Comment I actually agree with you on all four of your opinions. For the first two, I was at a wrong angle and therefore I had to increase my shutter speed, for the third one, the bird kept swinging his head up and down to eat the fish, for the last one, I messed up entirely and didn't zoom out until later, but for those that were taken then: the DoF was too shallow, and the background was mildly distracting. Small corrections[edit]
Just a friendly word of caution about making small and even innocent corrections in other people's posts: Don't do it! It may be well meant and totally within reason, but that is the one thing that can get you in trouble on almost any Wiki project. I think you corrected a typo for me once and I let it slide, but the quarrels I have seen over such small things... Just let people make their own mistakes and don't correct anything else than perhaps misses in codes, like a missing ] or }, or categories and always let the person you corrected know what you did or write something like "if you don't like this correction, please accept my apologies and revert it" in the edit summary. --Cart (talk) 22:24, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Nous ne nous sommes pas croisés jusqu'à présent dans les pages de "Commons", que nous fréquentons tous deux pourtant depuis longtemps.
Je te vois aujourd'hui parmi les votants (rigoureux !) de la page FPC, que j'ai délaissée depuis quelques mois, et donc je file ensuite sur ta page, pour voir que tu es amateur d'ambigrammes.
Je te félicite pour la qualité de ton travail dans ce domaine, j'ai notamment beaucoup apprécié ton "Hillary Clinton", chapeau !
Si tu t'intéresses à la musique, et si tu sais la lire, je te recommande de ne pas manquer l'examen de partitions de Jean-Sébastien BACH (l' "Offrande Musicale", mais surtout l' "Art de la Fugue"), qui présentent des écritures d'ambigrammes musicaux particulièrement remarquables et qui t'intéresseront, même juste visuellement (sujets et contre-sujets "en miroir" ou à l'"écrevisse" -verticaux ou horizontaux-, combinés les uns avec les autres), placés avec une telle facilité et une telle virtuosité que c'en est confondant.
Pour moi, cet homme était un génie absolu. Non seulement c'est un mathématicien, mais ces oeuvres là sont jouables, et particulièrement belles à entendre.
Il a même carrément construit toute une oeuvre ("La Passion selon Saint-Jean") comme un ambigramme gigantesque, avec un choral central, auquel tout aboutit, et duquel tout part.
Bref, c'est pour moi l'expression du même esprit que celui qui t'anime dans tes créations, et je voulais juste te signaler ce domaine, à explorer si tu ne l'as déjà fait !

- Bonjour Jebulon, merci de ce message. Oui, j'aime beaucoup la page FPC de Commons, et la façon dont les images sont évaluées collectivement. Mais je ne suis actif ici que depuis 9 mois seulement, bien que mon compte ait été ouvert il y a 6 ans, c'est normal que nous ne nous soyons pas croisés auparavant. En ce qui concerne les ambigrammes, je suis un grand fan, en effet, depuis une dizaine d'années. En revanche, pour la musique, j'avoue être absolument inexpérimenté, ni musicien ni même capable de lire les notes. J'aime juste l'écouter, et ce que j'écoute en général est plus proche du rock n'roll que du classique. Néanmoins, j'ai cherché sur internet le rapport entre Bach et les palindromes, et trouvé cette vidéo très bien conçue. Bon, le concept est amusant ou curieux, après au niveau artistique, sincèrement je ne trouve rien de spécial à cette mélodie, même si mon jugement est peut-être lié à un manque de repère en la matière. Je garde néanmoins la référence, pour le lointain projet que j'ai de développer la page Wikipédia sur les ambigrammes, avec entre autre des références à d'autres artistes tels que Michel Gondry par exemple pour son clip palindrome Cibo Matto. Il y a un côté ludique et mathématique en effet dans cette recherche de symétrie pour concevoir des oeuvres diverses et variées. Une chose m'intrigue aussi via ce travail de composition, c'est pourquoi certaines notes assemblées en palindrome peuvent sonner juste (être belles) et d'autres pas. C'est vrai qu'il est étrange qu'une partition ait un sens directionnel. Et pourquoi toutes les symphonies à l'envers ne deviennent-elles pas aussi intéressantes ? Je présume que les professionnels ont pas mal investi la question et sauraient répondre, mais je trouve cette idée surprenante. - Oui, moi aussi, Christian. D'ailleurs, ce photographe aurait sûrement du succès sur Commons. Dommage d'avoir retiré cette nomination qui était bien partie pour gagner son étoile. Ça dissuade un peu de s'engager pour les prochaines, mais je comprends que l'enthousiasme général n'était pas à la hauteur du succès imaginé. Bon, moi j'aimais bien ces troncs personnellement, mais je peux aussi comprendre les avis mitigés, puisque ces divergences d'opinions sont fréquentes dans le groupe. Evidemment, il est toujours plus satisfaisant de voir sa nomination promue avec 15 ou 20 commentaires triomphaux, mais sachant que la moitié des candidatures environ ne passent pas la barre, on peut aussi considérer que chaque soutien a sa valeur, même s'il ne se manifeste que par un point vert sobrement signé. - Il manque un petit quelque chose à cette image, je pense que j'y ai mis trop de profondeur de champs, et j'ai voulu y inclure trop de choses, j'aurai du trouver un moyen de mettre plus l'accent sur le tronc principal... Je suis souvent trop enthousiate quand je nomine des photos, et il m'arrive de changer d'avis une fois la photo nominée, ou au grès des commentaires et votes. En l'occurence c'est le cas ici, avec le recul je pense que je n'aurai certainement pas donné mon soutien (ou alors du bout des doigts) si la photo avait été prise par quelqu'un d'autre. Surface reflection[edit]

There's certainly an effect there, but I'm not sure it is similar to that seen on a car roof. What is your "diffuse" surface? It looks more like a reflecting surface that is uneven and with some defects, creating false edges/pattern in the reflection. A diffuse surface sends reflections in all directions at the microscopic level. But if the surface is just uneven, then reflections are sent like a mirror but to a small number of different directions depending on the angle of the surface.
With the shallow DoF these imperfections are out of focus making the whole thing blurred. With the deep DoF, the false edges are in focus and no longer interfere with contrast and apparent sharpness. Like trying to use crumpled tin foil as a mirror. It is interesting to note that the "diffuse" surface is not significantly more readable at f/32.
Does that effect extend to a surface that is uneven at micro scale, such as with paintwork or a dirty surface? Could there come a point where bringing the surface into focus actual decreases apparent visibility. Consider a picture of a person that is pixelised to hide identity. If you screw your eyes up to make it blurred, it can make the image appear clearer. The false square edges are no longer interfering with your ability to recognise the features of a face. - This diffuse surface is made from metallic adhesive. That explains the horizontal line in the middle, intersection of two lines stuck together. So this material is like crumpled tin foil yes, or metallic paint, or aluminium sheet, inox pans, etc. Reflectance is not a difficult concept. Any material has a coefficient of reflectance. That's just the proportion of light reflected. There's also color, relief and texture associated with any object, but for planar surfaces it's pretty simple. 3D modelling allows to play with this parameter and it's possible to create artificial apples for example completely mirroring or completely opaque. Here this metallic adhesive is not a perfect mirror but the light is still partly reflected. Perhaps the reflectance coefficient is 70%, while the perfect mirror has 99%.
- Now concerning the DoF, the sharpness is proportional to this coefficient. F/32 is maybe not enough, but if the DoF was infinite, we could see all the details at the bottom. However, the reflection will never be perfect like through a true mirror, rather always diffuse until a minimum (perhaps 30% here). The problem is that part of it is not the reflection but the "material" itself, mixed together inside the same area. So the question of DoF has a direct impact on details, since a shallow Dof will show more of the blurred material, while a large DoF will show more of the sharp material (including the reflected and 30% diffused image). If this roof was a polished apple for example, the focus would be more interesting with a large DoF, in order to include this beautiful surface with its diffused reflection in the picture. But a shallow DoF just shows the blurred apple with a bit of diffused sky, and this blurred composition is not aesthetic. You shifted by my replies together, which made the text "Your first statement" incorrect. I appreciate chronology is important and shouldn't be arbitrarily messed with, but it is very very much standard practice to do as I did, and double-indent when replying out-of-sequence when the existing replies had already gathered their own replies. It remains clear that when Ikan writes "I don't agree with you." he is replying to Elcobbola. I've been editing wiki for thirteen years, so, I'm old enough to format my own text. - Bonjour Armenak Margarian, merci pour ce message en français, et pour le compliment. Mes critiques dans la section QI ne sont jamais faites pour offenser, moi aussi j'aime beaucoup la photographie et j'essaie d'être honnête, en respectant les "guidelines". Mais les goûts et les avis divergent souvent sur Wikimedia Commons. Au sujet de cette photo, je suis assez d'accord avec le commentaire de Basotxerri, qui a décliné. Car en regardant de près, c'est vrai qu'il manque des détails. Peut-être que l'optique n'était pas assez bonne, ou bien l'image a été trop travaillée en post-production. Je trouve aussi que l'angle n'est pas très bien choisi, car toute la face avant est très sombre. Peut-être qu'en se déplaçant un peu vers la gauche, la composition aurait été meilleure.
