Please keep data in sync

Questionable users added to the master list should always have their ID added to User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors and vice versa. Just adding the to the master list does not stop the Bot reviewing them, it also prevents data loss if someone syncs the bad user list list with the IDs listed there. Thank you. --Denniss (talk) 07:56, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

I never did understand why User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors was set up separately from this page. I specifically designed the format of this page to be easily readable by bots. LX (talk, contribs) 10:04, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
The list at the bot is much simpler and syntax-errors in it are more easy to detect.
I've 3 suggestions how one could ease the process:
  • Allow image-reviewer to edit User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors
  • Create a JavaScript-Application for easily adding a Flickr-user to both lists
  • Create a Toolserver-Tool that queries the information and passes them back to the JavaScript-Application (JSONP) so one can add a bad user by ID or by any URL.
Thoughts? -- Rillke(q?) 17:41, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Snapshots from the Past

I'm not sure if this is really needed, but I've noticed quite a few images uploaded from Snapshots from the Past. Literally all of the images uploaded here were either public domain maps or panoramas from the Library of Congress, usually with some sort of watermark added by the Flickr user (I've mostly seen "Copyright, Olde Yankee Map and Photo Shoppe"). I did a custom search on Google for all instances of "Snapshots of the Past" on the Commons and it seems that a lot of images from that Flickr have been uploaded here. Deletion requests:

Also, 69684588@N07 was added to User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors on 2013-03-02. So why was User:Flickr upload bot still happily uploading photos like

in September? Does User:Flickr upload bot ignore that list? Does it ignore COM:QFI as well? It sounds like it. Since the bot operator hasn't responded to that question in two years, where can I see the source code for the bot to find the answer myself? It doesn't seem to be available. How long are we going to allow an unmaintained closed-source bot whose operator hasn't been around for over a year to upload obvious copyright violations from obvious copyright violators before we block it? I'm sure that'd be sufficient incentive for a better one to be created quite quickly. LX (talk, contribs) 11:01, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

I tried understanding FlickreviewR's source code but it doesn't seem to be latest version? I was unable finding anything containing bad-authors:
svn checkout https://bryan@svn.toolserver.org/svnroot/bryan
cd bryan
grep -r "bad-authors" .
echo ------------------
Flickr upload bot's source seem to be deleted. This looks like the web form's last step, for example.
I tested tools:~bryan/flickr/upload and it seems to ignore the blacklist. Bryan is, however, not dead and may respond to an e-Mail. -- Rillke(q?) 16:08, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Removing user from this list

How do I get a Flickr user removed from this list?--Obi2canibe (talk) 13:57, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

A good start would be to say which Flickr account you're talking about and why you think it doesn't belong on the list. LX (talk, contribs) 15:23, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Indi Samarajiva. This user was added to this list following this deletion request. I don't know if the the image in question was a copyright breach but I am certain that most of the images on Samarajiva's Flickr account aren't - they are his own work. If you go through his account you will that see most of the images were taken by him on trips around the country, family occasions and other social events. There are images of his family and friends. There are even images of Samarajiva himself (1, 2, 3, 4 etc).
Samarajiva is a blogger/journalist and some of his work has been published in The Sunday Leader newspaper (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc). It is therefore possible that the image which was the subject of the deletion request was actually taken by him and sold to AFP, as pointed out by User:Bongoman--Obi2canibe (talk) 11:01, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
The photo discussed in that deletion discussion was taken by Sena Vidanagama,[21] so Bongoman's speculation was just that – speculation – and the deletion was entirely correct. The flickr user has lots of derivative works that he's obviously not authorised to license (e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/indi/11084736/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/indi/9769156442/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/indi/9769157462/) and photos that just weren't taken by him (http://www.flickr.com/photos/indi/11797781/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/indi/32368546/, and the one from the deletion discussion). There are a lot of legitimate ones too, but anything from that account is going to have to be manually scrutinised, so it does indeed belong on the list here. LX (talk, contribs) 12:52, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
But because Samarajiva is on this list any image from his Flickr is immediately deleted from Commons without any manual scrutiny. Recently I uploaded a cropped version of this image and it was immediately deleted because Samarajiva is on this list. There was no manual scrutiny, if there had been the user who deleted the image would have noticed that the original image is on Commons as well - File:Douglas Devananda.jpg.--Obi2canibe (talk) 13:31, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
I'd chalk that up to human error. Talk to the admin who deleted it and point them at this discussion. That photo should be fine. It was taken the same day it was uploaded using a camera frequently used by the Flickr user. LX (talk, contribs) 13:48, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
OK, I'll do that. Thanks for your input.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:23, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

These just the images that are of concern to me as the primary editor of w:2012–13 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team, which has become a featured article on WP and the biographies of w:Trey Burke, w:Tim Hardaway, Jr., w:Mitch McGary, w:Glenn Robinson III, and w:Nik Stauskas which are all good articles on wikipedia. His photostream on Flickr covers a much broader topic list than Michigan basketball.--TonyTheTiger (talk) 20:20, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm, another collector account with falsified Exif data? A random selection of 10 images shows a minimum of 5 different cams, EOS 5D II, EOS 7D, Nikon D3, D4 and D300. [22] has Allen Einstein listed as Creator. --Denniss (talk) 23:18, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
I received the following Flickrmail explanation regarding the Horford image: "Thanks for pointing this out to me. The metedata is incorrect. I took the photo and own the copyright. Many of us use the same program to ingest our photos and I must have forgotten to change the information when uploading."--TonyTheTiger (talk) 07:28, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
In response to my query about multiple cameras he has responded: "I work at a student newspaper where I have been lucky enough to borrow multiple cameras from my friends and colleagues to use when I shoot various sporting events."--TonyTheTiger (talk) 04:46, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
I did some cursory Google Images searches on some of those pictures. The "Mitch McGary dunking at NCAA tournament" picture was published at Michigan Daily on March 23, which is the same day the EXIF info on Flickr has it. The credit on Michigan Daily indicates the author is Adam Glanzman. Tabercil (talk) 06:14, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Glantzman sent me to a page that has a slide show of a lot of the images above, but he is getting annoyed at my questions. Here is his latest response: "I don't understand why I have to justify to you that I took all of the photos I have posted on my flickr site. Sometimes I did not change the metadata when uploading my photos from the last person who used the computer before me; that does not me that the photo does not belong to me. The specific photo that is in question can be found on this page: www.michigandaily.com/sports/balanced-scoring-tenacious-transition-game-boosts-michigan-past-arkansas. The rest of my photos posted on my flickr page can also be found on michigandaily.com with a little searching around. Are there other photos also in question?"--TonyTheTiger (talk) 04:32, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Can a person submit a file for use in w:Michigan Daily and post the same image copyfree on flickr?--TonyTheTiger (talk) 04:35, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

I see nothing that largely prevents it. The Bylaws & Ethics document found on the website says this: "Ownership: The Michigan Daily has the right to publish images for any publication, print or electronic, that were shot for the Daily by Daily photographers forever. The Daily may license any image subject to the Daily’s policy on freelancing under these bylaws. Any sale of Daily content must have prior approval of the Editor in Chief. When content is sold, credit must be given courtesy of The Michigan Daily and the author. Policies concerning licensing rights for authors of Daily content shall be set by Management Desk." (emphasis there mine) Nothing I can see about placing the image in the public domain. And Adam Glanzman is one of the two Managing Photo Editors for the Michigan Daily. [34], account created 9/2013 and uploaded celeb images from 2010. This image has © 2013 FameFlynet, Inc - Beverly Hills, CA, U.S.A. in EXIF. I'd say this account is highly suspect and should be blocked. Opinions? --Denniss (talk) 19:11, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Note that most of the images, or maybe all of them, already have been uploaded to Commons, including the mentioned FameFlynet image. Please could you check if File:Ciara November 2013.jpg came from that same Flickr account? Jespinos (talk) 20:24, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes. --Denniss (talk) 21:24, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
That is another evidence that suggests that the Flickr account is untrustworthy and, in my opinion, the images that come from that account would be deleted from Commons and the account would be blacklisted. Jespinos (talk) 21:44, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. Is blocked now and I'll delete the images. --Denniss (talk) 21:52, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Apparent Flickrwashing account used by SideMaster (talk · contribs) to upload File:Jese Rodriguez 2012-13.jpg, sourced to [35] but actually from [36] (the user even stole the user name from the source). The profile also has [37], identical to File:Ronaldo.png from the same uploader, taken from [38].

It should go without saying that any Flickr source cited by SideMaster should be deemed untrustworthy. Ytoyoda (talk) 06:06, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

All his images aren't problematic but all related to 'films' and 'magazines' are..none have yet to be added to commons but its only a matter of time so would be best if he was blacklisted...--Stemoc (talk) 03:04, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

I checked some pages of his photostream and found a lot of Vip/promotional images + screenshots from websites. A block seems justified. Objections? --Denniss (talk) 06:44, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

I did a bit of looking around but don't see any better place to start this discussion on Commons other than here. Since I don't have definitive proof, I haven't taken it to the deletion discussions yet. A Google image search does not show this exact image on many sites right now and the Flickr page mentioned in the description is the only page that shows any kind of license that I can see.

The image in question is used to illustrate the articles about thigh gap (such as at en). The image description page says that it came from Flickr, but this image looks an awful lot like the images that were made by and for the ShopBop website. I was a freelance image processor for ShopBop in the 2010-2012 range, and my daily routine while in that position was to edit and retouch images that used this exact photo style to show what pants looked like on-model. ShopBop has an in-house studio with photographers that are ShopBop employees, and as far as I know, everything that is shot in-house is considered "work for hire" which means that the copyright is owned by ShopBop; the freelance contract that I signed before I started as an image processor clearly stated that ShopBop owned the copyrights on the images that I was to retouch for them. The profile of the user who posted this image on Flickr says that he is in Ireland; ShopBop is located in Madison, WI, where I am located. While I was freelancing at ShopBop, there was only one image processor who was not on-site, and that person was located in the US. Slambo (talk) 16:12, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

The Flickr uploader admits he found this elsewhere --Denniss (talk) 17:13, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
I believe this is the image that was used as a 'palette' by multiple sites for testing different kinds of jeans design using a photo editing software...can;t say who owns the copyright but I think it belongs to nelly.com--Stemoc (talk) 23:40, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Another bad apple

This guy has 6000 images on Flickr, many of them them CC BY licensed. Yet however many of the images are not his to license... as he admits on his profile page. He also contradicts the license by stating "My art and photos are free for non-commercial use.". https://secure.flickr.com/people/freeparking/

Many of the images are old enough to potentially be out of copyright but here for example is a contemporary work obviously in violation. http://www.flickr.com/photos/99051133@N00/2287603292 He even tagged it contemporary, yet marked it CC BY...

I read the Commons:Questionable Flickr images page but don't understand how I'm supposed to act with this info. Palosirkka (talk) 12:52, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
