contribs) 12:13, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In this case these files are Commons:Derivative works. You bought right to use images for party, but not for everything else. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:50, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct - the images are only for the use of the Party. Can you confirm that in this case the images will not be scheduled for deletion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitchmunro (talk • contribs) 14:31, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Commons:Derivative works carefully. These images could not be kept. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:33, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image uploads by Lillyderby[edit]

Hi, I recently uploaded two images: File:Karina W Davidson.png and File:Science of Behavior Change.png and they have both been listed for deletion. Both of these images are relevant to the pages that they rest on, and therefore I support the argument that these images to remain on their respective pages. I would like to know what I can do to ensure that these images will not be removed.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lillyderby (talk • contribs) 14:45, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See w:en:Help:Table for proper way to add tables into articles. Please read Commons:Licensing to understand problem with photo. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:47, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To confirm- If I add the source of the two images, will it be removed from the consideration of being deleted? --Lillyderby (talk) 14:54, 26 July 2017 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lillyderby (talk • contribs) 14:51, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You could upload photo in full resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship. See also w:en:Scalable Vector Graphics for better format for trivial logos. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:54, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. So once I make these changes to the page photos I should no longer have a problem with them getting deleted? --Lillyderby (talk) 15:01, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by Zbisem[edit]

Hi Eugene. I am not skillful in Wikimedia and I am not sure whether I am writing in a proper place. Excuse my possible errors. I have tried to add the required explanation at the file and did my best, but I am not sure whether this was properly sent and recorded. The photo

Irena Semadeni-Konopacka w Szczecinie.jpg

is a digitized version of a paper copy of a picture of my mother taken by me with an analogue camera on Dec. 3, 1966. It has never been published. I also added categories (copied from Wikipedia). Zbisem (talk) 17:12, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of inserting photos:

Tadeusz Semadeni plynie kraulem.jpg

Irena Semadeni-Konopacka w Szczecinie.jpg

Wladyslaw Semadeni (1865-1930).jpg

was that each of these persons had a separate article in Polish Wikipedia without a portrait photo. The only way of adding a picture was to use Wikimedia Commons. My brother (File:Allan Andrzej Semadeni 1944 na balkonie ul Noakowskiego.jpg) was a 16-years old scout who perished in Warsaw uprising and posthuously got a cross for his bravery, and has been mentioned in many publications. My father Tadeusz Semadeni was a founder of Polish swimming sport and the person who brought crawl to Poland. Three of these pictures were taken by myself. The picture of my grandfather was taken before 1923. All these files are results of recent digitizing of paper photos. I am also trying to add categories to those pictures. Zbisem (talk) 20:39, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I answer on Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Zbisem. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:22, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MalemuteD (talk) 21:45, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:12, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
MalemuteD (talk) 19:38, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The image 'IPDC Finance Official Logo' that I have added to the wiki page IPDC Finance Limited is an accurate representation of the company. The same image has been uploaded 4 times, which might have created a confusion. I would like to address that this has been done as I wasn't aware of how exactly to change the existing image. I have also provided the official cite from which the image was found. It is the official website of IPDC Finance Limited. I'm providing it here again for more clarity: http://www.ipdcbd.com/. Hence, I would like to earnestly request that the current image be kept as it is. Feel free to ask questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aroni965 (talk • contribs) 06:06, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EugeneZelenko, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:EugeneZelenko/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
  1. ISSUE: line 3 character 91: Script URL. - Evidence: mw.util.addPortletLink('p-tb', 'javascript:importScript("MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js");', 'Perform batch task', 't-AjaxQuickDeleteOnDemand');

--Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (diskuse) 08:03, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know Czech enough to write on each :-( Who is painter of this picture? Where did he live and when he/she died? Painting may be in public domain, but you need to provide this information. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is should be line between personal and general subjects. Unless photo feature something what was changed or destroyed it's not good idea when it also feature too much of non-notable person(s). I always try to avoid shoot buildings/structures with people myself. See also Commons:Project_scope/cs. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see Your comments and I ask You to study some other subject and not my. I work on all this what You can see together with the staff of wikimedia.cy , I partecipate regularly in the advanced course of wikipedia organized by them in Prague, in wiki club, organized once a week in Prague centre, and You - please - take this in the serious consideration. I have nothing to add because You are just one and they are many with the 15th year experience. So please let us work . We do not know who are You, where You live, and so on..... The painter "villa Conkś" is also to me unknowen, because my relatives are dead since many years and also I am already 67 years old. Here in Prague wikipedia appreciates to have possible informations and photoes from persons like me SENIORS because they have a lot to say.--Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (talk) 14:30, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think will be better if experienced Commons user will explain you Commons rules.
If painter is unknown, at least country and approximate date of creation need to be known.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:33, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The country of the origin can be introduced. I see that You are sitting on internet and also I am present now in the wiki club in Prague Center where I am not alone and where our instructor is present , too. Be so kind and tell me in which country You are sitting so I can forward my request to our Czech wiki organization to complain that You interfere with our work. You could be of the slovak origin and I wonder that Your knowledge of our both languages is so bad. But perhaps You are sitting in some country where azbuka is used, as I can see in some Your wiki page. I live since 42 years between Prague and Rome, I have my 2 residences - one in Prague and one near Rome and I speak correctly both languages . The English language is my 3rd language. I write in Czech language all notes introduced because I am proud that the Czech wikipedia gave me the possibility to learn at my age to partecipate in wikipedia /wiki commons with my life experience. The 1st wife of Mr Trump - USA president - is of my age and was born in the same town where also I was born, their daughter Ivanka became the world wide famouse young lady, so now also OTHER would learn the Czech language , if during my life working as lady-engineer I had to learn a lot of many languages of the whole world. --Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (diskuse) 15:04, 17 May 2017 (UTC)--Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (diskuse) 17:22, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

I wish to add that it was not me to give categories to my photoes but categories were created by the correctors of wiki Prague and many other persons are already present in these categories in wiki commons with their personal photoes, so "my" in not the 1 st case which exists in wiki commons of Czech republic. We have here this "type" of vision so take off your writtings that make my photos agly PLEASE !!!--Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (diskuse) 15:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)--Conkova Cognetti Kvetoslava (diskuse) 17:17, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Loko Screenshot deletion[edit]

Hi Eugune, I just saw that you have deleted a screenshot of Loko mobile app which you flagged as a possible copyright violation - https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Loko_screenshot.png&action=edit&redlink=1. The screenshot is one, random picture from the app and the presented clothes and brand are in compliance with Loko's terms & conditions for cooperating brands http://www.getlokoapp.com/brand-policy Let me know what I should do so I could show on Loko's page how the app works and be fine with Wiki standards. Thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gallinulae (talk • contribs) 14:33, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my Polish is not good enough to read lawyers documents, but seems that 4.8.1 and LOKOAPP Ltd All Rights Reserved contradict Commons:Licensing. As far as I know Polish Wikipedia doesn't allow non-free media, so link to web site in article is only option. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:40, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that! Actually 4.8.1. says that Loko's partners (brands) give unlimited licensing to the pictures of their products, which as far as I understand means it's ok to be published on Wiki. The app itself is also for free for the users. For instance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinder_(app) has a screenshot of the app and you can access the app for free or buy premium package. Nevertheless - if I make a screenshot of how the app works but without any particular brand or pricetag - would that be ok? --Gallinulae
On my understanding partners gives rights to Loko only. Loko itself keeps all rights. English Wikipedia allows non-free media and screenshot you mentioned is non-free one (fair use). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:47, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your VFC installation method is deprecated[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Not sure how we should specify the license, but this should be OK. http://www.portseattle.org/Newsroom/Image-Library/Pages/default.aspx seems to me to grant broad enough permissions (although it doesn't explicitly mention derivative versions). Using the search function I was able to find the relevant image (2nd one in http://www.portseattle.org/Newsroom/Image-Library/Pages/Results.aspx?k=P-69&cs=This%20Site&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portseattle.org%2FNewsroom%2FImage-Library). I presume you could eventually find it by going next-next-next from that first page, but I didn't have the patience. - Jmabel ! talk 00:58, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong deletion about Pr Fox's pictures[edit]

What I've you done ? Why my pictures loaded since a long time are deleted now, though it is Public domain !?

   File:Josephine Baker-Washington March cut.jpg
   File:Baker Banana fx2.png
   File:GA sepiaFx2t.gif

It is very complicated to contribute with visual pictures on wikipédia ; but I assure you it is a "maldonne" (like we say in French) ! First (about Josephine Baker) are from public notoriety free to use (ex: [in Washington March] etc.)
And the second choice (Georges Arnaud) is a review of a picture offered by the son of the writer himself. (P.D.) I'll be pleased if you can undelete those contributions (or if you'll do not erase it again, in the case I'll be obliged to re-load them...) --Pr Fox (talk) 13:35, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain images should have relevant public domain tag. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. If you are willing to fix descriptions I could restore files.
Please writer's heir(s) to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and image undeletion.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:09, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Misunderstanding :
Looking with care, it appears that the pictures are different, before the reworks : I just explaned here, honestly, the sources I used to create something else. Then my role was to upload, as I was the only one abble to (somme people don't use internet, and even less wikipedia... I don't know actually where to contact the son, but I made with him the official website about his father in 2014, with free to use textes and pictures... You can verify.) The son is not the "author" (photographe is older than 70 years), but the owner, successor in collaboration ..
Use is ambiguous term. Public domain status should be based on proper data and copyrights law of relevant country. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:21, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In my country if you execute change(s) to a picture you became "author". Eventualy it is written "D.R." (= Reserved rights). (NB/ "Image Ownership: Public Domain" is written about the Josephine's photo. Do you think it is better to show the woman only with her bananas-suit, than with the medales she got because of her actions in the Resistance during the war...) It is not, in my view, a "fair use", but a french-retouch of a DP picture. Hope you'll understand... --Pr Fox (talk) 15:26, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Historical photos, documents and map From "Curinga"[edit]

Hi EugeneZelenko. Thanks for the feedback you provided about uploaded and controlled files.

These files are freely available on the internet on different sites that do not specify and do not have intellectual property on the images in question.

The photo of Neolithic ceramic was taken by an unknown author during a museum exhibition where photographs could be taken. It is used in several sites that illustrate the neolithic ceramic artifacts of Curinga. I mentioned the builder of reconstructed ceramics during his experimental archeology laboratory

Same speech to the Greek staters. Made by an unknown author They have been placed in a catalog that can be found on different sites and that does not specify the intellectual property of third parties. However, I mentioned the catalog that does not own the exclusive property of this photo.

Byzantine inscription is present in a public archaeological site with free access. I mentioned the author of the photo and the translation. It is present on some books and many websites that do not have the intellectual property of the work.

Norman parchment The photo was taken from a book I mentioned that it does not brag and does not specify the intellectual rights on the work. My photo uploaded is just a fragment of the original image on the book.

All the images I uploaded are significant to provide a clear idea of the wikivoice "Curinga" are freely available on different websites granted to the "world" by their unknown authors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curinghese (talk • contribs) 20:06, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Documents with personal data[edit]

Hello Eugene, I am an administrator on the Lusophone Wikipedia and recently the article about a biography is proposed for deletion. To prove the notoriety, a user went after a "statement of notoriety" and posted a photo of it here in the Commons. I believe that documents are prohibited, even more a document that has personal data of the biography, such as the identity number. I could check this case, grateful.

User uploaded scan of books, but are these books in public domain or under free license? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Eugene, the problem is that the books do not have great propagation, it seems to be known in a certain place, so I'm trying to contact the organization that offered the objects to know more about the licenses.
However, my initial concern is about the file "Atestado da APLAC sobre obras de Jurandy Leite.jpg", because this file has personal data of official documents of the biography, this can be detrimental to the same. Conde Edmond Dantès (talk) 21:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
May be some library has copy? So link to catalog should solve problem. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question the deletion of a pdf,[edit]

You know that POWR 4.pdf file about the Land Master successor brochure. Which got nominated and deleted . I was wondering how to find that pdf. I been researching about the Land Master for roughly a year for my personal use and I was finding about what the successor called POWR 4 look like. At the time I didn't know the article was updated by a new users who appeared to have new images of the vehicle (and one he got from two forums which I presumed is not his)

I do not want it to be undeleted because it did breach guidelines on the Commons. But I'm intreasted of what the brochure was and if it had pictures of the POWR 4. I'm probably asking the wrong person. --Makizox (talk) 13:17, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Possible deletion of File:Frederic allen williams.jpg File:Fannie Hurst 1925 leviathan.jpg File:Augustus Post.jpg[edit]

Hello. You have marked several of my photo submissions for potential deletion. These photos, among a number of others, are my own, that is to say that I have rephotographed the originals and both the new version taken with my iPhone and the originals are mine to disseminate. In many cases there is no original copyright holder as the pieces were simply made by family members and passed down. As the great great niece of Augustus Post, who had no children--and having permission from my one aunt, who is now 85 years old, and one of the last people to have known Post personally and who could be considered his heir--I believe I am qualified to post the documents and photos. I tried my best to use the Template:Heir tag to indicate as much. There is no estate of Augustus Post. I'm all there is. And I hope to post more information relevant to him in the near future as he was the founder of the American Automobile Association and the 13th person to fly in an airplane among other distinctions, and seems worthy of a Wikipedia page. If you can help me understand how I should fill out the submission information more effectively, I will be happy to do so. Hollykatharine (talk) 17:40, 13 June 2017 (UTC)hollykatharine[reply]

@EugeneZelenko and Hollykatharine:

Frederic allen william.jpg was taken circa 1940 in New York City by Augustus Post. Post died in 1952. Williams died in 1958. The Augustus Post.jpg picture was taken by Frederic Allen Williams circa 1948 in their studio apartment in New York City, at 58 West 57th Street. The old building was torn down and rebuilt in the 70s. Williams took the Fannie Hurst 1925 leviathan.jpg picture in 1925 at the New York docks where the SS Leviathan was in port. Williams was visiting with his friend E.N. Pickerill, who had become chief radio signal officer for that ship. I hope that information is sufficient. If you want to offer me a screen cap of how I should have input that information originally, I will follow the protocol in the future. As for my signature being redundant, Jeff G., I will do my best to follow the rules. For what it's worth, I did carefully view the video at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_talk_pages and tried to follow the conventions. I appreciate your moving my post to the correct location, however, again, I was simply following the instructions in the tutorial video. Perhaps it would be useful to update it. I imagine you would have a good idea of how to go about that. Hollykatharine (talk) 19:07, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Whiteplains British School[edit]

I observed that you deleted the files Whiteplains British School (Secondary School), Whiteplains British School Logo and Whiteplains British School (primary school) which I uploaded. You noted that they violated Wikipedia copyright polcies and guidelines. While my first attempt was unsuccessful because of copyright violation, this last upload attempt, I think, is perfect because I tried to apply appropriate copyright tags for the files. I think the file should be restored. Subsequently, I suspect that my last article Whiteplains British School is not on my sandbox, perhaps deleted as I await its review and acceptance on Wikipedia page. Can you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nwachinazo (talk • contribs) 11:43, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My Files[edit]

Hello,

ALL are my files, and I have been personally recording, photographing Giorgi Latso. I don't know why you want to delete files you requested. This is grevious error. Please let me know how do zou want me to prove that I own those files, and I am a owner. Deleting those will be great mistake. Thanks! Sincerely, Asuas (talk) 19:46, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the tag for delation and just advice what do you want me to do, or how you want me to prove that I own all those files that zou have nominated for delation. I regard this as very unfair, seeing that I have put some hard work in this, pfotographing, recording, uploading, contributing this to wikimedia. If there was some violations, I am willing to fix and to improve -- I am open for that. But not just delete all work I did here. Please advice. Thanks. Asuas (talk) 19:53, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since photos looks like promo ones, I think confirmation of your authorship via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates) is necessary. Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review.
Who is performer in audio files?
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:24, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply! Just let me know how to do authorship, and I will gladly do. Whatever is needed, I will follow your suggestions. By the way, the photo (taken in Moscow Conservatory during the masterclasses, also another one when he is just giving Authographs afterthe concert in London) don't really look like promo ones - don't you think? However I am willing to submit any authorship you ask. Of course on audio files GIORGI LATSO is performing --- all AUDIO files i have uploaed - performer is he! I have permission from him that I can use this files (OGG format) in Wikimedia - and I can submit that if needed. Please kindly let me know what I suppose to do now, at this point, to survive the files your tagged for deletion. Many thanks! I would really hope for your fair and kind help. Thanks! Cheers, Asuas (talk) 17:29, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I just sent emails via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates for each photo and audio file. I hope I get answer soon. Somebody from wikimedia commons left me message that i might have a chance to get those files survived. I hope so. By the way, can you please add performer name: GIORGI LATSO to ogg (audio) files, since you asked me about that? I just don't know how to do that. Thanks! Cheers Asuas (talk) 09:04, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EugeneZelenko, I do have a permission from Giorgi Latso (performer) to use these audio files in wikimedia/wikipedia. It's written permission to me, he sent me Email. Do I need to forward this email to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates) ? Please kindly advice. Thanks! Asuas (talk) 06:43, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Giorgi Latso should send permission himself. See Commons:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I just sent him email and asked him to send permission to Commons:OTRS, same as I did. Hope this will help. If there is anything I should do, please let me know. Much appreciated. Cheers Asuas (talk) 21:43, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I work for KES the Band, and assist with keeping their social media etc up to date. Wikipedia also falls within my jurisdiction. I recently made changes to our Wikipedia page with photo's that were submitted by our photographers, who were paid by us.

I am requesting that you remove the deletion notice on the following, as these photos (and music videos) belong to KES THE BAND:

If there are other reasons as to why Wikimeda cannot allow these images of the band at work, kindly give guidelines , as to what type of photography is acceptable understanding that this is a music band almost any photo will seem as if it is a promotional item.

Best Regards

Alavi Bohra: File: Alavi_origin.pdf[edit]

Dear Editor,

Hope for the best of your health. The issue of the copyright of the said file has been resolved and I am having communique with Paulo Santos Perneta with "[Ticket#2017070110009749] [Ticket#2017070410007932] Subject:Copyright"

This is the matter of the last email he sent to me,

""Dear Mohammad Nuruddin (NoorAlavi),

I apologize for not recognizing the website, but we receive many tickets here at OTRS and it's difficult to keep track of everything without the proper ticket numbers.

The licensing issue is now resolved, but it seems your text is being contested at Commons for not being in scope there.

I believe you should write directly on the articles you want to edit, and then, if you come to a situation where you want to use text already published on that or another website, then you send the permission specifically to that text and article.

Nevertheless, I have made the necessary modifications to the file page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alavi_origin.pdf""

Thanking you,--NoorAlavi (talk) 05:38, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding some of the ".jpg" files being uploaded on "Alavi Bohras" or "Haatim Zakiyuddin" pages are either from the website "www.alavibohra.org" or taking from our private collection. The user "NoorAlavi" is the chief editor of the afore mentioned website and the caretaker of the electronic library (private collection) at the residence of the Spiritual Leader (Alavi Bohras) in Vadodara. As the person in question is one and same, the issue of the copyright does not arise.

Augustus-ua (talk) 18:06, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:59, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please let me know if this is enough and what else needs to be done. Goodreg3 (talk) 14:21, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please add this link to permission field in images descriptions. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:22, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Please let me know if this is satisfactory. Goodreg3 (talk) 14:25, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine now. I removed no permission template. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:29, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by Nikola910[edit]

Dear, EugeneZelenko. I have permision from file owners to use them. That files are very important for me because I added them in some national history pages. Please think about it. I can proove that there is no any violation of owner rights and I could sent you all needed informations about that files. Nikola910 (talk) 15:24, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that there is difference between copyrights ownership and ownership of physical copies. But some photos may be in public domain. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:51, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to answer in Russian but I don't have such keyboard. Tell me what I can do to save files from deletion? I am ready to ask owner to sent his permition to otrs.com. Some of that files are taken from National museum which alows us to use then while rest were sent to me on an history page. Real authors are dead by decades while photos were sent to me by their descendants who doesn't have anything against their publication. Only one file belongs to my family and I don't need copyrights for publishing photo of my grandfather. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikola910 (talk • contribs) 17:15, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need to find out country/photographers/date of creation information for each photo. If photographers is not known, date of creation/publication determines when photo will be in public domain. With this information you need to look to relevant copyrights law. Summaries of them are on Commons:Copyright rules by territory.
If photo is not in public domain yet, you need to ask permission from photographer. If original author is dead, his/her heir(s) inherit copyrights and you need to ask permission from them.
If you prefer, I could answer in Russian too.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 25 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. But I think file desctiption cannot be changed so I basically need to upload them again with proper informations. Photos were created in Yugoslavia during WW2 so copyright of one file definitely expired after 72 years of grandfather's death. According to map, copyrights are life+70 years.

. Nikola910 (talk) 17:48, 25 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Descriptions could be edited. You don't need to re-upload files. So was you grandfather photographer for some photos? In such cases his heirs could give permission, if he died less then 70 years ago. Only problem that all heirs need to do so. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:JovanicDavid.png This is my grandfather on this photo but photographer is unknown. He died in begining of 1945. and had only one kid (my mother). What I can do in such case if author is unknown? I tried edit of file but seems imposible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikola910 (talk • contribs) 18:39, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This cold be viewed as anonymous work. Date of creation is known, so 70 years could from this. {{PD-old}} is relevant license tag, and you should mention that photographers in unknown in file description. Just click Edit (or what it sound on Serbian, if you use Serbian translation) tab on file page. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:06, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recently you deleted File:Heartland Institute Logo.png for copyright reasons as being too complex to be considered copyright free. The problem is that commmons seems to say people can put in some logos is they are fairly simple. Would it be possible please to assess whether a picture could satisfy fair use for related articles, or at least a logo would probably be okay for a company article, and have some robot automatically move them to the appropriate wiki out of commons please instead of them disappearing and having some bot elsewhere automatically remove all references so people don't even know there was a suitable picture already? Thanks. Dmcq (talk) 15:27, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This logo could definitely be uploaded as non-free image on projects which allows them. However, I don't know how easy will be task of automating moves to such projects, because of necessity of justification of usage. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:00, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

US State Archives and pics[edit]

Please explain[edit]

File:Teena self.jpg

…as per this edit of yours, how come does this photo do not document school uniforms of Indonesia, hijabs in Indonesia, photos taken on 2012.12.12, December 2012 in Indonesia, and rimless eyeglasses? -- Tuválkin 00:04, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had hoped for a good reason, although I could not imagine one. But no, it’s the disappointment I feared. Please read Commons:Categories, at the very least: Categories are not meant to be filled by an arbitrary number of «enough media» (that’s what galleries are for, if only 99,99% of them weren’t utter trash); categories merely reflect the wealth of Commons, to have their contents dissiminated into subcats when/if they get too populated. Your uncategorization would have made Commons less useful: There’s no justification for that, no excuse, no pardon. -- Tuválkin 08:41, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Eugene, your condescending tone is wholly misplaced, and you’re showing, repeatedly, a disturbing view of your understanding of Commons’ goal and process — which would be bad for a simple user and are positively chilling for someone with your standing (Eugene is both admin and ’crat). Even if your opinion about the number of selfies (however defined) in Commons were an unshakable truth everybody agrees on, how would uncategorization help that? Indeed, how can you complain that these two are selfies when questioned for removing from them, i.a., the very Category:Selfies?! Were/are you indeed preparing a (2nd, in this case) DR, and did you plan to make the filepages less useful beforehand? -- Tuválkin 22:04, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Info: Both images discussed here were meanwhile subjected to a 2nd DR:
-- Tuválkin 09:35, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Often such DRs are propped up by the argument that (on top or any other slights, expressed or implied) the media item in question is uncategorized. Since at least one of the images affected by Eugene’s uncategorization had been subject to an unsuccessful DR filed by him, the stage is set for a problematic situation.
As for Category:Unused personal files, well, how much of our 40 million media items are both personal and unused? Are they all going to be tagged with this useless category? Concerning “unused”, this refers only WMF projects (very easy to check), not elsewhere on the web (harder to check) nor in hardcopy (virtually impossible); as apparently whoever developped the notion of unused file (and those who use that notion avidly) didn’t think of third party use.
-- Tuválkin 08:41, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • That’s a great idea, to include other MW wikis in Special:GlobalUsage, not only WMF’s. But there’s also to be considered reuse in other wikis (non MW), in websites created with other CMSs, in websites created with no CMS at all (like hard coded or hand coded HTML), and indeed hard copy reuse. It’s very good that the whole concept of “unused file” be reevaluated in our scope discussions.
  • About «seek and destroy»: there are hundreds of thousands of completely, undoubtedly offscope PDFs in Commons: they are very easy to track. Whoever wants to bring down the numbers and reduce the clutter-to-content ratio in Commons can have a field day with them, every day. How it is a good idea to, instead, atempt wholesale “Spring cleaning” by filing DRs on files (usually photos of non-notable people) for which there’s no consensus about their scope, is something that I cannot understand every time it happens — and it does happen a lot.
-- Tuválkin 22:04, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There are plenty of other places on Internet to host personal images. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • How does your uncategorization efforts (just now, one more!) help in any way the matter of (supposed) off scope files? Are you admitting that you are uncategorizing images you don’t like in order to make it more likely they will be deleted once you file a DR? This seems to be alarmingly disingenuous and shows a dismal lack of knowledge about DR process, to say the very least. -- Tuválkin 22:43, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • It’s going in cycles because you refuse to address the matter you’re being questioned about and everybody is pussyfooting around you because of your admin status. So much that this blatant and transparent abuse of categorization and deletion policies is left unchecked (these DR would be boldened by lack of categories if I had not undone your deterimental edits), let alone the elephant in the middle of the room I know better than address myself. -- Tuválkin 03:01, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Guanaco, allow me to reword your sentence: It’s not if «the files are so bad that they don't belong in any category, they should be immediately nominated for deletion», but rather if the files are so bad that they don’t belong in Wikimedia Commons (scope), then they should be immediately nominated for deletion and, upon deletion, they will dully vanish from the category pages. -- Tuválkin 08:47, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Archival pics and a US state[edit]

I spoke with Joe Geiger, Director of archives West Virginia Division of Culture and History. He is fine with any historic image of the state capitol building I wish to use on wikipedia (WAY before 1923) from the archives, as long as I am able to do 2 things 1) keep the watermark if there is one on the picture and 2) mention them as the source along with their web link

Can you point me to someone, or show me how, in the upload wizard, what I need to indicate so that the pic I upload is not removedCoal town guy (talk) 23:56, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Frankly, I'm very old-fashioned, so I use basic upload form :-) It allows you to customize text in {{Information}} (including source field) and select {{PD-1923}} as license tag. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:55, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Joshua Cockburn 1877.pdf[edit]

Responding to your deletion request. All of the pictures are public domain. The postcard was obtained using advanced search settings on google for public domain images. The two pictures from Life Magazine are over 50 years old so they are no longer subject to copyright. The final picture of the anchor I took myself.

Responding to your suggestion that the article is of questionable value. I strongly disagree. It amazes me that wikipedia has so little information on Marcus Garvey and those involved in his movement. Garvey's United Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A.) represented the first organized efforts of black people on 4 continents and The West Indies to respond to White Supremacy and its negative impact upon them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThomasQ260 (talk • contribs) 14:25, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image Uploads of Pancho Name by Zapatazo[edit]

Hello Mr. Eugene Zelenko. The three images I uploaded of a bio I'm designing for Pancho Name, a mexican rally driver, has been asked for deletion.

File:01 Pancho Name perfil wiki.jpg
File 1

File 1: was taken by Jordi Rierola, a photographer that sold us the picture at Rally Portugal. I changed the resolution in order to load faster and also the name with purposes of file the pictures in order.

File:02 PanchoName kart01.jpg
File 2

File 2: was taken by Pancho's father in the 90's, he just have the small resolution scan, they gave me the rights to publish it.

File:03 PanchoName 1er rally Aca.jpg
File 3

File 3: was taken by Pancho's father in the 90's, he just have the small resolution scan, they gave me the rights to publish it.

As I'm still designing the article I will keep uploading more images, all of them with permissions and also some taken by me.

Please tell me if there is another information I should put to upload them so I can use them in the Wiki.

Thanks in advance and regards.
Armando Zapata.

Error with geo-coordinated[edit]

Hi! Maybe you can help me (or indicate someone who can); I asked for help in the village pump in April 2017, but I was ignored. I wanted to know why some of my own images with geo-coordinated don't appear on maps. This file appears (1), but this other, in the same city, doesn't (2). 1 and 2 are examples that have the same problem. What can it be? --HVL talk 21:09, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see obvious reasons :-( I'm not aware about current implementation, but in past bot processed Commons database snapshot to create images layer. Somehow it skipped second image. It'll be necessary to look onto bot logs to find out reason. You could try to repeat question on Commons:Geocoding or Commons:GeoCommons. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Hey Eugene, you marked 3 files for deletion. I'm the author of those books which I wanted to share freely under Creative Common License 4.0. Why do they have to be deleted?

Why this books should be placed in Commons? Why not in Wikibooks or Wikipedia? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:48, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

What is wrong about pictures in this category. Please, don't make this harder to me. I am already exhausted with searching, scening, uploading, writing description. I don't need additional problems. If you want to help, be more polite and say precisely what's wrong.--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 14:47, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need to provide information about author/date/country of publication and proper license tag for each file. They may be in public domain, but such information is needed to proof that. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:50, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikimedia of Serbia has a permission to publish all of these pictures you've marked for deletion. As for the additional information you've asked, they cannot be provided as precisely as you want because even the personnel of Historical Archive in Subotica doesn't know for sure who made all those photos, and documents. Why do you think I should know more than they? But, as I've said, Wikimedia of Serbia may publish them.-Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 15:00, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
At least approximate data should be provided. Or data about subjects. Creative Commons licenses was founded 2001, so how their licensed could be applied to much early works? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:01, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I provided as much data as I could. Most of the documents you can see in this Category are dated to 18th century. How is anyone supposed to know more than the year and place of their creation (which is provided for all of them)? Few of the files are dated to the end of 19th century and the first half of the 20th, i.e. prior to WW2. Only the two documents of Gaspar Ulmer are dated to post-WW2 period, but as I've said earlier I have a permission of the Director of Historical Archives of Subotica to publish them.

As for the rest of the files, i. e. the ones that are not in Category Wikipedian in Residence, you may delete them. I have nothing against it.

Creative Commons licenses was founded 2001, so how their licensed could be applied to much early works?

I am not sure I've understood you correctly. Do you ask me what is the proper license for 18th and 19th-century documents?--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 20:04, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please look onto licensing section of files you uploaded. If files are in public domain, proper tag should be used. Again, Commons:Copyright rules by territory is good reference. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:50, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You suspect some problems, but you couldn't even describe them in plain English. In other words, you are not helpful. Not at all.

As for the copyright, in my country we are not so skeptical about official documents made by authors who flourished in 18th century. Do you know somebody who was born then and still lives?

Serbia is 70 years pma. Works by unknown author are 70 years after publication. FOP is very broad:

"Article 51 Any work that is permanently displayed in a street, a square or some other open public place may be reproduced in two dimensions and its copies thus made may be put on the market as will as communicated to the public in some other way, without the author's permission and without paying remuneration."

--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 15:01, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to explain problem to you. Lets try again. First, all files nominated for deletion used modern {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}. Second, information about country of origin/author/date of creation is needed to support claim of public domain. Otherwise, how could you be sure that copyrights law of Serbia should be applied? That 70 years after author death passed, or 70 years since first publication for anonymous works? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:00, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did provide all necessary informations I could, but obviously you are not happy with that. Most of the documents are from the Historical Archives of Subotica (Subotica is in Serbia), few of them are from the Municipal Museum of Subotica. But that isn't enough for you! Maybe I should translate you every single document just for you to be sure no one's copyright have been hurt. Besides, in a few days I will get written permission from HASu to publish 150 files on WikiCommons and you won't have to bother yourself with me.--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 15:17, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Archives and museums are not authors and their could not hold copyrights unless somebody explicitly assign copyrights to them. But works which are held in museums and archives could be public domain by age. Please re-read my previous comments. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've never said that archives and museums are authors of documents. I said that they are a source. The documents they hold are in public domain, especially the ones dating back to 18th and 19th century (You don't have to be super-smart to assume their author is not among the living). Otherwise, the documents wouldn't be there. Please, type me in Russian. That would be more effective.--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 15:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Archives and museums are not sources from point of view of copyrights law. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:47, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's your opinion. And you have nothing to prove it.--Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 14:47, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think for further discussion will be good idea if you'll read copyrights law of Serbia or at least article about copyrights, just to understand difference between ownership over physical copy and copyrights ownership. As well as what public domain is and authors rights after their works come to public domain. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:01, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright ownership over a 18-century document. Interesting.-Владимир Нимчевић (talk) 14:33, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I could only repeat suggestion to read copyrights law. Even when works come to public domain, authors still have some rights, like right to name. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:09, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image and Video Upload by Sunshine76[edit]

Hello, I got a notification, that you want to delete all my foto and video uploads, although I confirmed, that it´s my own work, what they really are. So I want to explain, how I do this pictures: I´m very involved in the Austrian Music-Scene and visit about 20-30 concerts a year. At most of the concerts I make a lot of videos and sometimes fotos. I got my own youtube channel, where I upload a lot of videos. I often use for this my old iphone 4 (because of the risk for damage at concerts, what happened a few times), sometimes my iphone 6 and before I got a smartphone, I used an normal older Handy or sometimes a camera, when it was allowed. Sometimes I edit (cut, colours or size) an image afterwards or in case of great videos I make a screenshot and save it as JPG-File (for example "Gert Haussner 2016 Jam Session Uferhaus Klosterneuburg.jpg" - by the way: I organized this Session by myself). In case of the video, you want to delete, I had to cut it because I only wanted the Guitar-Solo and not the 9 Minute version of the whole song. A used for this Free Studio (Free Video Editor from DVD VideoSoft) and afterwards I had to converted it to an "ogg"-Format with the VLC-Player, because the original Format was not allowed to upload in Wiki-Commons. It was very complicated for me, because I did it the first time and took a few hours).

I want to really ask not to delete my pictures, because I´m very proud of them and are important for the articles, in which they are implemented. If you want an explaination to every single picture, please tell me, I would do. For example "Kammer Chorus Klosterneuburg - Gert Haussner Laute.jpg" I didn´t edit afterwards, I uploaded in the original Version and sat in the first row in a church in Vienna.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunshine76 (talk • contribs) 06:09, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could you upload photos in original resolution with EXIF? This will support your authorship claims.
For videos with music fragment, you need to get permission from composer/author of lyrics/performer. Such permissions are processed via via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates).
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:03, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help! Usually I´m more an author, than a picture/video uploader. I hope, you can help me with a few questions: Photos without EXIF: Some photos are about 10 years old and because of the low harddisc space in these times, I always tried to minimize the pictures. I don´t think, that I have all of the originals, I got another PC in the meantime. If I can´t find the originals, will the Files be deleted? Screenshots from Videos: very important is the photo https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gert_Haussner_2016_Jam_Session_Uferhaus_Klosterneuburg.jpg, which is a Video Screenshot from my Jam Session(the original Video is filmed by my iphone 4) - what should I do with that? Video music fragment: I have the verbal permission from the artist (Gert Haussner) himself - would it help, if he re-uploads the video himelf under his User Name?

Thx!

Verbal permissions could no be verified, so please ask Gert Haussner to send permission to via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates).
I think best way to deal with you photos will be to do the same with Commons:OTRS.
Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:12, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Is it the right way to write in https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons_talk:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Sunshine76&action=edit&redlink=1 the same things, that I wrote to you in our discussion above? And does Gert Haussner has to submit the Mail-permission for all the Photos, where he is on - even if there is EXIF in it? Wouldn´t it be easier, that the photos and video will be deleted by wikipedia and afterwards he uploads them again under his Username as "his own work"?

No, Gert Haussner need to send permission only for videos which contain his music. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:46, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Святые_Варлаам_и_Иоасаф_Индийский_царевич_~_saints_Barlaam_and_Josaphat_prince_of_India.jpg

--Iskatelb 10:03, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:08, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene, This DR slipped through, I didn't see it (new name: File:Somaclonal variation and epigenetics.pdf). I don't see why it could not be on Commons. First, it is not "Purely textual material", there are many graphics included. Second, it is a peer-reviewed publication by a university professor, and it is under a free license. Could you restore it please? Pinging also @P199: . Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:55, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about notability of this publication. Why it could not be on Wikibooks? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:04, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It could be on Wikibooks or Wikisource, but that's one more reason why it also could be on Commons. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:41, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to restore file if you think it in Commons:Project scope. My knowledge of French and medicine is definitely not adequate for task :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:55, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done. Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:12, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review[edit]

Hi you nominated two of my photos for deletion File:Everything Coca Cola Store; Las Vegas, Nevada.jpg and FileM&M World Las Vegas.jpg. I gave a reason protesting the deletion. I was wondering if you could check it and explain more to me if the reason doesn't explain why it should be kept?--TheDoctorWho (talk) 22:00, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think same criteria are applied to statues installed on buldings as to those installed individually. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:51, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The photos are not of statues. There are both photos of buildings. One is an elevator built into the building (the coke bottle) and the other one is a sign built onto the building (the M&M world) --TheDoctorWho (talk) 14:03, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Main subjects of both photos are statues. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:04, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help me further define statue as used here. When I hear statue I think of something like the Statue of Liberty not of a sign and an elevator.--TheDoctorWho (talk) 14:08, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For example, M&M characters and packaging. It's art installed on building. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:09, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary Deletion tag regarding RADAA special forces logo and other Images related to (Libya) and its events post civil war 2011 - 2017 [ ENGLISH ][edit]

Dear sir, you nominated a number of files for Deletion with the request of providing evidence of a written permission from sources to write articles about them on Wikipedia. I want to inform you that foremost, the following files clearly state their sources and ownership. Copyright laws have been respected, and ownership has been clearly marked. As far as i understood, wikipedia is a public encyclopedia. I do not believe that i need a written permission for the use of one image that was publicly released by a news agency, because their copyright statement clearly states that re-distribution or copying is allowed following it does not damage the news agency. Therefore, the context of use of the images are used in conjunction with neutrally detailing events that have taken place within Libya. The image from Libya herald does not contain any logos, has been released to the public, and is allowed according to Libya Herald's copyright statement for use on areas such as wikipedia.

As for Images regarding RADAA special deterrence forces, the images released by this organization does not contain any specific copyright statement, and, the images contain RADAA's logo, which automatically assert ownership.

The following files are :

File:RADAA special forces.jpg. File:Capture of Fahmi Bin Khalifa.jpg File:Anti Sheikh Ghariani posters in Tripoli for his involvement with the Muslim brotherhood.jpg.

I have not claimed ownership of Any of the uploaded images, and sources have been clearly stated, including permission of use, within the scope of the subject of information providing it does not damage any of the stated sources. Therefore, i do not believe that the files should be deleted, as they are within legal framework for re-use for archival purposes.

Please be informed that there is a small number of Libyan people who use Wikipedia, at the very least, i am trying to be as neutral and historically unbiased as can be when it comes to writing articles to atleast, some events here in Libya. Marking the following files, which do not have strong copyright legal backing to a country like ours, that does not have extensive copyright laws, is detrimental to the idea of archiving events as they are. To summarize, these files were released to the public and are allowed to be used within the scope of wikipedia's activities. Biomax20 10:15, 6 September 2017

You claimed that logo is under terms of {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}. Where this statement could be found? Copyrights statements are not required. Fact of work creation is enough. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:56, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Eugene,

I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.

Cheers,

--MB-one (talk) 19:37, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's good idea. If Wikidata has own Conference, why Commons shouldn't have one? :-) But I'm not good organizer :-( --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:52, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Eugene,
Nobody will be force to organize ;-) We would also appreciate, if you show your support for the idea, by signing up as interested.

Mass deletion of 'Personal images'[edit]

Please stop doing this. Mass DRs like this falsely presume images in this category are all out of scope, and it is easy to prove that the category is added to in scope images which are only guilty of being portrait photographs.

If you still believe mass DRs should be used, the category must be applied more strictly against a proper definition, and there has to be a community consensus to use automated methods this way. -- (talk) 05:50, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Krichevsky[edit]

File:NLOWVit0W6KlHekk5Z 3vw=s600.jpg -
EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:49, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know French :-( Owning physical copy doesn't make you owner of copyrights. Some of images may be in public domain, but proper source and license tags should be used. help about your message : Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Fabrication stickers.pdf[edit]

Hello, you recently sent me a message about this file telling me ""While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.""

All of the work, including, models, photography, document, text; bodyparts ;) etc is my own work / property . As there's no templates and what i should add in the file source description exactly ? its my first file upload and i do my best to follow wikimedia rules. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Otoprom (talk • contribs) 15:20, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File history[edit]

Lunch break, with a köfte meal in Tekirdağ

Hi. I asked the uploader, but in the mean time can you also have a look into the history of File:Ahmed Hifzi Pasha.jpg? Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 14:23, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please clarify what is problem with file? If you referred to file name, it'll be better if somebody more knowledgeable in history of Ottoman Empire then me will rename file. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:27, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is: How did this file/image make it to be uploaded with another person's (file's?) name? Dig into the "source" thingy and please see if we had another picture with this name. I feel there's some confusion here. To give you an example (unrelated): Once I uploaded a File:Hamsi tava.jpg but it was not visible in the relevant cat. INC discovered that previously there was another file with the same name and had been deleted and this caused the problem. S/he used his tools (screwdriver, hammer etc :) to make the new file visible in the cat. Too unrelated? I'm saying that files and file names (not renaming them) sometimes get mixed up. Why did this picture end up with one person's name in the info section and another person's name in the title? 007. --E4024 (talk) 14:35, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I looked to history of revisions, but as I wrote already, I'm wrong person for judge who is right: my knowledge of Ottoman Empire history is very limited. There were no other uploads with current name. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maccabi Ironi Ashdod New Logo.png[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko, it's possible to get a simple explanation, why did you delete the logo? it's my work for the football club. and I'm part of the club.Yaakov22 (talk) 16:42, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's not completely your own work, As the logo composed from Maccabi logo which is not under a free licence, And therefor Maccabi Ashdod logo could not be uploaded under free licences too, Although you have created some part of it. You better upload a local copy to the Hebrew Wiki. OmriTalk 17:38, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate if you could restore it or explain how to place it back to the article. I am a newbie here. Thank you --Clearscience (talk) 17:45, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask corporate lawyer to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and file undeletion. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. File:اشتعالات المقاومة والارهاب.pdf still exists, despite your closure of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Akbar fathi in this edit. Please follow through by deleting it.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:12, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. Sorry, I forgot to delete it. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:12, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image: WasteBoards[edit]

Hey Eugene, I saw you nominated two images for the WasteBoards article. Both have not been used on the internet. Can you help me on what I could do to get them on Wikipedia (or another image)? I am a bit lost on the criteria.--Rogier Heijning (talk) 15:26, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Commons:Derivative works. You need permission from author(s) of boards design to freely license such photos. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:17, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

--Shakko (talk) 18:56, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Bug (Vladimir V. Medeyko) 21:19, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 18 October 2017 (UTC)][reply]
Trisection instructions "Should be in SVG if useful"[edit]

Mr. Zelenko: You wrote "Should be in SVG if useful."
Do you want me to save the files in SVG format and then upload the SVG version to Wikimedia Commons?
In regard to the 72˚ trisection file, I searched the Internet for instructions for trisecting a 72˚ angle and I could not find such instructions. So I figured out how to perform the trisection and then I made an image (with instructions) showing how to trisect a 72˚ angle. The construction technique is very economical in the sense that it required the construction of only four arcs (two arcs to construct the apex point of the equilateral triangle and two arcs to fix the locations of the two angle trisection points). Scott Gregory Beach (talk) 18:30, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, w:en:Scalable Vector Graphics is much better format for geometry-related diagrams. I nominated your images, because they were currently unused, so this is good time to replace if you have time to do so. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:06, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
After three tries, I succeeded in uploading a .svg version of the angle trisection file. Now I will work on converting the heptahedron image into .svg format. Scott Gregory Beach (talk) 21:09, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have converted The Great Sethahedron to .svg format. That conversion reduced the file size from 68 KB to 5 KB. That is a significant size reduction so I understand now why Wikimedia prefers the .svg format. And it is probably the best format for geometric constructions. Scott Gregory Beach (talk) 19:07, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your work! SVG format is not only about size, but also because of scaling. Bitmap images will be distorted, especially when enlarged beyond original size. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image Deleted[edit]

Sorry for the TVTropes image. I did not know it would count as advertising. Bauerbach1234 (talk) 00:19, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I know. I will check the licensing more from now on. Bauerbach1234 (talk) 11:23, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When you did screenshot, part of it was occupied by advertisement. Please read Commons:Screenshot. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:26, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Artdirectr...[edit]

File:WFYS2017 logo1-1cmyk3 zincheyev dunaeva.svg -
File:1985-2017 Festival welcome Katia Dunaeva A3.jpg -

Coat of Arms of Brest District, Belarus.png[edit]

Hello, did you actually download File:Coat of Arms of Brest District, Belarus.png from vector-images.com, or did you recreate it yourself? I am sure that files from vector-images.com are not free domain and are subject to copyright. Oh nevermind, it looks like in Belarus, coats of arms cannot be copyrighted? Wikimandia (talk) 16:07, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, municipal coats of arms exempted from copyrights in recent version (2011) of copyrights law. {{PD-BY-exempt}} needs to be updated. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:11, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
File:Work-384745 1920.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Same for Commons:Deletion requests/File:SamanthaRatnam.jpg; I'm contesting that tagging as well. --GRuban (talk) 15:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Structured Commons focus group![edit]

Hello! Thank you very much for signing up to the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

How to organize ourselves?

This focus group is new and experimental, and I welcome your tips and thoughts on how we can organize this in the most convenient and productive way. For now, I have posted a few separate topics on the focus group's talk page. Please add your questions there too! If we all add that page to our watchlist, that's probably a good way to stay up to date with current discussions. Steinsplitter has also initiated a brand new IRC channel specifically for Structured Commons: wikimedia-commons-sd (webchat) which we invite you to join. Please let me know if you have other ideas on how to work together.

Current updates

Warmly, your community liaison, SandraF (WMF) (talk)
