Re: Thank you[edit]

WelcomeI was born in Shanghai, thank you for providing so many Shanghai photos on Wikimedia commons--Fayhoo (talk) 06:37, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have many more to upload soon! Thanks again. -Another Believer (talk) 03:12, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For works first published between 1923 and 1963, US law required both copyright notice and a renewal 28 years later. Notice is present on the sculpture -- it is clearly visible at the bottom of the medallion in File:Esther Short Park, Vancouver, WA (2013) - 08.JPG, but a search of the copyright records shows no renewal. Such searches are a little tedious, because the records before 1978 have not been digitized, so you have to look through six PDFs (in this case for 1955, 1956, and 1957, each in two half year parts), but with experience they can be done relatively quickly.

I have changed the images in the WP:EN article back to the Commons versions and marked the WP versions of the images for deletion.

You may find File:PD-US table.svg helpful when dealing with the complexities of USA copyright.

http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/cce/ is the easiest to use of the several lists of copyright renewals.

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Alloro Vineyard, Oregon, 2016 [1-5].jpg[edit]

Hello,

I have closed your DR requests and marked the files for speedy deletion using {{Duplicate}}. As outlined on COM:DR, "If the media is a duplicate use {{Duplicate}}, or was uploaded under the wrong file name, use {{Rename}}."

Cheers, :) Riley Huntley (talk) 23:33, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting. I was not familiar with the duplicate template. -Another Believer (talk) 23:34, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New category[edit]

I created a new image category on Commons:

Category:Rainbow White House.

Know of any other free-use-licensed images to upload and add into the category?

Yours,

-- Cirt (talk) 01:52, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cirt: Not off the top of my head, but I'll keep the category in mind in case I come across other images to add. Thanks! -Another Believer (talk) 14:42, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Check the category again. I was able to find a bunch more free-use-licensed ones. And also later I'll add a few free-use video files including one by The White House of a Time-Lapse video of the lights being set up. I think it is notable enough on its own for a wiki article on Rainbow White House, what do you think? -- Cirt (talk) 14:53, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cirt: Wow, way to populate the category! Great work. I've not done any research about Rainbow White House to know whether it meets notability criteria. I just assumed the White House was one of many buildings/landmarks illuminated in rainbow colors in response to the Supreme Court ruling, but maybe there is much more to the White House's illumination, specifically? If you do happen to start an article, feel free to ping me so I can take a look! BTW, I don't know if you are interested or not, but work is starting to prepare for June's annual "Wiki Loves Pride" campaign. If you are interested in creating/improving LGBT-related content at Wikipedia and/or Commons, stay tuned to find out how you can help. -Another Believer (talk) 21:54, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Update: The White House had a whole movement dedicated to it, at https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2015/06/26/live-updates-lovewins-supreme-court-rules-gay-and-lesbian-couples-can-marry-0 -- as for the "Wiki Loves Pride" -- I'm not quite sure how busy I'll be in life at that point in time, but certainly feel free to keep me posted either way as to what it involves and what's going on. -- Cirt (talk) 22:02, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(Edit conflict) Will do! As for "Rainbow White House", I'm not sure the lighting of the WH is notable enough for its own article, but I see that it's at least mentioned in the "reactions" section of the Obergefell v. Hodges article. -Another Believer (talk) 22:10, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I put a request to see if someone can make an SVG version of the Rainbow White House avatar, at Commons:Graphic_Lab/Illustration_workshop#Rainbow_White_House_avatar. -- Cirt (talk) 22:06, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'll wait on it a bit and do some more research to see as to the extent of secondary source coverage, particularly of the phrase, "Rainbow White House". :) -- Cirt (talk) 23:01, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. -Another Believer (talk) 02:33, 26 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Time Lapse video[edit]

Time-Lapse of The White House on June 26th 2015

Public Domain by The White House.

The White House website has a MUCH higher resolution file of this that is almost a gigabyte -- but I uploaded their highest-quality version off YouTube.

Perhaps this file could be useful on various sister projects.

Enjoy,

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Stag PDX interior, 2016.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Prague photo identification[edit]

You have uploaded a lot of nice photos of Prague, but without identifying any of the buildings or bridges, although perhaps you were planning to do so later. If it has not already occurred to you, you will find that gallery pages for cities, such as this one – Praha – can make the task of identifying major buildings relatively easy (as opposed to going through categories, of which there are hundreds for Prague alone!). I was able to categorize some of your recent images via that method, despite having no familiarity with any of the buildings or bridges, and having never visited Prague (except changing trains there). I used the same method to identify buildings when I categorized some of your Shanghai photos a few months back: looking at gallery pages, rather than categories. – Steve Morgan (talk) 14:09, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, your advice is helpful! -Another Believer (talk) 18:59, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Steve Morgan: Sorry, I am just now re-reading your comment and seeing your category additions in my watchlist. Thank you for adding so many categories, and yes, I am categorizing my travel photos as I do research and create stubs at Wikipedia, too. -Another Believer (talk) 19:38, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Date and time setting of your camera[edit]

Hi. Thank you for 559 your photos from Prague. I checked and categorized them all.

Please check and keep accurate setting of date and time in your camera. All your photos from the event Malostranské čarodějnice 2016 have April 29 in EXIF metadata, although the event was held on April 30.

As can be seen on photos with street clocks, your camera was 145 minutes ahead, or rather 1295 minutes (21:35 hours) late, with regard to the date.

--ŠJů (talk) 20:36, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ŠJů: Thank you for the heads up, and for categorizing so many of my images. I am checking each diff in my watchlist in order to view your changes and update my Prague gallery accordingly. I am also trying to create stubs at English Wikipedia for sites lacking articles. There are many articles at Czech Wikipedia without equivalents at English Wikipedia. Thanks again for your help--I truly appreciate your time and assistance. -Another Believer (talk) 20:41, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
File:Brandenburg Gate, Berlin (2015) - 08.JPG has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
