File talk:Porträt Robert Hunger-Bühler DSC00039.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file talk, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

.js user subpages

Hi, I saw that you cascade-protected User:Green Giant/closecfd.js and User:Green Giant/common.js with the reason "For account safety". I was curious about this, because user .js pages are only editable by the user and admins anyway, and cascading won't work across importScript. Or does it have some other side-effect? Guanaco (talk) 20:32, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

I’ve emailed you about it. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 23:25, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

catching up with old discussions

I hope you received my email for the other id (which I primarily use for on-wiki work) and yes, File:WLL Subtitled Logo (transparent).svg ended up being used without attribution.
acagastya 21:00, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

@Acagastya: If you mean the one from 20 July, yes, I received that. I havent replied yet because I have been off-wiki for personal reasons. I’m probably going to be back to normal speed in a couple of days. There’s not much more you can do about the logo use but at least you tried. Green Giant (talk) 09:15, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
Hah, I can imagine you making a meme for me: Bart Simpson has a cake saying "At least you tried". I will be travelling tomorrow, and the college starts the day. I could not reach the target, but let's see what I can do. The time table is out, I would send you later. So let's plan according, then! (why do I feel that I forgot to tell something?)

Global lock evasion

Hi. You globally locked Vote (X) for Change, Vote LAX For Change, and Miletian; do you think the person behind them is welcome to edit on any WMF project?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 04:38, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Those accounts were locked on request by other users. I have no interest in the person(s) behind them (primarily because they don’t affect my real life in any way). Your message on the IP talkpage was your own choice of words and should be interpreted by other users with good faith in mind, irrespective of whether there is an AGF policy here or not. Nonetheless, if I were not a sysop, I would not have engaged with said IP in this manner, except to report unacceptable behaviour at the admin boards and revert disruptive edits where possible. I’m not inclined to get involved in the disagreement you have with Incnis except to say we should always try to maintain as polite and collegiate an atmosphere as possible other bona fide users. I have had many disagreements with other users but I’ve never let it get in the way of useful wiki activities. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 21:57, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

I’m afraid you’ve made an error here. The deletion nomination was for the file redirect at File:USGS Stretch duck 7 recovery.jpg but you deleted the actual file and left the redirect in place. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:55, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

@Beeblebrox: Sincere apologies. I’ve reversed the situation. Thank you for letting me know. Green Giant (talk) 08:10, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Well, I’m the one who created this confusing situation, so thanks for helping clean it up! Beeblebrox (talk) 17:55, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

500 bot like edits?

manually you mean? I'm sure I had 500 manual edits somewhere, but Idk. I'll make 500 edits. Tyler de Noche (talk) 17:42, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

and now, Im sure I have 500 non-bot like edits. So can I apply for autopatrol now? Tyler de Noche (talk) 22:13, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

OO Thanks so much. :) mind if I ask, can I also add it to Tyler ser Noche? Tyler de Noche (talk) 23:33, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Yes, if you slow down the upload rate and confirm you are actively checking for errors (a few examples using diffs would help). Green Giant (talk) 23:35, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
yeah i'll take it slow at a time. I'll check everytime when I upload an album. one example I could do is [1], [2], and [3] This.

This I admit, I rather upload an album, and then go through them. to put finalizing touches.

Aisde from that, I am adding categories to files such as 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

That. Tyler de Noche (talk) 23:47, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

@Tyler de Noche: I’ve made your other account autopatrolled. Please do keep fixing errors before uploading more files. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 00:26, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

  • фотографії пам'яток, для яких на момент початку конкурсу (відповідно до відомої Організаційному комітету інформації) не було жодної ілюстрації на Вікісховищі або у Вікіпедії, отримують коефіцієнт рівний 7 (для кожної пам'ятки);
  • фотографії автоматично вантажаться у категорію, яка бере учать у номінації за найбільшу кількість сфотографованих об'єктів, для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації за найкраще фото потрібно вибрати необхідні налаштування у завантажувачі;

Undeletion Request

hello Mr. Green Giant, I am writing to ask you when you will proceed to start reproaching some files deleted in the past, now it's been a while since I last got in touch with you, do you think finally?, you remember yourself told me to wait a while--82.50.38.56 16:36, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The bulk of sysops ignored me (and Guanaco) here and there… hence we see predictable effects. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 19:56, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, you added {{OTRS received}} to this image, but forgot to add a license template. I renewed the mising license tag now. Can you have another look pls. Thx. --JuTa 09:59, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

@JuTa: - cheers, I cannot recall if I checked there was a license in OTRS. I’ve deleted it as potential fair use image. Green Giant (talk) 17:18, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, You deleted the above file for not having an appropriate licence - this was an oversight. The licence should be Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. Could you please add this licence and restore the file. regards Andrea Sander (talk) 12:22, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

@Andrea Sander: restored and license added per request. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 07:01, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Obenreder One

Regarding this, what else needs to be done? I'm so tired of trying to keep it here. -- Jim26 (talk) 21:11, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

@Jim26: The main issue with the photo is that Commons needs an unambiguous license from the photographer. The email that has been sent to Wikimedia is not from an email address that would give us confidence that it is from the photographer. I’ve sent a reply outlining what we need. As it stands the photo has a 30-day reprieve for the photographer to reply. If it is deleted and the permission is received later, it can be easily restored.
A smaller issue is that you have uploaded only part of the photo that can be seen at Flickr. This can be fixed after the license is sorted out. Green Giant (talk) 23:04, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
I saw the e-mail. Thanks for your effort. -- Jim26 (talk) 02:24, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Is there a way to keep the cropped version on this wiki? As I recall, the owner gave permission for that as well, and, frankly, I cropped it because the close-up looks better in an article. -- Jim26 (talk) 14:24, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
@Jim26: Yes, we can keep both. I’ve moved the larger photo to a separate File:Morgan Obenreder.jpg. Green Giant (talk) 20:58, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. -- Jim26 (talk) 10:24, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Image deleted?

Hi. Newbie here. I took this picture and uploaded it (File:San Francisco Comfort Women Statue.jpg) and linked it to "Comfort Women" page. But the photo file has been deleted and the reference from the page to the picture has been removed. What do I need to do to have this fixed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by GtDX8NNO3Efn2oF6q0s3 (talk • contribs) 04:29, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

@GtDX8NNO3Efn2oF6q0s3: I deleted it because there is no freedom of panorama for outside sculptures in the United States. You can take photos of it for personal use, but you can’t publish the photo without permission from the sculptor. The photo needs two licenses - one from the photographer and one from the person who created the sculpture. In order to restore it, you will need to ask the sculptor to read COM:OTRS and send us a license to reuse the photo of the work. Green Giant (talk) 04:39, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

I see. I found a similar picture File:San_Francisco_"Comfort_Women"_Column_of_Strength_.jpg which is referenced on a different page. Does this mean this person got the sculpture's permission and sent that to Wiki? — Preceding unsigned comment added by GtDX8NNO3Efn2oF6q0s3 (talk • contribs) 04:48, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out. I have searched our email archives and did not find any permission. The file has been nominated for deletion by another user and will be processed in due time. Green Giant (talk) 06:47, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Sorry. I'm the author of the photographs. I didn't understand your deletion. Sorry, i'm not an usual user of Commons, so I don't know if I did something wrong with the procedures. It is probable that you thought it was a collage made by photographs made by someone other than me. But they were entirely photos made by me. Since I didn't remember the password of my previous account, I created a new one. Sorry, if you know how to, please delete the first one. I hope you will answer to this message. I think I'm going to upload the file again in the next days, under this new account name. I will try to be more precise about the attribution. Thank you for your work. Bye. Fotocanzo2 (talk) 09:32, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

  • Sorry. It's me again. I found a file in which I saved the password. Lol. I've read the message on my message page (about the proposal of deletion), I'm not sure I've understood. Is the problem the fact that I took a picture of art works? But they are old villas and their copyright is surely exstinguished. Please tell me if I have to precise that in future download. Thank you. Sorry! Fotocanzo (talk) 09:46, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
@Fotocanzo: Hello. The issue was that the source photos need to be confirmed as being licensed or in the public domain. I have restored the file and started a deletion request to allow a full discussion. I recommend that you comment there. Green Giant (talk) 14:09, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Green Giant, I understand why you converted this into a deletion request but this will be challenging without a little bit help of the uploader. So far, all attempts to open a line of communication with the uploader were not successful. I had asked User:Grin, an admin and native speaker of Hungarian, for help but to no avail so far. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 06:47, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

@AFBorchert: Thank you for the message. I see the difficulty you have described but I think it is worth having the opportunity for discussion, even if the uploader does not engage. If they were claiming these files as their own work and not communicating, then I might be tempted to try a block to get them to talk or not upload at all but I don’t think this user warrants that yet. Perhaps if we could get consensus between a number of administrators about what approach to take, but until then we can only keep trying to talk to the uploader. Green Giant (talk) 11:13, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

confirm

Did you confirm that the source and creator were added later when deleting?--Hirewean (talk) 02:56, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

@Hirewean: My apologies. I should have been more careful. I have restored the files. Green Giant (talk) 07:13, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi! You forgot to delete this file. --Regasterios (talk) 08:33, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

@Regasterios: Done. Not sure why I didn’t delete it but cheers for letting me know. Green Giant (talk) 12:05, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Could you undelete this file: File:Edoardo Salmeri .jpg ? A proper agreement has been received to OTRS: ticket:2019053110004447. Cheers, Polimerek (talk) 13:24, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

@Polimerek: ✓ Done. Could you remove the extra space in the file name after Salmeri? Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Redirect question

Hi,

I wasn't aware of the convention that redirects were kept for files that were under a different name for a long time. Sorry about that.

But is it okay to remove redirects for files which were renamed immediately i.e. only a few minutes after upload? ElshadK (talk) 18:25, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@ElshadK: Yes it is a long-standing convention - see Help:File redirect. It is acceptable to remove redirects up to seven days after upload because that is the normal timescale we permit uploaders to request file deletion without having to give a reason. Green Giant (talk) 18:30, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
OK thanks ElshadK (talk) 18:33, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Карта Византийской Армении

Здравствуйте! Вы удалили карту Византийской Армении, однако на источник есть лицензия CC-BY. Я помню, что указал это. Возможно, я как-то неправильно провел процедуру? Прошу помочь разобраться. Davidgasparyan2001 (talk) 18:16, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

@Davidgasparyan2001: Hello. You did put CC-BY but without a version number it is meaningless. You have to add a version number e.g. {{Cc-by-4.0}}. I have restored the file, so you can do this. —Green Giant (talk) 18:43, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
I've added a license with version number. Is all right? Can I use the map? --Davidgasparyan2001 (talk) 20:06, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
I’m not entirely convinced the source document is licensed. I have created a Deletion Request, linked from the file page. Please explain there why the source is free. -Green Giant (talk) 22:07, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
@Green Giant: I'm novice here; could you help me to correct my mistakes? That's source I've taken the map from: https://cyberleninka.ru/article/n/administrativno-politicheskaya-karta-vizantiyskoy-armenii-v-vi-veke . The article is signed as licensed (if you open the site, you can see it above).--Davidgasparyan2001 (talk) 11:01, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

Keeping redirects

All of the links to the file across ALL Wikimedia projects were corrected to the current location, so there is no need for you reverting the file move to keep the redirect. There's nothing that uses the old link anymore. ···日本穣Talk to Nihonjoe 19:32, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

@Nihonjoe: it is a long-standing convention on Commons - please see Help:File redirect. -Green Giant (talk) 19:39, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
Well then fix the move scripts. They are the ones doing that. I only process the move requests. ···日本穣Talk to Nihonjoe 20:25, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
You'll have to ask the script maintainers for that. I wasn’t criticising your edit - it was just simpler to undo it. —Green Giant (talk) 20:29, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

refus photos

Merci louidomique--Louidomique (talk) 15:59, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

@Louidomique: - the files were deleted because:
  • there was no license in either file page;
  • the statements you sent were unacceptable - please read COM:OTRS for an example;
  • a reply was sent by an OTRS agent but it was returned because your email address was not found.
@AntonierCH: please could you help explain in French if needed? -Green Giant (talk) 18:47, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
@Louidomique:  : Nous n'avons pas réussi a vous rejoindre par retour de courriel.   • у номінації «Найкраще фото» — файли повинні мати не менше 4 МПкс;
  • у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» — оцінка фотографії пам'ятки складається із суми базового та додаткових балів (в останній враховується чи ця пам'ятка вже фотографувалася іншими авторами та скільки фотографій пам'яток уже є з цього населеного пункту);

Нагадаємо, що фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Hello. This file is now obsolete flag of town Grodków and should be replaced by File:POL Grodków flag.svg. Also this file was not named according to the convention (name of the town should be capitalized and diacritics should be used). However blanking of the page was my mistake - I would like to keep this file under the name POL Grodków flag old.svg, for one article. Best wishes Avalokitesvara (talk) 07:59, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

@Avalokitesvara: I understand but the file should only be renamed according to the guidelines at COM:FR. You will need to replace the old file with the new one at each article it is used on i.e. at the individual wikis rather than at Commons. Green Giant (talk) 12:25, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

editToken

Hello Green Giant. I just wanted to let you know that editToken is deprecated, and you still use it in one or more of your userspace scripts. If you want your user script(s) to work properly, please replace editToken with csrfToken in source code of the scripts. You'll need to change the following script(s):

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by MirandaAdramin

Some images were undelete from Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by MirandaAdramin. Do they have an OTRS ticket, or not? I don't understand french so I have no idea what they are talking about.
If it has we should add {{PermissionOTRS}} to the file pages --D-Kuru (talk) 09:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Yes, it seems the ticket has been processed as accepting the license statement. @AntonierCH: please could you modify these file pages as appropriate. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 19:34, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
This is an old case, but pictures from the first deletion requests were deleted despite receiving an OTRS autorisation. Did I not flagged them? Could you check? (example: File:Cité design Entrée Biennale Tunnel Ruban Est.jpg) AntonierCH (d) 20:52, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
To be more precise :
a) I do not see the undeleted pictures that you mention, D-Kuru. It seems that the one named with "cartonnage" (like File:Cartonnages stéphanois 04.jpg) were never deleted depsite the lack of OTRS permission.
b) The files from the first request named with "cité design" (like File:Cité design Entrée Biennale Tunnel Ruban Est.jpg) did receive a valid permission via ticket:2019041510005611. Did I forget to add the template or were they deleted despite the template, Green Giant?
Thank you both for your precisions AntonierCH (d) 20:57, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
I came across these images while looking through unprocessed images in Deletion requests April 2019. As I said, I don't speak french so I don't understand the text. In France there is no FOP for anything. So these images should actually be deleted unless we have a permission by the orignal author. Which is highly unlikely in my opinion considering that it's graffiti (that is why I was curious about the OTRS permission).
The top images only had {{OTRS received}}, but no ticket template. Last edit was by @Jcb: on 2019-05-17. The image was deleted on 2019-06-01. The bottom images have no template at all. Because I can't see the OTRS ticket, I can not check which images have a ticket and if some should be deleted.
--D-Kuru (talk) 08:57, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Those file have a valid permission, D-Kuru:
Could you restore them please or should I use the normal undeletion process?
The other files have no permission as far as I know. AntonierCH (d) 11:07, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
I restored all listed images, removed {{Delete}} and added {{Kept}} to the file talk page. Please add the OTRS template as soon as possible to avoid further deletion requests.
What about the other images that seem to not have an OTRS ticket? In my opinion they have to be deleted. Or is there an OTRS ticket for them as well?
--D-Kuru (talk) 19:05, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
@AntonierCH: @Green Giant: So, what about the other images now? If you want we can open a new deletion request. --D-Kuru (talk) 17:21, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
They should have been deleted in my opinion. AntonierCH (d) 17:44, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
✓ Done --D-Kuru (talk) 23:41, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Please undelete, File:MASERATI LEVANTE SUV de face.jpg & File:MASERATI LEVANTE SUV.jpg & File:Clio 4 - avant.jpg, they were not nominated for deletion.

You could speedy the files they uploaded only hours after the nomination, and consider blocking. But not indef, as not all uploads are bad.--BevinKacon (talk) 15:08, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

@BevinKacon: restored but please list such files separately from the files to be deleted. Green Giant (talk) 16:33, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

According to the Precautionary principle: where there is significant doubt about the freedom of a particular file, it should be deleted. And like I said in the closed discussions I really and honestly don't see any significant doubt about the freedom of the deleted files. It looks like for anonymous pictures taken in USA or some others countries before 1945 (the end of WWII) there can be still highly possible, that the author is known, died less than 70 years ago (or still allive) and his/her heirs can sue for his/her rights. So the probability to harm the project is really high. But for the former Soviet Union the situation is quite different, because of mass political repressions, huge famine, incredibly high casualties in WWII, low (much lower than in USA) standard of living and so much shorter life expectancy. I assume that your approach was formal, so I ask you to reconsider your decisions, because deletion (absence) of some old anonymous pictures that are freely published in other trusted projects and medias will only reduce the popularity of Wikimedia and, thus, harm the project. --Kazimier Lachnovič (talk) 15:06, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

@Kazimier Lachnovič: Thank you for the message. I understand your concerns about these files. Although I don’t always mention it in closing requests, I try to see what evidence is presented by those supporting keeping the file(s). This follows the principle at COM:EVID. I interpret that policy as requiring direct evidence rather than the indirect evidence you have given. I have also seen that there has recently been an increase in the number of people who question the level of doubt needed for COM:PRP. Significant doubt about copyright does not mean overwhelming doubt about the copyright status. If a nominator has given a reasonable explanation for why a file should be deleted, that in itself is significant doubt in the sense of that policy. In both cases the discussion has been longer than most deletion requests, and at the end I felt that the case had not been fully made for keeping the files. That does not mean you had no valid arguments but that I felt the balance was in favour of deletion as a precaution. If however, more evidence is provided to support restoration then I am always open to reversing my decision. To clarify I do not subscribe to the formal approach but an evaluative approach. I hope they clarifies my decisions. Green Giant (talk) 17:25, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

Undeletion Request

hi Green Giant, I would have some PD license files to restore, once you told me you were available if it was PD licenses, now you would be willing to do me this favor???--2.44.223.104 19:16, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

File:Kargil war.jpg

Hello there. I see you first deleted and then restored File:Kargil war.jpg. Shouldn't the file's talk page be also restored? —Sarvatra (talk) 00:09, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

@Sarvatra: ✓ Done My mistake. Thank you for pointing that out. -- 07:29, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Silver Peak

There was no consensus. Please restore the page. Evrik (talk) 21:47, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

@Evrik: Please read my deletion reason:
  • The last version of the page was an inter-wiki disambiguation page with links to other wikis rather than a Commons dab page. We can have appropriate inter wiki links but what the page had was less about disambiguation between Commons pages and more about other pages elsewhere. There were four links to WikiData, two links to English Wikipedia, three external links, four links to Commons galleries and sixteen red links leading nowhere. This has been pretty much the situation since you started this page in 2016, although you appear to have resisted several edits by other users.
  • Have a look at Special:WhatLinksHere/Silver Peak - the only pages currently linking to the deleted page are user talk pages and the deletion request. There is no urgent need for this page that cannot be fulfilled by the note at the top of the category page.
If you wish, you can request undeletion at COM:UDR but as it stands I do not see a sufficient reason to restore the page. --Green Giant (talk) 22:26, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
@Evrik: Actually, I’ve reconsidered and restored the page but with significantly reduced content to that which is relevant to Commons, per COM:SCOPE. I am going keep an eye on this page and I ask you to keep the page focussed on Commons. If I find it returning to hosting external links and interwikis I will intervene and remove such content. --Green Giant (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Please undelete

Hello Green Giant! Please undelete File: Часовня во имя святого Николая на истоке Западной Двины 2.jpg. CC-BY-SA 3.0, 2020011610003463. Thanks!—Iluvatar (talk) 19:54, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

NSF

Hi, I had never heard of NSF until I saw this media on twitter. I checked it there is a template on wmc for the PD license, which existed. But I have a gut feeling I might have screwed up somewhere. Could you please double check if the file is okay, and can be kept here. Thanks!
acagastya 03:19, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

This link says it is under CC BY 4.0. But then NSO's website does not even have .gov, and would not fall under US-GOV. I think I would be avoiding these sources till I understand them correctly.

"LTA sock" continues

I also need to request to lock these accounts globally because they are a soockpuppets of a serial vandal abusing from different wikis. I was going to request this from meta wiki but I got prevented from editing. So do globally lock these accounts, also lock the two accounts abusing from english wiki requested from meta wiki. Thanks. 182.68.155.38 07:24, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

What’s the urgency? None of these have been used since 2017. -Green Giant (talk) 07:31, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
They are socks of a serial vandal, probably Hunnas334, so please globally lock all of the nine users as LTA. 182.68.155.38 11:02, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
Did you lock those nine accounts? Please do so. 117.97.135.4 06:56, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
No. I’m not going to lock them unless there is an urgent reason. -Green Giant (talk) 13:37, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
Oshwah (v a n d a l i s m) (talk · contribs · logs · block log) got globally locked after more than one or two years from creation as Long-term abuse. So globally lock these nine accounts also as Long-term abuse. 117.97.144.87 14:55, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
That's not an urgent reason. There are many accounts that would have qualified for locking but weee not at the relevant time and are now abandoned but that doesn’t mean we should scour the history of the wikis for stale locks to perform. Feel free to ask another steward but I’m not going to do it unless there is an urgent reason for doing so. -Green Giant (talk) 15:23, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

Updating flag

Hi again. Could you do the same with File:Dannebrogen.svg and File:Flag of Denmark.svg as you did with the other flag i uploaded? It would be helpful. Thanks, – GeMet [talk] 00:48, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

@GeMet: ✓ Done -Green Giant (talk) 21:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! Do you know where i can request updates on protected files (except here, haha)? Is it just me, or did the protection from the danish flag go away? – GeMet [talk] 22:23, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@GeMet: I’ve restored the protection. It happens because the moving procedure deletes the existing file. The only ways of requesting updates is either the file talk page or an administrator. I suppose we should have a board for such requests but it’s unlikely to happen. -Green Giant (talk) 22:28, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Missing metadata

Hello, Green Giant. I hope you are doing all right. I had conducted two interviews last month, and I have uploaded them here. I recorded the audio on my phone, and it was saved as .m4a file. That extension is not supported here, so I converted them to .flac. However, the file now does not show metadata. Should I be concerned? Do I need to keep the original file lest it was nominated for deletion?

Опитування щодо «Вікі любить Землю» 2020 / Wiki Loves Earth 2020 in Ukraine Survey

English version below

--AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (обговорення) 20:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi! You are getting this message because you have participated in Wiki Loves Earth in Ukraine before.

Organizers of the contest are holding a survey for participants to decide on whether to hold the contest this year — and when to do it. It seems that holding Ukrainian Wiki Loves Earth within traditional dates in May would not be reasonable because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, we can hold the contest in June or July. To decide, we need your opinion.

More info and the survey can be found by this link. The survey will be open by April 14th.

If you have any questions, contact us at wle@wikimedia.org.ua. Thanks! --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (обговорення) 20:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Green Giant: ,
Potential concerns about CC BY on YouTube

Hi. I noticed this file comes from YouTube, under a CC BY license. It is uploaded by Times of India. But those individual clips are very likely obtained by the media via instant messengers like WhatsApp. Someone makes the video, they circulate it, and news orgs take it under fair use. Here, they have gone a step further and labeled it under CC BY 3.0. What should one do in that case?
acagastya 21:34, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

@Acagastya: This is a tough one. If you can find the separate clips on social media, then please nominate the file for regular deletion. Although the official line is that the burden of proof lies with those users wanting to keep a file, there has to be some evidence of why it is unfree before you nominate it. I find this to be a thankless task because sometimes it means trawling through hellish places like Facebook. However, I would suggest doing a google search first and check the video tab (if a clip is not in the first couple of pages, it’s probably not there at all). I would recommend looking through YouTube and Flickr next, followed by Facebook. The problem is which media to look at after that because Whatsapp is going to be impossible to search unless someone forwards the video to you. Instagram is a mess and best not searched if you want to stay sane. In fact if you’ve got to Facebook and not found anything, it is probably best to shrug your shoulders and accept the file is going to stay. --Green Giant (talk) 02:16, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
Same clip at around 0:42 by CNN. link. And almost the continuation of one of the shots: link. And another. The fact that a clip with no hovering text exists indicates ToI got the clip from somewhere else, and are not the author. (See, more)
acagastya 02:29, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
@Acagastya: I think that is more than sufficient evidence to cast doubt on the TOI license. Please nominate it for deletion with these links as evidence. --Green Giant (talk) 02:39, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Did that right after my previous edit.  :-D
acagastya 02:40, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello! The photo was taken in 1910 and the author died a long time ago. Let me take a photo?--Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 15:13, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

@Takhirgeran Umar: I have restored the file. The burden of proof lies with you. I could see no evidence of the age of the image, partly because the source website was not loading. Please add a license tag immediately. If there is no license tag added in the next 24 hours, I will delete the file again. --Green Giant (talk) 16:56, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
The year of shooting, look at the photo in the corner is 1915. The author is not indicated in the sources. So okay? --Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 17:48, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Hmm... to be honest I thought that said 12-15 but on second thoughts I’ll accept your assertion. I’ve changed the tag to a more appropriate one based on this. --Green Giant (talk) 18:14, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much!--Takhirgeran Umar (talk) 18:18, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
