Can you provide better support for experienced users

Would it be possible to provide an option to switch to a wiki-markup based editor for descriptions and licence information (like the old upload form), but with the wizard which supports multiple uploads. If I'm uploading multiple files I want to write the information once, copy it to each file and then make changes relevant to each file. What I don't want to have to do is navigate a clunky, patronising, noob-oriented wizard page, clicking in multiple boxes and scroll through to find what needs to be changed. Right now I'm still using the old wizard, but it seems quite ironic that power users are forced to use the inferior, one-file-at-a-time interface. --W. D. The Multi Uploadhelper should have a review page to edit new

The Multi Uploadhelper could have a final review page to edit newly uploaded pictures to correct the descriptions. I dont not see that yet, but it can be done easily from the personal list of contributions/uploads, so all is fine ... p Pelikana (talk) 23:31, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Copy presets and after upload choices

After gaining some experience with the wizard file uploads, please consider the following changes.

Copy fields feature:

1. Please consider adding some clarification alongside the copy checkboxes. Currently, the pre checked options is pre-guessing what a user wants. This misguides experienced users and confuses those unfamiliar with some of the checked options.

1a. Either pre-check only the two most important options, these being the image date and the category. Date relates to copyright issues and category reminds users to apply them.

1b. Leave all options unchecked.

Screen display after successful uploading:

2. Upload process scrolls to the top on completion while the selection buttons are at the bottom of the screen. When uploading 25-50 images, this is very awkward.

2a. Display a duplicate set of buttons at the top of the page as well.

2b. Direct focus to the buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Continue options after successful upload:

3. Guiding the user to the "Wiki home page" after completion of the upload process is a dead end.

3a. Please change the "go to wiki home page" button and instead, guide the user the first, or the last specified category. At least, this would lead users to some of their uploaded work.

3b. If no category is selected, this should guide the uploader to the "images missing categories" page of the day. This would further enforce users to apply categories.

no categories bug?

I copied category from the first file to the other files but when clicking next, it mentioned that some did not have categories? Mahanga (Talk) 03:30, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Same problem. When I upload multiple photos, all of which go in the same categories, enter the categories for the first photo, then use the "Copy information to uploads below" tool, the categories all show up nicely in the later photos. However, when I click "Next", I get a pop-up box: "Warning: It is recommended that you fill in a category for your uploads. Do you want to continue without filling all the fields?". The problem doesn't occur if I've added additional categories for the later photos. Ammodramus (talk) 11:15, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Inability to retry with correct information filled in

Since I did not type .jpeg in my file's name, I lost all of the work I put in attempt to upload my file. Now I will need to start over from the beginning if I wish to retry. The Sackinator (talk) 23:53, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

You seem to be describing the opposite of what happens: you should not enter the file extension in the title, as far as I know. It would be useful to know what you did exactly, step by step. --Nemo 08:51, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Jamming upload

I tried to download 19 pictures with this wizard today (some minutes ago), and even though I have made the file sizes much smaller (just 50-150 kB/ photo) than the original raw photo the web page seems to jam, does not give any response received in 15 minutes. All requested field are filled. Other webpages work ok, also in Commons. Paju (talk) 19:48, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

There have been a number of reports about this in the issue tracker, but all have been fixed: bugzilla:42640, bugzilla:26592, bugzilla:26004. If the problem is reproducible, it would be nice if somebody who has this issue could send the software bug to the 'Bugzilla' bug tracker by following the instructions How to report a bug, in this case under the product 'MediaWiki Extensions' and the component 'UploadWizard' (You can use this direct link if you have a Bugzilla account). This is to make developers of the software aware of the issue. If you have done so, please paste the number of the bug report (or the link) here, so others can also inform themselves about the bug's status. Je pense qu'il serait intéressant de pouvoir regrouper les fichiers importés en groupes lors de l'étape de la licence : plusieurs groupes de fichiers relativement similaires peuvent pour autant avoir des sources différentes, même légèrement, mais suffisamment proches pour vouloir les importer simultanément. ambiguous copyright and tags

Uploading a copy of a page in a Minutes book, dated 1833 so old enough to be out of date related copyright restrictions, I tried to find a suitable description in the "Not my own work" option. First try, I wrote my own text stating the age of the document. Failed. The system demands standardised tags. Second try, I used the PD-old tag. Failed. The system demanded an additional tag to cover USA. So I reverted to the My Own Work option since the copy was a photo I had taken of the relevant page. This type of image is ambiguous for copyright anyway. In this case, I have legitimate access to the book as an office holder in the relevant organisation. And sample pages have been published in other contexts. Would it help to have an additional category to cover copies an uploader has created of manuscripts, photographs, etc., dating from before the year 1900? AFAIK the wizard already has the relevant tag for pre-1923 stuff, so I don't understand what else you were looking for (exact steps to reprouce welcome). Also, do you mean another radio button where you select my own work/other or another copyright tag in the dropdown? --Nemo 08:51, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Fehlermeldung

wenn ich meine hochzuladen Dateien temporär auf den Server geladen und die entsprechenden Formulare ausgefüllt habe und den Hochladevorgang endlich durch "Weiter" abschließen möchte bekomme ich seit einiger Zeit immer wieder Fehlermeldungen. finding lists of historical sites

I am having trouble locating lists of historical sites for cities and countries outside of the U.S. Why are links to this not a primary part of the contest upload page?

La fotografía sube, pero luego el proceso no continúa...

Quiero saber porqué luego de que sube la fotografía, no puedo utilizarla. Ya me pasó con dos o tres que subí...pero luego como no me aparecen las otras ventanas para poder utilizar la fotografía para alguna página de wikipedia...me quedo trabado. uploading files

Filename

When I upload multibple files with Upload Wizard, the Upload Wizard gives the first file the name of the last file. It happened to me all the time the last weeks. As a consequence, when I don't change the first file name, the file is overwitten by the last file, and I can't upload the first file again because it says: the file is already uploaded.
