Old OTRS pending

Dear OTRS crew,

I have just sent you an email in order to fix all the OTRS pending I had. In particular that of Luca Mannucci about the Guido Guerra Cinema in Montevarchi that, for a series of reasons, they were all deleted. Please, if you can, restore them all because the relative page on the italian wikipedia is now orphan of his illustrations. For any other problem please let me know. Thank you for your attention.--Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 17:36, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Is there something you need relevant to this noticeboard, or can you just wait for your ticket to be handled by an agent? -Andrew c (talk) 19:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
No problem to wait even because I delayed a lot to fix this issue. Anyway, for the good-sake of the project, I don't want to repeat the same mistakes I did last time. So I posted here the message in order to let you know that for my OTRS-pending I restarted the procedure to obtain the ticket. And to remind you to restore the deleted pictures when the OTRS procedure will come to an happy end. Actually, the restoring is quite urgent Blessing, my friends.--Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 12:53, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Ken Pontac OTRS

I sent an OTRS message three days ago for File:Ken Pontac.jpg, and it still has not been confirmed. In the past, images that I have sent to the OTRS system were confirmed without much hassle, but I doubt it should take this long to find an email and confirm it. Gage (talk) 18:46, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Your ticket is still open. We have a 16 day backlog. Please be more patient. We will handle your ticket in due time. -Andrew c (talk) 19:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
I've manually pulled the ticket. This is

Request for permission to use the jpg files from Wikipedia Website (File:Raymond_Cattell.jpg‎)

To whom it may concern, We would like to request the permission to use the picture of Dr. Raymond Cattell from the Wikipedia website(File name:Raymond_Cattell.jpg‎). This picture will be used in our recently accepted article by Lewis R. Goldberg entitled of “How to win a career achievement award in five easy lessons: A Bruno Klopfer award address,” which will be published as an award talk in the Journal of Personality Assessment (Volume 91, Number 6, November-December 2009). If there is any more information you need, please let us know.

Best, Wilson

We cannot give that sort of permission here. You are welcome to try to contact the photographer or copyright holder, who should be listed on the image description page. But, with that said, have you seen COM:REUSE? All images on the commons are licensed freely, and you are welcome to use them AS LONG as you follow the terms of the free licenses. -Andrew c (talk) 23:02, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
To clarify: you don't need "our" permission for that, because this image was licensed freely under Creative-Commons-SA-BY. You just have to credit the photographer and to mention the license. And it would be nice to notify on the respective image talkpage that you have used it (please provide URL, if possible). Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 06:13, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Where can I find the photographer or copyright holder information for File:Raymond_Cattell.jpg?

Hello, Andrew c and Túrelio

Thanks for your reply. I am still not quite clear where I can find the photographer or copyright holder information for the File: Raymond_Cattell.jpg. Do I credit "Cattell's Family?" as the copyright holder? Is there any specific example to show me what exactly I will say with the photo if we want to use it in our journal? I will appreciate for any information that might be helpful.

Best, Wilson Wei-Cheng(Wilson) Hsiao, Editorial Assistant Journal of Personality Assessment Department of Psychology, Mail Stop 948 University of Toledo 2801 Bancroft Street Toledo, OH 43606 phone: 419-530-4312; fax: 419-530-8479 journal:http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/00223891.asp

Hi Wilson,
in order to use image File:Raymond Cattell.jpg for the mentioned article, you don't need anyone's permission, because the image was already licensed freely by the rights holder "Cattell family" as stated in the image description. However, as the image was licensed under Creative-Commons-BY-SA, you need to credit the author and, especially in case you "distribute" the image itself, for example if the article will be available online, you need to mention the license and it's terms. The latter is done best by adding the license name "Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0" with an underlying link to the original license text, i.e. to here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/.
The attribution might be, for example:
  • (C) Cattell family
or
or
  • (C) Cattell family (Wikimedia-Commons)
I would recommend mentioning Wikimedia-Commons as it was your actual source. --Túrelio (talk) 07:19, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Túrelio,

Thank you very much for your information. I really appreciate.

Best, Wilson

You're welcome. --Túrelio (talk) 06:38, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

PERMISSION EMAIL for MAURYKAYE.JPG

As requested I have re-sent the PERMISSION EMAIL for MAURYKAYE.JPG to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org --Innermusic (talk) 07:24, 19 July

I have just searched for the image name ("Maurykaye.jpg") and your user name ("Innermusic") but I could not find any email matching one of these search patterns in permission-commons. Have you mentioned any of these terms in your email? —Pill (talk) 12:13, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Can someone check this ticket? It was added by the uploader, not by an OTRS volunteer. --Martin H. (talk) 11:28, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect permission email sent for File:Taiwan.jpg

At 13:37 UTC today, I sent an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the subject Permission for http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Taiwan.jpg. I incorrectly inserted a permission statement for a different Commons file. I was working on two different Flickr images and pasted in the wrong one. I will resend the correct permission statement and add Correct email permission statement to the subject line. My sincere apologies for this error and its added work to the OTRS team. --Captain-tucker (talk) 14:24, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for letting us know. To avoid confusion, I have now closed the ticket containing the wrong statement (and the one pointing that out). —Pill (talk) 12:01, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

File:Maurykaye.jpg

This image File:Maurykaye.jpg was marked as NO OTRS PERMISSION even though I sent the permission by email when the image was first uploaded. I have since sent it again, yet the tag remains. Please remove the tag. --Innermusic (talk) 03:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

What e-mail address did you send it to? Did you perchance send it to a non-English language info address? If not, and you mailed it to a permissions e-mail address, then I can confirm that we do not have any e-mails that reference "maurykaye.jpg" nor "Maury Kaye" or "Ernie Mills" nor are any of the e-mails that mention Concordia yours. So if you did send in an e-mail, either it didn't get to us, or you didn't mention anything notable in the text of the e-mail which would identify what image you are discussing. Do you remember what the subject line of your e-mail was? or is there a unique term I should be searching for?-Andrew c (talk) 13:23, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I searched for "Innermusic" and found one ticket from a few years ago dealing with text for an English Wikipedia page on a different individual, a Canadian pianist. Not sure if that is you, but we have zero other e-mails coming from that e-mail address. -Andrew c (talk) 13:27, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Seeking permission to reprint Steve Ruff's photo of Tripitaka Koreana

To whom it may concern,

I seek permission to reprint in a forthcoming textbook Steve Ruff's photo of Korea-Haeinsa-Tripitaka Koreana, on Wikimedia Commons at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Korea-Haeinsa-Tripitaka_Koreana-02.jpg. Any information about the process of securing such permission would be very much appreciated.

Please read the "License" section of the image page (the page you linked to). Note the license is Creative Commons Attribution 2.0. If you follow the terms of that license, you are free to use the image, and do not need any further permission. See COM:REUSE for more info. Note, we cannot offer legal advice, and it is up to you to determine the proper and legal way to reuse images. -Andrew c (talk) 14:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Alexandre, all three emails have been dealt with, you should have received two responses dated 06/30/2009. —Pill (talk) 11:35, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

OTRS to verify image is not in public domain?

Should I forward the email mentioned at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Charmed-dia-w.png to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, or is there some other OTRS department to handle this? Jappalang (talk) 03:01, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, you can send it there if you want, but all that'll happen is someone will reply to you saying "that isn't sufficient", and maybe post the DR page saying so as well :) Stifle (talk) 22:49, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Who may add {PermissionsOTRS}?

How should users tag images for which they have already sent a statement of permission to the OTRS team? Note that in the case in question the permission has also been verified by an OTRS volunteer. Are "normal" users allowed to use {PermissionsOTRS} or do they have to wait for OTRS volunteer to add that? (I ask because I only rarely work on Commons-related queues and am not so familiar with the processes on this project; the dewiki recommendation is that only OTRS volunteers should add it). Thanks in advance and hoping that my question isn't too out of place here, —Pill (talk) 17:04, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Users should tag the images as {{OTRS pending}}. OTRS volunteers will add the permission template once the permission has been verified, although in certain cases (e.g. blanket permissions or permission for vast numbers of images) the OTRS user may authorize an editor to add permission templates. Stifle (talk) 22:47, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you Stifle for your help. —Pill (talk) 11:35, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
If th permission has already been processed, you might want to ask an OTRS volunteer to add the template, as it is unlikely that somebody will work on the ticket again and tag the newly uploaded image. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 12:35, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Sure, but the question was whether the uploader himself may add the {PermissionOTRS} template. —Pill (talk) 15:14, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, basically he can, but that might lead to confusion (see one thread above this one, for example), so it is better to have an OTRS volunteer do it. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 18:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

OTRS check pls

Can someone take a look at the OTRS ticket that's present for File:Elisha Cuthbert in 2009.jpg? I'm looking at the source site (www.celebrity-gossip.net) for the image and it seems to be just another aggregator of images from elsewhere. I mean, I've found a pair of image on celebrity-gossip for Katherine Heigl which I know come from Getty Images, so I'm curious how this Elisha Cuthbert image can be used... Tabercil (talk) 02:16, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

The user forwarding the email correspondence to permissions-de received permission as a response to a request to gossipgirls.com, the email address provided on http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/site/contact/. The forwarded email states that Brand Technologies / Celebrity-Gossip.net is the "creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/celebrity_gallery/image_full/171136/". —Pill (talk) 08:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
The site credits the images in that set to Getty Images, not their own photographer. I can't find this specific image from the Getty site though, but there's one very similar photo. I suppose the photos not showing could be a sign of them having been released? --Para (talk) 11:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
To assist, the Katherine Heigl images I found on celebrity-gossip.net are this and this, which match with the first and fourth image from WireImage. Tabercil (talk) 12:45, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Need Two Images to be Ticketed with Sent Emails

Thank you. Chaplin62 (talk) 02:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

You sent in 3 e-mails regarding these images, and you received a reply to all 3 e-mails. Please read the e-mails, and follow the instructions. Make sure you scroll down to the bottom, because the OTRS system by default bottom posts and you may have missed that text (I know, the software is sort of stupid in that way). We can gladly continue processing the permission once you have met the conditions specified in those replies.-Andrew c (talk) 13:11, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Two emails actually, as the second one concerning the Palm Beach Mall doesn't count. The picture was deleted, possibly because the permission email was too vague. I sent the third email using recommend letter examples on Wikipedia, and the author again confirmed. The picture is still on Wikipedia.
I read the instructions and have previously done what they said. I uploaded the media and fitted them with appropriate licenses. Chaplin62 (talk) 02:13, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
What I was saying was that an agent responded to your e-mails, and stated that you needed a more specific permission statement. If we do not have a statement on file of the copyright holder clearly stating that they own the image and release it under a free license of their choosing, we cannot accept the image. The agent who replied to your ticket did not feel what you sent in was sufficient. So please, re-read the response. It explains it in more detail, and then contact the copyright holder to clear this matter up. These images will likely be deleted if no further action is taken on your part. -Andrew c (talk) 12:03, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
I have resent the emails and am now waiting for a comprehensive reply following these conditions. Please hangon the deletion if it goes into effect and if you have the power to do so. Chaplin62 (talk) 21:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Both emails have now been sent satisfying what was needed.Chaplin62 (talk) 20:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer needed

Greetings volunteers. Could one of you kindly check in permissions for File:Marcia_McNutt.jpg? Thanks very much. -SusanLesch (talk) 04:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

What do you want checked? We are currently backlogged, and will reach your ticket in due time. There appears to be at least 80+ e-mails in front of yours. So please be patient while we sort through those, and yours will be handled in due time. Thanks! If there is something specific you want checked, please reply with that. But please understand it would be unfair to those 80 other people to handle your ticket before theirs. -Andrew c (talk) 14:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I would like Dr. McNutt's reply to the Wikimedia Commons reflected on the file. I submitted this photo for DYK on the English Wikimedia main page thus prompt turnaround would help though I don't expect to jump the queue. I didn't know there was a queue until you said so. Thanks though. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

We are a little backlogged right now. There are currently 27 people's e-mails in front of yours, representing maybe 5-7 days. We appreciate your patience while we clear the backlogs and (eventually) reach your e-mail. Thanks. Also, from what you posted above, it looks like someone paid for a "personal web or print" license, but that isn't the same as the copyright holder making the image available for any purpose. I believe Giorgi Latsabidze's claim is invalid, and contradicts the information from Amy Brooke. We'd need Amy Brooke saying "I give my permission to Wikipedia and all other parties to use my photographs for any purposes". Permission for use on Wikipedia alone is not sufficient. Perhaps if they said "public domain" or chose a Creative Commons license, it would be clearer their intentions. -Andrew c (talk) 14:21, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Pilgrimsungdomsavdelning.png

Hello,

I was wondering if I could use the Pilgrimsungdomsavdelning.png. It is for a video game log. It will not be used for anything else.

Thank you.

Hi, according to the image description page, the file may be used under the conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 License (see File:Pilgrimsungdomsavdelning.png#Licensing:). The conditions are summarized here; the full legal code can be found here. In case the logo/emblem belongs to any company/organization/..., there may also be other rights that need to considered. Please also note that Commons:Help desk might be a better place to ask that sort of questions. —Pill (talk) 21:48, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

OTRS check pls on CD cover

I know you folks have a backlog of material to work through, but can someone take a look at the queue to see if they can find the email for File:Beyonce - I Am Sasha Fierce (Platinum Edition) (Official Album Cove) Thanx to RAUL LEGACY .jpg? I find it difficult to believe that we have permission from the copyright holder to use this CD cover... Tabercil (talk) 23:37, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and deleted that as a copyvio. This was uploaded today, but no OTRS permission e-mails mention Beyonce for 41 days. Furthermore, a blog wouldn't be a source for something official like this. It can be undeleted if OTRS permission does get sent in, but I don't think that is likely. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. -Andrew c (talk) 01:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Hello,

I am the owner of this picture and I want this removed. Someone else has put it on and gave away the rights, but that person didn't have the right.

Thanks in advance.

Armenica.org images

Could someone with OTRS access check what the ticket referenced in {{GFDL-Armenica}} (#2007010210006387) says exactly? In particular, does it apply to all images present at armenica.org as of 1 January 2007, or just to images transferred to Commons prior to that date? (I'm asking because File:Sanahin-g-plan-ares3-l.jpg and File:Hakhpat-gp-ares1-l.jpg were uploaded to Commons in 2009, but their originals on armenica.org have last-modified dates in 2006). —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 22:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Maybe OTRS was done differently 2 years ago, but I cannot see where an agent approved this ticket. But the way I read the Armenica tempalte you linked it, it sounds like images before 2007 are fine, but anything new is not covered by this ticket. -Andrew c (talk) 03:20, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question: what am I supposed to do with images that I believe have been present at armenica.org since 2006 but which were only uploaded to Commons this year? Keep or delete? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 11:44, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
From the way the template is phrased, it seems like those images would be fine. However, I'm not sure any of the images are fine as it doesn't look like an OTRS agent even approved any of this. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Perhaps I just misunderstand how OTRS tickets were handled 2.5 years ago. Perhaps a more senior OTRS volunteer could clear things up. IMO, it seems like those images are ok (that or we should delete ALL of the images as lacking full permission). -Andrew c (talk) 13:38, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Can someone check this ticket? An IP identifying him-/herself as the author is claiming it is a copyright violation, but it sound like a case of license cancellation. –Tryphon 19:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

That is not a permissions related ticket, per se. If I had to guess, I'd say it's in the Dutch language info queue, as I think they sometimes handle permission tickets there (which isn't appropriate, because now someone like myself with access to the permissions queues still cannot view this ticket). But I guess all that is besides the point. Anyone else want to try to access the ticket and see if it's in one of your queues (or an OTRS admin).-Andrew c (talk) 20:42, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
It's indeed in a subqueue of info-nl. We'll probably need to find someone who speaks Dutch. —Pill (talk) 15:24, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm able to see it but not understand it. Stifle (talk) 15:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I handled both tickets for this user. He uploaded two versions: One in color and one in black/white and he gave permissions for both of them. Now it looks like he's unhappy with the color photo and want to revoke the licence. The licences of both images are correct, so the only reason for deleting them would be out of compassion. (From what I understand, he doesn't like how he looks on the color picture). m:Mark W (Mwpnl) ¦ talk 16:08, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
In addition to the message of the user @ #File:Sander-jan-klerk.jpg (2). It was confirmed via OTRS that it was indeed him who uploaded both versions of the picture via Wikiportrait (the Dutch version of photosubmissions). It wasn't "somebody else". m:Mark W (Mwpnl) ¦ talk 16:15, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Need the assistance of a German OTRS volunteer

Hi, File:YQ Start Whitehorse 2005 0002.jpg and File:09 DawsonYukonRiverFrankTurner.jpg were originally uploaded to the German project by User:Magnol. The user is not the photographer (a professional named Carsten Thies) and said he was operating with the permission of Thies, whose email he has forwarded to the OTRS (all according to the Google translation of his user page at de—http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer_Diskussion:Magnol). However, there are no OTRS tickets attached to either of these images. Can a volunteer proficient in German check these images? Jappalang (talk) 03:29, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

The OTRS ticket in question is otrs:2007011710014911. In its original dewiki version, the image description page (de:File:YQ Start Whitehorse 2005 0002.jpg) contained a link to that ticket which seems to have got lost during the transfer to commons. The permission statement, however, doesn't suffice by current standards as the photographer did not specify any license -- he only agreed that the image may be published on Wikipedia. Note that I could not find any email regarding File:09 DawsonYukonRiverFrankTurner.jpg (an enwiki administrator may want to check if any ticket number was specified on the image page). —Pill (talk) 15:44, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
The deleted en.wiki file has not information at all, besides author and license tag, which was added after the upload. No lost OTRS ticket # or anything helpful.-Andrew c (talk) 16:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you both. I have tagged them both with {{Npd}}, referring to this thread. Jappalang (talk) 22:18, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I wrote an e-mail to Carsten Thies referring to his permission from 2007. Hopefully, he agrees with the CC-BY-SA 3.0 DE licence. Yellowcard (talk) 10:22, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I need to OTRS ticket/check for this photo of rock musican Kazik Staszewski.

My search for your username and the image name didn't bring up anything suitable. Did you send it to a permissions address (permission-commons ...)? If not, which one did you use? —Pill (talk) 15:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm very apologize. I'm sending now :) Thank You again. Bird of Hermes/Ukanio (talk) 9:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

In case you forgot...

You probably remember me from the "Need Two Images to be Ticketed with Sent Emails" thread a while back. Well, I resent the new email responses with the authors claiming they own the image and allow it to be under a free license few weeks ago, and I haven't even got a reply. Is it still pending? AZ'sReincarnation (talk) 02:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

It is, the OTRS agent who has dealt with these tickets is away until tomorrow. —Pill (talk) 12:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

A group of images being given by a friend for Wikipedia

Hi,

Two friends of mine would like to give a bunch of photos for Wikipedia. I would like to know if I can get them to give me a blanket email with the list of their images which can then be sent to the OTRS team? Is this appropriate? I will be processing the images (cropping, colour processing etc.), so can I then upload them with a note that they were given under the permitted license by so-and-so? Please advice. Prashanthns (talk) 12:36, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

You should make them send the permission e-mail. It is enough to send one e-mail based on Commons:Email templates. In this e-mail, they can list up all the images. You can edit those images and then upload; when uploading you can make a note referring to the otrs ticket. An agent will validate and then put the template and everything will be fine. ;-) Yellowcard (talk) 14:10, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Yellowcard. Will do. Prashanthns (talk) 17:18, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Can someone check the ticket for the original upload File:EmilyOsmentApr09.jpg for:

I think quite obvious: The images are not covered by the ticket, they are also not "own work" by Chane 815, maybe Chane 815 thinks he can upload images from websites with this ticket or the images are simply blatant copyright violations. --Martin H. (talk) 02:30, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree, the ticket linked to from these image pages has -- from what I can see - absolutely nothing to do with the respective images. As you suspect, it only contains a statement of permission regarding File:EmilyOsmentApr09.jpg. —Pill (talk) 15:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
✓ Done Thanks, I delete the images. --Martin H. (talk) 17:00, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

P.s.: I strongly suggest a bot that collects "OTRS permissions never edited by an OTRS volunteer", something similar to User:FlickreviewR/Images never editted by their reviewer. --Martin H. (talk) 17:05, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Beuys_Achberg taken by Rainer Rappman

I would like to use the rappman pictures for a book about the avant-garde (beuys is mentioned twice). It is an educational publication, consisting of a number of essays of university lecturers. I need to get permission through OTRS, could someone help me with this?

oscar

Hi Oscar, you do not "need to get permission through OTRS" -- OTRS is the system where the statement of permission from the photographer/copyright owner is documented. The conditions under which you may reuse the images depend on the license chosen by the photographer/copyright owner. The respective image page should tell you what license was selected. —Pill (talk) 15:39, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Does OTRS ticket for File:Vicuna1.jpg cover File:Vicuna2.jpg as well

The file File:Vicuna2.jpg claims that permission is covered in the ticket that is currently in place for File:Vicuna1.jpg. Could someone please check to see if both images should be included. File:Vicuna2.jpg currently has an {{Npd}} tag since 2009-07-01. Thanks --Captain-tucker (talk) 13:54, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

It does, I've added a link to the ticket. —Pill (talk) 15:19, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I received a thank you notice for the image, but the ticket was not added to the file. Gage (talk) 14:18, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

While the top line of the e-mail says "Thank you for your email.", this isn't a thank you e-mail. The OTRS system bottom posts. The actual message is at the BOTTOM of the e-mail you received. I know, it's stupid. So please, re-open the e-mail and scroll down to read the message to you. You need to reply with the file name/URL of the image in question. And while I see you have posted that name here, the agent handling your ticket may not read this message board, and I cannot steal the ticket from him or her myself. Thanks. -Andrew c (talk) 15:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

While we're on Vince Offer

I have a hard time believing that the Vince Offer, the source of File:Vince Offer.JPG, sent an email to OTRS for this image. Would someone mind verifying the OTRS and see if it came from the source, Vince Offer, or from the uploader? - ALLSTRecho wuz here 20:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

It came from a public relations firm stating that 1) they "currently represent Vince Offer," 2) that the image is "available for public domain," and 3) that Vince Offer is fine with that. —Pill (talk) 21:10, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. It is much appreciated. - ALLSTRecho wuz here 22:32, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Why is it licensed {{Cc-by-sa-1.0}} then? Should it be changed to public domain? Right now, the attribution part would be difficult to comply with anyway, because the author field seems inaccurate. –Tryphon 15:12, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Good question. I have to admit I'm a bit confused about the phrase "available for public domain" -- does "public domain" in this context necessarily mean "public domain" in a legal sense or could it be that it only means, say, that the image might be used freely? (As you have probably already noticed, I'm no native speaker of English.) If the former, the answer is yes. —Pill (talk) 18:48, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, if it's not that clear from the ticket which license they chose to release the image under, then maybe it isn't valid as is. Would it be possible to ask them for clarification? And no, I didn't notice you were not a native speaker; but then again, I'm no native speaker either :-)Tryphon 18:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
The relevant part of the email is "available for public domain" -- personally I'd interpret this as {PD-self}, but as I wrote, I'm not sure whether it can mean something else (such as "available for public use" [only] or something similar). —Pill (talk) 12:05, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Exactly what ticket are you looking at Phil? The wording I see in the ticket as referenced on the image is "I own the copyright" and "license it under the GFDL." --J.smith (talk) 19:56, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see, this ticket. --J.smith (talk) 19:58, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

deleting pics

how can i delete a picture and use another?

See Commons:Deletion policy for how to request the deletion of a picture and when this is appropriate. If you just want to "update" an existing version of an image, just use the "Upload a new version of this file" link on every image page (see, for instance, here). Note that the help desk is probably a more suitable place to ask such questions. —Pill (talk) 07:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Some permitted, some deleted, some pending

I uploaded a bunch of pictures a while ago and the original e-mail I forwarded was not sufficient so then I resent the template copyright declaration form as a blanket for all the files. However, only some of them have been approved while others remain pending and a handful have been deleted. Have I done something wrong again or is this an oversight? Would highly appreciate it if a OTRS volunteer could pls verify and follow up this picture on wikimedia-commons: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Genevieve30.jpg
I received the email permission from the owner of the picture with his clear statement of permission, and forwarded it to permissions-commons-at-wikimedia.org today, 14th August 2009. The picture was marked for speedy deletion a few days ago due to the missing permission. With the received email permission, the picture now has the right license and permission from the author/owner. --Amsaim (talk) 11:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Amsaim, in most cases there is no need to inform response team volunteers about mail sent to a permissions address. Permissions-commons currently has a backlog of around 150 tickets, so it may take some time until your email will be dealt with. Thanks for your understanding. —Pill (talk) 15:10, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi Pill, thnx for reply. I just hope that while the backlog is being worked on, the picture in question won't get deleted, because the picture has been marked for speedy deletion on August 11 and it's stated that the picture will be deleted within 7 days. —Amsaim (talk) 17:59, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
If your sent your permission email to OTRS then you should add an {{OTRS-pending}} tag to the image. This will inform everyone that you have a permission email in the OTRS queue. See Commons:OTRS#If_you_need_to_confirm_permission step #2. --Captain-tucker (talk) 19:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Let me know if you haven't received a response, I will resend it then. —Pill (talk) 15:24, 14 August 2009 (UTC) (Ah, and please do not resend emails. All incoming mail is stored in the OTRS system and will not get deleted, so it is better to ask here what happened to it.)

Your're right... I've found the e-mail. The author of that e-mail says it were impossible to verify the authorization unless it is not sent from the original adress of the copyright holder. But I only forwarded his mail which contains the permission and the image! No changes can be made to mails by only forwarding them. I really do not believe that all images here on Commons have been authorized by a handwritten document like the author suggests. The effort would be foolish. --88.130.218.95 10:01, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

—Pill (talk) 10:29, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

File:David Perry.jpg was uploaded with an OTRS ticket. In the photo, the subject is sitting and looking at a clear representation of an Earthworm Jim figure. Does the permission, TicketID 900572, cover the copyrighted figure as well? If it did not, is it appropriate to delete this photo and attach the ticket to File:David Perry (cropped).jpg instead, since the figure is minimal and trivial and can be cropped without disrupting the image of the subject (Perry)? Jappalang (talk) 22:23, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

The ticket does not directly mention the Earthworm Jim figure. It is my opinion as an editor that the figure would fall under De minimis. --J.smith (talk) 23:27, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

OTRS mentioned on deletion request

See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Zlotuptaka resize.jpg. Stifle (talk · contribs) mentions an OTRS message received. Does it look kosher? Can that deletion request be closed? Thanks. Wknight94 talk 20:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

IMO, the OTRS ticket does not qualify as permission for that image. But with that said, it does establish, to my standard of approval, the identity of the uploader. I'd also like to note that the reply could have been a little better on our end. I don't believe that we need OTRS for all this users uploads. What I have done in the past is this. I think to square things up, we should just have one declaration clearly stating that they are authorized to upload work from Green Development, and that they understand and agree to the terms of the licenses they may choose (in that commercial reuse and modification are options). Also, it may be helpful to have a Polish speaker communicate with the uploader. -Andrew c (talk) 20:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi and thank you for your mail. Please note that in most cases there is no need to inform the response team volunteers about the fact that you have sent an email and ask them to confirm permission. Hi everybody!

The permission to publish the file http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tulul_adh-Dhahab_and_Jabbok_in_spring.jpg under CC by-sa was given to me by the author, Emmanuel Rehfeld. To cite from his mail: "Gegen eine "gemeinfreie Veröffentlichung" der u.g. Bilder habe ich keinerlei Einwände. Ebenfalls stimme ich zu, die Veröffentlichung mit der genannten Lizenz "Creative Commons..." vorzunehmen."

(Note: Same situation as, for instance, with file http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tulul_adh-Dhahab_in_spring.jpg. The mail seems to have gone astray.)

Can anybody fix this problem? Email to permissions is underway.

I'll ask the agent who dealt with that ticket to comment in this discussion. --J.smith (talk) 18:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

—Pill (talk) 20:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

OTRS in deletion request

File:Yeoman.jpg

I don't understand what kind of permissions WMF needs for this file. We've tried to give permissions for this file by several emails and the volunteer says it's not adequate. If you just send us a statement worded how you want it, we'll sign it or not and send it back. I thought that the licences make the usage of the photo clear. Otherwise, simply delete it. Yeoman (talk) 12:44, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

First thing, we generally don't require permission for images that are "own work by uploader". But then again, it appears, from your e-mails, that this is not entirely self-made. Anyway, to answer your question, the last e-mail that was sent to you included a link to Commons:Email_templates. There is a general consent form for your use. Hope that helps. If you have the copyright holder forward that form with the information filled out, we can add a permission ticket to that file and all will be good. We just need to make sure that the copyright holder agrees to a free license of the file (which means third parties may re-use, modify, and possibly profit from the image). -Andrew c (talk) 14:50, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

This file's permission uses a template {{Autorisation-OTRS-GFDL}} which was deleted in june 2008. --Calimo (talk) 16:52, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

The template appears to have just been a basic OTRS permissions template just like {{PermissionOTRS}} (hence why it was deleted). That said, a quick look through the files history does not show where or by whom it was added. Let me do some digging around in OTRS and see if I can come up with a ticket number. Tiptoety talk 19:11, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
After a short search, I turned up nothing. There appears to be no ticket. Tiptoety talk 19:33, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Ticket #2007021410011212

Ticket #2007021410011212 is used on File:Arno_Breker_Adolf_Hitler(1938).jpg. Does it provide answers to the following questions :

  • Who is the E-mail sender ? (is it the museum ? is it Marco Verlag ? or both ?)
  • Who is the copyright holder of the sculpture ?
  • Who is the copyright holder of the photograph ?
  • What is the photographer's name ?
  • "tot publicatie in Wikipedia" means "Wikipedia only" doesn't it? Is there any mention of a Creative Commons license in the mail ?

If the photographer's name is not provided, do we have the photographer's permission to use his work anonymously ? Or is this file infringing the photographer's right to have his name credited ?

Teofilo (talk) 10:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

That ticket is not a "permissions" ticket, in that it isn't included in the permissions queue. Also, it states it was transferred from nl which leads me to believe it is most likely in info-nl. Could someone with access to that check? And most likely we need a Dutch speaker. -Andrew c (talk) 13:48, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Dutch speaker needed, ticket is in info-nl. The only thing I understand is a note left by an OTRS volunteer stating that "permission is OK." —Pill (talk) 09:10, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

CES

File:Prowiki.jpg has OTRS permission {{PermissionOTRS|id=2009060410032431}}. Other two images from the same source and the same uploader (File:CES2.jpg and File:CES3.jpg) haven't OTRS ticket and their license data are suspicious. Please verify if the OTRS permision refers to them too. --ŠJů (talk) 20:23, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Not in the permission queues. I'd guess info-cs. Any Czech OTRS agents? I'll contact the individual who added the OTRS ticket to the file. -Andrew c (talk) 20:43, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Hello, the permission only exists for the first mentioned file, whereas for the others doesn't. I'll contact the uploader later to sort this thing out. -- Mercy (|) 06:40, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

photo woodstock

Hallo, I would like to use one photo from woodstock 69 wiki coment. we wanted to use it in our magazin Report, is it posible? www.report.cz please reply to my mail obchod@ireport.cz Thank a lot!Dana

What photo are you referring to? Have you see COM:REUSE. All our images are licensed under a free license, and you don't need specific permission from us to reuse them, as long as you follow the terms of the licenses. Please check the specific license in use for the image in question. -Andrew c (talk) 13:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

in picture File:PTXMII.jpg, are one OTRS-ticket number, can somebody check--Motopark (talk) 15:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

It's not what I would call an 'ideal' release(link), but it does exist. I put the template on the image so the bots would recognize it. --J.smith (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
An Italian speaker would be appreciated. Most of the e-mail is in English, but a section is in Italian and it would make me feel better knowing what that part said. --J.smith (talk) 15:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Permission to use picture of stickleback stamp in book published by University?

This image?

Hi!

I'm new to using Wikimedia commons pictures and wonder whether I can publish this picture in a book that will be printed by Uppsala University? I have tried e-mailing Faroe Postal services but did not get an answer. Help anyone?

OTRS ticket #2006101710008538

Malin.

I'm guessing you mean "File:Faroe stamp 248 stickleback (gasterosteus aculeatus).gif"? If so, then most likely yes. "Public Domain" would mean there are no restrictions on use. --J.smith (talk) 20:41, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's the stamp!/Malin.

When I said "No restrictions on use" - let me clarify... I mean no copyright restrictions. There might be other restrictions in play - I know a lot of countries restrict how you can use official documents like stamps. You would need to consult an expert in the field to be sure. --J.smith (talk) 21:44, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

OTRS templates and checking licenses

Is there a bot that checks use of the OTRS template? Alternatively, would it be possible for OTRS tickets to make limited information publicly available? (ticket number, file name/article name, a flag indicating successfully lodged license information, etc)

My concern is that I've seen a fair number of OTRS templates used on commons, and it would be quite easy to mistakenly or deliberately place one via cut and paste on a new file, for which the ticket number is not valid. I realise that it is possible to request information on this noticeboard, but it would be good for users to be able to check licenses by clicking on the ticket number and double checking that it does in fact apply to the file they were viewing. Ozhiker (talk) 09:00, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

For confidentiality reasons, this is not a viable option. The OTRS tickets are simply emails and there is no automated way to extract the file/license/etc. from the ticket.
As a general rule, if the ticket was added by an OTRS agent (there's a list at m:OTRS/personnel and most of us are in the appropriate category), then it's OK. If it wasn't, you should check here. If you are getting slow replies, leave a message for an agent. Stifle (talk) 09:13, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi OTRS: This file was reposted for deletion today, so I've resent the original e-mail containing an OTRS ticket number that can be assigned to the file, on the e-mail sent to me by your group. The ticket number, for your ref., was Ticket#2009073110048881 .

Images of Paintings by Georges Emile Lebacq

There is currently a deletion discussion taking place for a large number of images of paintings by artist Georges Emile Lebacq (See: Commons:Deletion requests/Paintings of artist Georges Emile Lebacq). The deletion discussion is on hold pending OTRS verification as the user who uploaded the images claims to be a relative of the artist and the beneficiary of the copyrights to the paintings. This is just a friendly notice that permission should be coming through permissions-fr.

Français : Si il y a quelqu’un disponible qui parle anglais et français, leur aide serait beaucoup apprécier car la permission sera probablement en français mais la discussion est en anglais.

OTRS Pending

I've sent an e-mail to OTRS at 11/08 and after some bot notifications in my talk page, I think it was not received, so I'm sending it again now.

Thanks, Helder 17:44, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I have no record of anything sent 11/08 (sorry). I did find something back in April 09 related to Category:GeoGebra, but it appears those images have OTRS tickets attached to them already, and weren't part of the images mentioned in the warnings on your talk page. Anyway, I also see something you sent 21 days ago. But it was sent, in English, to the Portuguese e-mail address. I've merged your latest e-mail with the one from 21 days ago, and moved it to the general Commons queue. Perhaps that may help explain part of the delay in reply, as we don't have many Portuguese language volunteers. For the time being, please accept out apologies, and please be patient while the agents work through the backlog and reach your ticket. Thanks.-Andrew c (talk) 21:44, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
I didn't notice I've sent the mail in English to the Portuguese volunteers I'm sorry for that... (Actually, my second try was also to permissions-commons-pt@... =S) Anyway, the new images are those of the Category:GeoGebra icons. Now I'm sending it to permissions-commons@... Helder 22:20, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
No need to send again. That will just add confusion. I've already moved the e-mail out out -pt, so no worries there. All we have to do now is "wait" for an agent, which hopefully won't be long. Thanks. -Andrew c (talk) 22:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Sorry... disconsider my 3rd e-mail then... And thank you for your help!
By the way, isn't possible to make the bot send only one edit with all the images listed at once, instead of 50 individual edits? (this is bad for email notifications...) Helder 23:04, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
You'll have to put that question to User:Hersfold, and I suspect the answer will be negative. Stifle (talk) 13:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Has an OTRS template but the ticket number xxxxxx and the license tag "ineligible for copyright", which is curious for a BLP portrait. Can someone please check whether there was an OTRS for this or, if not, delete the picture? Thanks. Hekerui (talk) 19:54, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

OTRS tag was added by the uploader. I've removed the tag, and added a NPD tag (speedy deletable in 7 days if no permission is sent). Default speedy message left on user talk. We may want to keep an eye on it to see if the speedy tag is removed or not. We should consider this resolved when either the permission is sent in or, more likely, when the image is deleted. BTW, I also searched OTRS and found nothing from with in the upload period related to "GULZAR".-Andrew c (talk) 21:35, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. It's a copyvio of http://www.sikh-heritage.co.uk/arts/gulzar/gulzars.jpg, so it could even be treated as such, right? Hekerui (talk) 21:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps the uploader meant to add an OTRS-pending template? I was assuming good faith in that the uploader had added an OTRS template to the image based on some sort of permission received, even if it was the wrong template. Therefore, I was willing to wait the 7 days to see if we get a response. If an another admin wants to assume bad faith, or thinks it's important to protect the copyright, then feel free to delete now. I wouldn't mind. If not, we'll just wait and see what happens. Thanks for your input. -Andrew c (talk) 23:03, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

File:Carlos_H_Reyes.jpg

hi, i'm just wondering if an OTRS volunteer could update the OTRS pending tag for File:Carlos_H_Reyes.jpg. The copyright holder emailed directly to the permissions email address with cc to me, so IMHO this should be straightforward. i uploaded the file several days ago. Thanks in advance. Boud (talk) 22:06, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I see that we received the e-mail, but it hasn't been handled by an agent yet. This is because there is currently a 10 day backlog. Please understand that it would not be fair to the 60 e-mails in front of you if we skipped them and answered you first. So please be patient, and an agent will get to your ticket in due time. Please accept our apologizes for the wait. Thanks.-Andrew c (talk) 23:06, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Also, I noted the image is from flickr. For Flickr images, if you can write the uploader, and kindly request that they simply change the license from (c) All rights reserved, to either CC-BY or CC-SA-BY (one of the 2 free licenses flickr offers that is compatible with the Commons), then the much faster, flickr review process can handle the permission. In fact, you don't have to upload images that are licensed correctly on flickr, because we have at least 2 bots that can upload, and verify permissions, automatically. Anyway, just throwing that out there. -Andrew c (talk) 23:20, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the rapid feedback - no problem about waiting in the queue. i know that we're all volunteers here. As for flickr licensing, as long as this can be done for individual photos, probably the photo author would be happy to do that for future individual photos, but i think that generically, she would prefer CC-BY-SA-NC, which is why the flickr mechanism needs to be possible for individual photos. Anyway, i'll discuss it with her if i think another photo would be useful for Commons. Thanks for the idea. Boud (talk) 23:53, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Flickr image licenses can be changed either individually or prospectively for all uploads. As Andrew c says, it's infinitely better if you just get the copyright holder to amend the license on Flickr. Stifle (talk) 13:29, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

LUBILOSA and Green Muscle logos

Category:OTRS pending German language agent needed

Category:OTRS pending has a number of really old OTRS received templated images. I started going through the oldest ones, and noticed they were all in German. I deleted one that didn't have any replies since last December, but the next one I checked had some notes and activity in June (in German). So I was wondering if there are any OTRS agent who are also Commons admins who understand German enough to go through the oldest categories in Category:OTRS pending, and start deleting images that still don't have adequate permission, and that we've given sufficient time for correspondence. Thanks! -Andrew c (talk) 23:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
