"Experimental features"[edit]

I don't see an "Experimental features" tab in my preferences. - Jmabel ! talk 00:32, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's the "Experimental features" section of the "Upload Wizard" tab. --Rosenzweig τ 21:27, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pywikipediabot[edit]

... but also for bots using the API, especially for files uploaded through the API.: What's with upload.py of Pywikipediabot? Does it support chunked uploading now or in the near future? Raymond 08:52, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it normal to be so looooooonnnnnnnggggg ?[edit]

I'm trying to load a 107 Mb djvu file (a dictionary) and it's been running for 3 hours now : is it normal ?

I think an indicator of the running task would be nice (to know how much of the task has been done), because it is impossible in the present version to know if it is really working, or just "looping" 8)

Thank you --Hsarrazin (talk) 17:00, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

in fact, after resetting the option for "chunked uploads", and relaunching an upload, I saw that the progression indicator is there... but it seems to disappear with "chunked uploads" option : is it a bug ?
in any case, 4 minutes to upload a 90 Mb file... (in standard wizard upload) and more than 3 hours for a 107 Mb one (chunked upload - without result).... there certainly is something wrong in the Realm of Denmark Clin --Hsarrazin (talk) 17:34, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unveiling the Official President Bush Portrait.ogv[edit]

I tried to upload this 396 MB file twice, and both times failed. The first attempt was on Firefox 16 on Ubuntu 12.04, and gave an API error. The second attempt was on Firefox Nightly 19.0a1 on Windows 7 (64-bit), and said it failed to store temporary file. -- King of 03:59, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tried using Commons:VicuñaUploader but it still failed. -- King of 05:51, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Re King of Hearts: It's now at File:Unveiling the Official President Bush Portrait.ogv and I had the developers help me upload the file. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 16:04, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't work[edit]

I tried to upload a video (.ogg, 180 MB, I switched my settings like discribed - by the way, in german it says: "Experimentelle Funktionen: Hochladen von Dateien, die größer als 1 MB sind, in mehreren Teilen), but a trial-upload with the regular commons-tool gave me the warning: "This file is bigger than the server is configured to allow." So, it doesn't work. I would really like 500 MB uploads for my videos. Why to give them to youtube. --Bin im Garten (talk) 16:32, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Actually doesnt work in FF 27 nor Google Chrome 33.0.1750.154 m--Juandev (talk) 03:23, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Had issues with a file getting corrupted[edit]

Uploading the file File:Earthbag Structure Time-Lapse.ogv gave some problems. The file appears to have not been uploaded correctly. Using: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0. I've requested a server-side upload to reupload the file. Zellfaze (talk) 13:16, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can also try to re-upload the file if it is smaller than 1 GB. --McZusatz (talk) 21:43, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Autotranslate[edit]

@Be..anyone: Why did you change {{TNT}} to {{Autotranslate}}? It’s definitely worse for pages translated with the Translate extension, since it depends on UI language instead of page content language (e.g. if you see the English page with German UI, you see German infobox while all other content is in English). Can I redo it? (I don’t see any problems with British English, tell me if you still do.) --Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:58, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I hoped to bypass an oddity, but it wasn't worse or better at first glance. I just undo it, for the why see Help talk:Chunked upload. –Be..anyone (talk) 22:11, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

api-error-internal_api_error_MWException[edit]

I've tried twice to upload a a 113.5 MB djvu file. Everything seemed to work well until the end when I got this error: "api-error-internal_api_error_MWException". --Jaqen (talk) 11:30, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Same thing here, the upload seme to went fine until I got the <api-error-internal_api_error_MWException>, this is happening to others, as it can be seen in this [phabricator thread]. Another user described the error pretty well: the upload went well till the end, I progressed to the step of filling in the metadata info (description, license, categories, etc) and at the final step (publishing), I got the <api-error-internal_api_error_MWException>. Any ideas?--Eduardo.Testart.BNCL (talk) 20:54, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

did not complete upload[edit]

It took ~1 hour to (neary) upload an 200MB video. But it got stuck when it said “20 seconds left”. I use FF38. --Geogast (talk) 22:17, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is this function still active?[edit]

I cannot find this function anymore in my preferences. And since I would like to upload some large files, this would be very welcome for me. Any other way beside Server-side uploads?//Hannibal (talk) 19:22, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Noone? User:Jean-Frédéric?//Hannibal (talk) 20:58, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
User:Jean-Frédéric, any answer? Sorry for being difficult.//Hannibal (talk) 12:16, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hannibal: We (I work for WMF's Multimedia team) recently enabled chunked uploads for everyone using UploadWizard by default, see phab:T131496 (and the file size limit is 4 GB now, see phab:T131895). This whole page is very outdated and best ignored, I didn't even know it exists until I stumbled upon it by chance today. Matma Rex (talk) 20:26, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Matma Rex! I was about to file an issue on Phabricator to enquire about this (I could not find the task you linked either). Thanks for chiming in and the explanation :).
Shall we just delete that page then? Or is it worth keeping now that you updated it?
Jean-Fred (talk) 11:40, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's worth keeping in some form, if only to explain that this is enabled for everyone (perhaps you could slap {{Historical}} on it or something). Various other pages refer to "chunked uploads" as something that must be enabled, and since the option is not there anymore, users could easily think that the functionality was removed, rather than just the toggle. Matma Rex (talk) 11:55, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Matma Rex. I tried it before, and it didn't work, so I am glad this is fixed. I managed to upload the first of the files and will continue to do that later.//Hannibal (talk) 14:56, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
