Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thank you for contributing to Tamil Wiki Media Contest and sharing your files with the whole world. Results of the contest can be viewed here. You are very welcome to keep uploading files, even though the contest is over. The contest was very successful with more than 15,000 media files uploaded. Nearly 8000 of them are being used in various wikiprojects in different languages. Hi @AntanO: . The source file clearly shows the letter issued on behalf of Tamil Nadu government that the book the nationalised book (money paid to the author by Tamil Nadu government) and released under CC0. And the figures which you have mentioned in the file is not just an art work in a story. It is book about exercise. The exercise pose is integral to the description. Hence I guess the license information in the original file will suffice as proof. The original file is also linked in the image file for reference. Please correct me in places my argument is wrong and help me to find a way to do it correctly. There are more than 2200 books to be proof read. Many such files may follow. I do not see any letter in those files as nationalized book and not any link regarding to CC0. I would suggest you to give proper link as already done for File:தொந்தியைக் குறைக்க சுலபமான வழிகள்.pdf. No. I was mentioning that the image has a link to its source. The source contains all the data regarding permissions. May be then the license tag shall have to be modified suitably. because there are many books which are to be proofread and the illustration of an experiment is very much required to understand the text. SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India: Feedback survey[edit]

Greetings,

Many thanks for participating in the SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India. It had been quite a successful campaign—194 users from 19 Indic languages took part in the campaign for 38 days, and have created more than 2,500 SVG files, all of them having labels in native Indian languages. Hi. When uploading works, I would like to suggest that after an upload that you convert the {{Information}} to {{Book}} as they are more informative and useful. It is disappointment that we cannot have it automatic through the wizard process. Usually I will use the old-fashioned upload tool, and a manually completed template.
