@Dhooper48: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer send the photo and permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:28, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Message: "You do not have the permission to review images, this edit was therefore disabled.
In case you aren't sure if your edit is constructive, it's best to ask for help, either on the talk page or on the help desk."
I removed the review template and successfully uploaded the file to File:Kaisuian Interior window crop.jpg
  • Comments: I'd really like an automated on-wiki way to do a lossless jpeg crop, or better yet wiki markup for displaying a subsection of the pixels/%dimensions of an image. It seems as though this should be possible without security problems, and there are tools under appropriate software licenses.
Failing that, though, I want to spend minimal time manually editing metadata which should in fact be ~identical. I recently cut out a section of a reviewed video, and someone turned up on my talk page questioning the copyright; this wasted the time of three editors. I don't see an easy way to remove the friction here, as the above feature request probably isn't easy :).
Thanks for all your work on improving the abuse filter, it's generally very good, and the problem here is sort of outside your scope. HLHJ (talk) 21:32, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
@HLHJ: Hi, and welcome. The "Filter description: License review by non-Image-reviewers" indicates that the filter thinks you were pretending to be a license reviewer on File:Kaisuian Interior window crop.jpg. Instead of doing that, you should have used the original {{Flickrreview}} tag. I reviewed it for you. Next time, please use CropTool for cropping, and consider using {{Extracted from}} and {{Image extracted}}, or dFX to preserve source links.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:55, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi, Jeff G, and thank you very much! CropTool is exactly what I needed. I will use it in the future, and that should take care of extracted-from links, too; I'd been inserting them manually, and without the template. This is much better. HLHJ (talk) 17:32, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Each jpg photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads smaller photos, they are copyright violations taken from the web. If you took the photos yourself, please upload the full-size originals of them, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photos, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the photographer(s) license them on their websites or social media or send the photos and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you. If you change the summaries or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:00, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Thanks for the reply. So, screenshots of my screen violate copyright or they should be jpgs? I'm not sure what I did wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by K894 (talk • contribs) 17:44, 12 February 2020‎ (UTC)
@K894: That depends on what was on your screen and who developed the software and created the words and images and where they were when they did it and their lifetimes and how they licensed their work. What did your screenshot show? Is the screenshot available elsewhere (and if so, exactly where)? What is "Page Forms Talk" and where exactly can we find it?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:52, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: It was a screenshot of a part of the Page Forms extension for MediaWiki with my problem circled in red. The image isn't anywhere else, since it was a screenshot taken by me. You can find my post here with my workaround. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by K894 (talk • contribs) 18:05, 12 February 2020 ‎ (UTC)
@K894: Ok, so the extension is licensed "GNU General Public License 2.0 or later" and you licensed your screenshots and questions "self|cc-by-sa-4.0". That takes care of the licensing, but you should see COM:DW and use our Upload Wizard instead. Also, something you may not have noticed: signing one's posts on talk pages here with ~~~~ helps people to find out who wrote something when, and it provides them with a link to one's user and talk pages (for further discussion).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 19:21, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

@A 8 2020: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg logo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The logo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller logo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin, so you may need to post COM:L compliant permission for such works on your website or social media presence or send permission via OTRS because we don't allow Fair Use here. Also, any raster image will look jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg version, too. If you want to use the file on English Wikipedia, please read WP:F. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:47, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

@Officialfankaar: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload png and smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photos as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Such uploads of png photos are not allowed at all. Also, the png version will look fuzzy when scaled down, so you may want to upload a jpg version, too. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:48, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

@Shadauwa: Hi, and welcome. — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:35, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
