- Edit kind: Trying to upload an up to date image. Abuse filter said it was not in line with Wikimedia Commons guidelines.
- Comments: We want to upload a recent image as the old one is up to date. Pitzhangermanor (talk) 11:09, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
- Pitzhangermanor: Who are "we"? Is your account used by more than one person?
- The filter you encountered prevents low-resolution uploads from newly registered users using the particular upload form that you used. The reason for this is that those overwhelmingly turn out to be copyright violations. If you did indeed personally create this photo, as you stated when you attempted to upload it ("This is my own work" and "I attest that I own the copyright on this file"), the expectation is that you should be able to provide a full-resolution version rather than the 1080×720 pixel miniature version that you tried to upload.
- In the description of the file, you entered "Image © Andy Stagg." Are you Andy Stagg? If not, the filter worked as intended by preventing you from uploading someone else's work as your own, which constitutes copyright infringement and is illegal. —LX (talk, contribs) 17:46, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

- @CodeRedKillah: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload png images as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The following applies to each image. You said it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a png image, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but if you were not the original image designer or photographer, that person may need to send permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. Each jpg photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you said it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads smaller photos, they are copyright violations taken from the web. If you took the photos yourself, please upload the full-size originals of them, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photos, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the photographer(s) send the photos and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you. - Edit kind: I was trying to vote for Picture of the Year while logged out, to see whether Special:AbuseFilter/77 works. I added the line # 123.201.225.49
- which is the correct format of a vote - and I got a remarkably opaque error message saying "An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, and it has been disallowed. If this edit is constructive, please report this error."
- Comments: There is a better error message shown when I try to vote while logged out by adding "# 123.201.225.49" - it says "Please remember that unregistered users are not allowed to vote." I think you should use the same error message here, instead of the current opaque one. 123.201.225.49 12:24, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

- @ManOtheMarsh: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you said it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer send the photo and permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. Re File:MPNC4.jpg please see the 5MB crosswiki upload cutoff bug. Which of the park staff activated the shutters or equivalents to snap these photos? — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 05:11, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

- I am afraid that the only reasonable way to transfer the file is to revdelete its initial zero-sized version prior to transfer. enwiki admin rights needed to do this. I do not think that disabling the Special:AbuseFilter/4 totally during the upload is an option. Also, I doubt if the file is worth uploading as I am quite sure that one day somebody will request a permission from is original author as no information about base map used here is provided. Ankry (talk) 07:39, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Ankry: Can FileImporter be exempted from Filter 4, or can FileImporter be configured to not import 0-length file description page revisions? — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:08, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- I have asked about it at mw:Topic:Uu97l6lo1hbh810q. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:36, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Jeff G.: The base question is: how fileimporter related edits differ from ordinary edits and whether the difference can be applied in AF? I have not enough information in this matter, but triggering this filter suggests that there is no easily identifiable difference. And enforcing the fileimporter's edits to omit the AF mechanism completely is not a matter of AF configuration, but of MediaWiki coding. And I do not think that we should unconditionally allow importing anything from any wiki.
- As I noted above, IMO the right way is that edits that are not to be imported, should be deleted from the source wiki prior to export. Ankry (talk) 14:49, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

- Comments: Please help me Cameronjford1 (talk) 18:01, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- Cameronjford1: The filter you encountered prevents low-resolution uploads from newly registered users using the particular upload form that you used. The reason for this is that those overwhelmingly turn out to be copyright violations.
- Did you actually personally create this logotype, as you claimed when attempting to upload it, and are you personally the copyright holder? If not, the filter worked as intended. If you did create the logo yourself or if you work for the logo's copyright holder, it would seem likely that your edits at en:Profitect violate English Wikipedia's rules on undisclosed conflicts of interest and the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use with respect to disclosure of paid editing. You may wish to read Commons:Guidance for paid editors, which includes information on sharing logotypes correctly. —LX (talk, contribs) 19:10, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

- @Easinegg: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you said it's your own work (are you Sage Sohier?). — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:21, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

- Whether or not that's the case here, your company does not appear to be notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia, which means that the logotype is outside of Wikimedia Commons' educational project scope.
- Your edits at en:User:Fhilli may violate English Wikipedia's rules on undisclosed conflicts of interest and the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use with respect to disclosure of paid editing. They definitely run afoul of en:Wikipedia:User pages#User pages that look like articles. If you did indeed personally create this photo, the expectation is that you should be able to provide a full-resolution version rather than the 400×400 pixel miniature version that you tried to upload.
- Also note that we generally do not need you to upload photographs of yourself. If you are planning to contribute actively to a Wikimedia project, you may upload a small number of personal photographs for use on your user page, but if all you want to do here is to promote yourself, then we don't need that. —LX (talk, contribs) 15:11, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
