Editor adding copyvio

User:Starship9000 added a number of pictures that are clearly copyvio claiming own work. I don't know if they should all be deleted or if just the obvious ones should until it can be clear that he understands what "own work" means. There's also an issue with File:Diamondbacksign.jpg which would probably be a derivative work, even if it was taken by him. I left a note on his talk page, there's also a discussion at [1]Ryan Vesey Review me! 16:17, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

  • There are only fice images, and the case for copyvio isn't prima facie, so I might just send all five to DR and make the case there. Single DR's to cover one account's uploads are fairly common in cases like this, where copyvio is strongly suspected but not proven. (I did delete one unambiguous copyvio)Courcelles 18:05, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Merci…

pour la rapidité des renommages, et désolé pour le travail supplémentaire, mais je veux aller trop vite. Cordialement, --Claude Truong-Ngoc (talk) 21:03, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Renaming

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Paderewskiego_17.JPG - it seems to be the same in the original and the rename - fyi :) SatuSuro (talk) 03:09, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Hmm? The rename added a word, which I think was the point, to distinguish what this was in Polish? Courcelles 03:23, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
    • ok - apologies - it is just when I looked at it I thought it was exactly the same - with no added word - perception problem on my part when looking at the rename template box - I see you have fixed it anyways cheers- SatuSuro (talk) 05:19, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

My Argentine road signs

Ok, you wanted to fight me about renaming File:Senate Seal.svg to File:Seal of the United States Senate.svg because that name was meaningless and non-distinctive, but now you rename all my signs for essentially the same reasoning? My my, you change your mind fast on what is a valid reasoning for renaming. I'm not opposed to the rename, but it is not any more valid than my reasoning to rename that file I linked. Renaming German CoAs

Hello - I wonder wether there was another discussion, agreement, guideline or something similar that desribes the name format for German coat of arms files and the procedures how to deal with old files that do not comply with those standards. The only question regarding this subject i found.--maxxl2   - talk 21:55, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

I really do appreciate your iniative and wanted to help as there are a few thousand German COA images to be renamed, classified and categorized. As you will have menbtioned before i am busy with categorizing atm and hope to achieve a proper sort order within the categories soon. Renaming would be the the first choice. Mainly i would prefer to rename the SVG-images: DEU xxx COA. Raster images i would ignore for the time beeing. Is that acceptable for you? --maxxl2   - talk 12:01, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
WEll, yeah, that works for me. Though the raster images are movable in the sense that it does no harm to do so, and does increase organisation and make it easier for other users who are more in-tune with local policies on the projects to move to SVG's if they so choose. (SOrry, I've been on the road, and haven't had much time or chance to check Commons the last few days.) Courcelles 04:48, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Move thanks

Thank you very much for this. It's a very slight bee I have in my bonnet ... thanks for putting this one right. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 10:01, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Rename template...

Hello! You recently renamed the file File:Ford Focus as a Road Point Service car.jpg. But somehow the rename template was not removed. Just thought of informing you. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:48, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Actually i had to take down that template from many of the images you moved. In case there was some problem in the bot, please report it. Or please be careful with your next moves. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:59, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
See MediaWiki talk:Gadget-AjaxQuickDelete.js/auto-errors. Something is funky with the API tonight, it seems. Courcelles 05:00, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

You may remove Help me the File is? Because it is the problem.

  • The file ha been nominated for deletion. hat discussion could use a bit more participation before being closed, but what would you like me to help you with? Courcelles 01:58, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Moved categories

Hi. When you have moved any category, please don't forget to redirect the original category. It's clearly wrong to keep it empty without any link or explanation. --ŠJů (talk) 09:23, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Boletus pseudosulphureus 165304.jpg

Hi, you've renamed the file back to Boletus pseudosulphureus 165304.jpg with explanation: Consensus at Mushroom Observer site says this is the correct name, not Boletus luridus var primulicolor, a species known only from Europe. There's no consensus at Mushroom Observer, maybe with the exception, that this cannot be Boletus pseudosulphureus (which in fact has smooth stem, while the pictured example shows clear reticulum). I believe it would be better to rename the file to something like "Unknown Boletus…" to prevent further confusion. Could you accomplish it, please? Thanks in advance. --Xth-Floor (talk) 14:59, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

File renaming error

It appears that an error occurred with this edit, a file renaming that you carried out. Take a look at the page history, and you will see that I requested renaming from File:Cxx 0156-III.jpg (a meaningless name) to a proper name, and that was carried out, but then Michael 1988 improperly tagged the file for renaming back to its original name, which was the meaningless version. That second renaming, back to the original name, should not have been made. Please correct this. Steve Morgan (talk) 09:19, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Well, looking a the image, I can see where the original name is coming from -- the bus's number and an abbreviation for the service. The fact the uploader apparently prefers the original name would incline me to leave it where it currently lives, though I really don't care if you want to move it back. Batch renaming

Hi Courcelles, is it possible to rename all files of with the pattern File:Die Gartenlaube (1873) pic *.JPG to File:Die Gartenlaube (1873) b *.jpg? This is the accepted scheme of pictures in the Gartenlaube in Wikisource. (https://de.wikisource.org/wiki/Gartenlaube). --Arnd (talk) 22:10, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Actually, the Gartenlaube contain hundreds of pictures. Only a few do not follow the naming convention. --Arnd (talk) 23:02, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

organizing my images.

Hi Courcelles,

I uploaded This photo, which afterward Rabanus Flavus rotated and cropped (here's the edited image). So now there are two very similar files on commons. Would it be possible to switch my file with his (So the edited file will be under the name of "Knesset Menorah Shema Inscription") and delete the redundant photo?

Thanks, --SuperJew (talk) 15:00, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

a heads-up

In 2011 you participated in Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jcb_(de-adminship 2). That discussion ended with User:Jcb losing his administrator privileges.

This note is to inform you that User:Odder proposed Jcb have unconconditional access to administrator privileges restored.

Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jcb (readmin) is scheduled to close on May 20th.

Cheers Geo Swan (talk) 23:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Courcelles,

Can you tell me what was the renaming reason? Geagea (talk) 21:29, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

What I got out of the request, and I admit I don't speak the language it was in, was that the long name (rendered in unicode) was causing problems using the image. Courcelles 21:38, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
It is not "misleading" and no problem with the "unicode". I an not blaming you. I see alot trigger-happy in renaming. The name is in Georgian language and I am sure you know Commons:File renaming#Which files should not be renamed? - there's no reason to favor English over other languages. I will rename it back as author request. I'm sorry to have bothered you. Geagea (talk) 21:48, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Sofftitto --> Soffritto

Thanks for renaming!--F Ceragioli (talk) 21:16, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

This file had been labelled as being copyvio as I had disputed that it was simply geometric shapes and that it was lacking in copyrightable design elements. I had said to the person that they shouldn't remove the copyvio aspects, and that it wouldn't be moved while it was under review. They again removed the copyvio and then you have moved it, so I will now leave it with you to work out what to do with it.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:53, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Ugh, I must admit I didn't check the history, just that the person requesting the rename was the uploader... These PD-Text issues are best settled at DR, so, I'll just open one, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Logo Alternativa Galega de Esquerda.png. (That said, I don't thin this is complex enough to be an issue, and I'm usually fairly ready to delete for threshold of originality issues) Courcelles 05:30, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

thank you

Thank you. Thanks for renaming the file. --Tokorokoko (talk) 06:19, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

File:Scorpaena scrofa3

Thank you for renaming the file :) I've seen that the file is linked in many pages in several project, probably referring in many cases to the wrong species Scorpaena porcus. Maybe is better to check these pages and put photos of real S. porcus. Do you agree? Could a bot do this job for us? Thank you for the answer and sorry for my bad english :)--Etrusko25 (talk) 20:15, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Good idea, but a bot can't do that, and neither can I (I'm very busy today and tomorrow) You should be able to complete the task, though. Courcelles 18:48, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
✓ Done--Etrusko25 (talk) 19:08, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
File:Dynamo Bryansk 30th.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

We didn't really need a DR for a redirect left over after a file move, did we? Courcelles 04:58, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for uploading [File: Babi_rossi_panicat.jpg]

Hi, I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused by uploading the image Babi_rossi_panicat.jpg. Actually I am well aware about Wikpedia's copyright policies and always try to follow them. What happened with this particular image was a misunderstanding. I found the image from this page - [2] At the below it's given that the contents are licensed under creative commons. So I though the image is free to share and modify. I was actually mislead by the website and the information while using the translator. I assure you that such things will not happen in future from me and I will be careful while uploading the file. Abyjohn1991 (talk) 16:23, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

  • No worries, other websites (Flickr being the most common, but hardly the only one) claiming licences for images they don't own isn't uncommon, you are hardly the first person to do this :) Courcelles 17:35, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
