Archiving bot not working

Hi, does anyone know why months-old discussions at Commons:De Kroeg are not archived anymore? The last time was done by ArchiverBot on 7 October 2018. --HyperGaruda (talk) 21:38, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

@HyperGaruda: Hopefully, this edit will fix it by letting the bot ignore what appears to be a request for speedy deletion.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 04:54, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thanks for trying, but it did not seem to have an effect. I just found out that ArchiverBot generates a log file for its archiving activities and it gives an error saying among others editpage: abusefilter-warning / Hit AbuseFilter: Adding OTRS permission by non-OTRS member. While the page's revision history showed no such filter being triggered, a link to an OTRS ticket was added by an OTRS member to a post written by a non-OTRS member. I removed the link, so let's see in about 2½ hours if it worked. --HyperGaruda (talk) 05:34, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
And it is working again. --HyperGaruda (talk) 08:15, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello. There are wrong categories in Special:WantedCategories

  1. Category:Q61788182 (given name)‏‎ (14 members):Wrong name
  2. Category:ACC containing 𦥑‏‎‏‎ (14 members):can not be created

Please correct. Thanks ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 16:39, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

I fixed the first one. Not sure what the second is supposed to be. --ghouston (talk) 10:05, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

"List" tab of Watchlist on mobile view

I realized that, on mobile view, the "List" tab of Special:Watchlist can list only pages on the main namespace (or "Gallery", according to Help:Namespaces). My "List" tab is totally blank on mobile view; it doesn't list files or pages on "Commons" namespace. How is the mobile Watchlist very different from the desktop Watchlist? Odd behaviour?

Something odd with the headers on Category:Media needing categories as of 16 March 2019 (and other dates) on my system. I see

I cannot see any recent edits in Template:UncategorizedHeader, so not sure what's up. Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:18, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

@4nn1l2: Thanks. Why do people tinkle with such pages... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:55, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

This warning on Video2Commons doesn't seem to make much sense

When uploading using the Video2Commons tool I seem to get a warning that uploads can't be aborted due to technical limitations but an "Abort" button still appears. How can I notify any of this tool's maintainers about this apparent contradiction? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:47, 2 March 2019 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: > How can I notify any of this tool's maintainer
In the order of preference:
Method 1: https://github.com/toolforge/video2commons/issues
Method 2: Commons talk:Video2commons
Method 3: User talk:Zhuyifei1999
Method 4: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/?project=video2commons
However, I will probably be extremely busy till mid May.
Regarding this specific issue, the cost of having the button hidden far outweighs the benefit, IMO. The note just tells you it won't work, and just because it is shown doesn't mean it will work. I would very much prefer if it can be aborted during upload though. The technical limitation is with how celery task abortion works. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 06:50, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Personally I would prefer allowing uploads to be aborted but if there are technical restraints I can understand. Also this is a volunteer project so I don't expect you to fix anything "soon" so enjoy your time with other hobbies and obligations. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 07:23, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Number of distinct files in a category tree

Is there a tool that scans for example "Category:Tolyatti" and all of its sub-categories and then tells me how many distinct media files are in this category tree? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 13:39, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

User talk archiving

I'm trying to set up archiving at User talk:Marchjuly. I think I've gotten the page to archive correctly, but I cannot figure how to get {{Archive box}} to work correctly. Can the archive box be set up to automatically list archives by month or do links to the archived pages need to be added manually? If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know and also please suggest a possible fix. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:45, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: {{Archive box}} is only so smart. If you want to keep archiving to pages of the form "User talk:Marchjuly/%(year)d/%(monthname)s", you will need to start using syntax "{{archive box|[[User talk:Marchjuly/2013/December|2013/December]]}}" with appropriate formatting or "{{archive box|{{Special:Prefixindex/{{TALKPAGENAME}}/}}}}", or copy my solutions from User talk:Jeff G.#Welcome to my user talk page! and User:Jeff G.#Talk subpages. If not, you could go with just numbered archives and leave the archive box alone.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:09, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the suggestions. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:19, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: You're welcome.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 04:30, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Is there a way to tweak the archive box syntax using the "TALKPAGENAME" syntax so that the entire list is not always visible? i couldn't find a |show= parameter. Is there also any way customize to have the links to the archive pages so that they are not displayed vertially be perhaps horizontally by year? for example, one line for each year with the links to the individual pages for that year listed also in the same line. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:37, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: No and yes. For the first two years, it could look like this:
  — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 04:48, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks again Jeff G. That seems to mean that I need to manually format the archive box myself each time and that it cannot be hidden, right?
Finally, one last question. I'm also curious as to why one post from October 2017 which is still on my user talk was not archived at User talk:Marchjuly/2017/October with the other post from the same month. Do you have any idea why this might've happened? Is it because the archiving is set to keep to only begin once more than five threads have been added to the page? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: If you want something like what you use on enwiki, then have a look here. — JJMC89(T·C) 05:02, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks JJMC89. That's what I was aiming for, but couldn't figure out how to make it work on Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:12, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: "chances are that it fails to recognize signatures and/or timestamps in that section" per User:ArchiverBot#Archiving not done on a certain section of a page. It appears the bot doesn't recognize {{Unsigned2}}. You could read the rest of the section I quoted from or reply in the unarchived section.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 05:16, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for that bit of info Jeff G. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:19, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: You're welcome. You should be able to use {{Archives by months}} here.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 05:22, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Important Edit

Hello. Please respond to this request ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 12:59, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Pages visited via diff remain bolded

Normally, on my watchlist, "Changes to pages [I] haven't visited since the changes occurred are in bold, with solid markers." Today, however, visiting the latest revision of a page via diff doesn't seem to cause the name of that page to be unbolded or have an empty marker; I have to visit the page proper to make that happen. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:51, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Same for me. Pressing diff does not unbold the entry Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:58, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
This seems less of a problem now, but still a problem. Sometimes, clicking the "history" tab or purging the page will hasten the unbolding. I suspect a problem with the job queue.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:53, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: I found out in the past couple of days that when I unwatch and then watch a stubborn bolded page, that resolves the symptom for the current revision of that page better (with a higher success rate indistinguishable from 100%) than refreshing and purging. Of course, that is just a workaround and it doesn't scale.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:29, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Is Phabricator down for anyone else? I've been getting "Error: 503, Backend fetch failed" for 3 hours. :(   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:22, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

I want to nominate files from http://farsi.khamenei.ir for deletion (Per this discussion). Is there anyone who could help me technically to find and nominate these files? Hanooz 18:24, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

@Hanooz: ✓ Done. I used this search and COM:VFC to report them as copyvios.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 05:11, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Pinging @4nn1l2, Donald Trung, who were involved in the initial discussion.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:12, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
From what I can remember one language version of the website (either the English or Persian one) had a free license but the other one didn't and people imported images from the wrong one so I'd say that we should follow the precautionary principle. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 13:31, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Unknown error (Special:UploadWizard)

Hello! The file is loaded successfully, but after loading (Special:UploadWizard) it writes such an error. What is this mistake (Key not found in temporary storage)?? — Niklitov (talk) 13:41, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Missing file

For File:Ja-将軍.oga, the transcode fails. This seems to be because the original file itself doesn't exist anymore. It can't be that the file was originally bad, since it's been uploaded since 2007 and used in a bunch of places. Is this somehow related to the move to MP3? In the past I've noticed some missing revisions on some images, but never the main file itself. Opencooper (talk) 01:22, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Error message

Hello. For a couple of days, an error message appears in a red box on the right every time I access a page of Commons. The error message disappears after a couple of seconds. It starts with "ReferenceError: conf is not defined". I have not changed anything in my preferences, so I cannot find the cause of it. I do not have any problem on other Wikimedia websites. Do you know how to solve this problem? Thank you for your help. BrightRaven (talk) 12:55, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Missing audio player

In the category Category:Lingua Libre pronunciation-tgl, two of the files have been renamed (tgl changed to bcl), and the audio player no longer shows up. The files can still be downloaded. What's going on? --ghouston (talk) 04:33, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

Maybe a caching issue. No problems for me. 4nn1l2 (talk) 09:00, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it has come right. I purged the pages with no effect. I think it may have been something to do with the Transcode status. --ghouston (talk) 00:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Upload Wizard - bug in dates

Upload Wizard mistakes the date of upload with the date od creating. ~Cybularny Speak? 18:22, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Update: In fact it's taking the last modification date as the date of creation. ~Cybularny Speak? 00:06, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
@Cybularny: This is fixed now. Kaldari (talk) 07:38, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

UploadWizard and date

Recently I’ve noticed a few new files in categories I watch that might well have been affected by this issue: date in info section matching the upload timestamp but with an earlier date in the EXIF. (I haven’t used the Wizard myself recently.)—Odysseus1479 (talk) 22:51, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes I noticed it, thanks you Kaldari Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:03, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

CatScan and Petscan

In the Gadgets panel of my Preferences the “updated Catscan tool” link for CatScan V3.0 goes to a 503 error page. I guess the tool has been superseded, because I get a menu item called “PetScan” when I activate the Gadget (and it works fine). Where does one go to get the description & links updated? Is there a help page for PetScan?

Also, I notice I still have a “CatScan” menu item, whether or not the Gadget is on, that goes to exactly the same place AFAICT. But unlike the “PetScan” item it doesn’t pre-fill the form correctly: it starts from commons.wikipedia and, when coming from a Category page, adds an extra “Category:” prefix to the name. Assuming that were fixed, would there be any need for the Gadget? Or is CatScan going to be resurrected, the PetScan redirection being temporary?—Odysseus1479 (talk) 05:32, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

There's a PetScan manual at meta:PetScan. Petscan is a rewrite of CatScan (see http://magnusmanske.de/wordpress/?p=385), I assume CatScan isn't coming back. --ghouston (talk) 08:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
The description of the gadget can be fixed by editing MediaWiki:Gadget-CatScan2-link. Please feel free to make an edit request at its talk page. I have that page in my watchlist and will fulfil edit requests. 4nn1l2 (talk) 09:08, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
@Odysseus1479: I fixed the description of the PetScan tool in the Gadgets panel of Preferences: Special:Diff/347467189.
The ever-present and malfunctioning CatScan menu item comes from the "ExtraTabs2" tool in your Preferences. I made a request to remove CatScan from Help:Gadget-ExtraTabs2 (Special:Diff/347467851) to solve the problem of redundancy. 4nn1l2 (talk) 13:33, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for following up both issues, @4nn1l2; apologies for not responding sooner.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 20:27, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
