Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, A loose necktie!

Smaller texts are badly readable. Do you have a bigger version? In addition, here is no exact source. Sometimes this is reason for deletion, although not here: the file is obviously work of US government. Nevertheless: do you have exact source? Taivo (talk) 09:06, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Got your message. Sorry, that upload was poorly done. Thank you for contacting me to point out its shortcomings. I acquired the original map from here on Commons where, incidentally, it is also lacking author and source information. All of this can be fixed, I think: the source for both images should probably be indicated as "United States Geological Survey Map of Leverett Glacier, Antarctica, SV 1-10/7, S8500—W13500/1x15" published in 1966 (I am taking that from the map itself) with the author as "United States Geological Survey in cooperation with the National Science Foundation". Now, when I go to the USGS website and look for this map, what I find are three links to pages which supposedly show it but were published in 2018 (see here). And when I try to download and view any of these files, my computer informs me that although it did download something called usarcmp3tst2.shtml, that file is only 26kb and the intended file itself was not findable (try it yourself, if you like). I have now sent the USGS a message about this, will let you know if I hear back from them. In the mean time, I will re-upload my modified map in much higher resolution so that the names on it can be properly read, and I will add the sourcing and author information as indicated above unless you think these should say something else (?). Again, thanks again for pointing this out. A loose noose (talk) 12:35, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, have now heard back from the USGS and they gave me a link to the correct set of maps. I have placed this link in both files. A loose noose (talk) 23:08, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Hi there, and thanks for your work spotting copyright violations. For really obvious cases, you don't need to bother starting a deletion discussion. Just tag the file {{Copyvio |1= |source= }}, with the reason you believe it's a copyvio in the field 1=, and, when available, a URL in the field source=. In cases where the file has an author and a source, but no evidence the author agreed to its publication under a free license, tag it {{subst:npd}}. Happy hunting! --Rrburke (talk) 13:01, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request for confirmation[edit]

You created a file called Greenhouse-effect-t2.svg that shows CO2, H2O, and NH4 as the major greenhouse gases. The Wikipedia article on greenhouse gases, however, states that the primary greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, water, methane (CH4), nitrous oxide, and ozone. Ammonium (NH4) is not mentioned in the article. Which leads me to ask if the NH4 in your file is not a typo for CH4. Could you check this out and let me know what you think? Thanks

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:Spreader bar tackle.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: False claim of PD-ineligible - this is clearly over the threshold of originality

Earth poster[edit]

File:Earth poster.svg Thanks for your past edit of uppercasing Earth, which is what I came to the page to ask about. Your poster version was reverted in March for two reasons, you had moved the word Earth (now lowercased earth again) and you had removed some labels. Too much at once apparently. But the uppercasing of Earth is correct, per Wikipedia style, so can you please have a do-over and just uppercase the E where it is. That should clear muster. It was a nice and appreciated thought on your part to add the image's correct casing. Thanks. I'm seldom at Commons except to gripe about some delete nomination, so it's nice to talk about something else here. 03:08, 6 June 2023 (UTC) Randy Kryn (talk) 03:08, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
