- Neutral Too be honest: When I look at the cracks in the paint at 100%, I get the impression that it's not as sharp as it could be. Parts of the jacket of the man sitting on the bench on the right look blurry too, but of course it's hard to determine what's the picture and what's the replication without beeing able to see the original. All in all, I fail to see the "wow" in this digital replication – the sheer size of 11,915 × 7,254 pixels is nice, but not too unusual anymore nowadays. --El Grafo (talk) 17:31, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose A nice documentary image, but imho the very foggy air and sky leads to missing contrast. Partly the missing contrast could be fixed but all in all the light is not sufficient for a featured picture. Sometimes foggy air can transport a certain (mystic) message but with the motive at hand I would expect a colorful and brilliant image which is not possible under this conditions. --Tuxyso (talk) 17:58, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose It's a well-chosen image of an (ahem) echt-German townscape, but ... while it has great EV for this it is also compositionally unexceptional (the technical way of saying "no wow") and in fact some of the foliage in the front is a little unsharp. Lovely color, I will say. Daniel Case (talk) 00:25, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- I understand your first point. "No wow" is a subjective matter, unfortunately I cannot change it - In the past I've also opposed due to "too less Wow", but most of these cases were less important single buildings photographed at neutral light. The point with the foliage is unclear to me: The foliage at the left front has nothing to do with the main motive (panoramic view) but has only the function to get an impression of the spatial distances - I see no reason why these should be as sharp as the houses. Does the term echt-German really exist?--Tuxyso (talk) 05:40, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
OpposeThe underexposed foliage on left top and bottom is distracting. I prefer this AOV. JKadavoor Jee 07:02, 24 May 2013 (UTC)- Sorry, but the panorama you linked to is not convincing, especially regarding quality, composition is also not concvincing. I took a similar shot but unfortunately with distracting cars. I cannot really understand why the reviewers here focus on the (unimportant) leafs rather than on the motive. The leafs function only as framing to the panoramic view - this a quite common shooting techique (see comment above regarding spatial distances). Done Nonetheless I have slightly brightened the leafs in the foreground. --Tuxyso (talk) 07:21, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- Leaves are OK now. I like your other composition more; the green foliage is well distributed than center weighted here. - Comment the duck not being in its natural habitat does not adversely affect the photo; in fact, in quite an opposite fashion it contributes to the artistic and scientific value of the piece. the duck is standing on paving stones, placed by humans. creatures such as mallards have quite happily integrated themselves into our artificial world. thus, in a way, these paving stones are no less this mallard's habitat than the man-made canal on which it swims. 86.172.85.134 20:38, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose The perspective looks strange to me. There's something about the corrections that have been applied to it that makes the Basilica look like it's leaning to the right. Or maybe it's in the original image. It may just be me, but if I give it a rotate of about 0.8 of a degree, it looks more 'natural'. Cheers, Ben Aveling 07:09, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- Info Some plants such as corn have evolved some modifications to photosynthesis, increasing its efficiency by separating the light reactions (oxygen generating phase) from the dark reactions (sugar generating phase). One modification is C4 photosynthesis (The NADP-ME version is depicted here). C4 photosynthesis is complicated. I made this poster to make it slightly more understandable. :)

- Oppose Honestly spoken: Yes, this picture is on the one hand too complicated (much text, not very clearly represented - one have too look very closely), but on the other side it is not sufficient presented in a biochemical way, e. g. the PEPCK- and the ME-NAD-typ are neglected impo). What we have here is maybe a good picture for a poster, but I think for a wiki-article it is not suitable. --Yikrazuul (talk) 17:09, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- I focused on the NADP-ME type, because in previous diagrams, whenever I tried to do a "generic" version of a pathway, it never turned out well. This time I just did corn NADP-ME because corn is the most well known C4 plant (other than crabgrass) and the NADP-ME version is the simplest. Also, pictures on Commons are not just for wikipedia articles. That is an EnFP criterion, not a Commons FP one.—Kelvinsong (talk) 17:48, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Do not get me wrong: I like your pictures, that is true. You have well proven your outstanding craftsmanship of difficult pictures. But this one goes a little bit too far in a certain way as mentioned, maybe even a little bit too simplified and hence misleading. --Yikrazuul (talk) 20:30, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Alright, do you want me to throw in all the other small details like the pyrophosphate, aspartate, etc? Maybe throw in the PEPCK and NADME mitochondrion in those variant pathways too? Because what happens when you do that is you start to get a lot of asterices and a lot of branching and sidenotes. Take a look at a standard picture of a plant or animal cell in a textbook. There is a lot of diversity in cell types, but you don't see acrosomes or T-tubules or statoliths in those pictures, because you illustrate the simplest version of a structure or pathway that exists.—Kelvinsong (talk) 14:17, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- I was just voting on the photo, if I have to consider about circumstances of photographers then I can't vote. I think... --Laitche (talk) 05:08, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm talking about the size of the photo, not the circumstances of the photographers. I'll explain. If I had taken this photo with a D800, it is likely that the size and has not been a problem, however, the value of a d800 is equivalent to the price of a big house in my country. Where I'm going with all this?, Attach too much importance to the size automatically kills any chance of a photograph of an underdeveloped country. Then, the number of people with FP becomes elite. In summary, the current requirements are sufficient, plus size probably go over there, but not yet. --The Photographer (talk) 12:21, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- What I'm saying is that about the size as this kind of pic not all pics and image size is not big point to oppose. I think they don't need D800's pixels (7,360 × 4,912). I would support when a photo is good if the size is small like this one ✿ --Laitche (talk) 13:49, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

- While I agree the detail on the gate isn't good enough for FP (compare File:Duomo Out S5.jpg), the perspective "distortion" can't be "corrected". The top of the gate is further away and features at the top are observed from below. No mathematical algorithm can change the viewpoint to half-way up the gate or further back. Such software fixes only really work with essentially flat subjects or where the degree of correction required is small. The solution is to take the photograph from futher back (and higher-up if possible), though that isn't easy with a popular tourist spot. And this gate is so detailed, that a stitched image would be beneficial. Colin (talk) 17:32, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose as above. A solution could be using a tilt/shift lens -- Arcalino (talk) 19:35, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- He he. Excuse me for labouring the point but no, that won't help either. Sure, the verticals with be straight and the focus would be sharp from top-to-bottom, but the viewpoint of features towards the top of the image will still be "from below" rather than "straight on". One could probably get away with this for the ironwork of the gate but not the 3D surround. Also, do you realise that your "solution" (T/S lens + full-frame camera) costs approximately 100x the equipment used here? :-) If one can't get further back to take the whole pic straight-on then other ideas are making the perspective a feature (shoot from real close up) to emphasise the height, or just focus on an interesting part of the gate. Colin (talk) 21:30, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- I completely agree with Colin: Artificially rectangulating (is that even a real word?) the gate would certainly do more harm than good. Apart from that, lack of sharpness etc. prevents me from dupporting → Oppose --El Grafo (talk) 11:10, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

- Comment based on a nature paper, created by the authors themselves → should be "wow" enough ;-) Why don't you go ahead and add a reference to that paper to the file description? Just one "problem": The source says only CC-BY-SA, so we would either need the GFDL to be removed from our file description page or a confirmation for that license from the authors (e.g. via Commons:OTRS). And maybe change the license to Creative Commons at Youtube. When that's resolved I'll be happy to support. --El Grafo (talk) 17:08, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Oppose for the moment:The current description, especially the license tag is not sufficient. It completely negelects the copyright status of the window itself. If the window was created before 1923, {{PD-old-auto-1923|1926}} might be the right choice for the window. Please add the year of creation to the description so we can figure out what template fits best here. If you wish to keep an additional CC-0 tag for your part of the work, that should be fine I guess. I have also added {{Creator:Louis Majorelle}} to the "author=" field (in addition to your name). BTW: All this basically applies to all the files in the category. Sorry for being such a pedant – I'll be happy to support as soon as that's resolved. --El Grafo (talk) 14:06, 7 June 2013 (UTC)- While I agree with you that it's not clearly described that the artwork is PD, I'm pretty sure it's simple to fix with {{Art photo}} and Commons:International copyright quick reference guide :-). PierreSelim (talk) 14:50, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- I have no doubt that this is fixable – would already have done that myself if the year of creation had been available. I wouldn't even insist on {{Art photo}} – looks like a real monster of a template ;-) --El Grafo (talk) 15:12, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for pointing this issue out. Actually, it is not {{PD-1923}}, since the stained glass were created in 1928 (and designed / conceived earlier). However, Majorelle, the copyright holder, died in 1926, so the artwork was in public domain in France in 1996 (as early as 1985 because at that time PD was 50 years postmortem). So PD-1996. - Oppose I do not really see what is featureable here - possibly due to missing background information. But from a photographic viewpoint this is "only" a good photograph of a lake with its bank - imho nothing special, same as this, this, this or this. I also do not see interesting light or a real eye-catcher. Nonetheless the post-processing (color, noise management on dark areas and sharpness) is quite good. --Tuxyso (talk) 12:22, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Normally I hate to comment FPC votes, but I must say it's a quite poor comparison. Here, we have some dramatic atmosphere due to rippled waters and heavy clouds. To me, the scenery looks like a painting. On Commons:Featured pictures/Places/Natural, one can see lots of much more "ordinary" shots. --A.Savin 19:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- I see your point, but the photo does not work this way for me. I do not see "heavy clouds", sorry. I made a circumstantial comment instead of writing only "no wow" to explain my problems with this nomination. On FPC there are often subjective impressions which make the difference because at least 90% of the FPCs are wihtout doubt technically very good (as the nomination here). Please regard my vote as it is - as very subjective assessment. --Tuxyso (talk) 19:58, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

- Support Better now. I was surprised at the effect -- there was a clear border to the purple in the lower left of the water. There's a still little bit at the top of the fall. Is that waterfall artificially lit with coloured light? Could that explain why some parts get coloured and some are clear, and why one might get a colour-shadow along the rock edge? - Oppose. Now enought "wow" effect, unnatural colours. — Stas1995 (talk) 18:26, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
- Question I´ve raised exposure and rarely contrast, dynamic and luminance of the braking lights. I haven´t changed coulours and my monitor has been calibrated last week, so there may be something wrong with my coulour rendition. May I have a hint, what coulours are unnatural? Thanks --Caecilius Mauß (talk) 20:21, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
- Comment As far as I'm concerned, it's not the tone of the colors or something like that, it's the lack of color. When I saw the thumbnail first, I thought it was black and white only. It looks a bit like absolutely everything in this scene was covered by a thick layer of soot. Whether one considers theat to be "artistic" or "unrealistic" is of course in the eye of the beholder. Apart from that, there is a significant amount of noise in large parts of the image – the most obvious areas are e.g. the spire in the background, the building on the left or those flag-like signs mounted to the poles along the road. --El Grafo (talk) 14:05, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- Info Done Forced Noise Reduction. @El Grafo - Thanks for reviewing. The black and white appearance is the "wow-factor" I hoped to express. I think you know the cologne lowland area with its damp climate and often hazy light conditions (e.g. File:Koeln-Bonner-bucht-panorama.jpg, File:Panorama Bonn.jpg). I took a back lighted shot to get a b/w or sepia appearance. If you look at the sky, you won´t find usual or "natural" colours, neither in mine than in the example files. This is what it often looks like in the evening in this area. (By the way, "Self-praise is no recommendation", so I pull back my own support. :) )--Caecilius Mauß (talk) 20:11, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks for the review. Question Do you mean distortions at the building or at the border of the photo at the leafs? Distortion at the borders are inevitable with wide-angle (10mm x 1.5) perspectives. But imho the leafs build a nice framing for the castle. Also note that the tower in the center is not vertically straight (see other photos in the category) --Tuxyso (talk) 10:57, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I've noticed the 10mm, so distortions are unavoidable, in the leaves for this picture. Maybe a little less vegetation (with 12mm or more) would have been enough to frame the castle but I don't know the place and it's pretty nice the way it is. --Selbymay (talk) 11:50, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. What do you (and the others) think about this alternative crop? I am not sure. Imho the nomination with the centered compositon is more dramatic. --Tuxyso (talk) 13:00, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

- Support Great composition which highlights the context of the subject. Foreground, middleground and background also well used. The trees contribute a nice framing element that make the subject appear behind a curtain of leaves. --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 13:46, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose Good quality but the composition is not at FP level, the white-black object in the background is quite disturbing Poco2 10:21, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- The chick is in a hatching factory I expect, there is equipment used there, like incubators and cages. The chick is standing in what looks a lot like a spoon, used to reach out to the bottom of the cage that the chick is in and pick it up. Without the handle, it would look strange to chicken wranglers. Penyulap ☏ 11:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, if I rotated the handle so it is hidden behind the chick, then it would look like a chick with a little black mohawk Penyulap ☏ 16:04, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

- detailed info
- This photo is one Korean friends' middle school years.
- (back row) The rightest is Yun Dong-ju. He was talented for literature and has been highly acclaimed at home. In university, he was arrested by Japanese Empire for writing poems of resistance. And was dead by medical experiment on a living body. It was 1945, only 6 months earlier than Empire's fall.
- (back low) The leftest is Chang Chun-ha. He was drafted by Japanese Imperial Army but ran away to became Korean segregationist soldier. After Korean independence, he became a journalist. His periodical Sa-sang-ge("The System of Idea") triggered April revolution(1960). In 1975, while he planning unidentified conspiracy against dictator, was assassinated by unkown someone.
- (back row) The center is Moon Ik-hwan. He became Presbyterian minister and took part in retranslation of Korean Bible in 1970s. After Chang(the leftest)'s dead, He devoted himself to movement for democracy. He died of a heart failure on January 18, 1994.
- (front row) He is Chung Il-kwon. In 1940s, he joined the Manchu State(which was a puppet state of Japanese Empire) army and became military police captain. After Empire's fall, he transfered to Korean Nation's Army and distareged as full general. He cooperated President Park Jeong-hee, who was militant dictator. So he became the prime minister and the chairman of the national assembly. He died on Jenuary 17, 1994, almost same day of Moon(the center of back low).
- This photo is more than only middle schooler friends' photo. This is an irony itself of modern Korean history.

- Comment There is a little CA, see image note for an example. Not a huuuuge problem, but if it is fixable? Also the projection really gets stretched at the etches, at the limit of what is reasonable for this projection, probably because the field-of-view is large. Nice colors and light. --Slaunger (talk) 21:18, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose The sky looks much oversaturated, has some noise (probably from sharpening the clouds) and shows a strange brightness distribution: The center of the sky is less bright than the borders (polarizer + wide angle lens?). The sharpness at the left side of the fassade is at the low end. Nonetheless a good composition but in the current version no FP for me. --Tuxyso (talk) 21:48, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

- Info Since the cathedral has several nearby buildings, it is challenging to capture it illuminated without distracting shadows. However, in June the sun is sufficiently high in the evenings to just allow for a uniform soft evening light on the granite surface of the Western wall - when sunny. Furthermore, you have to get quite close in order to get an unobstructed view of this facade, and you get a quite wide field of view. I have done my best to find a reasonable compromise between geometric distortions and this wide field of view. The off-centered view was chosen as I could use the stairs of a building at that position to get some more elevation and look over the parked cars. --Slaunger (talk) 20:43, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

- Comments: Although this is indeed an amazing species, it is fairly common in collections, and this is not really a very good shell as they go: it has a pretty bad scar on the shell from what was probably a predation attempt (or maybe from falling out of its tree), and the surface of the interior of the shell is a little damaged, probably from the soft parts rotting out. So it's not an ideal shell, but still its a useful image of course. Invertzoo (talk) 12:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC), from WikiProject Gastropods.

- Support Nice portrait. Prefer your softer version. I'm not sure of the merit of converting an AdobeRGB JPG to sRGB because JPGs have so few bits that this is lossy (though hopefully Lightroom/Photoshop are less simple-minded than browsers when converting colour spaces). I know the sRGB is more likely to display correctly on displays, but the damage once done when the AdobeRGB JPG was created. Colin (talk) 20:04, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Colin. I have the .psd file in AdobeRGB, I can upload that over this file and either revert back to sRGB for web viewing or leave the AdobeRGB file as the most recent upload. What do you think? – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 20:22, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- As I said, I'm not sure. I think Lightroom/Photoshop dither when converting colourspaces (rather than the simple nearest-colour algorithm that browsers use that causes posterisation). So any fears I have over lossy conversion might not in practice be visible. And the advantage that the sRGB will show properly for more people is a definite gain, rather than my theoretical loss. Have you considered contacting the original photographer: perhaps they an regenerate an sRGB one for the web, and fix any processing issues people see. Colin (talk) 08:19, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose-- Unfortunate post-processing problems: ugly posterization of the right background; pink "ghosts" between the left-side hairs; the post-processing messed the left of the chin and the top-center of the hairs, leaving these parts confused while the whole picture is sharp. Please re-process. Sting (talk) 22:58, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- None of that is my doing, that's in the original photo. I could try and go in and attempt to correct the pink ghosts. The 'posterization' looked more like texture to me. I did an on-purpose extreme curves tweak just to see what was going on back there and it doesn't look like posterization to me (I could very well be wrong). As for the chin, I'm not sure I follow you. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 01:51, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, at first I thought the background was posterised but now I think it is just that the photographer's textured sky background is in focus rather than blurred. Colin (talk) 08:19, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- That's not a printed background pattern but definitely an over-processing problem and it's even more obvious where the background interacts with the hairs. Sting (talk) 14:08, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

- Support this very nice folio with maps, high size and resolution, with a lot of details. Left above, the city of La Rochelle during the "Great Siege" (1627-1628). Left below, a map of the Province of Aunis in 1773. Right, a map of the city in 1773, when design and engraving where made, and below, some miniatures of fortifications of other cities in Aunis. I did not find any mistake, and it has a very high artistic and EV IMO. Very carefully restored by me. - The original was pretty over-exposed strong flash, though not clipped so you managed to rescue the JPG somewhat. But there's just no texture or hair detail at all. She's pretty so that helps; I think most of us would look awful shot like that. Colin (talk) 20:27, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

- Info I see no problem that the other photo is already featured, it shows Moyland castle fromt a very different perspective. For an appropriate photographic representation of the castle the photographer faces the problem that the nomination here shows the very characteristic front of the moated castle without the surronding water but with some element of the landscape architecture of the yard. The other photo which is already featured shows the surronding water but not the characteristic front of the building. Why not nominate both photos? - Oppose The two pictures are useful but this one has a severe issue : the distorsion of the towers. The correction would have been less visible from a little more distant point of view. --Selbymay (talk) 17:08, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hehe, I've waited for this comment :) The towers are not distorted, it is a special characteristic of the architecture. Look at GMaps: [5] or take a look at the official website. The towers are not rounded but have and elliptic form. From my standpoint there is no possibility to go back further. The towers look that way in real. --Tuxyso (talk) 19:15, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I've checked the other pictures (a lot are similar in the category) and it's the only one showing the elliptic form so obviously. Either real or not, I still prefer the other one. --Selbymay (talk) 21:02, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose The second one (already FP) is lovely and I missed supporting it when it got nominated. The first not special enough imo and File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 1.jpg has nicer composition with the two benches and willow tree. BTW: I think there's a risk that "support" votes might be cast for the second image - it isn't an alt nomination. -- Colin (talk) 20:51, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose Definitely not the best in scope, I also prefer File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 1.jpg. Just a quality image, no FP. Sorry. Trace (talk) 20:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, I disagree. Please look thoroughly: The photo File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 1.jpg has several quality issues. If you understand German take a look on this German FPC archive. In short: There are problems with the colors, sky, stitching and with inhomogeneous sharpness distribution. --Tuxyso (talk) 21:13, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I don't dispute that the other image has some quality issues (though it is pretty good for a compact camera), but its composition is superior and the composition here is not wow enough imo. Colin (talk) 21:40, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Same as Colin : superior composition of File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 1.jpg. And the german discussion you mention is about File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 2.jpg, which is not the same picture… and therefore has not the same composition !-- Trace (talk) 15:16, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- I am with you that File:Schloss Moyland Panorama, 1.jpg is also quite good. But currently there is not yet a white bench :) My photo shows a tigther crop with less surrondings - it's a matter of taste. What about an alternative nomination? I have two running ones and cannot nominate it. --Tuxyso (talk) 11:33, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

There's an awful lot of colour moire on the buildings. Have you tried fixing it with Lightroom/Photoshop? It isn't easy for such a large amount. I'm intrigued about the building on the left. Have you perspective-corrected this image? I think there's some vertical stretching as a result (the top floors are taller than the bottom ones) but the building really does have bigger windows towards the top than the bottom (horizontally at least). So it is hard to be sure.Colin (talk) 21:37, 19 June 2013 (UTC)- Comment Thanks for your comment, I'll see what I can do about the moire tonight. Yes, the picture is perspective corrected (wide-angle shot, there's no room to do it differently), but the windows of the topmost floor are actually higher than those of the floors below (I passed by that building this morning and checked). --Kabelleger (talk) 08:52, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Comment I have fixed the moire as good as I could, unfortunately it's still not 100% optimal everywhere :( --Kabelleger (talk) 20:58, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Good job !. Maybe you better check the low pass filter of your camera cause I think it's too much moire and false color for a photo taken in 5D Mark III :) --Laitche (talk) 03:11, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I'm not saying there aren't 'processing problems', it's just that I just can't see them. Looks like the mountain the Karate Kid climbs to plant the Bonsai tree. The interesting nature of the image is quite enough to make it a winner, possibly if the photographer wants to be out of our league, they can read about focus stacking and then upload the component images to the Commons:Graphics lab and we can assemble them for you. The two compositional elements in the midground (village) and background (mountain) are too small to really open a relation to the stone. The different ascending and declining lines are too flat to be dramatic enough. Nonetheless a nice shot. --Tuxyso (talk) 21:08, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Remember that this gate is one of the most visited sights in Germany. The light in the early morning is ideal, because the rising sun illuminates the characteristic front of the gate perfectly and only at this day time.
