- @Bobbyleigh00 (talk • contribs • block log • filter log): Hi, and welcome. I guess this is you, but please login. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it per COM:HR, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer post permission on their official website or social media or send the photo and permission via VRT with a carbon copy to you. If you can't get a compliant license, the photo may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:18, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

- @Tidjani Saleh: Hi, and welcome. The "Filter description: License review by non-Image-reviewers" indicates that the filter thinks you were pretending to be a license reviewer on that file. Instead of doing that, you should have used the original {{Flickrreview}} tag. How tight a crop do you think you need? Also, the png version will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744), so you may want to upload a jpg version, too. Next time, please use CropTool for cropping, and consider using {{Extracted from}} and {{Image extracted}} or dFX to preserve source links. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:02, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

- @F1XERC0DE: Hola y bienvenido.

Such uploads of png images are not allowed at all. You indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a png image, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it per COM:HR, including any metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin as-is, so you may need to license it on your official website or social media or send permission via VRT. Also, any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744) or jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg or jpg version, too. If you can't get a compliant license, the image may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 06:12, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

- Edit kind: I was testing a PAWS Script to make changes to one of 4,200 images I've uploaded via Pattypan. The error I got included "WARNING: API error abusefilter-disallowed: .... Galleries with no gallery tag"
- Comments: Having recently uploaded ~4.200 images via Pattypan, I've noticed two issues.
The first is that many should have better creator data. The second is the the dimensions of some is malformed.
I'm testing a PAWS Script (my first - following Lukas' example but amending it).
So my script attempts to change as follows
page.text = page.text.replace('artist = George Washington Wilson', 'artist = {{Creator:George Washington Wilson}}')
If this works, I will have a several hundred images to enhance.
My second script - not yet written - will fix empty or malformed Dimensions statements such as this
page.text = page.text.replace('dimensions = {{Size|unit=cm|width=|height=}}")'', 'dimensions = {{Size|unit=cm|width76=|height=37.8}}')
This was the full message received:

- Thanks, Jeff G.
- That's helpful. I've now worked out that my syntax should have been as follows:
page = pywikibot.Page(site, 'File:2_Prints_-_Wick_and_Durham_-_George_Washington_Wilson_-_ABDMS018123.jpg')
- rather than
page = pywikibot.Page(site, '2_Prints_-_Wick_and_Durham_-_George_Washington_Wilson_-_ABDMS018123.jpg')
- This now works.

If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it as-is, and have the photographer post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such work on their website or social media presence or send the photo and permission via VRT with a carbon copy to you. If you can't get a compliant license, the photo may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. - As was previously indicated, AF 255 is merely a logging filter. All it does is create a log of uploads that contain certain keywords used by an LTA so that the resulting log can be reviewed instead of manually reviewing everything at Special:NewFiles. AF 255 does not disallow actions. It does not even warn against actions. It has no user-facing impact whatsoever, and thus would never cause a report here. Proposed change of cross-wiki upload edit summaries
A little over a week ago, I proposed changing the upload comment used for cross-wiki uploads because it keeps confusing people. There seems to be a consensus for the change and no objections to my proposed new wording, but there are some abuse filters that will need to be updated to match any change. Please could any abuse filter that currently matches "Cross-wiki upload from" be changed to also match "Uploaded own work while editing"? Once the wiki configuration is updated, the older string can be removed. Ideally, abuse filters use the cross-wiki-upload
tag rather than the human-targetted edit summary, but I don't think abuse filters can currently see tags.
Of the public filters, I've found the following that are affected:
- Special:AbuseFilter/153
"Cross-wiki upload from" in summary
→("Cross-wiki upload from" in summary | "Uploaded own work while editing" in summary)
- Special:AbuseFilter/156
summary irlike "(Cross-wiki upload from|logo|cropped)"
→summary irlike "(Cross-wiki upload from|Uploaded own work while editing|logo|cropped)"
There may be some that I've missed, or some private ones that I can't see. --bjh21 (talk) 19:17, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose The "own work" is to narrow because you can easily upload works through the Wikipedia interface that are not your own as long as they come with an appropriate licence. See the Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard: "Upload your own work or a freely licensed file" (my emphasis). Therefore I suggest that we use the following:
- Special:AbuseFilter/153
"Cross-wiki upload from" in summary
→("Cross-wiki upload from" in summary | "Uploaded a freely licensed work while editing" in summary)
- Special:AbuseFilter/156
summary irlike "(Cross-wiki upload from|logo|cropped)"
→summary irlike "(Cross-wiki upload from|Uploaded a freely licensed work while editing|logo|cropped)"
- Special:AbuseFilter/153
- After all, also your own works need to come with a free licence. De728631 (talk) 14:31, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- @De728631: It wouldn't be appropriate to discuss alternative wording here: that belongs in the proposal on COM:VPP where it can be more widely seen. I'll withdraw this request. --bjh21 (talk) 15:40, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg photo as a new user. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it per COM:HR, including EXIF metadata. If you use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:28, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- OK thanks. I've uploaded a bigger version, I was being web friendly! It is an old photo ,not originally digital, that I have re photographed on my phone to get a digital version. I have full rights to use it and for Wiki to use it too.
- I am Ben Weinreb's daughter and would like to try and slowly add some more information to the page and correct information if I see anything wrong.
- thanks for your help DebRah22 (talk) 13:55, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

- @Firesmasher231: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload png images as a new user. Such uploads of png images are not allowed at all. The following applies to each image. You indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a png image, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it per COM:HR, including any metadata, but if you were not the original image designer or photographer, that person may need to post permission on their official website or social media or send permission and image via VRT with a carbon copy to you. Also, it will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744), so you may want to upload a jpg or svg version, too.
