Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 350,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from 36 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012.

Hello, Elisa.rolle!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Natchez pics[edit]

File labelled "Downriver Residential Historic District-409.JPG"

Hi! Thank you for your WLM 2013 photo contributions, including 34 for the Downriver Residential Historic District in Natchez, including the spectacular photo/house at right. Unfortunately, I figured out that the house depicted is in w:Swiss chalet style and figured out that it is mis-identified as being in w:Downriver Residential Historic District, an article i just started to begin to make use of your photos. The house it is fact at 209 S. Broadway in adjacent, spectacular w:Natchez On-Top-of-the-Hill Historic District. I document this more specifically at Talk page for Downriver Residential Historic District. I wonder, could you acknowledge this? And then i worry that others of the 34 uploaded might be misidentified, too. I see these were photographed in 2011, uploaded in 2013, so I can understand misremembering. Anyhow, I am mainly glad that you took and uploaded the pics! Thanks, and I hope you add more. I was already planning to come by and ask if you had pics in other historic areas of Natchez. Do you? :) Cheers, --Doncram (talk) 08:51, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Doncram, I quite remember well where that picture was taken, and it was right in front of the river, I actually took a picture of the plan.
Isn't that the Downriver Historic District? I was thinking the Natchez On-Top-of-the Hill was more or less above Pearl. I will check the pictures I uploaded matching with the boundaries of the various districts. As for other pictures, I uploaded all of them, so if you browse my uploading you can see them.
KR, Elisa
ETA: Dear Docram, I checked:
Downriver Residential Historic District: Roughly bounded by S. Canal St., Orleans St., the Illinois Central railroad tracks, and the bayou between Union and Rankin Sts.
Natchez On-Top-of-the-Hill Historic District: U.S. Routes 61, 84, and 98
Natchez Bluffs and Under-the-Hill Historic District: Bounded by S. Canal St., Broadway, and Mississippi River
The Swiss Chalet is on the block in front of Rosalie Mansion, which is on Orleans St, near the Mississippi River. So I added it to Downriver, but if you think it's better, I will move it to Under the Hill, for sure it's not On Top of the Hill.
KR, Elisa

Photos[edit]

Just realized that you are the same person for Natchez photographs and for Moscow photographs. Funny, during the day I saw the request on the NRHP project in the English Wikipedia and renamed the Natchez photo, and then much later I was categorizing photos for WLM Russia and had to nominate one for deletion. Thanks for uploading the photos, and I hope you do not mind that we had to nominate one of them for deletion. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any problems.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:45, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

E di solito faccio 2 viaggi all'anno sempre paesi diversi quindi chissà, ne avrò altri in future.

--Aubrey (talk) 07:22, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

;-) --Nemo 15:56, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ymblanter, are those municipalities you have photos of? :) The bigger they are, the harder it is. :( --Nemo 17:12, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was too lazy to check the others. Only my photos from 2013. Barga is pretty small.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:16, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, I do not have hundreds of those - may be several dozens for every municipality, largely overlapping with what we already have on Commons.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:24, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about finding the numbers, I'm quite good at that part (while I'm not a very good "seller"). Can't promise anything but if I'm in the right mood who knows. ;) --Nemo 18:12, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

;-)--Threecharlie (talk) 17:44, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture descriptions[edit]

You seem to have uploaded several pictures with only the description: "English: Queer Places, Vol. 1.2: Retracing the Steps of LGBTQ people around the World Authored by Elisa Rolle

ISBN-13: 978-1544066585 (CreateSpace-Assigned) ISBN-10: 1544066589"

There should be a description of what is in the image, when and where it was taken. That sort of thing which is helpful to other people to find to reuse the images. Also the one I checked had no categories added - another system we use to find useful images. Rmhermen (talk) 02:22, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File naming[edit]

Hi Elisa, and thanks for your uploads! These are nice images and useful, but please could you try in future to use much more specific file names, and to make sure that the names have more than a passing/tangential connection to what is in the images? For example, File:William Moorcroft (potter).jpg certainly doesn't sound like a file name that would automatically be associated with a shot of his second wife's wedding dress. I have requested renames for almost all your uploads from the wedding dress exhibition, which is rather time-consuming, so please could you be more careful in future when assigning file names and uploading? Thanks so much. Mabalu (talk) 10:58, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Elisa, I am trying to be more active here in the Commons, so let me know whenever if there is any work that I can do :-) Thank you so much. Alex Shih (talk) 04:03, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Shih, please have a look to this DR: [1], I explained the reason to put the DR is wrong they are under PD-1923, and also in the Tag Page of RITA MARTIN is explained that picture before 1923 can be uploaded in English Wikipedia. But sincerely, as you know, I'm not in the mood to deal with this right now. So if the community decides to delete them, up to the community to decide. I will not follow it anymore. --Elisa Rolle 12:56, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Concorso Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2018 (English version)

Grazie, Nemo 16:04, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dates for historical photos[edit]

Hi, File:Armenia S. White.jpg is a bit confusing: 1881 or 1887? I assume it's a copy and paste error. It's often useful to include a link to the full scan, if existing: is it https://archive.org/details/historyofwomansu01stan ? Nemo 08:43, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nemo, the category is History of Women Suffrage (1881) which is indeed the first year it was published, but I scanned it from a copy on Archive.org dated 1887. The scans are from Vol 1, 2 and 3 (your link is just vol 1). To avoid trouble (I don't know if in the 1881 edition the engraving was there or not) I preferred to use the date of the copy I was scanning. Elisa Rolle 08:47, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019[edit]

Bonjour,

Please properly use the "source" field[edit]

Hi Elisa.rolle,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons! It looks like a file you uploaded to Commons has an invalid entry indicated for its "Source" on File:Edward Robbins (Teddy) Wharton.jpg. It is important that the |Source= field, which is the record of where a file came from, be accurate and as machine-readable as possible so that others can verify its license and be able to reuse the file under the correct terms. For example, sources such as "Me", "Self" or "My camera" should be replaced with the template Own; sources such as "Google", "The Internet", etc. are not considered valid and may result in deletion of the file. If you did not generate the file yourself, then you may want to revisit the file and be as specific as you can in identifying your source: ideally, this might be a stable link to the exact webpage that the image or file came from, or perhaps the title, year, and page number of the book where you found it (a link to a website in general is not usually considered specific enough, nor is simply restating the name of the author). For guidance on indicating your source please visit the page COM:SOURCE. In this instance I have changed it for you [Edward Robbins (Teddy) Wharton.jpg here].
